    The biggest advantage of this bike over BMW, KTM, Triumph, Ducati etc., is that it's a Honda - it will not be seen on the back of recovery truck. It's quality and an absolute trustworthiness. And it sounds gorgeous with standard exhaust. And it goes like clappers. And I love this bike😍

    • @ampm9771
      @ampm9771 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, those bikes are so bad that people choose them over Hondas. Only seen an africa twin once where i live, but i see all of those worthless bikes every day. Have you sat on an africa twin? it's like an elephant and you must be at least 190 and power lifter to control the chunk. No soul, no character and the sound is just exhaust.

    • @ampm9771
      @ampm9771 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW
      I'd pick 700 Tenere over this sny day of the year and that's half the price!

      @@ampm9771 I'm 197 cm, rode the new Africa and loved it. If anything, I wouldn't mind if she was a little taller. Sublime suspension, perfect handling, great brakes and gorgeous, grunty engine. Sounds absolutely fantastic even on standard exhaust. I appreciate your comment on Tenere 700, but they're not in the same league. If you say Tenere 1200 - oh yea, bring it on. But 700 - meh...

      @@wojciechkosiorowski5008 Same here and it didn't have the ES Electronic suspension. So my choice is CRF 1100 Adventure Sport Manual Plus (Panniers, spot lights, centre stand etc) My mother lives in France so a 500 mile trip each way - Ideal for that.

    I agree with you: Honda has made a very good job! What i also like very much, is the soothing sound.
    The motor never sounds overwhelmed. Thank you for this video and i wish you a happy 2020.

    • @PragmaticTornado

      It's never going to be overwhelemed when it's producing about 20-25 hp less than it should have. I have a 2018 Africa Twin Adventure Sports, and I love so many things about it - but the engine should have been more powerful.
      If this new model had a proper output like 120-130 hp, I would have traded mine in, in a heartbeat. As it stands, I'm probably getting a KTM 1290 Super Adventure instead. Having a passenger on an AT is almost torture, because it's so damn slow. It's much better solo, but I still miss more power on the tarmac.

  • @stevebolton8471

    I rode the base 2020 AT three weeks ago and it was spectacularly good. Really torquey engine and great handling. Everything else on the road moved like it was stuck in treacle. I would like to try the DCT and I would prefer a road variant but I can’t afford it. Maybe the rumoured mid-range model for next year will be a bit more affordable and a tad lighter. If I had the money I would grab a this bike in DCT, no question! Thanks for the considered review. Nice work, well scripted and shot with an easy pace. Subbed!

    How is the wind protection at modest super-slab speeds of 70 mph/110 kph? How does it compare to the GS/GSA? I don't know about others around the world, but in the US to get anywhere many hours is spent on boring roads just trying to get to the preferred roads (scenery, etc.). Great video btw, super quality, and beautiful surroundings, including the architecture.

    I have the VFR800X Crossrunner right now, last "touring" trail on Honda's catalogue. Too bad they focus on the Africa Twin only... Where is the Tiger 900 GT/Tracer900GT/F900XR alternative at Honda? They'll lose a loyal customer... And i'm not alone.

    • @aeon8721
      @aeon8721 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lost me -I upgraded from a Honda LAMS/A2 bike to a KTM 790 Adv. I was looking for a middleweight bike with modern electronic rider aids and vacillating between a sport tourer or an ADV. But Honda don't have a convincing option in either category. The VFR800F and NC750X were nice enough bikes when they came out, but just don't cut it now. If they'd brought out a more up-to-date mid-sized VFR or a Trans Alp for 2020 I'd have been begging them to take my money for either one.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, agreed, Honda needs two version of the Africa Twin, a 1200 and 900! 900 being the off-road focus and the 1200 being the touring version, now that'd be perfect.

      According to recent news they are going to make a mid range AT for next year using a bigger NC engine. A lot of people think that will be too slow though. If Honda can give the engine more power and preserve some of the economy of the NC then they could have a winner. Especially with a better chassis, suspension and brakes than the NC.

