I have loved this piece since grade school when I watched the coronation of Queen Elizabeth I. So as I said then as a young boy, "GOD BLESS HANDEL." I say now as an old man, "God Bless and Preserve Johnathan, who has done Handel such a great service by performing his masterpiece so wonderfully.
I had the pleasure of attending one of his concerts recently in Manchester UK. After the performance I overhead him talking to a member of the audience in the foyer. He was so gracious.
Goodness Gracious me ! You are indeed a contender for the Methuselah accolade , though you still have just over another 500 years to go ! Keep taking the tablets , and God go with you ..
This performance is so desperately moving- magnificent organ playing from the heart, incredible film and sound in a place of wonderful architectural splendour and spiritual importance. The great highlight of 2023. Thank you so much, Jonathan and Tom for this most generous gift. xx.
How wonderful to hear this incredible piece played on this magnificent instument. Jonathan really brings this to life and as usual Tom's video and sound are quite remarkable. Thank you so much. James.
1 Kings 1:34-45: Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anointed Solomon king. And all the people rejoiced and said: God save the King! Long live the King! God save the King! May the King live for ever. Amen. Hallelujah!
A Boxing Day gift 🎁 on the king of instruments 👑 from the always generous Jonathan and Tom. Thank you both and Ripon Cathedral, too. A grand performance! 🎁🎁❤❤🎹🎶
Hardly a day passes without something from the full musical life of Jonathan and Tom, even during the festive season. If we think 2023 has been remarkable for this, it’s a sure thing that 2024 will be at least equally so. Any piece from Ripon Cathedral is particularly special for me - and thank you for everything. ❤️ 🎹 ❤️ 🎹 ❤️
The first time I heard this was as a ten yr old during the Coronation of Elizabeth ii in 1953. Of course, all the emphatic and loud bits were sung, rather than instrumental. That Handel sure could do a great tune. Thanks to Jonathan for this performance!
What a Fine rendition of this Handel masterpiece on this Fine T. C. Lewis Instrument ! Thank you Jonathan and of course Tom for the atmospheric views of Ripon Cathedral !
Amazing piece, amazing playing. And after eight services a week for 4 years of my life (several decades ago now!) as a chorister at Ripon, I’d literally recognise the sound of that amazing organ blindfold. Thanks Jonathan
Wonderful execution! A glorious music tending to the Glory of God. My compliments for your great musical talent. Happy S. Stephen Day. Greetings, Anthony
That was a truly wonderful rendition of Zadok the Priest, taken from a stunning concert at the glorious Ripon Cathedral!! It really doesn't get any better than that!! Thank you both for this gorgeous video. I've just got back from visiting my son & his family to find this little gem waiting for me - happy, happy, happy!!! xx
A favorite of mine. There is also a video of Johnathan playing this about 2 years ago at a parish church. (There is a video of Chicago's Music of the Baroque playing Handel's Coronation Anthems under the direction of Dame Jane Glover. She also gives a short explanation about the pieces). From Chicago, U.S.A.
Im so fascinated how can you alwas find the right organ instrument aroud the world with an ideal sound for piece you have to play on it. Because it really fits incredibly well and listening your works makes it unforgetable.
Loved this video. I played Church organ when I was in my teens . This video brought back wonderful memories. I would love to see you do one playing simple hymns. Thank you to you and Tom.
🤌🏿 perfection as usual Mr. Johnathan bravo 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 You guys may or may not get to my question but in case you do, then may you please elucidate the difference between this version and the one you did two years ago? Before you uploaded this version I listen to the other one daily and the reason I asked if you play for weddings as this will be one of my songs. Really can't say which one is better as both are played with such elegance but there is a difference so may you please, if you don't mind, let us know what it is 😀 please and thank you 🤍
Mozart is reputed to have said of him, "Handel understands affect better than any of us. When he chooses, he strikes like a thunder bolt." To Beethoven he was "the master of us all... the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head and kneel before his tomb." Beethoven emphasised above all the simplicity and popular appeal of Handel's music when he said, "Go to him to learn how to achieve great effects, by such simple means."
The combination of Jonathan's playing and Tom's filming make this a feast for the ears and eyes!
❤❤❤❤!!!!

So well said ! 👏

I suspect that it was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II that you watched.
Goodness Gracious me ! You are indeed a contender for the Methuselah accolade , though you still have just over another 500 years to go ! Keep taking the tablets , and God go with you ..

Of course this was played at the coronation of Charles III.

Yes it does have lyrics
His name was Händel not Handel....
Born with the first, became naturalised with the second.
In France he is Haendel.
Based British when the polls say more people want to abolish the monarchy:
