If you stick with VAG, I'd deffo recommend the mk5 GTI, love mine, and they have a lot of potential, up to around 300bhp max on k03 stage 2+. Pretty solid engines too, especially the post 06 MY (BWA engine code). Power wise more potential than an R32 as well (unless you spend big money) although the sound/smoothness will never match the vr6. Although would be nice to see something outside VAG to spice it up. Got the same engine as this in my seat Leon, really tunable engines which a lot of people don't realise, also very reliable compared to cars of it's time
If you get a golf get the edition 30 already has the K04 turbo as the normal gti only has k03 turbo you can get the edition 30 to 350bhp very easily! P.s I made that mistake 🥺
Jason Embleton I second this.. I had a DSG Edition 30 with 360bhp and 400ft/lbs of torque and to say it was rapid would be an understatement! Spend a couple thousand on mods and you’ll have a near super car speed for less than 10k all in!
Older hondas (B16/18 and K20A series engines) are more raw and demand the most from your when driving on the limit, esp you have to keep it above 6k for power bands, for daily driving.... the lower power band of a turbo may be more suited. I've spents 1000s just to get an extra 30hp from a 1.6, Honda's are not the cheapest to mod.
I used to have one of these and now have a mk7. They were good cars back in their day. But inside and out looks so dated now. If you do go for one check for rust on wings, rear arches, sills, inside the bottom of the doors and boot handle area. My old one had various rust issues fixed at vw.
