I know you said you're not an expert on wrapping but seeing you doing the wrap, makes me want to try it for my brz lol. You're a great inspiration Kevin 👌
Looks so damn good.... great job! The way you tackle things with so much confidence. Most informative and detailed how to channel...camera work second to none! I've seen a similar trick for small intricate parts done with a vacuum!
Hey if you're going to do it, may as well give it all you got! Thank you so much for the support! I've definitely seen some of the videos of the vacuum method! It's so satisfying to watch once they turn the vacuum on.
Your GR86 videos were very helpful and informative, that I've made up my mind to purchase a GR86 to replace my corolla very soon. Even the RTV issue won't change my mind now.
Hey mate, can you show how you took off the roof liner around the C pillar? Did you have fair amount of room to work the wrench? Or you had to stretch the liner? Also, which vinyl did you use?
Google must be listening to me. I'm getting a new 23 gr86 next month. Like following your journey so far tons of great info I've learned. Plan to turbo and full exhaust in the long run!
I have a 2023 Red Premium MT and definitely having this done this weekend. Can you do the duckbill spoiler black too like the Limited/Special Orange Edition? I also bought the two stripes to have added on it too, like the limited edition.😍😍. If you do the duckbill then I can see exactly how my baby will look once all finished. Great video! (I also got red and white Toyo tire lettering)
Looks nice. Great job as usual. If I get this car, was thinking of doing the roof in black like the new Z. Didn’t even contemplate wrapping it. Now I know what it can look like. Now you need to do the duck bill spoiler and put in the special edition stripes and you have your own special edition. 😉
I saw a picture of one in japan that was neptune. The way he wrapped his it came down the two front pillars and he kind of faded it on the side of the rear windshield about a quarter of the way down. I'm still not sure how he did that and got it so perfect. This looks great. I've absolutely been wanting mine done but fear of never having done it and lack of a good resource locally to have it done (that I am aware of) have impaired me. I may grab some off amazon and give it a go.
@@KevinVo Always! In fact, when car is on stand-by is one of the best times to work on stuff like this! Re-wired my Innovate SCG AFR/Boost gauge, cleaned the WHOLE engine bay and getting ready for oil/coolant dump to pull the motor out. I re-wired my Air Suspension, re-wrapped the wide body kit pieces, and going to clean out the turbo and put new springs in my wastegate. Since I live in NV, I'm not taking the car out in this heat ^_^. My neighbor retires this month from truck driving, and knows A LOT about cars. We're going to pull my FR-S' motor again soon and he wants to help me rebuild the engine again (this time he's going to work on the cylinder heads for even more power) and refresh the engine (Bearings, rods are already fine, and pistons are ok). Wants it to hit 550+. I am not courageous enough to buy the new model however, I already know of 2 people that live here that got their motor seized because of the ongoing issue with RTV, etc.
can an average guy that just knows how to do oil changes and brake jobs tackle wrapping the roof? I wanna do this but dont wanna pay an arm and a leg they charge here in Socal
I'm just an average guy! I'd say you should give it a go. Watch a lot of videos so you can get an idea. The roof is probably one of the easiest panels. The antenna is definitely tricky. I've only learned by trial and error.
100% mate! Roof wraps are by far one of the easiest sections to tackle. I would recommend you spend a little more money on the vinyl & not go the cheapest option available to you though. Better quality vinyl is more forgiving to mistakes - and usually offers a nicer finish. My only other recommendation is that if you do vinyl a part of the car that faces direct sunlight (roof/bonnet/boot. You should replace the vinyl every 12-16 months or it will become a real nightmare to remove & in the hotter climates, vinyl that sits for years can have it’s glue damage the paint work.
As much as I like black roofs (I have one on my Lotus), black roofs (all black cars for that matter) in the southern climates are a real problem with some cars, especially European cars that don't have good enough air conditioning to handle the additional heat load generated by a black roof. That's why, I think, there are so many white and silver cars here in Florida. Thanks for the informative video.
So what I did was remove the fin all together. Made an insert for the hole so it was flush with roof. Took the antenna part out of the fin and put it in the upper pillar. Roof is clean with no fin.
I know next to nothing about wrapping, but I have seen shops spray some sort of liquid on panels before laying the wrap to help get bubbles out. Would this help at all or am I understanding it wrong?
I am definitely not qualified to give you the right answer on that. I've seen liquids used to install tint, ppf, and decals, but I'm not sure if I've seen them used for full color change wraps. I could be wrong. The vinyl I used has air release technology designed to help release any trapped air inside.
It might make more sense if you do it in the first gen, this gen has an aluminum roof so you’d be paying $$$ to mostly look good and save comparatively less weight than before
@@KevinVo Yeah I don't blame you...I'm hoping that a future edition of the GR86 will come with a forged carbon roof like the GR Corolla Cup Edition, but I'll just fake it for now.
+35 is a very aggressive fitment in the rear and would require you to trim and cut the tab to prevent rubbing. You'd also need to run a decent amount of camber.
@@KevinVo wraps just don't wear well like something with clear coat. I've had them before. Sun beats them up, as well as tiny dust and sand in air. Good for a quick mock up for a couple months to see how you like the color.
@@Soravia wrap technology has come a long way. I've had had the wrap on my track car for awhile and it's held up just fine to the abuse. A carbon roof would be super expensive and you'd need to cut your roof off. I'm not doing that lol

wrap the hood black too! and with some new wheels it would be the icing on the cake

What brand wrap?
Diffently need lowering springs or new coilovers

what are those magnets called you use to hold the wrap down?
