    I wrapped the roof of my 2017 Mustang earlier this week and this video really helped me a lot. You aren't lying about Avery.... I originally tried to wrap it with 3M 1080 and it had all the crappy issues you described in your video where you did the yellow on the hood of the Ferrari... second time around I used Avery 900 gloss black, not a single bubble nor wrinkle. Thanks for putting all the effort into these videos, they're really helpful!

      is it gonna be doable by myself? I wanna wrap my roof and the side pillars and the side mirrors of my camry. and the only professional place in our area for this is asking 500 dollars for this. so stupid.

    • @Roadsurfer2k11
      @Roadsurfer2k11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lsedanolg its all patience and learning... I got a stretch mark, few glue lines and actually burned a hole first time doing a hood. Spent 10 hours getting the first mirror done with its angles. Rear trim piece i did 3 times to get it right since it wanted to bubble up around center emblem area (high tension zone). After that things started getting easier learning how to make relief cuts where needed and learning the angles. Its not something you really get first time. Ive only worked with vvivid, so the easier film used starting out is best.
      Learned from my mistakes.. we were pulling too much out doing the hood. Need to just lay it flat and let things fold over edges

    I would also advise you guys to spray just some water on the top of film once it is laid so that when you squeegee the vinyl, you know where you have done it and where you have not and it also prevents to scratch any gloss black or satin black film. I have particularly noticed these mistakes in high end shops as well
    I have had 99% success doing this so would request you to try this method out

    One thing I have noticed is that all the beginners are doing when they finish cutting a piece of vinyl is they rush with the cut at the end, like at least twice as fast as they were cutting it before reaching the end. Instead, look at CK, at the end he finish his cutting keeping the same speed.
    The reason for that is that the chances of your blade to jump and cutting on the paint are very, very high. I know this from self experience and I have seen others doing the same thing 😄
    So take your time and don't rush, because you can ruin your nice job,right at the end of it.

    I’ve been doing vinyl graphics and wraps for almost 20 years and you’re literally the first (and only) person I’ve heard say they prefer Vvivid over 3M. Not saying Vvivid is horrible, but preferred over 3M? You definitely know what you’re doing and the roof looks good, but I’m also surprised to hear you recommend Avery for first timers considering how easy it is to overstretch, not to mention how careful you have to be when using heat. With 2080, or even 1080, you can literally remove the backing, crumple it into a ball, and with a little heat bring it back to perfect. I will admit 3M’s Carbon Series, especially in matte, can get extremely brittle when handled in cooler temps.
    Vvivid definitely costs less than 2080, even their Premium line is priced very well. Personally I think Vvivid is great for piece work, such as rockers and lips. Avery is ok for wraps but is the best choice for plotted work, such as signs. 3M 2080 is my favorite for complete vehicle wraps by far.
    Your channel and content is great! 👍

    Le quiero dar las gracias a Ck, vi varios de sus videos pude colocar el vinilo en el echo de mi coche, al 2do intento quedo bastante aceptable pero.....
    Parece muy fácil pero no lo es.., a ellos si, son profesionales, incluso el chico que forra ese techo. pero no crean que a Uds. les va a salir igual... una idea es usar agua jabonosa, como cuando se instalan las laminas para oscurecer los cristales. una cosa que yo hice fue dividir la lamina en dos mitades y así fue menos traumática la experiencia. Lo otro que es un mito es que Uds. van a poder usar el cutter como ellos, tiene practica que les da la facilidad de cortes rectos y parejos . Otro concejo, cuando Uds. se dispongan a probar por 1ra y/o 2da vez, contar con el doble del material (vinilo) del que se necesita, probablemente tendrán que hacerlo dos veces.
    Una cosa si es cierta, el uso de la pistola de calor es fundamental para quitar las arrugas que se les van hacer en el vinilo además para vencer la memoria del material pegarlo a superficies difíciles, ángulos, curvas, convexidades, concavidades y un largo etc.
    Para terminar me hubiese gustado que explicara como quito la antena alea de tiburón así hacerme mas fácil la vida

    I tried wrapping my roof last week with vvivid and it was not nearly this manageable. It was super sticky and thick and was impossible to get on without a million bubbles, and I’m not new to wrapping. Ended up throwing out the whole roll, hoping I can get Avery and do it with that.

    • @Roadsurfer2k11
      @Roadsurfer2k11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think what I'm going to do is pull back half the backing and do center to front and then center to rear. That way I'm only dealing with positioning half the film making it manageable. Then peel back and squeegee down as i move long, basically how I just did full car length stripes. Very easy.
      Trick is though to fold the backing in to make a crease fold where u cut it, so no cut fibers tear pieces into the film glue. If I was using this avery I'd just do it this way, but again I'm using vvivid cf xpo. I know exactly what u mean regards to its thickness, wrinkles and bubbles as I did a hood with it

      I did mine in the sun like an idiot but it kinda helped all I had to do was lift it if there was a bubble and then the sun would be the heat gun.

      Also put the tension in the middle dont put tension where the edges are or it may peel

      Yup to add what Dallas said, let the film drape over edges without pulling. Especially important with 3m from a video of their tech doing a trunk, as pulling can make glue lines too.
      Always post heat at end really good. I use 500-800. The key thing is from the one car I've done so far is you won't have pull back if you're able to tuck the film under something ie: quarter inch under hood, then trim a bit. Which is important taking the car parts off like headlights.

    First off thanks for your videos! Ive done some small wrap projects and Im about to tackle a roof for the first time. Im looking at my car and both the front and back windows of the 3series BMW have no rubber in-between the glass and paint. There is a somewhat large gap so I'm wondering if you have any pointers on how to finish the front and back without exposing any paint. Thanks!

    It’s helps to have an 8’ wingspan like this guy. Using Vivvid is impossible. It sticks too quick and wrinkles like crazy. We gave up and took it off.

    This will be my first time wrapping a car. How should I buy the wrap/vinyl? I'm not sure how much I will actually need

      Minimum 75 feet roll for a whole car which will run you like $600 or more.
      For hoods and roofs I usually get 10 foot or 12 for extra and should only cost about $70. I bought online through Amazon because I had gift card, which gets it from the manufacturer. If your ordering big like 50 foot rolls, u can get a discount from ck, I think 20% off

    I'm thinking about wrapping my Audi S5 roof but it has a glass roof in the middle. Is it better to lay wrap over the entire roof and then cut it for the glass, or just wrap the section in front of the glass and then wrap the section behind the glass?

    Amazing work! I have a question. Why you did not used heat? I was thinking you heat it at the end to better sticking. Is it bad idea?

      @@DJRichKidd1 also post heat very good before you take it out to sun. The heat gun will bring out the bubbles first or any potential stretch backs, like around door handles (which i discovered). I didn't take them off to fold wrap inside unlike I did the gas tank cover and all lights

    Please can you tell me how to tackle the roof of the latest edition Toyota RAV4 (2019 onwards).
    The rear of the roof has some raised (moulded) areas, meaning it’s not an entirely flat surface.
    I’m unsure if you need to start with the raised areas and work outwards, or the other way round?
    Thanks!
