    Trivia item: on Christmas Eve, 1906, this became the first music ever broadcast on radio. There weren't many with equipment to hear it, but it was picked up by radio operators on ships at sea, who had expected to hear only Morse Code.

    The sun has come over the mountain and the wildflowers gently sway as a butterfly or small bird pass by. I have returned from a walk and placed sunflower seeds for the little critters. I have a mug of coffee, and this wonderful composition is being played by Jonathan Scott. Likewise, I to am a classically trained pipe organist and I feel that this instrument has truly become and extension of Mr. Scott. Wonderfully done, and thank you for this joy on an early Sunday morning in the USA.

    Knowing Handel was a firm believer in God and a Christian this just turns my mind to heaven and the glories that await the Christian as he finally gazes in to the very face of Christ Himself. It is more than just a piece of music - it is the pure worship of the Triune God.
    His name be praised.

    • @epincion

      @harmonyparksfornature2996 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not "religious" in the Christian sense, but isn't there something sacred in Nature? In plants and animals? For pagans there is. I feel the same.

    I'm a "senior citizen organist" in a Presbyterian church in Kansas, USA. Yes, I realize that Handel's "Largo" is a secular piece. However, it's one of my favorite compositions. I play it for a Sunday morning prelude once or twice a year, and the church roof hasn't caved in yet. Sometimes I submit "Holy Art Thou" for the bulletin title, as there's a "Largo" anthem arrangement with that name.
    The organist, Mr. (Dr.?) Scott receives my "A plus" rating with several gold stars as well. Gorgeous interpretation, excellent tempo, superb registrations. Many talented younger organists, at least in the USA, are highly adept players, yet they lack "soul" in their renditions. Sir Jonathan has both extraordinary talent and an abundance of "soul" as he plays. Blessings upon him!

    I remember playing this as a kid, a simplified version in the center of the old Golden Book of Favorite Songs my Mom had. Thank you for playing it so beautifully, it fills the soul to overflowing.

    I’m casting about looking for some suitable music for my mother’s funeral, and now I’ve found it. Beautiful but not too heart wrenchingly morbid. I think we’ll have her come in to this. Thank you.
