If yr innocent, you know it and talk to the police they can twist it! If you are innocent, takes everyones advice and lawyer up your guilty, it really is scary, look at the recent case man got convicted, on death row, yet he had atleast 15 alibi' s proving he was in another state, one being a close friend who was a cop, the cop first child had been born that day, he was with the supposed killer that afternoon! Now that scares me!
It freaked me out when all that guy could come up with for an alibi was that he was at his appt alone cause that would probably be my alibi in a situation like this
You're so right, seems like the cops get tunnel vision and if you are in their scope, party is over , and getting out is a 20 year process if it happens then, no I'm sorry , no accountability, just lost 20 years of your life over ignorance
That is honestly pretty badass that there’s just this group of geniuses that all get together to brainstorm and try to figure out unsolved crimes like it’s a casual game of Clue.

Yeah, that's really backwards. If he didn't care about her safety at all that night, she would have lived. If the first security guard didn't radio the disgruntled security guard, she would have lived. If the disgruntled security guard hadn't radioed the third security guard, she would have lived. If she had worn any other pair of shoes that day, she would've lived. This story is so messed up and backwards to everything right. :(
@@bentonrp Exactly right.. Could have happened to any of us. We assume these security personnel are trustworthy and that the universities are safe for young girls to roam around by themselves..
What I want to know is why the level of education isn't higher for police officers. Seems they routinely mess up investigations over there unless it's an open and shut case. Surprising they wouldnt have interviewed the gf of the security guard originally about the call length or even check the call time as being only 3 minutes long. Very basic stuff
Have they thought about not hurting women and not being abusive and learning correction in their thinking to help themselves and not in the genital sense? Hmm I wonder...
No, he did it to reduce his sentence. Which also means he may have made the entire thing up. A lot of false convictions are due to cellmates lying to try to get reduced sentences.
That would be a good way to start a book/movie, "my cell mate confessed to me".. and they start the story. The other guy never figured his cell mate would tell the guards.
I chuckled soon as I heard it! He said it so matter-of-factly! 🤣🤣🤣 Like, "You already know he sang like a Canary soon as he had the chance! What else do you expect from a jailbird?!" 🤷🏽♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣
The scariest part of this video was that Ashland dude. Almost every single thing pointed the finger at him, (outside of physical evidence), including the failed polygraph test. Just goes to show that coincidence and unlucky circumstances can make an innocent person look totally guilty.
My sister and my husband had me thrown in jail for something that same sister did. They gave me a new type of polygraph test that didn't have anything to do with your pulse. He said people who lie always has a certain pause or something in their voice, and that's what it would check for. He said it's so small most people doesn't hear it. I failed it twice somehow even though I was in bed sleep when the thing happened. So, no I never believe those tests.
Man the irony in this the boyfriend telling the security guard she was alone ended up being why she was chosen as an easy target. Man how sad it was to keep her safe but told the killer she was alone and probably no one was gonna be able to see 😞
Right? And super sad that she'd already had a violent encounter with her stalker the day before. And in the office just above the computer lab, there was a man who liked to assault and threaten secretaries. 😢
That stuff happens all the time though. People are always bragging to their cellmates about stuff; and for some reason, they always think that they won't be reported. "I'll tell my secrets to someone who has the ability to trade favors for information. What could possibly go wrong?"
@@DogFlamingoXIII you really believe that? More like the da offered his roommate something to testify and lie that he was bragging. Now that is what happens all the time.

