UPDATE ON THE ARBE WAX PEN! I installed the tip wrong 💀🙈😂🎉 it works PERFECTLY!! loosen the screw, push the tip alllll the way in, tighten the screw….🙈🙏🏻
Glad to hear this!
I was just about to inquire if the screw on the side was used to tighten the connections! So happy to hear you figured it out
Hey great video. Thanks for creating it
thank you for the cool video and the tools required imma try this
Sprue wax is really nice to use with the help of a mandrel - I find that when I want to make round shapes, sprues are super nice, or even to make a bezel! Usually with such soft wax like that I recommend joining with dental tools too
Wow! I think I am now going to try carving wax. I have the casting lab all set up, and I have a 3D printer, but probably the real masterpiece will be carved by hand. Very inspirational.
Keep the videos coming. You’re helping keep me inspired
Thank you so much! I’m hoping to get back to it all very soon! 🥹💜
I LOVE IT!
This was everything I needed and more. Thank you.
I’m so happy to hear that! 🙏🏻🥰
Yay you’re back. Love your videos which I accidentally stumbled on just before summer. You explain everything in so much detail, thank you. Can’t wait to see how you cast your own jewellery now xx
Thank you so much I’m glad you’re still here! 🥹 💜 I recorded the entire process of the first time I casted last week, I’m excited to share it, it was very interesting 🙈😂😂💜
Thank you for sharing this! 😍 What a great video! All my questions are answered! 💜💜💜
Aw yay! Thank you, I’m glad it could help you 🙏🏻🥹
First off, you are one of the Jewelers on TH-cam who has helped me figure out what I needed to start silversmithing because you're so detailed. So thank you for that. I really like the look of wax carving, and I've saved this video for when I want to start. My question is what are all the tools you need for the casting process itself and where did you get them. I saw you made a short video, but can you make another showing the process from start to finish, all the tools/equipment, and how each step is done? I'd also be interested in knowing what type of environment it can be done in, does it need to be like a garage? Or can it be done in a room? Thank you!
Great video. Thanks. I have the same problem with the Arbe wax pen. I lightly scraped the copper inside the white handle and it helped if I get the tip in the perfect spot. Also, I ordered a new tip and it is larger which may be giving better contact; however, it is still touchy. And the handle got hot when I dialed 60. 50 was okay. I like your cheaper, battery operated one. Will give it a try.
Thanks for making this 🙏
I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻💜
Very clear and helpful video. Thank you!
I’m glad I could help! 🙏🏻☺️
Thank you this is helpful! I do regular silversmithing but i wanted to make a cast ring for my cats ashes , i wanted a super textured style with granulations.... so the idea was to put the ashes in resin..
.. but what i am not sure about... if i have the ring in wax and carve a round hole to place the resin and ashes ,( once casted obv lol,) or make an outside separate wax bezel then stick it to wax ring. Have you ever had to do anything like that?
It was interesting to listen. Thanks for sharing information about the tools 🙂
I'm glad you liked the video, thank you! ☺️
just found this and im in love with it thanks you for showing the minutia.
You’re so welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🥹💜
Fantastic video! As a self-taught (trying) wax caster, you hit all the points I’ve been trying to refine or answer for myself. Always good to see how or what others use to achieve results. So happy you are back. Very informative, no matter what subject you are illustrating. I also use a oversized baking tray under my top drawer of a roll top desk as my bench. Not perfect but I have adapted it and it works for me. Thank you! ❤️⚒️❤️
Thank you so much for your sweet words! 🥹💜 it is fun to see how people use their tools especially since there are SO many great options🙈💜
So good your back. I use wax to secure Opals on dopp sticks for cutting and finishing them. Wonder if it is the same wax? It comes in different colours for different melting temperatures and strengths. I mainly use the red / brown because that is what I have a lot of. Are you travelling again? You said “When I get back to the states”.
A beautiful and interesting explanation. All of my craftsmen love you in my factory.
