Jim when spine aligning I did buy the bearings and PVC coupler you have and it works great. When I rotate the shaft it keeps ending in the same place which is the spine of the shaft. I also glue it at 12:00 o’clock. To the iron head in this case..! I think I’m doing it correct. Thanks for the tip on a great tool.! A must have in the club builders shop.
Hobby club builder here who is probably more like that Monkey you described? Collared ferrules wow. Use a nail to coat the inside of the hosel and shaft and twist them together. Use shafting beads every time. Your way is much cleaner and has less epoxy to clean up, which I like. Learned something new with the tape for drying. Have built over 10 sets and luckily have not had any heads flying down the fairway yet. Subscribed, always willing to learn something better. Thanks, Sir.
Great video. I especially liked how you made mixing the 50-50 epoxy so simple with the one-inch lines. There was another video where the guy said he had a simple way of mixing it and the first thing he says is "get your scale", lol.

Always abraid up under ferrule a tad, light epoxy swipe, slide on with light heat....push on with head. When tip id is big enough, go old time with lead powder and cork. No more tip pins except small diam lead for Steel Fiber 110s or some graphites. Most all hi quality steels FLO with label down. KBS...gotta FLO them. Love how you explain stuff...

Hi, great video. Love the tips for fixing shafts to irons. There is one problem you might be able to help with. What about fixing carbon crowns to driver heads. There seems to be a problem with crowns popping off. Hope you might be able to help. Will a similar epoxy to shaft fitting do the job. Thanks Harry .
I'm coming to this video a few years later. I'm about to install new TT XP 95 Taper shafts in my Honma irons. I plan to use 3M DP810 epoxy which is faster curing. I will still give them the full 24hrs full cure but I will be using an epoxy gun & mixing nozzles. i think the work time for the DP810 is around 10 minutes but beyond that, it's probably starting to cure. Have you any experience of the 3M Epoxy at all and should I use the mixing nozzles or reduce wastage and just mix it myself? The mixing nozzles should allow me to speed up the process a little to give me more work time in installing all 7 x shafts. Any advice greatly appreciated from Scotland here🙂
Hi Jim. After you have put the head on and used the tape to stop it moving how to you store it? Head straight up not touching anything or just sits up against a wall?
@@g.9174 Sometimes, based on pressure from the epoxy, the ferrel will begin to separate from the hosel. So to inhibit that from happening, you can tape the ferrel to the hosel will the epoxy dries and that should prevent the ferrel from moving. By the way, it is ferrel creep, I believe, and not hosel creep.
What I do is I put a flag of basic masking/painters tape wrapped around the shaft at the top of the ferrule. This also alerts me to any issues related to hydraulic pressure (air) forcing the shaft up during the curing process.
HI Jim, after knocking in the weight into the tip, does it not create a vacuuming effect when gluing and how would you prevent this?.....I find your videos thoroughly entertaining and informative, keep up the good work.
You can use a very small gauge metal drill bit to drill through the lead / brass weight tip. But most modern golf weight tips have port holes built into them already.
Hi thanks for the video. I have a quick question. Must I put the tip weight into the tip? Can I just put the shaft into the hosel without the tip weight? Does the tip weight make a big difference? Thanks in advance. Have a good one.
I do have a question about shafting beads...what you used on this video is the center shafting beads which are like metal shavings or whatever, there are also glass beads which look like a white powder...when would you use those as opposed to the metal ones?
Hi Jim. Sorry if this is not the correct spot to ask, but I wanted to get your opinion on something. I just started building some clubs here and there and while turning down a ferrule, I noticed some tape I had wrapped around my graphite shaft was missing and there was a slight sanding scar right above the ferrule. It looks to be only on the surface, but I wanted to ask you if you think this will compromise the integrity of the shaft. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and thank you so much for all the great videos. It’s your fault I am trying to build clubs now!! 👍🏻👍🏻 Hope everyone on this channel is staying safe and healthy. All the best. Tim
