  • Hello everyone. I just got the first unit of the new Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin in the Czech Republic for about one-year long term review. I am happy to share with you my thoughts and also I may be comparing this a lot with my Yamaha Ténéré 700 (Here's my playlist of long-term reviews: bit.ly/Tenere70...)
    Oh, let me know in comments if you have any questions about this motorcycle. I will answer them either in some of my future videos or I will do separate Q&A video.
    So if you want to stay updated, subscribe to my channel and I'll see you next time: bit.ly/subscrib...

    Well done and thank you for testing in such miserable conditions. I currently have the 2016 AT with 62,000 miles on the clock and will be seriously considering upgrading to the newest 2020 model. Stay safe. ✌️👍

      @@TS50ER the bike has only had basic service carried out in all this time. With the addition of new wheel bearings, stainless spoked wheel replacement, kill switch assy replacement. Otherwise just general servicing. I've only had the valve clearances checked once. It was negligible.

      Don’t read to much go to a dealer a make ride then you know or it is your bike yes or no. The AT , T7 or 790 are all different bikes it depends what you are going to do with it. The only thing I can say the 2020 ATAS is more heavy the my old 2016AT but when you drive on it it feels lighter and more accurate. My opinion go for a test ride with the bike you have in your mind and do not read all stupid comments. So many people so many thoughts and feelings. One think we all want RIDING with a lot fun and freedom.

    Like many others I would like a comparison between the Africa Twin and the Tenere you have at disposal now. Simple, light, nimble and cheep versus heavier, electronically more advanced, more comfortable and of course more expensive.
    I am torn between the different styles these two bikes represent. I thought the Tenere would be my ideal bike, but am getting a bit concerned with what has been mentioned regarding the suspension and ride comfort ... especially the saddle even after upgrade. I live in Southeast Asia so I dont want a bike as nimble as a small car (GS) but also really need the bike to be comfortable on longer stretches as well. Here in Cambodia it seems even paved roads require an adventure bike :-) and you are never far from gravel roads. But like any other adventure bike ... it will spend most of its days on tarmac.

    One should never handle more than what they can lift, and I found out the other day that 250 kg is way more than I want a motorcycle to weigh, which means that my 1100 motorcycle is gonna go.
    I only need enough power to keep up with trafic in Europe, and I want the economy as well, like how 100 liter of petrol can take me 4000 km.
    If I can ride for longer, I don't mind having less power.

    Don't understand the need to connect with apple or android on a motorbike....that's just an unnecessary distraction. Seems more like a phone screen than a dedicated bike screen...I don't like that aspect of the new AT as I loathe all touch screens on bikes. Bike looks fab though, much prefer it to the old one and the screen looks like it'll give a less turbulent ride. Quite a price hike over the old one so not sure if they've got this right as it isn't highly spec'd as standard compared with the competition (add the options on like quick shifter and heated grips plus luggage and it's up into GS/KTM territory). Arguably, it doesn't seem to really know what it is meant to be. It's not set up as a dedicated tourer and doesn't have the weather protection, luggage or ideal power for that. Like the competition it's not really a pure off road bike, more a trail bike. It's too heavy and underpowered to be an all round fun bike...that accolade is more in KTM 790 territory, or even the Tiger 800's. I'd personally have liked to seen more weather protection as it will undoubtedly spend more of its time on road than off. The old one had its spot and was great at the price. Not so sure I'd be willing to spend the extra for this one

      Because it's nice on long freeway rides to listen to music and take phone calls. Touch screens are not used on bikes. They use handlebar buttons or controllers to access the functions. I agree with rest about the bike missing the mark.

    I was sitting on the new Afrika on EICMA. I dont like how the tank in so wide and the standard version front screen is way to short for touring. I still like the comfort for street more on my 2019 Vstrom 1000 XT. I like the sitting position on a KTM 1290 Adventure and the bike is not so wide and I will probably upgrade to the new KTM model when in comes in 2021. New VStrom 1050 I dont like because it is so heavy the XT with 247 kg.

      Did you sit on the V-strom as well? If so, how was it's ergonomics?

      @@larsnorling9539 i like the egonomisc better on the Vstrom, it is a bit more narrow in the tank area, and more road oriented. Standard Africa with lower screen is 50% of road bike.

      247 kg include central stand, engine guards, higher adjustable windscreen. The old V-Strom XT (233 kg) did not include all these devices. At the end the weight of the old one and the new one is more or less the same. So you do not like the weight on your bike...

      @skyworks1621 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@o.p.360 Sure I like lighter Adventure bike but Suzuki could do more with the frame (it is the same) and other parts. Center stand and engine guards cant have more than 5 kg. Having 14 kg more and more or less same power is for me a non upgrade moment.

    • @o.p.360
      @o.p.360 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Engine guards are 6 kg. Central stand 4.5 kg. As you might see Africa Twin is 226 kg. Including rack, central stand and engine guards we get around 240 kg.

    If you’re 5’8 is this bike a realistic proposition or should you look elsewhere?

    • @friedensgabel
      @friedensgabel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're a somewhat experienced driver, not unrealistic imo. The new 1100 should be even better than the current model as the new seat is narrower.

      There is also an available "low" seat bringing the height down to 825mm. I'm really short at 5'4" but am not afraid to drop a bike so...

    • @midlifecrisis3374

      I did try the 2019 version, standard seat in lower position and could just almost flat foot with both feet and I am 5'8 or 173cm. With the new model having a narrower seat, I think I will be able to flat foot both feet. Very glad I waited for the Euro 5 compliant, since I hope they have fixed the issues with the chopsticks, especially since this and every other bike cost twice and even tripple in Norway vs Europe/USA. Not worried about the height, that is what Outback Motortek crashbars are for :) I worry about the 5000 euro cost for Öhlins chopsticks and shock if they still use the old worthless chopsticks that was worn out after 5000km offroad riding.

    When you give Honda feedback, tell them to get rid of the ride modes, traction control, blootooth and all the other electronic nonsense that does not belong on a motorcycle.
