Mate... What a legend. I was starting to get really frustrated by that noise, just could not find the cause. This literally changed the whole expeirence of driving the car with the roof up. I used a cut off piece from a cable tie by the way, two layers, worked like a charm. 10/10 would recommend. Have posted on the E93 FB group as well.
Just found your video after narrowing my rattle down to the roof (didn't happen when open) seems to have fixed it! In case someone reads this who's pin came out like mine did they just pick back up with a bit of force (I was panicked 😂) also when finished the pin won't go back up unless the pin is in the correct twisted position. (On mine anyway, non M3 model) thanks 👍
wow i really cant thank you enough! I have been putting up with the tin rattle roof for years and was always put off by the one hour crazy videos on how to solve it. I fixed it in 15 minutes watching this video. Tip for everyone regarding what plastic to use - i cut about FOUR OR FIVE strips of plastic (for each side) which come in the packaging for superglue covers. Thanks again!! :))
Thanks for this informative video! I have an e93 with roof rattle so was excited to see this. I was able to get the little bolt down and have the roof at that 90 degree service angle but I’m unable to twist the bolt at all. I have an 8mm open end wrench on it and it wont budge. I’m afraid to break anything so not going to force it. Do you twist it clockwise? Or counter? It looks like it should go clockwise to extend the pins, but again - I don’t want to force it and break anything! How hard was it to get your to extend, and which way did you twist?
Extending it is a bit tricky but doable. If it isn’t twisting then you will need to pull it out further until it does. Find where the sweet spot is to start turning it as it should spin easily with a 8 mm box wrench. Good luck 👍
@@Sals_Garage Ok interesting- When I first pulled it down it actually came almost the way out! I had to re-insert it. Maybe I just need to pull it further down. I’ll try and report!
@@Sals_Garage That did it! So glad I asked. It turns easily - almost by hand. I cut the edges off a plastic case of batteries, folded it over and slid it under the spring. Closed it all up and now I’ll test drive it. Thanks for the advice and quick response!!!
Hey man, thanks for this video, I slipped just one sliver of plastic on each side and my rattle is still present. Is it worth slipping another piece on each side? How many slivers did you put on each side?
Thanks for that info, ill definitely toss a few more in. Also, for anyone that pulls down a little too hard and pops the black metal square all the way out instead of just down, dont panic! It pops right back into place.@@Sals_Garage
In 1:47 - I am not able to pull that lever down. It's completely stuck. I found perfect fitting screw and pulled with a lot of force, both with roof closed and half open but it just won't go down. I tried wiggling a little bit to the sides to somehow unjam it but nothing. Any idea why?
@@dannymunoz2156 No, I didn't :( it's stuck no matter what I do and I don't want to break it. But my rattling is getting worse recently so I'll probably give it another try soon

Great video and thanks for mentioning me! I'm also glad that the fix worked for you!
Thank you for the awesome videos! Big fan.
Sal the diyer chad 💪 thank you for all your diy posts, we really appreciate it! You should have way more subs!
Thanks so much! Happy to help anytime.
OMG definitely quieter in the cabin and so much less or almost no rattling from the roof! Thank you so much!! it was easy fix too
Glad it helped! Thanks for sharing. 🙏

This is exactly how to do it without taking any part off. I figure it out myself a few weeks ago and fixed my e93 m3.

Cool! I got the same rattle. Thanks for the quick fix! Much appreciated! What kind of grease did you use for the work?
Glad to help! I used this grease: amzn.to/3q3vlIe

It came ALL the way out. Dropped into my hand.
@@agegg23 it’s ok for it to come out, just put it back in and find how far to stick it in that allows twisting it to actuate the pins.

Try pulling down with lock jaw pliers. Good luck 👍
Did you get it to work? Mine is stuck too!
@@dannymunoz2156 it can be stuck if it’s never been pulled before. Keep trying. Maybe spray some PB blaster to soften the rust a bit.

@@Mr_Zisky I used the lock jaw pliers Sal recommend and it finally came out. Give that a try!
What was the size (dimensions, x by x) of the plastic pieces you used?
Sorry, I don’t have any specs on the size. They are very thin pieces of plastic I cut from a plastic box of screws, good luck 👍
@@Sals_Garage thanks for the reply. Video was good and I will try this summer to correct

How many pieces did you stick in there so far?
I put two thin pieces on each side but test it out for yourself since it may be different for everyone.

What plastic do you use to slide it into the pin
Plastic screw container from home depot. Cut small pieces.
Where can I find an 8mm wrench like that?

😂, I was referring to the black spindle, used to turn the pins in and out of place
@@JonathanTaylor- yea I used that same tool I linked.

How much to do the job I’ll pay
I’d do it for $50, located in San Jose CA.