    Hi great review ,but no talk of DCT .
    I have the new Goldwing and have been waiting for a smaller lighter touring bike as good as Goldwing for technology, ride and DCT so bought this last week, the DCT ES with plus pack . ( not got pack yet as a problem with the welds apparently, all gone back to chad for remake) It’s fantastic and would genuinely never bother with a manual clutch again on any bike .
    Honda really have smashed it again and are definitely making the other big boys look dated .
    I tested the new GS 1250 and hated the ride and lack of finesse. I have had bmw in past and think they really need to up there game to get anywhere near Honda at the moment .
    One other thing the plus pack puts the cost at £20535 so there’s not any savings on fully loaded GS ! But far better bike by a country mile love it .
    Thanks again. Jonathan

      Hi, yea, I'm from the States and live in Germany now. One thing to consider about the Super Tenere, is that it's really not for off-road. If you are going to do light trail for example that is fine but anything more than that I would not want to do it on the Yamaha ST. This bike would be better for doing both on and off-road.

      Not Canadian but close, I'm from Michigan, I grew up knowing a few Canadian's and doing some fishing/canoe trips up there in Ontario and one of my best hunting buds was from Manitoba, he now lives permanently in Michigan (he married a Michigan girl that I introduced him too) but still today (30 years later) he has a very heavy Canadian accent...he's funny. That's probably what you hear in my accent but now it's evolving even more talking with all the Germans here in Germany for the last few years. Sometimes in my videos I'll say the German word instead of the English word...if you pay attention :)

      Commuting and touring is what this version was built for...and yes it is very good at it...just like the 1250 & 1290. It just comes down to a matter of what your heart wants. Twisties, this is probably a little bit slower than the 1250/1290SAS because of the 21" front on the Honda. But with that said they are close but I feel like I could do corners faster on the other two vs. this.

    All of these bikes today are fantastic. BUT, if you're like me and decide you don't want to deal with a chain drive bike, that narrows your choices considerably. So what's out there? The GS, the Guzzi, the Triumph, Harley (belt) on their bag bikes, and a few other Japanese standards, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, but these are not ADV bikes. I'm going to ride the Guzzi this week, but probably I'm landing with the GS. To me, it's still the bike of bikes. I'm not jazzed about spending 20k on it, but that's just always going to be the case when you're looking at "BMW".

    You mentioned good job Honda for this effort. I'm not sure how to interpret that. Does that mean the bike is on par with a GSA, better than, or still has some way to go?
    I see less suspension travel between this version and last years. Any comments on how this bike compares to prior Adventure Sports, major leap forward, or subtle improvements?
    I noticed you touching the TFT screen and it not being responsive, is this an issue? It appeared to be acting sticky.
    Regarding the TFT, if you put up a nav app, then you have the small screen below, does that small screen display fuel range?
    Regarding the TFT - are you able to run apps from your android phone? Music from the phone?
    Have you tried the DCT version? Any comments on the difference, preference between the two, preference?
    Regarding the hand guards, are they fully plastic or is there some kind of aluminum support frame? Back to the TFT, I understand it cannot be operated when in motion, but while in motion can it be controlled via the switches on the left handle bar?
    Finally, where was this shot? Great scenery.
    - Thanks.

      This model (2020 adventure sport) is marketed for mainly touring with some offroad. If you want the more off road model go with the standard AT. The previous year model adventure sport is slightly more off road worthy, has a better suspension than the standard.
      But if you want my two cents, buy used and put an ohlins front forks and rear shock, upgrade the fueling and exhaust and go conquer the world.

    One thing I don’t like is bikes seem to keep gaining wait. Is the “adventure sport” worth the extra (I think)14kg in weight over the standard? Especially with most of that being 6LT’s of extra gas up high. I never considered the “adventure sport” over the standard before now; only for the adjustable windscreen and tubeless wheels. Also, is the dct worth while, or stick to manual?
    Ideally I’m hoping they announce the cfr850l as true before I get the money saved on this (only a rumor here in Japan, but a strong rumor), but for now, “adv sport” or standard?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, depends on what you are doing to do, off-road or all on-road? Some off-road then the standard. But if you are going to do mostly road, then the Adv. Sports.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well,
      First: on paper - the 1200 is lighter and has more torque down low and at peak.
      Second: feel while riding - the weight of the 1200 felt higher and therefore felt almost as heavy as the 1100, but the torque on the 1200 was noticeably more than the 1100.
      Third: off-road - 1100 wins there, no question for me. Not many ADV bikes are as good as the 1100 off-road...so comparing the 1200 to it is really unfair for the 1200. Off-road for the Triumph is really an after-thought and the 1100 it's the focus and it shows.
      Forth: on-road - the suspensions are pretty close to being equal, both have a high turn in but are stabil in corners, so suspensions I can't really complain about either one given what they are made to do.

      It's rare when a quickshifter comes standard on any bike. Usually it comes with some package or grouped with an option.
