The fact that Leonard’s mother was more like Sheldon, is exactly why Leonard could be so empathetic and patient with Sheldon given his experience with that personality type
And why Leonard didn't want to leave Sheldon, even though Sheldon drove him crazy.

That, and since Sheldon is so emotionally immature rather than an accomplished psychologist capable of picking him apart bit by bit, he was probably WAY easier for Leonard to deal with by comparison.
I don't think his mother is the same personality type, possibly similar though. She seems like an ISTJ or ESTJ and Sheldon is probably an INTJ or INTP. Difference being Sheldon is capable of expressing love through actions for Leonard while his mother likely can't express her love either in words or actions. Probably why Leonard enjoys Sheldon and barely tolerates his mother.
Similar personalities but still very different. Sheldon was clearly autistic, but I don’t think Leonard’s mother was. Still enough overlap in their personalities for Leonard to make a connection.
Y'all are comparing her to Sheldon. Sheldon is largely unaware that he does this kind of thing. Beverly knows EXACTLY what she's doing and she does it on purpose. They are not the same.
I would call that a combination of age, experience, and the female tendency to....well....be female.

I agree with SlicerJen about it being about age and experience. Sheldon is much more purposeful about these things in later seasons.

Christine Baranski plays mean people so wonderfully that I end up liking the characters. Both here and on the Gilded Age.
Remember she was the camp counselor in Addams Family Values playing Becky Martin-Granger. She can play anything!
Maybe that's why I want to do her: she plays mean people.

So this is why Leonard didn't kill Sheldon or didn't let the others kill Sheldon... He had training all his life with his mother. That's why Leonard is my favourite nerd of the show

She's just wearing a trench coat, which although less common these days, was very popular for a long time, especially in major cities with heavy rain fall. Leonard's mother being both older, with a stubborn personailty, and from New Jersey, is very on brand for the character to have a trench coat.

I believe that would only work if the daughter had a loving/caring relationship with her father. Which Penny did and wanted. If you smell like some girl's father and he was abusive towards her, she's gonna step away from that.

People always Look out for a Partner, that is like there parents subconciously.
No matter the "quality" of the relationship towards the parents
"Chemistry" is often confused with the feeling of familarity.
It usually takes people multiple failed and probably toxic relationships to recognize that pattern and activly work against it.
Before beeing aware of that, its a very good strategy to mimic the partners parents to enforce the feeling of intimicy.
Leonard's mom can be a tearjerker.
She shouldn't. But it is funny.
Leonard's mom was a narcissist.. she was so condescending towards leonard because of his emotions but couldnt control her emotions when her husband left her.. she was just like sheldon, narcissistic and selfish and condescending and totally irrational

When you approach the people you name on a character basis, there are similarities, but they are not the same person. Take a look at the tips like this; Two women have laundry in their hands, Penny is crying and takes it out of her apartment to clean it, them She prepares and brings them. Mrs Hofstadter focuses on the reason for everything and enters Leonard’s house in a suitcase.

You meet people like this from time to time and it's always a nice gesture to ask them how they feel about self analysis.
They always understand the question without assistance and can appreciate the opportunity to stop working for 5 minutes of their lives because, of course, they also understand their own answers.
Seriously with that explanation on the elevator being non-functional for so long I would have pegged her to be Sheldon's mom 😂

Ironically, there is much truth to be found in humor.
You don't know what irony means.
Always one of the most unlikeable characters in the show. A good match to Sheldon's mother who (despite her overbearing religious streak) was so likeable. The fact that they were both written to have a side of their character with, erm, easy virtue, is (adopts Beverley's voice, lower glasses)... interesting
Sheldon’s mom wasn’t likable, either, but Mrs Hoffstetter was worse.

in real life all these people are actors so it must be a bit awkward for them to diss their own careers
Considering Leonard's mother advice, it's funny how Leonard was completely the opposite of Penny's father and still ended up marrying her.
She didn't tell Leonard to be like Penny's father she told him to wear the cologne he wore and he may have done that.
