Issues with mine: 1-Water pump 3x (very common) 2-PVC Valve 3-Intake Manifold 4-Injectors 5-Ignition coils (very common) 6-Engine mounts all of them due aggressive driving :) 7-Front Lower arm bushings 8-ABS module (huge amount of money to fix) 9-Some water hoses and water outlets 10-Cam position sensor 11-Oil pressure sensor (my own fault, overfilled with engine oil) 9-Oxygen sensor 10-Hid Ballast 11-Sunroof leakage due to water drains clogged 12-Sunroof rail damaged (I decided to seal the sunroof for life and I love it) 13-Door actuator 14-Window mechanism 15-Speakers 16-Radio display faded 17-Central control module (bad luck I guess) 18- A/C compressor (2x already, expensive!!) 19-A/C condenser 20-Engine oil cooler (pain to replace) 21-Some seals/o-rings behind the oil filter housing (pain to replace) 22-Steering wheel clock spring 23-More to come...BUT I still love the car!!!
These cars like to be babied. I have a 2007 VW GTI with 203k on it. I'm the original owner and the car has lived in a garage at home and at work it's entire life. I don't have any of the issues mentioned in this video other than the headliner falling down and oil usage. I have the original cam follower with 203k miles on it. The car has not been modded at all other than a rear license plate frame 😁
Just reading that second to last sentence made my heart race lol! I would definitely check that cam follower before 300k lol. Glad to know there's another loved high mileage MKIV.
Get the aluminum water pp that vw doesn't have also update the timing chain tensioner if hasn't already been updated or has no record of being g upvvdated

@@tmangt1 I'm really sorry but the A/C on these cars go out every 5 to 6 years. But remember all cars have problems.
@@ulrichwillems6072 nah I appreciate the honest comment so thanks for real and yeah thats true
Not within your BMI range 😅😂 love that!
the mk5 is a good little car. still have mine since 2007. have a nicer car too, but can't seem to let this one go.
Well researched, covered all the common faults, very informative 👍👍
Thank you!

Bro the cam follower😳
Mk5 is better than the mk6 or mk7 in terms of issues
Most mk6’s and 7’s were built in Puebla Mexico, that is the sole reason
I payed £4250 for my black 3 door Dsg mk5 Gti and 6 years later its still worth £4000 ☺️💚✌🏼✅
Thinking of buying an mk5 VW Gti as my next show build, any tips what to look out for ?
Get the aluminum water pump that vw doesnt have also update the timing chain tensioner if has not or no records of being updated
Get the aluminum water pp that vw doesn't have also update the timing chain tensioner if hasn't already been updated or has no record of being g upvvdated
Get the aluminum water pp that vw doesn't have also update the timing chain tensioner if hasn't already been updated or has no record of being updated
In other words, for reliability get a mk6 gti
get a mk7, unless the mk6 has all of the known catastrophic issues revised
Mk6 was a turd. 1st and 2nd gen EA888 were rubbish. I'd own a TFSI any day over one of those.
1800 $ ?? How??
Through what VINWIKI would call, shrewd negotiation. [The seller needed money asap]

Great video!!! Lost of good information!

I miss my '05 xc90 t6.. that thing was AWESOME, until some stupid kid flew out his driveway at like 30mph and t-boned me..
Wrong!!! My cd player in mine is awesome, i play old school cds in my 2007, the hell with apple crap!
You have poor knowledge about the mk5 and you're quite annoying, to be honest.
Your engine isn't the revamped tsi.
It's the older fsi engine, genius.
Tsi, fsi, tdi, it gets confusing. Just replace the cam follower man, thanks for the heads up.
MK5s are Junk..