I really feel bad for Debbie’s boyfriend, man. He thought he was doing the right thing by alerting the security guards to her presence. Honestly, I might’ve done the same thing. I wouldn’t have expected a security guard to be a killer, especially if it’s a security guard I saw around campus all the time. But hindsight is 20/20, so of course I find it strange now.
Were I live they hired a professional security guard company. One of them followed a woman in her building and raped her. Sorry to say you really can't trust anyone.
Actually it happens alot because almost anyone can become security guards and offenders purposely seek these jobs to perpetrate their crimes as in many security guard crimes
Unfortunately that’s actually a very common job for a serial killer. As well as truckers. They purposefully choose a job that puts them in a better position to find victims.
@@alyciamarie4163 not true. Of serial killers, they can get themselves jobs to allow them to do that but to say it's common along serial killers isnt right
My grandpa was murdered, the cops spent the entire time trying to pin it on my grandmother who was tied up by the murderer. She was cleared of it, but it was really disturbing how much the cops focused on her. The murder was never solved, but there are theories on who did it and why. One thing is known though, that it was done by a professional.
That's sad. But cops don't care enough to put forth the effort, unless it affects one of theirs. Then you're getting buried. Otherwise, you likely don't get caught. Only 10% get caught. 10%.
Police: "You wanted to date her, and when she kept refusing you, you got angry. You killed her, didn't you, you nerd!" "No, no! I was alone in my apartment that night...!" Police: "...Yeah, we believe you on that, actually."

There were investors that raised concerns about Bernie Madoff because they couldn't figure out how he made his gains, and the SEC did nothing. It was only when his kids turned him in that they did something. There were at least a couple of people who did school shootings that posted about their intentions on social media before hand. People reported the messages to the police or FBI and they didn't take it seriously. It's better to deal with a problem while it is small before it turns into a big problem.

I had a weird experience. My friend and I went shopping one afternoon, I wore a knee length dress and grey high heeled booties and she wore shorts and sandals. As we approached the parking garage I felt someone gaining on us, I looked behind me and saw a man with a camera strapped around his neck walking very fast and looking down at the ground. He seemed in a hurry but we didn’t feel threatened. But when we got near our car he came up behind us and blocked us in between cars and the wall so we couldn’t go anywhere, and he started rapidly taking pictures my ankles and feet zooming in and getting closer and closer until he was a couple feet away then moved on to her feet and did the same. I shouted at him to stop and leave us alone and tried to find my phone in my purse but he ran off before I could could see what direction he went. It all happened so fast. It’s creepy he had pictures of our heels and feet somewhere in his possession.

@@raudy7856 it says in the video that he told his cell mate that he wanted to have his way with her feet, he did more than just kill her and steal her shoes from the sounds of it.
When you mentioned he walked by at 2:15 am, immediate flags were raised in my mind. Typically, you don't print while working on a project until it's finished but you said she was mid sentence on her project at 1:38 am. That signaled to me either someone else had to be in there at that time OR he was lying.
Yeah that was what bothered me too, i watched the first 15 minutes twice and the 2 main things that bothered me were the printer and the shoes. The backpack was found but the shoes werent? That in my mind meant that the killer moved the shoes far away but left the backpack?? Also what are the odds she lost both shoes AND socks during the struggle without the killer purposely removing them and as pointed above, moving them speficially. Also the security guards were the ones to know what the other was doing at any time and knew the area so i figured it was the security guard who had history and that the blood was from the janitor (nosebleed/cut?) which caused a mixup. Either way i was wrong but it was fun!
For me, the missing shoes did raise suspicion, I mean, _where were they ?!_ But more than that, I couldn't get over the missing socks! Like, what ? where ? how ? why ?!! The printer did not raise suspicion because back in my Univ days, I was overly cautious about my projects and, so as not to lose any material just in case I forgot to hit the "save" button, I would print every two pages of completed work.

Might have been no problem had he NOT told the security guard she was alone. How's that for the brain, the worst of things can come from the best of intentions!
And this is why in America we like to carry guns or tasers or pepper spray or whatever on us 24/7 'What are you so scared of all of the time?' You're never actually safe in any society if you don't take the proper measures to make sure you can protect yourself, it's the only person you can rely on.
There's no probably about it. He is. I'd go off the rails if I had been him. Probably would have tried to commit a crime that would land me in the same prison as the killer so that I could exact revenge. But that's just me. I doubt anyone would consider it honourable.
I find it a bit weird how he doesn't say jack about his involvement in the crime for years, even to the police and then blabs all of a sudden to some random cell mate? Unless he knew the game was up? it seems odd.
Some guys wanna seem tough the moment they get in because they don't want to be viewed as easy prey themselves. Maybe he figured that a fellow prisoner would "have" to be a kindred spirit?

