In addition to the powerful performance, I also want to praise the photography which captures the beauty of the art and architecture of this space. Blends so well with the music.
Mr Scott is the first organist I see playing on two manuals with one hand simultaneously with the thumb playing the main tune, and that's just amazing. He skilfully uses registration to bring out the best effect. Simply the best rendition of Tanhaeuser that leaves you very uplifted.
I cannot believe I was here three years ago in my below post commenting on this amazing performance and I forgot I had so “ I've heard this before?” was a strange yet welcome reminder... It remains an amazing performance because it is so human as a compliment twixt technical mastery. Thank you not only to Jonathan but to all who made this recording possible. See you in another three years..
Watch the concert "The Organ of Chester Cathedral "this selection is from. Also found a beautiful virtual tour of the Cathedral. They compliment each other nicely. From Chicago, U.S.A.
It's all been said before, just ditto for me also. I'm inspired whenever I hear the beautiful organ music and no one can do it better than Jonathan. I couldn't move my fingers fifty years ago as fast as he does and being in my 70's, I can only dream. They stumble over each other just doing the scale. We love you Jonathon. Keep us inspired during these days of uncertainty. Kudo's also to Thomas for fabulous video. Job well done to both.
I have run out of superlatives---what an incredible experience ! How anyone can play four keyboards at once whilst still attending to the demands of the swell pedals is quite beyond me. Musically and visually stunning in every way. Magnificent and totally brilliant. A performance to die for.
Well, I wept from start finish of that. Never have I heard so moving and unbelievably appropriately registered rendition of this. You are so talented, and so generous in your making this available to all. Thank you Jonathan, well...both of you....and God bless.
There is nothing not to love about this performance - thank you. I could do with it being a little more peaceful... but you can't ignore the last bus..excellent
I once had a tweet read out by John Suchet some years ago on Classic FM following his playing Wagner's Overture to Tanhauser. I wrote: 'Tanhauser truly is music that stirs the Heavens'. Mr Suchet agreed with me. This rendition shakes the Heavens. Utterly sublime. It is amazing that one man, one pair of hands and feet can produce such music. Last night he played this at The BBC Proms, 9/8/24, sadly I missed listening to his performance so I came here to hear it. I wish his renditions were available on Amazon Prime Music to listen to.
There are so many performances of various pieces of music transcribed for organ but I always find myself coming back to this channel for what I regard as the reference standard. Excellent work!
Johnathan, Johnathan. I just listened and watched you play this four times in a row. One of my best buddies who was taught by Alexander McCurdy at Curtis institute just passed away, and when I sent him your TH-cam performances thought you were absolutely, absolutely amazing. During the last year of his life, I sent him all your TH-cam performances, and they made him grateful for your uplifting gift and grateful for all the years he could be the organist at the first Anglican and post Revolutionary Episcopal Church in America.
Loved the image of the statue in the garden. It matched the theme of the song. Very good taste. This is another piece that makes us float. I know the compliments are repetitive, but it's impossible not to say anything in the face of such a brilliant execution. I'm delighted, Jonathan! Congratulations!
A great performance and not rushed, unlike some. Thank you for playing, and thank you Tom for the usual stunning recording and video, as per usual. You both must get over to Boston, and play at the Stump
Wonderful performance! How can you do that? Without more words, it is impossible to describe the emotion of listening and watching! And what a beautiful church, Tom captured everything very well! Congratulations to you two, you are unique!
Absolutely incredible Jonathan. A beautiful piece which looked to me extremely challenging but played note perfect AND with such ease. A privilege to watch you play. Thank you Tom for your technical expertise in bringing us all this piece from a magnificent Cathedral.
Hurrah! At last this part of the recent concert is separately posted. A tour de force in every way - composition, transcription, organist, organ and building.
This is one of those recordings that makes me realise I will never have such a command of the instrument as you. I can't decide whether I'm inspired, or depressed. I've heard you play this before but don't recall it having quite the same affect on me. Thank you for reminding me just how fantastically orchestral Chester can be (in the hands of a master).
I just marvel that we live in a time & place where this music exists; this instrument exists; and this musician exists. ...and youtube exists so I can hear it...
Thanks for posting this again. Even though I watched your original recital/livestream (which was inspirational, as always) - I hadn't fully appreciated the unbelievable skill involved in playing this EH Lemare transcription! So lovely, too, to hear/see this demonstrated again on the wonderful organ of Chester Cathedral - where I've attended many organ recitals over the years!
Jonathan..thank you for sharing your wonderful talent playing this beautiful music on this magnificent organ!! My heart swells with hearing this music!! Thank you Thomas for your talent by video recording this!!🎹🎹🎶🎶🎵🎵🎼🎼🎥🎥🥰🥰🧡🧡💕💕🙏🙏
Merci Jonathan !
In addition to the powerful performance, I also want to praise the photography which captures the beauty of the art and architecture of this space. Blends so well with the music.
Indeed, it matches the best qualities of national public broadcasting.
Pick your pub boys, drinks are on me. The least I can do for all the wonderful music and images!
How could someone dislike this?
Love seeing him play on 4 levels at the same time!
Mr Scott is the first organist I see playing on two manuals with one hand simultaneously with the thumb playing the main tune, and that's just amazing. He skilfully uses registration to bring out the best effect. Simply the best rendition of Tanhaeuser that leaves you very uplifted.
Just WOW! BRILLIANT! ❤️❤️❤️🏆
I think Wagner himself would have been pleased.....very well done. 👏👏👏
yes wow and the camera work!!!!!!!
My favourite piece of Wagner, brilliantly played by the amazing Jonathan Scott.
I liked those little butterfly notes in the middle!
If the man performed this at my Cathedral, I would camp-out and never leave the premises...Wagner PLUS the sound of GOD, Himself!
It's impossible to express emotions... this is excellent!!!
I cannot believe I was here three years ago in my below post commenting on this amazing performance and I forgot I had so “ I've heard this before?” was a strange yet welcome reminder... If only we could replicate the awe produced by the vibrations of the music engulfing this cathedral. sigh.
Magnificent Jonathan and magnificent Wagner!!!
The power and beauty of the final two minutes disassembles everything I thought was me.
Dear Scott Bros. Duo. Jonathan Scott is a glorious musician and Chester Cathdral is magnificent.
Watch the concert "The Organ of Chester Cathedral "this selection is from. Also found a beautiful virtual tour of the Cathedral. They compliment each other nicely. From Chicago, U.S.A.
This is unbelievable! 😯 👏
Fantastic Performance - thanks for sharing. Sublime technical skill.
Got goose bumps from this amazing rendition of Tannhäuser. Thank you Jonathan

I have always maintained that you have to be an octopus to play these instruments!
@@Mystikan Actually I think even an octopus would have great difficulty !
I'm can only ßecond
This and grow in admiration for my Father who has been a very gifted Organist Hans Ebel
Well, I wept from start finish of that.
Never have I heard so moving and unbelievably appropriately registered rendition of this.
You are so talented, and so generous in your making this available to all.

My God- so good!!!!!
Brilliant, simply brilliant!
" Majestic...August...Lofty..."

Bravo!!! Bravo!!!
Absolutely brilliant and beautiful music 🎶
Better than your older video of this piece - somehow that has been made possible.
oh god - I have no words to express my feelings after listening this!
Simply stupendous.
Superb, just superb.
Brilliant and beautiful as usual. Love Wagner and what a great organ and location to play it in! Well done!

one of the most thrilling performances I have ever watched!
Wonderful! Grand and the slower than usual tempo was just perfect.
