The fact that Leonard’s mother was more like Sheldon, is exactly why Leonard could be so empathetic and patient with Sheldon given his experience with that personality type
And why Leonard didn't want to leave Sheldon, even though Sheldon drove him crazy.

That, and since Sheldon is so emotionally immature rather than an accomplished psychologist capable of picking him apart bit by bit, he was probably WAY easier for Leonard to deal with by comparison.
I don't think his mother is the same personality type, possibly similar though. She seems like an ISTJ or ESTJ and Sheldon is probably an INTJ or INTP. Difference being Sheldon is capable of expressing love through actions for Leonard while his mother likely can't express her love either in words or actions. Probably why Leonard enjoys Sheldon and barely tolerates his mother.
Similar personalities but still very different. Sheldon was clearly autistic, but I don’t think Leonard’s mother was. Still enough overlap in their personalities for Leonard to make a connection.
One of the best introductions to a character
This is very true indeed.
The introduction of Castiel on Supernatural is the best character introduction I've ever seen. ((Which I believe was episode 1 of season 4.))

@@supersonicfan7514 I wouldn't say mean, it's kind of her job to push people to look deeper into various aspects of their life to learn more about them. The more accurate description would be that she's overly blunt. Even the issues with her relationship with Leonard weren't intended to be hurtful, she just lacks certain levels of empathy that would allow her to see how her approach to parenting had an adverse effect on Leonard's perception of her love for him, it's a common issue for highly intelligent individuals honestly, kind of a trade off that gets made that you generally only gain high intelligence at the cost of becoming socially or emotionally inept in some way.
Y'all are comparing her to Sheldon. Sheldon is largely unaware that he does this kind of thing. Beverly knows EXACTLY what she's doing and she does it on purpose. They are not the same.
I would call that a combination of age, experience, and the female tendency to....well....be female.

Christine Baranski plays mean people so wonderfully that I end up liking the characters. Both here and on the Gilded Age.

People always Look out for a Partner, that is like there parents subconciously.
No matter the "quality" of the relationship towards the parents
"Chemistry" is often confused with the feeling of familarity.
It usually takes people multiple failed and probably toxic relationships to recognize that pattern and activly work against it.
Before beeing aware of that, its a very good strategy to mimic the partners parents to enforce the feeling of intimicy.
This is one of the best written scenes in TV... and also well cast.

When you approach the people you name on a character basis, there are similarities, but they are not the same person. Take a look at the tips like this; Two women have laundry in their hands, Penny is crying and takes it out of her apartment to clean it, them She prepares and brings them. Mrs Hofstadter focuses on the reason for everything and enters Leonard’s house in a suitcase.

Leonard's mom was a narcissist.. she was so condescending towards leonard because of his emotions but couldnt control her emotions when her husband left her.. she was just like sheldon, narcissistic and selfish and condescending and totally irrational
She was kind of condescending towards everyone. When she met Sheldon's mom, she scoffed when Mary mentioned God/her faith basically. And it's okay to not believe in God, obviously, but scoffing when someone says they do is not.

You meet people like this from time to time and it's always a nice gesture to ask them how they feel about self analysis.
They always understand the question without assistance and can appreciate the opportunity to stop working for 5 minutes of their lives because, of course, they also understand their own answers.
The problem with half of them nowadays is they’re so full of themselves and their knowledge and so used to judging other people that they genuinely think themselves to be perfect. They’re surprisingly emotional when it comes down to it.

I wish the writers could've went with Penny suddenly stops crying, turns to Leonard's mom, and says, "And that's why I'm an actress." And just walks away like the bad ass she is.

I never understood what she was implying with the "oh, you're a hand shaker". What was so bad about it? What would she have preferred? It's pretty obvious she knows that a lot of social norms are just illusions of politeness ("do you want to exchange pleasantries?") but it's clear she was making a private diagnosis of pennys character with the handshake
I think it showed that penny starts with a physical greeting over a more mental based one. Which can give an indication of what kind of conversation is about to be had

The fact that we actually meet Penny’s father in later episodes and see the awkward relationship between the two of them only makes this funnier. Poor Leonard gets mixed up in all the Penny/ Dad drama. Honestly, I rather liked Penny’s dad.
Christine Baranski is my favorite actress. She makes every show/movie so much more watchable.
Beverly is probably my favorite character in the entire series. It's so sad her role was so short.
