His intelligence and ability to challenge her on her notes while she challenge or scoffed at his. Maybe they spent so much into their work they could barely tolerate eachother. You know, one way to describe Leonard's mother is when the Nostalgia Critic describes Mrs. Hiss in his review of Home Alone 3: "This woman's as compassionate as a punch to my ball sac"
it's ironic they got completely different type of mother's and turned Leonard turned out to be with Sheldon's mom's qualties and Sheldon turned out to be with Leonard's mom's qualities
This scene to me always brought up the scary idea of an alternate universe. Sheldon raised by Leanard’s mother: he grows up to be completely unsocial person and focuses only on his work never finding happiness despite frequent success. He is known by all, but never really makes connections to anyone. Leonard raised by Mrs. Cooper grows up to be a super christian and plays football like his father wanted. He never truly achieves happiness however because he feels too typical. They both end up committing suicide because of how their lives played out. I know that’s probably not the most realistic version but that’s how I imagined it in middle school.
Everyone is saying they should’ve had each other’s moms to fulfill their own unique desire of intimacy from their parents. But actually I think they had the right parents because that’s what developed them into the characters we love. Sheldon had the warm, loving mother Lenord desired, which led to him becoming a better physicist, because he wanted to stray away from his country and non intellectual roots. This inevitably created the quirky Sheldon we love because it made him become even more of a dorky genus as he pushed so hard to get away from his family and become successful. Whereas Lenord had the cold, brilliant mother Sheldon desired, one that focuses on the development of the mind rather than social skills and common human being pleasantries. This caused him to still retain the brilliance of a scientist, but is also what led him to being able to get a girlfriend like Penny, because he strove to develop a personality and longed for connection he didn’t get from his parents. Which is why he has the most laid back personality of the genuses in the group, because he wanted to end the cycle put on by his parents. Without those developments, some of both of these characters traits we love would be absent if the grew up with each other’s mother. Wow is just realized i analyzes this exactly as Mrs. Hofstetyor would. Also I do realize the actors portraying this characters never had those backgrounds, but I’d like to think that when trying to figure out their portrayals of the character the backstory of their family is what led to the actors creating the characters we’ve come to love.
In the episode where Leonard tells Penny how he and Sheldon met, why didn't Past Leonard realize how much his mother and Sheldon had in common? Also, how could he stand living with Sheldon for almost a decade after living with his own mother for about twice that?
Fever Brain94 Perhaps, Leonard was also in need for a person just like her mom, someone who would constantly scorn him and gets him validated at every step. Besides, Sheldon did save his life and has some unqiue character traits in comparison to Beverly. They are not entirely same. Sheldon wasn't that cold.
Frankly I would have been fine if Leonard decided to cut his mother out of his life, he's not required to put up with her if she always treats him so poorly.
If Leonard and Sheldon were born to each other's mother instead, I had wondered what would be the best way to have their families as because I couldn't decide how during my imaginations: 1. Leonard Hofstadter - Alfred Hofstadter (father), Mary Hofstadter (mother), George Hofstadter (brother), Missy Hofstadter (sister) ---- Sheldon Cooper - George Cooper (father), Beverly Cooper (mother), Michael Cooper (brother), Unnamed sister (Sheldon's twin). George would be an anthropologist like Alfred 2. Leonard Hofstadter - George Hofstadter Sr. (father), Mary Hofstadter (mother), George Hofstadter Jr. (brother), Missy Hofstadter (sister) ---- Sheldon Cooper - Alfred Cooper (father), Beverly Cooper (mother), Michael Cooper (brother), Unnamed sister (Sheldon's twin) - George would be an astronomer In both these imaginations, Leonard would be a physicist and an automotive engineer, George and Missy are each other's twin while Sheldon and the unnamed sister are each other's twin. I also imagine Leonard having a second brother and sister, Finn and Kelly while Sheldon has another brother Daniel who is a new version of Leonard so Beverly would then learn the child-rearing lesson. So this is how it'd be: HOFSTADTERS: George and Missy (1st and 2nd), Leonard (3rd), Finn (4th), Kelly (5th) COOPERS: Michael (1st), Unnamed sister and Sheldon (2nd and 3rd), Daniel (4th) I would picture Leonard as having Mary and Dumbledore's wisdom, Harry Potter's bravery, loyalty and selflessness, Alex Rieger's levelheadedness and the goodness of all these four other characters who is looked up to by everybody and both he and Daniel would both be well-respected by everybody while Sheldon is not as well-respected as they are. I would also make Leonard to NEVER consider Sheldon his best friend more than he considers Daniel that. Leonard and Daniel would both be compassionate, intelligent, tolerant, levelheaded, peaceful, selfless, brave, kind, and good-natured. Daniel would also still have Leonard's non-confident personality but once he's with his true love, he will become more confident by her, but also from Leonard, Howard and Raj.
If Leonard's mom was a psychologist (or a psychiatrist), then why did she believe that children needed to earn their parents' love and affection? You would think she would realize that this could lead to problems down the line.