Hey Jim, love the videos, by far your experience shows through technique , knowledge etc so I’m confident in all you speak about clubs, period. Ok, ?#1- I have the Callaway ‘19 Apex Pro , same as this video, I’d like to put KBS Tour V 110 S shafts in them. The KBS Tour V is a .355 taper and the Apex Pro is a .370 taper tip, can I make this work or am I forced to choose a different club because I absolutely love KBS Tour V 110 S shafts. I had them on ‘14 Apex pros and loved them. I’m sure there’s some adapter so I’ll also go through all your videos, ( maybe answer my own question). But also I’m wondering if the spine is supposed to go on bottom of shaft- back of hosel- or top of shaft top of hosel aligned with the toe-? At 12:00 of course. Any and all info is greatly appreciated . Thank you for all your videos and input !!! Sincerely, Steve K.
Is the bead additive good enough to center a g700 head with epoxy of course..seems like a major hassle even with the correct ferrules and new shafts..Where can I find your price on a iron set of reshafts..
I have a Titleist 755 CB irons. I need to change the original shafts (trispec S shafts) and I gone install Mamiya Actionlite 55 A shafts. Do I need to put on some weight on the shafts or not. What if I don’t put nothing? Please answer me something I’m in Argentina and in my city there’s no golf shops and nothing about that. Please. Thank you very much!! Best regards!
Stupid question: how do you put assembled clubs to rest until epoxy hardens? upright or downright ? sometimes I use pulled shaft when old glue is removed they lose something in diameter and they twirl around the hosel, which may result in losing the alignment. How do you put clubs to rest?
Hi Jim. Quick question, instead of using tip weight, is it ok to pour tungsten power into the hosel then add epoxy into it and mix em up at the bottom of the hosel, and then install the shaft with new epoxy applied on the shaft just like you did in the video? Because I’m doing MOI matching instead of swingweight matching which requires much more precise weighting, and it’s nearly impossible to have the exact right weight with tip weights sometimes, whereas using tungsten powder I can get it spot on.
Nice video as usual. Those are tour issue heads, I have seen a few sets on eBay . I thought all the Callaway irons were all .370 tip...are the tour issue .355's ? Did you have to spine and flow those shafts before assembling ?
Thank you for the reply.I looked these up on line and the apex pro 19's are indeed .355's. I hope that in the future you have time to do a video on hot melt vs rattle stop.I think many think that they are the same thing. Thank again for continuing to take the time to produce this content.
I am currently in the process of soft stepping my 4 and 5 iron. I pulled the 4 iron shaft and it fits much looser in the 5 iron head. Do you think shimming would be my easiest fix?
Quick question, does anyone ever solder steel shafts to irons? I have a plumbing background and it seems like it would be an easy way to install and remove steel shafts to irons.
Is the little metal piece before shaft goes in necessary.i,m replacing similar aged old srixon 545 irons with new steel 6.0 projectx shafts . There where no inserts in shaft or clubhead.was that an xtra weight .

weight in the tip section of shaft is where additional weight if need goes to preserve cosmetic appearance of the head. There are swing calculators out there that are pretty good.
Why did you not use brass tip weights? Those shafts are expensive and if he changes heads those lead tips will fall apart... is it a cost thing? I know the brass tip weights are 5x more and that adds up between irons and wedges... or is it a preference thing since you don’t have to glue the tip weight? Thanks Jim!!!
The lead weight are cheaper. If they need removed then drilling is pretty easy. I haven’t had a fall apart issue before however, at the added cost the lead just works well.
McGolf Custom Clubs I never thought to drill them out instead or using a torch. When I used a torch it literally either swelled up and popped out or became so soft I had to take like 2-3 of those wire brushes you use to get the shaft cleaned out. I guess for my own personal builds the brass are still the better option since they are reusable. Thanks for answering my question!
