That dude literally solved all of this case so quickly. Who would ever think to look for a small gunshot in the wall? Also, what kind of coroner thinks a hole in the heart isn't weird?! The hell.
My daughter was born with a hole in her heart. Ok, it closed by itself by the time she was 4, but maybe there are conditions where that doesn't happen. So if the hole was small enough to not be debilitating in life, maybe he thought that that's just what was going on there: a condition he was born with. Then again, the shredded internals should really have risen a concern.
@@thenutstealer I was telling her story because of the question of this thread's OP, about why anyone would look into a small hole in someone heart's wall. So that's why: Because it might be a condition that the person was born with.
@@RevCode there is a difference between a small hole in the septum, usually a remnant of foramen ovale in the atrial septum, and a hole that ia going through the outer heart wall. The first one allows the blood to mix inbetween the hearts sides, which isn't exactly good per se, but isn't deadly, whereas a hole in the external wall is a sure way to die without immediate surgery. The medical examiner wouldn't have called the prior a hole, that would have been noted as an anatomical anomaly

Tommy Brown did my father's autopsy in 1991. Fast forward to 2001ish...I was doing some investigating regarding my father's death and had a bunch of questions, so I called the local coroner where I was living at the time (happened to be in Guam) The coroner asked if I would come in and bring my paperwork and he would be happy to answer any questions I had. I went immediately and the first thing he said when he saw the name (Tommy Brown) was that he had actually trained Tommy Brown years and years prior...what a coincidence! And then as I was asking questions about things (specifically clouded cornea and blanched lividity) and told him I thought the death time frame was wrong- he came to the same conclusion, and said he didn't know how Tommy could have missed that. So it sounds to me like there are a few things that Tommy Brown could brush up on...because thoroughness is essential in that business when aiding in any kind of a death investigation. It's been so long now that others, in my dad's case, have died and taken secrets to their grave. We will never know what really happened with my dad...lots to do with pre-conceived suggested ideas before the actual investigation. Sad how that happens..but I'm glad the wife in this case did not give up and was able to get answers.
Some people have a gift for attention to detail and pattern recognition. I seem to have this gift, but I can only really use it if I'm genuinely interested in what I'm looking into. I can totally understand how he could put two and two together and think of scenarios that others missed. What probably got his eye is the crotch wound mixed with essentially the internals being badly damaged but not the externals. That sounds like a possible bullet wound with no exit. Then you would follow that lead to see if it leads anywhere.
I get all that and if im interested in something enough im like a blood hound. You have to realize what this guy had to work with though. Its an amazing thing that he could even start to piece it together let alone solve it. May sound easy but trust me this guy pulled off a miracle pretty much.
The whole in his heart and the small injury on his groin. I can see why they would think bullet but to know what room it came from and exactly where on the wall the hole would be is insane to me

Id love to see Kens process of thought when figuring cases out. Most people wouldnt know where to start but this guy obviously has a gift for reasoning these things out.
Perhaps he had a better look at the laceration, knowing it was a gunshot wound. Ken has probably seen a fair number of gunshot wounds over the course of his career.
A bullet entry wound is usually the size of the bullet. The exit wounds are big holes cuz of the change in energy of the projectile when it exits. If a bullet doesn't exit the body and blows out your heart instantly then the only wounds the size of the bullet and no blood cuz the heart instantly stopped pumping
I have seen Ken Brennan interviewed and summaries of cases he has worked on- you know how some people are just born gifted; a gymnast; a pianist; an artist or whatever, some people appear to be born with a gift. I learned how to dismantle and put my gun back together, how to clean it and fire it ect. It was when we came to the safety part that I started to feel ambivalent, once I heard all the stories and found out all the things no one tells you about owning a gun that I realized I was very uncomfortable with that much responsibility and would sell it back. I’m not against others owning guns as long as they are doing so safely, this story illustrated what an irresponsible gun owner looks like and haunts all my future hotel stays.