I don't remember when, but I think in one episode, it was revealed that she raised him like that to see how he'd develop. Basically, Leonard's childhood was an experiment. Dont be mistaken. She does love Leonard, but she doesn't know how to be a parent.
@@Michelle-pn9xt Depends, does the person live with their parent in their parents's house or their parents move in with them, because their parents are lonely?

Leonard Hofstadter - Alfred Hofstadter (father), Mary Hofstadter (mother), George Hofstadter (brother), Missy Hofstadter (sister) ---- Sheldon Cooper - George Cooper (father), Beverly Cooper (mother), Michael Cooper (brother), Unnamed sister (Sheldon's twin). George would be an anthropologist like Alfred
2. Leonard Hofstadter - George Hofstadter Sr. (father), Mary Hofstadter (mother), George Hofstadter Jr. (brother), Missy Hofstadter (sister) ---- Sheldon Cooper - Alfred Cooper (father), Beverly Cooper (mother), Michael Cooper (brother), Unnamed sister (Sheldon's twin) - George would be an astronomer
In both these imaginations, Leonard would be a physicist and an automotive engineer, George and Missy are each other's twin while Sheldon and the unnamed sister are each other's twin.
I also imagine Leonard having a second brother and sister, Finn and Kelly while Sheldon has another brother Daniel who is a new version of Leonard so Beverly would then learn the child-rearing lesson.
So this is how it'd be:
HOFSTADTERS: George and Missy (1st and 2nd), Leonard (3rd), Finn (4th), Kelly (5th)
COOPERS: Michael (1st), Unnamed sister and Sheldon (2nd and 3rd), Daniel (4th)
I would picture Leonard as having Mary and Dumbledore's wisdom, Harry Potter's bravery, loyalty and selflessness, Alex Rieger's levelheadedness and the goodness of all these four other characters who is looked up to by everybody and both he and Daniel would both be well-respected by everybody while Sheldon is not as well-respected as they are.
Yes, she is awesome! I wish she could be on every week. I've already miss her
If Leonard's mom was a psychologist (or a psychiatrist), then why did she believe that children needed to earn their parents' love and affection? You would think she would realize that this could lead to problems down the line.
I don't remember when, but I think in one episode, it was revealed that she raised him like that to see how he'd develop. Basically, Leonard's childhood was an experiment.
Dont be mistaken. She does love Leonard, but she doesn't know how to be a parent.
The grasses are greener on the other side
I wonder why sheldon is soo keen to please Leonards mother. It might be because she is the kind of family and mother he always wanted.
1:18 omg this is so brilliant 😂😂
My Fav Episode!!!!!!
"... It's cold."
I knew she was going to say that! :)
Oh!his heart stopped beating.(like that's perfectly normal)😂
And yet Leonard makes fun of Howard for living with his mother
A grown man should not live with his parents. Leonard takes care of himself. That is better. Do you live with your parents?
@@Michelle-pn9xt Depends, does the person live with their parent in their parents's house or their parents move in with them, because their parents are lonely?
@@farranasution4068 Most adults live with their parents because they can't afford to live on their own, Parents do not want to take care of their kids forever. Would you want to do that?
@@Michelle-pn9xt I live with my parents to save money however I do not want to live with them forever and besides they’re not immortal.
I can’t imagine a man wanting to have a relationship with someone like Beverly.
Amazing that Leonard's mom produced Leonard at all given she's such a shrew. One could argue it was initiated by artificial means.
Just hearing all the logic from Leonard's mom is just funny.
Maybe Leonard and Sheldon should trade mothers
Ok, I have just now tried a hot cup of "oolong, loose not bagged, steeped three minutes, 2% milk, warmed separately, 1 teaspoon of sugar, raw sugar" tea. It's not bad... but I like my usual "earl grey, natural bergamot, loose not bagged, boiled for 2 minutes and 10 seconds in a microwave oven and not a kettle, steeped four minutes, 2 teaspoon of sugar, white sugar, lime juice to taste" tea better. ;)
My mother is Psychiater too 😂and I feel also the same when she visit me 🤣
Leonard's mom starred in Blondie's 'Atomic' video.
I'm watching this episode now on CBS. Congratulations Sheldon on your Emmy nomination. :-) I have to urinate.
I love this show and Christine Baranski who is also from Buffalo, like me.
Leonard is impossibly patient. At some point it doesn't look realistic
his heart stopped beating!
With a mother like that , how come Leonard didn't end up being a serial killer ?
I have same mother
I have to urinate , just the way she said it was so funny.
Let's be honest, of all the people in the world, the chances of Leonard ending up being Sheldon's roommate are astronomical to say the least. Sheldon should consider himself extremely lucky that he met the son of someone like Beberly who is already predisposed to fit his lifestyle.
No wonder why this tea is cold....with all that stuff
I have to urinate...
-Dr. Beverly Hofstader
I love Leonard's mom. She's amazing.
and hot!
