Much prefer these videos on the old mk5 than the newer top spec cars you do, I’m sure most people can afford 1 of these and that makes the videos much more watchable. Just my opinion like.
Worth adding that if you leave the battery connected, don't open the drivers door or turn on the ignition as the fuel pump will prime, spraying fuel all over the engine bay
You may not be a mechanic bro but you're comfortable with tools and willing to learn. I reckon you should do all the work yourself and vlog it. Not only will it be great content and good for Mk5GTi owners in future but it'll be great for your skill set and save you a few quid.
Watching this vid as I just have a fuel pump issue with a recent Gti buy,but brother is crazy how this is way way way back and it’s amazing how you have grown with confidence working on cars yet alone now the unit is in play! Bravo to you brother! #Alhamdulilah
I’ve got a mk5 gti with 190,000 miles and it’s the same color and everything! I love your videos they make it super easy to see how to do the repairs that this car needs done. Thank you
LOL Mechanics charge people £200 quid to change that part, it took you like 10 mins , shows that a bit of know how can save a lot of cash well done bruv.
@@alexwadsley Glad to hear that bruv , for example on my 2 litre clio I was quoted and wait for it 2 grand to do the head gasket ,in the end I just did the K seal trick it's been holding up over 2 years now cost £30 lol

Great videos mate, I have an ED30 @ a 100k. It's really good to see someone go through ths journey, and all the things you are doing to the car! Keep up the good work, I'm already looking forward to the next one!
That loose oil cap will cause vacuum problems and will affect the idling and boost plus “whoorl” noises, hopeful they didn’t leave it loose on purpose to relieve oil dump pressure
Major Disaster Is that 'really' as in are you 'really' being so pedantic... 'really' as in agreeing with me in an equally sarcastic manner, or 'really' as in I have genuinely enlightened you?

My Leon TFSI has done 62k and is on its 3rd cam follower, if the coating has worn through it needs replacing. Unless you have documentation for the cam belt being done recently then you should definitely get it done, particularly if you're going to get it mapped as they are supposed to be changed every 40-50k.
Those bolts holding the HPFP on are known to strip. I usually try to keep as much pressure against the HPFP when removing or installing to keep the tension off the mounting threads as much as possible. You can change it to a stud conversion. Also, once you get that aftermarket intake, you can remove that turtle neck (oil filler neck).
Thank you! 👍🏼 Main focus for content is on the GTI at the moment. I’d love to do more M2 videos but it seems they always cater to a very niche audience when I upload them :/
Definitely not complaining about the GTi content, it’s nice and refreshing! All about branching out too 👍🏻 M2 is my future car so always keen to get your opinion. Keep up the good work pal!
That old cam follower was really bad, as soon as you see the black is starting to fade away it’s time to change it. Also about the noisy Diesel idle could easily be the cam chain tensioner. You should only hear the injections which are loud but no chain rattling. Chain rattling is a diesel sound. Great video
Would love to see this car given a new lease of life. I know it’s done 187k but it’s still a nice car at the end of the day. Rust sorted and other paint issues along with dints. With some nice new wheels/tints and all engine cleaned along with a few mods would look epic!
Loved the vid! The engine cover and pipes on my Mk5 were like yours but I had the engine and engine bay professionally detailed and it all came up like new
You should have name the video's more along the lines of ''learning basic mechanics'' or something like that. It's actually super interesting as I'm at a learning-but-still-terrible level mechanically at the moment and I'm sure lots of us on youtube are.
Next episode, 200k Miles GTi bursts into flames 🔥.... Just joking pal, check those Torx bolts are nice and tight and always worth checking for fuel leaks after a good job done 👍
Just changed mine at 85,000, needed doing. However my pump does not have the rubber hose or valve, it’s the older style with the ball joint on the left and the rigid pipes. Safe to say it took me a little longer than I thought and it was all thanks to that bolt, it was a nightmare to get too
Good video again! Looking forward this project! I have 200k miles (318k km) 5 GTI too and your problems are familiar. I recommend to check "chain and tensioner fix". It makes the already ugly idle sound even worse :D The chain makes the rattling sound.
Really good video. 1 thing I would do is replace the O ring on the fuel pump as well. Not a mechanic myself either just something I saw on another video 👍
Electrical cables = push - depress - pull. dont use tools, it'll kill them. Also, run car and remove fuel pump fuse - wait until engine stops. Also when replacing the follower, bump the cam so its at its lowest point before installing pump.
I bought a mk5 gti 2007 all blacked out and modded good I got the car for 3.3k and has 144k miles and the car has nothing wrong and it’s very good looking so I think I got a good ass deal
Same here. That bolt nearly ended my attempt, I was so close to tightening it up and sacking it off. Took me just over and hour to do mine, the cam follower itself was changed in like 20 seconds 😂 then it was back to that bolt 😑
Get a set with hex, torx and spline bits off ebay etc... and a 3/8 and 1/4 ratchet. A screw driver is brutal for jobs like that when they need a bit of force.
Next time use a paper cup/container to catch the fluid & should of changed the valve while you went through all this hard work! Good to see you learning though, I'm the same with my car
Not sure if you removed the 15amp blue fuse (fuse box between steering wheel and door) which prevents fuel system inadvertently charging. Someone else made this very good point if you open the driver door with keys in ignition and battery still hooked up, fuel might start spraying in your engine bay. Better safe than sorry :-D. Good vid though.
Love my MK5 GTI great road car but terrible on track. Might want to look at the Diverter Valve, they always split, also look at the exhaust at the CAT, it likes to full off the car, which mine did.
Just helped my friend buy one of these. Did you have to change out the timing chain tensioner on the FSI? Or are just the timing belt services sufficient? I drive a mk6 with a TSI, and the tensioner was all that was needed
My mk4 diesel gttdi 6 speed still cruises at 150mph at 3,200 rpm down Welsh mountainous motorways and still gets 50mpg whilst doing so, gotta love mk4, way ahead of their time back in early 2000's.
Basically.. when the cam rotates a lobe makes contact with the follower which drives the high pressure fuel pump.. so it's metal against metal contact thousands of times per minute.. so it's prone to wear and if not kept an eye on can lead to oil bleeding into file pump and fucking up injectors which will cosy shit loads.
Hi Hamza, I’m a new subscriber! Really good content! I’ve got a question for you.. I have the same car but my car sounds a little rattly especially when I drive for a long time. Is this normal and if not, how can I reduce the rattling sound? Just to make you aware, the sound is coming near the drivers side and has the sound of a rattling pipe. Look forward to hearing from you brother 😃
Nice video mate 👍🏽 Done this job on mine a few years back. It’s worth pointing out not to open the drivers door as it primes the fuel pump. I don’t remember bleeding or removing the shrader valve when I done it though? May have done though? Any particular reason for doing that mate? Cheers
You dont need that cloth bro, to make it easier, take the fuel pump fuse out, run the engine and it will be clean. After the job is done put the fuse back in and prime it by turning key 2-3 times