So when I went to get my EMT certification in Texas a paramedic that was teaching 90% of the class was from Louisiana. He told us about a case that he got called out on out in the country where two vehicles were in opposite sides of the road in the ditch. One was facing one way the other one was facing the other way and their cars were literally within a hundred feet of each other, so it looked like they just were driving along and one went off in the ditch one way and the other one at the same time went off just on the other side, but, they were both dead and their whole face and skull was just smashed like somebody took a huge hammer and just hit them as hard as they could on the face and the whole face was just smashed in. They didn't have a clue what had happened. So they cleared the scene and he went back to the station and it was very confusing to everybody. There were no storms but they started looking at the humidity in that area and they went back out and found neighbors that lived in that area and come to find out that early morning it was extremely foggy and at that time both drivers had their head out the window looking ,trying to see the road and when they went by each other they were so close their faces and heads collided with each other killing them instantly. This is my guess SO FAR, but I'm only at 11:59 in the video. My guess, the poor victim was enjoying his night and watching the movie. While eating his popcorn or his candy bar (or both), and smoking, he coughed and accidentally inhaled some of his popcorn or candy bar and began choking. He leapt to his feet at the end of the bed and began holding his throat or whatever while he was choking, but he accidentally careened into the television. The TV fell onto him while he was still choking, and this is where his crushing injuries came from. He was still panicking while partially choking, maybe he was no longer choking, and he managed to push the TV up off of himself. And, then, he succumbed to his crushing injuries/maybe still choking right there. I know I'm barely over halfway through the video, but so far that's the only thing I can guess at, and maybe everyone pointing back to the fact that the room was hot instead of cold is just a red herring in the story...? I guess I'll find out! But that's my guess. I'll edit this comment after I finish watching and absorbing and I'll laugh at myself, I'm sure, at how wrong I was. EDIT after finishing the video: I was really far off and didn't suspect a bullet or the neighboring electricians or drunk fuckerey or anything like that at ALL. And the bullet entering, shattering, and spraying all around inside of him makes perfect sense now, that could easily have blasted all of his guts around inside of him. That's freakin crazy.
The actual ending to this one seemed unbelievable compared to your theory. Your theory does make sense about the crush injury, especially if the TV was at a lower level, and the way the victim was decribed as rough and tough... yes he would have been able to push it off himself. The reason i feel the actual story seems a bit off is the lack of bleeding from gunshot wound. If it had the velocity to male its way fron the groin to the heart, then multiple vessels would have been damaged. In short why wasnt there any bleeding? (You would make a great novelist)
I thought it was some kind of gas leak caused by the outage , some kinda gas that could have ruptured his internal organs in high enough dose especially given the skin color and apparent sudden death. But it seems maybe the bullet entered his body and bounced around his insides..... Either way the medical examiner is dumb as shit, the fuck do you miss a BULLET HOLE? seems suspicious if you ask me.

Ken Brennan is a badass -- there's another case which involved a woman being stuffed in a suitcase to be removed from a hotel room that he solved. It was featured on of those network crime shows (Dateline or 48 Hours I believe) as was this one.
I saw that episode. Brennan solved it by watching security footage of the perp carrying a rolling suitcase into and out of an elevator. The evidence was less than 5 seconds long.
If someone gets shot laying down in the crotch you can have some seriously weird shit happen. IE there are loads of large blood vessels with areas with almost none between them. Then there are all the muscles/tendons etc. There are enough of those to stop any blood getting out) it only takes about 6PSI to stop bleeding) and they will effectively close up the wound. So it would look like a minor laceration with all the bleeding happening internally.
Had the pleasure of knowing Ken for a while. Dude is such a badass lol. Everything you've heard about the guy is probably true. Guy was nice enough to help me train my dog!

I am from Lafayette,Louisiana and this case wasn't as cut and dried as it seems. Unfortunately when the investigation was going on the police received his phone records and according to the records the police said he had frequented prostitutes. Anyone and everyone knew that he and his wife were totally devoted to one another. His family knew that wasn't how he was and were tired of being told these things and started to look for a private investigator. It was eventually found that the records weren't actually his and when they finally looked at his records he was in fact the devoted husband that everyone said he was. It's really sad that he died so senselessly.
To be honest, I’d be kinda embarrassed if I was the coroner on that case. You find a hole in someone heart and you really can’t deduce what could cause that?
@@anthonybernard92 - It's because it went through his body vertically from the crotch, which he probably never saw before. No obvious entry or exit wound, and a vertical trajectory from the bottom up. Yeah, I doubt he ever saw that before.

It's chilling to know that the electricians hearing Greg coughing after the electricians had visited the bar for probably a couple of hours, indicates that Greg was alive, probably aware of being in the process of dying, for at least that many hours. It sounds like, had he gotten medical intervention immediately, the hole to his heart could've been repaired and he'd've survived. So sad.
Not sure we need to believe believe the coughing thing "heard" by the drunk electricians, the guilty party. Here is why a) Greg was found with a ciggy still in hand. He had a ciggy between his fingers for a couple of hours after being shot and still there when he died? b) Experts believe Greg was dead in a minute or less, he bled out internally, hole in heart. He just had time to jump off the bed, stumble to the door, collapsed and died. He died so quickly he had no time get help himself. @@thenutstealer I was telling her story because of the question of this thread's OP, about why anyone would look into a small hole in someone heart's wall. So that's why: Because it might be a condition that the person was born with.
My uncle had a hole in his heart. He waited on a transplant his entire life but he never got one and he died.. so yeah its possible but it's not good
@@RevCode there is a difference between a small hole in the septum, usually a remnant of foramen ovale in the atrial septum, and a hole that ia going through the outer heart wall.

