Definitely prefer this over the GS. A bit bummed they didn't include Android Auto rather than Apple car play given how much of the world uses Android vs Apple.
Honda over the years has always been the only manufacturer that I will buy in the 1st year of production of a new model. I plan on buying an Africa Twin AS after paying off my touring bike. After riding this bike 2 weeks ago with the standard gearbox I’m sold. Love the RW&B color scheme. As well as it runs bone stock I imagine that an aftermarket reflash will unleash all the power that the econazis have restrained within. Bravo Honda.🤟
I liked your video, but for the next time you should prepare yourself better! (what is improvement compare to old one/ seat height/ Nm/ bhp/ heated grips/ adjustable screen/ luggage... etc. - no voice regarding that)
Did I heard all right that you are 6'4'' tall? I am too and I am wondering about the seating position. I could see from the video that your knees are quite bent, which is something that I don't like. If you compare it to Honda's own VFR1200X Crosstourer, I think that bike has much better seating position for a tall rider, and even though it's an older bike, is more powerful and has a drive shaft instead of a chain, and it's about the same price. Have you ridden the Crosstourer and what do you think about the seating on these two bikes? Thanks.
Hey guys I just have one very important question for you. I'm interested to buy new Africa twin adventure sport 2020 but my problem is that I can't decide if I want DCT or manual. My plans are that I want to travel with my girlfriend abroad. Mostly I would like to drive on road, off road just sometimes. Thanks a lot.
Patrik Salka I have the NC 750 DCT version. Be warned you might never want to ride a manual motorcycle again... Just makes life so much easier. You can really focus on your trip and traffic around you instead of worrying about being in the right gear. And the gear shifts are nice and smooth, which I’m sure your girlfriend will appreciate.
@@wrczane Hey man thank you so much for your advice. I was thinking about it and honestly I prefer DCT. So thank you again and yes, I believe you that mi girlfriend will like it more than manual. 🙂
Hi! We seen a small digital speedo and also a quite big tft screen with a speedo. Ok. So far so good, but when will i really need a full screen in the tft dash? Only when using a navigation. But how? Using car play would be stupid as stupid as putting a Navigation system additionaly above the tft.
It is realy hard to understand your English for a person like me who isnt born in England, you are cutting your words a Lot. It's a shame cause i realy would like to hear your thoughts on this new CRF1100.
Obviously not an AT guy...so hearing your opinions don’t help me much. Cruise control work well? How about those tubeless tires? Spring weights raised or same from previous version?
So my local bmw dealer is selling a 2017 R1200GSA FOR $16,999 with 42,762k miles on it - no boxes included either. ATAS does all the same shit basically and looks sweet. Same price more or less.
How do you think the new electronics will affect or reflect on Hondas’ reliability? Do you have any history or knowledge of DCT repairs or problems on the Honda gold wings?
One more push Honda. Just one more and the ATAS will be a GS! In any case 4 K above what I paid for my excellent ATAS 30th Anniversary model. I will not exchange it for this version as I can't see how much better it would be with all the extra stuff on it. More costly repairs, these big electronic boxes that cannot be fixed but must be changed when they go funny. ATAS 2018 is the one!
I wish the HRC colour scheme was optional. I like this version of the new AT best for my purposes, but I like the black and red colour schemes better. What a shame.
Imagine riding this bike with all its electronic gadgets near a place where suddenly an EMP bomb goes off! This bike is gonna be completely dead and unridable, where as my fully 100% analog and mechanical (1995) Kawasaki Ninja will still keep on riding after that EMP detonation. (I problably would have to stop and turn my engine off and on again and recharge my battery though.) haha as fancy as these electronic gadgets are, I will ALWAYS choose mechanical and analog over digital. ^^ Nice video though, I like the bike's esthetics, but I HATE it doesn't offer the possibilty to keep shifting gears mechanically. Those unreliable quick-shifters break easily. just a single electronic malfunction and ur dead in the water with this bike. lmao
