      I was chasing this problem for a long time, probably 3-4month till I took it apart, and the only piece that can produce such a noise it's that Pin or Rod, however you want to call it. But you can't imagine how happy I was! Before doing that you can try to use some grease, as I did in this video.

    You don‘t have do disassemble the locking mechanism to add the plastic. Just extend the pins with the manual actuation (it has a little service hatch that can be opened without removing the liner). After the pins are extended, just pry the springs up a little and you can add the spacer by sliding it in from the back.

    Great job! Can't believe you had the patience to remove the head liner and piston housing. However, better you than the BMW dealer. I also have a roof rattle that appears to be just above the drivers side window. You can only hear the rattle when the window is completely closed....when the window is open there is no rattle? Obviously, with the window open there is no pressure applied to the upper portion of the roof. Checked the round plastic pieces in the housing and they appear to be intact. Would appreciate any suggestions or options that I can try. Thx.

    • @Makhnovets

      The front lock would be my guess. but the easiest way to test it is to remove the headliner, and it's an easy job to do, then drive it and push on each lock slightly, I think It should be easy.
      Good luck.
      Ahah) That's when you have no job but you have a BMW and know that the dealer will charge you $5K for repair.

    The pins on the 335i model look very different, and doesn’t seem like they can be fixed the same way. All my movement seems to be laterally along the tube around it. I figured it may just be better to replace it, but I’m having trouble finding the part anywhere

    • @Makhnovets
      @Makhnovets  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, It's almost impossible to find a replacement part, but I still would try to fix it, like I said in the Video, you can put some thick grease inside, and see if it's still making the noise. good luck!

  • @oceanus2293
    @oceanus2293 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can confirm it's a 5mm thread to pull the actuator. Mine was pretty stuck and I had to use pliers to pull it down. Also worth noting is the spacing on the standoffs when removing the piston housing. Mine came off while unscrewing the mounting bolts. I just adjusted their spacing based on the other side and the roof fit snug. Sadly, this repair didn't fix my roof rattle but hopefully it fixes yours!

    • @oceanus2293
      @oceanus2293 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Last thing to mention - the left rear clip on my headliner is supposed to be slid out from the side, I broke it by popping it straight down. Still secured but would recommend popping all the other clips out and then popping that last one out to the side to avoid breaking

      @@Makhnovets Yeah, the buzzing in my roof sounds closer to the c-pillar on the passenger side and is more rpm related than having to do with road conditions. @@sanchojr sorry for the late reply! If you are anyone else still has this issue, it was actually the center compartment between the rear passenger seats. I just keep a microfiber towel stuffed in there now and it stifles the vibration (and comes in handy for spot cleaning the whip too).

      I wanted to see if you'd highlight/make a comment and 'highlight' it.
      In your video you mentioned it but didn't emphasize the absolute importance of it. Specifically When removing the retracting rods, marking EXACTLY, where they were. I learned this the hard way.
      While I did mark where it was, I wasn't precise enough and off by a few mm's and the roof would close/lock properly.

      @Makhnovets  ปีที่แล้ว

      scan the OBD, see the code, then do the update, just leave a new comment or sent me an email. You also can try to press both roof buttons same time close/open for 30 seconds, if there is nothing major it should do the soft reset, not certain about this solution, newer try it myself, but somebody told me that. clear the codes if you can, you can do it from the dash as well: th-cam.com/video/pO6MNo6djtc/w-d-xo.html it's a pretty shitty example, but the last menu will reset everything to default. you can read the code as well true your dash, it's basic but it's useful, watch the whole video to see how.
      My thoughts will be Harness to the micro switch. good luck

    Hey buddy, since you've worked on the convertible a lot, have you ever had this issue where you'd start the roof opening sequence by holding the button, the roof unlocks, but the windows don't roll down and the sequence stops. When I roll the windows down manually a little bit and then press convertible button again, the roof opens all the way. Strange behaviour which I can't understand. Is there a microswitch that controls this maybe?

    • @Makhnovets
      @Makhnovets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First try to reset CTM and FRM. You will need carley or ncsexpert.
      Another thing if the car was coded? For comfort windows closing or so, there several options that you have to check specially in convertible
      The microswitches either work or not, and if one of 8 of them is not working the roof wouldn’t open at all. Try reset windows first, i know you can do it in carley or ista or inpa, but not sure about this method. Press and hold the button that close or open all windows, press to roll down the windows and hold it for 10-20sec, if they roll up while you holding the button, keep holding until it stop doing any action, if that is not working, just use inpa or carley, hope that will help!

As regards coding, car has recently had DME and battery changed, software was cloned from previous DME and battery coding I did via NCSexpert. Everything worked out fine with no surprise errors.