One of the most horrifying is a doctor that missed a gunshot wound. "I wonder why his heart had a hole in it." Lord.

@@nikoletamarlais exactly he said he had a bruise or marks on groin as well as his head...surely they would see a bullet entry hole lol

I remember hearing about this case in a gun safety class I took after purchasing a gun for personal safety. The class was 10 hours, 2 hours a day for 5 days and taught by a police officer.

Hello i am L
They just kind of slowed down and went off in the ditch at the same time.
That's insane.

@@gavinelesban Good point on the bleeding, one would think there'd be some.

And i’m like dude got shot and there was no blood at all where he laid and died? I never heard anyone say there was any blood.

His family knew that wasn't how he was and were tired of being told these things and started to look for a private investigator. It was eventually found that the records weren't actually his and when they finally looked at his records he was in fact the devoted husband that everyone said he was. It's really sad that he died so senselessly.

That's some seriously impressive detective work. Like, wow. "Wait! There's more!" linking all the pieces together.
Who else doesn't even look for the'thing' hidden in these vids?
Im not good at finding those things xD
Guess its just six of us
Not me. I'm too interested in the story
I can’t multi task.
Idc about those things, i'm Here for the creepy story.
Ken and Apple. Brilliant name for a detective series.
So captivating and vivid, I'm totally tuned in, and yes smitten too, at 3:00 am IST 😊
Honestly that's the best detective work I've seen in a story like this
Greg was my cousin - from a branch of the family I am no longer in touch with. It was beyond weird to first read this story many years ago in Vanity Fair, and realize about half way through that I knew this man. He was remarkably similar to my father - wiry build, meticulous and ordered, polite, and liked by all. His picture made me feel I was seeing Dad all over again. Now, a newly established Mr Ballen addict, I discover Greg’s story being retold in Mr B’s inimitable style. Dear Greg, I am so sorry your life ended so precipitously and sadly, but very glad those responsible have been brought to justice. And as to me, I truly believe life is full of the most extraordinary circumstances. And weirdness!
so sorry for your loss
*God bless Greg, he was minding his business!*
Michael Browne • Greg is not your cousin... Your looking for attention and for people to say, "Oh wow" or "really" or "I'm so sorry"... Just keep it real, life's to short to fake the funk !! Smh .....

The moment he said "far away dock", I had immediate anxiety.
underrated comment
I'll NEVER swim to a far away dock again, thanks to Mr Ballen!
whats "far way dock"
@@_shawn_2435 it’s a reference to a previous video he posted. The far away dock had a sinnister story
I just saw that video yesterday and today I'm just haha I got that reference. Poor like button.
The story is really taking a turn….love your videos! Been binge watching them. Please do more of the 3 places you can’t go and missing 411, can’t get enough!
Mr ballens videos are always so interesting. He’s such a good story teller.
The medical examiner who did the autopsy screwed up badly! He should’ve recognized the bullet pathway and hydra shock to internal organs almost immediately!
He should go to jail for this expertise.
wonder how many murder vics 'died of natural causes' according to that med examiner?
Love your storytelling style......I have binged on every episode and look forward to the new ones.....cant get enough
“His cigarette was burned down to the wick”
Was he smoking candles?
@TheDoge 777 lol
🤣
Lol
We all knew he meant down to the butt..
😁😁😁👍
Greg: sleeps in really cold temperatures
Me: My guy!
I cant even get sleep without the room being cold
Same!
Yes lol! window cracked with the fan on in winter time guy right here
I'm the exact opposite, I need to be on fire or I can't sleep. I live in a very hot part of Australia. I sleep with an electric blanket and the heater on and sleep with so many blankets, I can't even turn over with the weight. I am certifiably insane. Everyone here thinks so 😂

You have a real passion on telling stories, you make them spooky but not to chilling, so people who struggle to watch horror movies can still watch these spooky stories :)
I can't stop watching on my days off from work. Thank you John Ballen for your storytime.❤❤❤❤
He would have bled out in less than 30 seconds - quotation from Vanity Fair article, "The Body in Room 348"
@@louiseb6111 Yes, but that is what bullets can do.
@@louiseb6111 Yes, he died real quick
There was abolutely no way he was surviving after taking bullet shrapnel to the heart.