@@geo2472 Not yet anyway. Carrington events happen naturally as well. When war-gaming an invasion of modern day USA, I always include an EMP or two. An invasion of The USA without one would be suicide. DRZ for the win! Spare CDI boxes are cheap and keep them in a faraday cage for a "rainy" day.
Scoff as you Moto-Luddites will. But what makes the titanic BMW GS1200/Adventurer as nimble and light handling off-road(and on) is the Tele-lever(Saxxon Motad) front suspension. When you got 7 to 12" of suspension travel 'brake-dive' along with its chronic changes to wheelbase/geometry are considerable. Compare descending a steep, bumpy trail. Touch the front brakes and the GS remains level and composed with full suspension travel as it slows. The rest all massively compress their forks reducing and stiffening available suspension travel while effectively shortening the wheelbase thus affecting steering/stability. And then there is the hugely reduced 'bump-steer' suffered with the Tele-lever suspension.
I love my beemer RT, but would not want a paralever on my Africa. The GS has RT genes, the Africa has CRF genes. Honda CRFs have huge diameter forks to stand up to nose dives straight into berms. BMW has been sued for GS paralever fails. And a boxer engine in the woods? Be real man! And shaft drive?? If you have to have a beemer in the dirt, get an XR. Go to a Honda showroom and look around - dirt bikes everywhere. Honda knows off road, BMW knows the street.
mld CRFs are delivered with zero preload and little damping in either direction for easy mounting and test rides on the street or parking lot. I dont know how KTMs are delivered. ADV bikes be adjusted for your weight and the terrain expected. You may never see an adventure bike rider leave the freeway and head off into the rough after retuning suspension, but it should be done. Many (most) riders find fault with the default rather than tuning for each ride. If no adjustment works then yes, it may be the design.
These vids can be put off a few hours to organize and clean up the presentation. Maybe an outline of facts/figures and order of topics covered could help.
Chris Rolofson you get no time between getting off the bike and doing the video - max 10 mins. I’d love to see some of the folk in this thread try - it is fucking hard.
Some good shots of the bike.... The talking (and sniffing) head recited standard motorcycle review type words. Hope someone that knows the old bike well does a review soon.
Yup, that was a pretty awful review. When talking about why the AS costs 4K more than the standard you mention stronger handguards but forget upgraded wheels & tubeless tires? Too many other mistakes too, not sure where to start really. Visordown you can do better than this🤨
It's funny how people bitch about motorcycle brands this better than that fanboys all over... I freaking love all my motorcycles from China/Italy fantic through KTMs and trusty BMW f800, honda particularly classic ones. All motorcycles are great as long as they put smile on your face. Unfortunately new motorbikes are simply too expensive that's one common thing about them. Yes you will smile on new Africa twin on your way to re mortgage your house 😢
Not wanting to sound negative, but I already found something I DON'T like about the bike. I hate that the rider is forced to use a quick-shifter ONLY and there is no analog backup! Call me old fashion but I would want (demand) that there remains a clutch lever on the bike at all times and the bike also allows the possibility for the rider to shift gears mechanically (analog) with the traditional clutch lever and foot-shift peg if the rider so chooses . This in case you experience a electronical problem and all of a sudden you can't shift gears anymore because of it. Thats messed up is what it is. Why can't motorcycle engineers/designers give us new bikes like this that intergrates the new tech with the traditional and proven old so the bikes remain reliable?
Great review. Nice format. Thanks.
Definitely prefer this over the GS. A bit bummed they didn't include Android Auto rather than Apple car play given how much of the world uses Android vs Apple.

Good commentary and ride footage - nicely done!
Loved the review, real shame everyone seems to review the dct tho. I'm looking at the manual with quick shifter.
Very good review covering what I needed to know 👍

Forgot to mention cruise control. But I got you.
has the stalling been sorted out ??
No reliability in European makes -- it's true and you know it
have you heard anything about paint flaking on the tank and causing fueling issues due to blockage of fuel.

I wish the adventure sport came in black.
It does, there is a color called Darkness black metallic. I'm buying one of those.
I think it’s a gloss black so not the cool matt black of the standard one
