3k too expensive? With Honda's known reliability, low cost maintenance and a peace of mind that in the next ten years my motorcycle will start every morning -that's a small price too pay.
Honda and electrics,so bad, you'd think they're Italian? Mate's son just fried his Honda loom and clocks,360miles from new,so it just like any aged Honda...by a Suzuki if planning longterm ownership!

Especially the black version
Excellent review, lot of work went your video and it shows. Great points you make and reasons why I sold my AT and now ride a GS. Still love the AT though.
As a very experienced (IE: old) rider I’d love a fully farkled “Africa Twin” that’s biased for street and off pavement. I don’t really want a heavy bike for single track riding, do want the ergos of an adventure bike. And, even after I tried and disliked my initial trials with the DCT, I’ve been convinced that it’s starting to deliver on its potential. Well done Honda! Now, it’s back to the darknet to sell that kidney; hope they don’t find out “gently used” really means it’s almost 70 years old.
Having just spend a few days at the Honda Off road Adventure centre in Somerset on an Africa Twin CRF1100 i can confirm it is certainly capable of off road adventure riding and even for an absolute beginner like myself and certainly inspires confidence in your and it's capabilities. I agree the USB port is poorly located and having looked at but not used the cruise control I would likely agree about poor placement. I instantly felt at home sitting what felt in the bike rather than perched on the bike which helped inspire confidence in having full control in a new (off-road) environment. Having covered 100 miles off road approx and having only one tumble at the start I left the journey feeling that the bike is perfect for what it is designed for and getting back onto my "now heavy feeling" GS1200 to make the 700 mile journey home has left me wondering if I "need" to change my current choice of bike. Great and concise review MOTOBOB. well done.
@@TC-iz6xe not at this time, I still have the GSA and have been using that off road…it’s good at doing what it does but it’s much heavier so when you lose your balance you struggle to keep it upright. Still great fun though….a few clutch levers later 😂
I have a 2019 AT and love it, despite its shortcomings. One issue that would stop me upgrading is the poor quality of some components and constant battle against corrosion of some parts. I struggle to see how the the engineers that produce that lovely engine, allow the bean counters to finish it with poor quality fittings. The fancy screen and Apple Play is not important for me as I concentrate 100% on where I'm going. I agree about price/spec and before I bought another, I might be considering a shaft drive bike. Honda will have to be as commercial as the market dictates. You started to sound like a salesman but did get the balance right at the conclusion IMHO. Thank you>
I would say the Honda delivers in areas outside of the spec sheet, like how it handles, weight centralization, reliability, wide dealer networks, being the only bike manufacturer to offer DCT.
I rode one of these for a couple of hours and really liked it, great handling, sound and motor. If you want a DCT then the only choice is Honda and I love DCT. The display is better than the Tiger, but you are right that the base bike is too expensive. I haven't tried the Tiger 900 yet but it sounds like a really nice bike from the reviews I have seen.
Dude......Honest Review and quite practical....negatives of a product matter a lot than all the positives that are already mentioned in the brochure. A short and a to the point review. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
In Italy the base model can be had for €13600 with a genuine top box and high screen. The rally pro is still around €15500 with a discount included. Honda's always come with a 4 year guarantee Vs standard 2 years of triumph, BMW, KTM. I'd go AT 1100.
If you consider DCT than there is no compitition, also people say that if you are new rider DCT works very well for you and bikes does not stall in off road which is a major issue while off roading. Secondly in India Honda tops the realibility factor. Also it's maintenance is very cheap compared to other brands which will cover up higher cost you pay initially over a period of time. Parts availability and service is major issue for Triumph according to oweners here.
Better you go for the Adventure Sports. Comes with heated grips und proper handguards. With electronic suspension it is nearly as complete as a GS, the power -on the other hand the bike is 20 kg lighter. The bike is much easier to handle - specially on gravel- than the Tiger 800 i owned before. And Apple Carplay is a nice feature that works reliable. On my Triumph scrambler 1200 they didn’t get the MyThriumph App started for a whole season.... Quick shifter? The Tiger 800 and the AT gearboxes are perfekt, they don‘t need pulling the clutch when you are in motion for shifting gears
Africa Twin is actually one of my all time favourite bikes, especially in the blue, red and white colour scheme. Also a fan of a Honda reliability (current Honda owner) but the Triumph gets my vote this time for cost vs spec.
spot on. i test rode the Africa twin and tiger 900 and back to back and came to the same conclusion. needless to say. a tiger 900 rally pro sits in my garage now. :)
Good choice when you don't need the off-road capabilities of the CFR1100. Between the both of them I prefer the looks of the new Tiger (subjective I know).
have a seat please how'd you figure? Id prefer the engine on the tiger. And tiger has imo way better suspension and brakes. Also, lifting it a couple times? Id rather do that with the tiger.
I'd probably go for the Triumph Rally Pro since it's better set up for off road exploration, which is what you buy an Adventure bike for. Used my 1982 Triumph Tiger Trail 750 for that - it was a hoot.
Great review. My take on the AT is similar; I didnt think it was as nice as the Ducati Multi 1200 or 1260, and for the price you could get a 1-2 year old Triumph Tiger or a slightly older R1200GS. Honestly, I'd like to check out that Honda VFR 1200X, and once this pandemic is over I'd like to check out that Guzzi V85TT; I think that Guzzi may fit right in the price/power range I'd want for an ADV bike. Anyway, glad to see new content from you MB! Hope all is well! Sending MAD love to all of our friends across the pond! Be safe, friends!
Trouble is its being judged as a £13k bike. I have just bought the base model and paid £10k brand new for cash. Thats at least 3k (maybe more like £5k) less than a GS and probably £2.5k less than the Triumph 900 rally. Buy the Africa Twin and an old Aprilia RSV for track day kicks for the price of the competition.
Different pricing for UK it seems ... in Australia they are around A$4400 cheaper than Tiger 900 Pro, so sell for under GBP11,000 compared to the Tiger's GBP13,400 !
Simple. Country of origin is why you get more from Triumph. It costs a lot more to manufacture in Japan than Thailand. Not saying Thailand Triumphs aren’t as good, I’m just saying they’re cheaper to assemble than a Honda in Japan. I’m always amazed this point is skipped when people review price/spec.
Great review! Money talks when it comes to these bikes. While I currently ride a Honda, I wouldn't buy one again if it meant I was overpaying by several thousand for the next one.
Excellent review, thank you.If it were shaft drive,I’d consider it, but would probably opt for the Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 ES, or the big Triumph 1200.
Where a lot of bikes are falling short now a days, PRICE! People cant justify paying nearly as much for a bike as they would a car. I guarantee there is a huge drop off on sales of all bikes once they get over $10-12k.

I'd have loved to have done more but with those tyres and the weather we were having, it'd have been on the floor and I'd have some explaining to do when I took it back to Honda!
Read the comments below, sanko San is a Honda agent! Beware of salesman antics!
Tenere 700 lighter and more nimble thanks
I don't think this bike was intended to compete with the triumph. I think that's the next AT mid-size. LoL at the medical equipment.
"Eggs aust"
It’s egg sauce actually
These things are 250kg and top heavy.
This is what worries me and a small side stand , no centre stand either - all seems a bit of a con to me....
No-one EVER buys a base level GS!!!
Motor sounds quite bad on paper even compared to R1200GS' 125hp / 125 nm version.
I like the bike but the motor looks like a downgrade.
Not at all,the engine is very good, love the sound also
Very nice review - honest opinion - no marketing mumbojumbo // like+sub
