    Had a friend/customer leave his heavily modified MK5 GTI at our shop while he went back to his home country, 10+ years later he finally came back and just gave me the car to deal with. So I gave it to a friend as a first car and we're in the process of rebuilding and replacing everything. Been fun so far! Loved watching this video!

    I enjoy watching this kind of videos where you and Paul reunite forces to get back on the road junk VW.
    I'm from Mexico City and I own a shop and sometimes I reuse all the hardware from the suspension, engine and transmission because my customers don't want to pay that extra money of getting new ones and don't want to wait the delivery time of the dealership.
    Also a dad's friend that is an engineer inside the VW Assembly Plant of Puebla, told me that all the hardware has really good quality and could handle like 3-4 reuses before breaking, I had done that in like 300 VW cars without any issues but obviously is recommended to follow the VW repair manual.
    Here in Mexico the hardware and a lot of parts is half of the cost that is US. But it takes 6 business days to arrive to my local dealership, so that's the reason a lot of my customers doesn't want to wait.
    Greetings from Mexico City

Clean and clear out the obvious and easy mess while tackling the mods surreptitiously over the course of a few weekends, and voila t😅he boy learns cars, maintenance and standards of care the will grow until he is older than I am now! Thanks for this terrific instruction video. You guys prove that cars are fun

    Hell yeah!! I’m 2 weeks into restoring my 06 GTI. I bought it with no transmission and engine 6 years ago. Was looking specifically for an early white 2-door with blue glass. I planned a lot of mechanical work for whatever I bought anyway, so I looked and got a steal on a complete shell. I drove it for about 15k miles, and parked it under a car cover for the last two years.
    Almost wrapped up with the suspension, ABS module and full brake refresh now. Then it’s onto getting the upholstery and some exterior parts replaced. It was just calling my name sitting in my driveway. When I was in high school in 2007 a neighbor had one and I for some reason fell in love with it. A fresh OEM+ 2-door MK5 GTI will always have a spot in my driveway.

    I'm glad your old console bush housings came off so easily... so many stories in the UK of those bolts binding in the alloy subframe and snapping. I had to fit a new bush in one side of mine while it was on the car I'm replacing my top mounts and hubs/wishbones in a few weeks, so this was a great refresher.

    • @TheEsPret
      @TheEsPret ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had it snap on mine, if you mean big bushing housing for the front control arm held by three bolts. I should have supported it when undoing the last bolt, got it slightly bent and it snapped off, luckily had enough thread left to put a nut on it and undo it all the way. Would have been a nightmare pulling off the front subframe on a driveway.

    @HumbleMechanic I just brought back to life a Fahrenheit GLI, the starter, rack and pinion, ignition tumbler and lock housing went bad, as well as the 12V power source diode spiked, all this happened within 6 months of me owning it, and I’m pretty sure it went bad before that, but after that cold snap of a winter we had here in SC, it all failed. Now I have to fix little things (my window seals make funny noises, my lock horn sounds like it’s dying, and my cruise control stalk failed which I caused when I swapped the ignition housing). After that, it’s modification time!
    I love your videos, and my favorite GTI headlights are the the mk7.5 S trim headlights, but then again my favorite GTI is the 7.5 (I have a WSM, my favorite color).

    Howdy gents. Thanks for the content. Always appreciate the humble vibe.👌
    I saw a vid today saying that Volkswagen has decided to stop making manual cars.👀😑🙄 Don't want to be driving no house hold appliance when everything goes electric. I will demand my manual vehicle. The people's wagen needs to think about all people. (I haven't done any more research about the whole no manual thing but it makes sense with electric cars so I'll probably have to learn to deal with it) if this is the case... I'm definitely going to be doing this with a friend. Even if it's a car I'll only be able to drive once in a while. I'll help him with his car and he mine...
    No doubt, even in a few years this will probably still be an expensive endeavor, and a lot of effort, not only physically but also mentally. At least it's about the journey and not the actual end result.

    I subscribed like 5 years ago when one of your videos described exactly how to fix my wife’s golf, and since then this is the first of your videos I’ve seen - 1 great content and 2- you’ve definitely lost weight.

    Granted I didn't go with an aggressive wheel, but I've got the two-toned wheels on my '08 Rabbit [Tornado Red] from a newer ~'17ish? Jetta and love the look. I've got the headliner out and scrubbed, just need to do new material and the car could probably do with a repaint [a LOT of the clear coat is coming off now]. Also the door fabric on the driver side is pretty much off lol. Only 110k on it though!

    This is when I wish I had a car lift. I keep putting off working on my car as I hate using axle stands

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100%! I use to say that lifts weren't that much. but man the prices have gone up a lot. Quick jacks are a good mid ground. 100x safer than jack stands.

    The inner part of the axle being stuck the way it was is a big part of why you guys were getting the strange shifting and down on power. I’m not sure if it’s just a mkv issue or with some aftermarket axles. I just had the same problem with mine it shifts like a dream now

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ive never had shifting issues with non factory axles. but I have had a LOT of other issues. on B5 especially. ABS lights, no fitment, noise, and so on

    Love the video guys. Its always fun watching the two of you working together, specially seeing Pauly running on fumes or high on fumes🤷‍♂️, I would love if you could do more videos on the 3.6 vr6 4motion drivetrain Charles, I feel like this engine drivetrain combo do not get much love. Especially the Passat

    I just had some repair done on my audi a3 3.2 and it was 2k. 2 lower arms replaced(all bushings went bye bye) and the oil seperator replaced. It clogged everything and was throwing check engine codes for : misfire and vacuum leak. They did a leakdown and found it had so much vacuum from the oil separator failure when turned on the oil cap wouldnt even come off. They replaced and cleaned my intake mani. Runs perfect.

    Hoping you will cover the convenience module. I have a project mk5. I’ve fixed all the major stuff and it runs great, but getting the keyless entry and central locking system working consistently again is on my list.
