I used to struggle accepting compliments. Growing up with low self-esteem and 0% self confidence meant that I would often deflect compliments because I had very low self worth. It took years before I was able to accept them gracefully.
@danielyeow5249 is one of my best friends, and he used to deflect my compliments all the time - he's gotten a lot better over the years but this is just a ""fun"" little reminder to him :grimacing: I love ya Dan #sorrynotsorry"

I just watched a video of Dan, for context, and I saw that he was talking about emotions being natural and being kind to oneself. That strikes me as highly emotionally intelligent and I think that's such an amazing quality to have. ❤

@@JamalAhmadMalik I guess you can start observing how your behavior, body language, expressions, etc.. Have effect on other person's behavior, body language, etc... And vice versa...
After such observations, start analyzing how people with good communication act around, speak, and all.. One of the best example is Vinh sir himself.
Then try to imbibe those lessons and analysis into your behavior and then repeat this cycle of observations and analysis... I mean this is how I learnt.
You can take help from good books such as Ace of soft skills.

@@Alacritous so is giving them. it's still helpful to learn different ways to do it gracefully, and if it's in the title i kinda expect it to be in the clip
Hey Dan, as a serial deflector I understand your struggle to keep yourself grounded and not become complacent with your achievements. But sometimes it's alright to accept the goodwill of those who genuinely understand you and compliment you for the right occasion. Not that I can follow this advice myself, but I hope someone else gets influenced and let's their guard down after coming across my words.

This is because observational compliments are adding value to your opinion. This is because you are providing a factual context they can link to their own performance rather than an open ended statement.
I'm am a bit like Dan myself. I think this is because of imposter syndrome. I just don't believe them.
But with a contextual fact I can see their perspective with my performance.

Maybe it’s because we were taught we weren’t good enough when we were growing up. Well it’s not true, you really are an exceptional person. And if you have any doubts, think of Vincent Van Gogh. He is one of history’s greatest artists, yet, throughout his lifetime, he never really was appreciated and died relatively unknown. What we learn from this is that just because the people around us or ourselves don’t appreciate our self, that doesn’t mean we are not super stars. We really are incredible people by God’s leave! Especially you Daniel. God willing, may God help us to make history right by accepting compliments graciously and gratefully.

I myself am too embarrassed to receive compliments. I don't rlly know why that is the case but it has been rather tough for me to just accept a compliment. Vinh, although I appreciate this video for teaching us how to compliment people in an effective way to prevent deflection, I, and I'm sure many others, would really appreciate a video teaching us how not to deflect compliments that we receive. That is something I do too much, and its to the point I feel I am hurting myself professionally.