Initially watching this reminded me of my days in grad school being alone in the college building late night on the weekends trying to finish video editing projects. The software is expensive. So I had to use the university computers. We didn't have guards. We would just get to the building during the late afternoon when it was open, sign in, and then stay for hours doing work while the building would get locked from the outside at night. Sometimes I'd finish really late and just walk back to my apartment at 3 a.m., not thinking much of it. I was about to say it would've been nice to have guards in our buildings, until I saw the ending. Such a heartbreaking story.

Indeed, however it is so easy to do that in an investigation, you have to work your way through the case and at one time or another there are different suspects who end up having nothing to do with the incident. That is just life, one person the one who was injured or killed may have contact with dozens of people over a day, especially in a large campus area, and suspicion follows the clues as they become known. That's just the way it has to be done. It would be great if every criminal would leave their student ID on the body but that doesn't happen all that often.
@@brianking9424 and start a story like this ... "it was a dark and stormy night, and debbie was working late" blah blah blah " and it was all just a dream" lol
It only sounds overwritten because your only perception of what a murder looks like are the fictional books you read. In real life situations, they can be simple or highly complicated. There is no definition of what a murder truly looks like.
The initial lineup of suspects feels straight out of a movie or television show with its variety of stereotypes: You have the distraught boyfriend, the uncooperative security guard, the disliked PhD student, and the former-friend-turned-stalker. And of course it ends up being the squeaky-clean foot-fetishist. Classic.
They are stereotypes because they *are* so common. Husband/boyfriend/jilted boyfriend first. That's the vast majority of them. Then casual acquaintances. then those with an opportunity. Stranger murder, especially when it's up close and personal like strangulation, is very rare.
This actually was used in a movie called Urban Legend. It’s a decent slasher movie from the late 90’s and features this entire storyline as one of the main plot threads.
Urban legend if I recall was a little different. The killer turned out to be the lover of a man the girl accidentally killed during a prank and the security guard was never a suspect but I see what you mean still kind of similar
And why would he even say that, everyone knows when telling a good lie you give as much truth as possible so the lie is as small and believable as possible!!
Just think! She would still be alive if the concerned boyfriend hadn’t hadn’t asked a murderous security guard to check on her. Technically Kurt got her killed.
I KNEW IT! I used to study in my campus's basement computer labs all the time and they are EERILY quiet after about 10 pm. The lights are dim and the sound it muffled by the thick, reinforced concrete walls. There is no way Dixon could have seen & heard what he said; it had to be him. As soon as he said the other guard hadn't contacted him, my suspicion locked in. His alibi seemed way too neat. Maybe it was all my years evading creeps at night on campus, but this one felt obvious to me.
Throughout the story every guess I made I ended up retracting because the next suspect fit the story better. I have never been more frustrated. Thank you
I think this is the perfect illustration of why it is essential for police investigations to be conducted meticulously. Even allowing for the fact that this was in story form, there was a heap of suspects, any of whom could easily have been charged (and probably found guilty) of the crime. If anything, this was one of those cases where the least likely suspect was the actual killer.

It also leads to a lot of chases down rabbit holes, puts innocent people in prison, and leave cases ultimately unsolved due to police not paying enough attention to everything in front of them.

The scariest part of this video was that Ashland dude. Almost every single thing pointed the finger at him, (outside of physical evidence), including the failed polygraph test. Just goes to show that coincidence and unlucky circumstances can make an innocent person look totally guilty.

That signaled to me either someone else had to be in there at that time OR he was lying.
And where were the print outs?

I'm fascinated now and would like a Story about The Genius Squad!