That P.I. earned his fame
How is it there was no blood, then? I wish that he didn't realize that the corner was incompetent? And why does everyone think that Amelia Earhart disappeared when we've known that her bones were found on an island shortly after the plane went down?
@@rufust.firefly2474 22lr caliber is small and its gunshot wounds may not bleed, and bullet going through wall and most of intestines probably lost even more in size stopped IN the heart, leaving only really small entering hole, which confused the coroner.
@@gilrouvan-kanok5969 thank you for verifying that. I didn't want to assume that it would be true
He solved another crime that had to do with luggage. He saw something that no ones did and went with his gut.

This guy needs to get on Spotify I'd listen to his stories everyday
YES!!!!!!!!!!!👌
That’s the worst case of bad luck I’ve ever heard.
Same.
There happened a hunting accident on a road near a city i live close to. The hunter shot at a hog and hit it, the bullet penetrated the hog and travelled on to the street where a car happened to pass by. The guy on the front right seat (not the driver) had his arm out the window and the bullet hit him in the ellbow and travelled through his right upper arm into his heart where it stopped. The driver said that his friend was dead instantly and he didnt hear a thing. At first he didn't even see any blood and they were mid conversation before he died. You can look it up, the city is called Nittenau and it's located in Germany. You'll find articles if you google something like "Querschlaeger B16 Nittenau" or "Jagdunfall Nittenau", I don't know if there are any articles in English tho. That's the worst bad luck story I have heard so far.
Edit: English article if you google: Car passenger killed by stray bullet from hunting accident

Getting shot in the meat and/or two veg is not a way you want to go. The pain must have been horrible.
I've already seen this on forensic files and yes the ending is crazy as heck. It's something that is incredibly hard to even believe much less solve. And the poor man was minding his own business watching a movie and what happened , happened. It's crazy
I still don’t know how this man doesn’t have millions of views he has the best story channel 😔
He just started on TH-cam he has grown 800600 in 8 months thts really fast. He has a huge fan base. he has 8 million on TikTok
Been here since he was at 800 subs
Tbh, when I first saw his videos pop up on my recommended feed, I was like, why is this dude rehashing the same content all these other top five youtubers have already borrowed from reddit.
But then one of his videos came up on autoplay, and I was instantly sold. I didn't realize just how much of a phenomenal storyteller he is lmao. Now I watch every video, even if it's on a case or story I've heard multiple times in the past.
He has over a million subscribers
@@Superficial-Intellectual this comment was made before he had 1m subs
Even though i only heard this story a couple of days ago and knew the ending, the way it is told by Mr Ballen in so much detail made it worth listening to all over again.
Same. No one can tell a story like John!!!
I actually studied this case while in school and recognized it right way but the way he tells a story literally sucks you in. Amazing talent!

YES! He dose he is so awesome
@Imperial fist Librarian yes 30 million is reasonable for the first year. Happy werewolf.

Yes one mil
Well he reached it
I can’t believe how addicted I’ve become, but I’m not ashamed. 😂
The detective who solved this must be a descendant of king Solomon or something. My goodness. I havent heard of a deductive prowess like that since watching detective L from deathnote.
Right! Some sherlock holmes shit right there
He should join that crime solving club
Hahahaha I love it
Its the goddamn batman
is he? or were the other detectives and coroner inept? how do you miss a gunshot wound that tears completely thru someones body? also idk how these electricians could have fixed the drywall in the neighboring room. and idk how a hole by the doorknob could line up with the bed in the next room. well it could line up. but what was that guy doing messing with his gun in tbe entryway by the door and not in the room?
Hey I just wanna say that your channel is really entertaining and I can watch for hours and never get bored because you really engage me in the stories because there is no music to distract me and you use real photos instead of edited fake images so I really do hope you continue to grow and keep telling stories
My favourite part of watching these videos, is reading everyone's comments after. Makes me laugh everytime. And im glad to know im not the only one in love with these vids.
Extremely detailed story telling! I'm an avid Coffeehouse Crime watcher and this looks like my next obsession channel. I love the mystery.
Well the cop found nothing, the coroner found nothing, good thing the wife called a private investigator!!
sad story that the poilice is all like "been there, done that" and you need to pay for a private investigator to solve such a case... :(
The coroner has a lot to answer for. Why did he mistake a gunshot wound as a blemish ? I think he needs retraining.
That's how it works in that area.
There’s no need in need in playing around with a gun. Especially children or dunk people.
I’m so confused how a coroner could miss a freakin bullet hole in a body.. also was there no blood? Even a small caliber would cause at least some bleeding right?
