    I had my red GTI just painted (the fenders started to rust as well as other bits under those plastic side skirts). Had the paintshop repair them and paint front & rear bumper to match the color (other than paint middle lower area satin black) and the side skirts also. Made a massive improvement to how it looks. After I bought it, I've been doing some restoration work on it... but painting I wanted to give to professionals. They also repainted the hood and fixed a dent on the back door and overall gave it fresh newer look.
    I also played it safe and changed that cam follower. Old one was in decently good shape still, but just in case 😁 New PCV valve as well and replaced those old worn out engine mounts with 034motorsport ones. Pretty awesome those, no increased vibrations or anything, but feels more "planted" (installed 034motorsport dogbone too with the stiffener).
    Got Revo intake installed too, and about to change spark plugs to some NGK bkr7eix ones which were suggested by VW tuner, because I'm planning to get custom tune in few weeks (finally!). I haven't upgraded that k03 turbo, but that's because I wanna see what the custom tune does and how I like it. Then perhaps just k03 hybrid and new down pipe (dunno which brand is good at the moment...) and let the tuner adjust accordingly. But those are for next year.
    Luckily belt was replaced just few thousand kilometers before I bought it as well as DSG oils and filter serviced, so they should last a while 😄
    Also got rid of that noise pipe and just put S3 throttle pipe there, because I didn't feel like some plug would be enough (just for ease of mind). And diverter valve is replaced by GFB DV+
    ...all kinds of stuff done so far 😅
    But enough about my excitement on the mk5... yeah, I still love it! Question... you don't have that cloth/blanket under your hood. In my mk5 it kinda hangs partially loose and I'm considering removing it completely. What negatives would it have if any? Would it heat up the hood too much and damage the paintwork, especially on those very cold winter days (it can drop to minus 30 celcius or even below that here)? Or is it just there to dampen sound? 🤔

    Another important thing to do when you change the timing belt, is make the same with the water pump and, for the price, add to the list the thermostat. In my case another common issue is the broke trapeze bushings. I changed them for myself for the powerflex polyurethan ones. This upgrade make a huge handling difererence!!! Good video.

    • @RatchetWrenches
      @RatchetWrenches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very true I did have to replace my thermostat at 66k miles so that was pretty early for it to fail. I agree to go with a better quality one. It’s kinda a hassle to change too

    Hey great video. I have a mk5 gti 6 speed manual with 265kms on the clock still going strong, roof liner still in mint condition do have faded controls though. Just a question to everyone out there my sunroof since Ive owned it has a mind of its own, when driving it opens and shuts and tilts then stops half way into it and doesn't go back. Try using the control system and it makes a loud grounding noise the after some days or weeks it will start up on its own and reset back into place.. anyone who knows what would be causing the problem???

      @@RatchetWrenches have you find any solution to reduce the problem at all?
      There is few rumors that the pcv system design is crap and by changing to aluminum valve cover and eliminating the pcv system it will solve the problem, as the real oil consumption comes from the front and especially the rear valve cover breather that goes to the turbo.
      Have you heard anything about it?