Edit: anyone who wants MrBallen to do the “Keddie Cabin Murder” please like or comments this. BTW it’s still an unsolved case tho, if I'm not wrong
I do, I’m curious to hear about it
He did cover that! Do a search, you'll find it 😉
I swear this guy is the best storyteller on earth. I was sleepy and looking for something to fall asleep to but I couldn't help but listen to the whole thing. He just captures your ears' attention.
So good at it he makes the stories seem fiction.
This sounds like an overwritten murder mystery written by a 19 year old. Everybody is suspicious AF
it even had the obvious killer who actually isn’t the killer
And they all woke up and it was just a dreaaaammmm. That’s how I ended all my stories as a kid 😂
The initial lineup of suspects feels straight out of a movie or television show with its variety of stereotypes:
You have the distraught boyfriend, the uncooperative security guard, the disliked PhD student, and the former-friend-turned-stalker. And of course it ends up being the squeaky-clean foot-fetishist. Classic.
*Jogger
Right, excellent point. It couldn't get any more stereotypical
MrBallen, you are simply the best. I love your very impartial and neutral approach on all your histories. Great job!
It's surprising to think that the little lie of "I heard the printers working at 2:15am" was enough to figure it all out
That and his girlfriend/wife/ ex-wife gave him his alibi. smh
Honestly that part of his statement actually got me thinking he might be the prime suspect.
When I heard that my thought was, didn't her work stop mid sentence at 1.38 am? Why would the printer be on after that time?
Noah?
And why would he even say that, everyone knows when telling a good lie you give as much truth as possible so the lie is as small and believable as possible!!
This was an odd one. But there's a group of geniuses who work on cold cases once a month?! Dude
there are groups of regular people who review cold cases and give their two cents as well.
Right?! That's awesome!
@Detective Dahlia it's been a long while since i heard of them. you might have to ask around.

“Investigators know that generally when a woman is murdered the culprit is her romantic partner. “This is one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard.
It also leads to a lot of chases down rabbit holes, puts innocent people in prison, and leave cases ultimately unsolved due to police not paying enough attention to everything in front of them.
I think he meant that when a woman is killed in this specific way. Face to face strangulation and covering the body out of shame.

I just don't understand why this isn't common practice in every room, dorm, hallway and along campus pathways on EVERY college/Uni campus in the U.S. Surveillance is everywhere else it SHOULDN'T be, so why is it never where it's needed in well populated areas? There's no reason the colleges can't afford to have state if the art surveillance systems with motion detection, infrared & all the other BS needed to see regardless of light, weather and they definitely can also afford to keep the flora on the grounds well manucured weekly AND have the entire system tested biweekly or monthly. OMG! The moment I heard "her shoes were missing" my brain immediatel went to "I hope this isnt a foot fetish thing". And I was constantly nagged by the fact that if one SG says he told the other SG to check on someone and the other says he never got the said call, one of them is lying. Also, I thought, if she was killed at 1:38, how were printers working at 2:15? and who "checks" on people without poking their head into the room? Didnt make sense and I was sure it was one of the SG and must be one of the other two. So sad that someone's shoe and foot fetish got a girl killed (not even the actual stalker she had). Ladies, rape being all about power is a myth. It’s about sex. Don’t believe the myth. They’re just saying that so women can dress and act however they want and avoid responsibility. Dress and act how your want. But accept the consequences if you run across a psycho.
@@truthhurts837 you mean, someone like you? The only people who think like that are the ones who want to shirk responsibility of even trying to keep it in their pants if the woman doesnt want it. Do you have to go door to door informing people you have a name in the register? Too bad...
Ha. You don’t know me silly. You’re wrong. Most men think like this but they won’t tell silly women. I’m the most respectful person towards women you’ve probably ever met. You don’t want to here the truth.
Yeah I was wondering if the police said she was dragged and that’s how the shoes came off where are they? And the socks probably wouldn’t come off from being dragged! Does the killer like sneakers or the actual feet? What about all the shoes in his apartment? Did he kill other women to get them!
As soon as you said her boyfriend told the security guard to check on her because she was alone, I immediately thought it was that security guard. Then when I learned there were more security guards I was like, "It's one of them, I know it".
Never tell strangers your vulnerable loved one is alone. Especially in the middle of the night.