Thank you ☺️🙏🏻
i use the wax ropes to melt over a flame and build up wax that way!
Thank you for the detailed information it was super helpful! May I know the difference between the cordless wax pen and the wax pen shown at the end? How do you use them differently? Thank you ❤
and also heres apro tip, heat adjustable soldering irons exist.
you can go from anywhere between 100-700celsius they are comfortable and have many attachments
cost about $30-50
That’s super helpful! Thank you! 🙏🏻
I have the same problem with the sprue wax! I’ve ended up using it to melt into my silicone molds and it surprisingly worked lol
You can always find something to use your not so favorite stuff for! 🎉🙈💜 I would love to learn how to make silicon molds one day! 🫢 one thing at a time though, this jewelry thing is expensive 💀😂🙈
Only thing I haves used soft ( sticky wax) waxes for is sprue mounting, adding sprues in difficult spots as I can simply mold it body temp from hands, but the best use I found was adding fillets to sprue joins to the model, because when molten it has such low viscosity compared with blue and green it will " flow " around sprue joins so easy to make smooth molten metal transition areas to help avoid porosity and air from sharp edges around your sprue making its way into your model. Lol so that's almost no help when you have a boxful of pre formed "ropes".
Can you please show how you get the stone out once you completed the wax bezel please?
Just discovered your account a few days ago and I’ve been watching your videos on repeat! 😍You got me so excited to start trying doing Jewelry myself! more like a hobby since I love Jewelry and I can’t afford solid gold rings myself I thought I just do my own and save some money while enjoying a new hobby. My question is how expensive is it getting your wax ring castored in 9k gold? I can’t find any information online - hopefully you can help a girl out. Might be too expensive- then I won’t get into it and buy rings instead lol! Anyways, love your account and your voice and your being in general! Very warm and kind soul 🫶🏼 keep it up!
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for this sweet sweet comment! 🥹💜 I’m so glad I’ve inspired you to try something new!! It really is SO MUCH FUN! 🥹 May I ask what country you’re in? If you’re in the EU you can have pieces cast in 9k, if you’re in the states they don’t sell 9K. If you’re in the UK or a country that can cast in 9k, a typical size stacker ring would probably be about £120 or $160 in cost alone. If you go up in weight, let’s say a woman’s signet ring size ring, the cost of the gold can easily be around £280 or $400ish. I hope this helps!!
Yay! She's BACK!!! ❤ A very well done video. A lot of what you talk about is simply assumed by other TH-cam makers. Not intentionally, but the details are just not shared, so thank you. Great filming, too. 👏
Thank you so so much Gabriele!! 🥹💜💜💜
What tools do you use for finishing up a ring? Can you do a video on that too?
I would honestly love to see all your tools and machines 🙏
My dream is to start making my own rings. Rn I don't have the money to start. I make simpler jewellery rn, earrings and necklaces. But again my dream is to do more silver Smith work and wax carving.
Your awesome!!
Thank you so much 🥹
Hi😊 Can you please do a tour of the supplies you need to actually do the casting process at home?? I have been searching for a long time for a small oven to cast the wax into silver at home. Great videos and wonderful pieces that you make btw!😊
Thank you so so much! I absolutely will make this video for you 💜 I just cast for the first time this weekend and filmed the entire process🙈😂 it was a mess BUT I did it 🙈🎉 I hope you find it helpful 💜
Thank you for all your great information I love your rings. I’m a silver smith and now I want to start wax carving because I brought a sand casting kit. I will order the tools from your links. Can you share the name or website of who you use to cast your jewelry? Thank you
Great video! I have a question for you, is "silver smithing" the process of doing everything by hand (not using wax, etc?) If yes, I assume this is much more work correct?
Great advice! I've been watching vids on the different wax types to try and understand what I need. I'm sorry that your Arbe wax pen isn't cooperating. I've heard good things about that brand, in general. I do think I"ll order the battery pen and basic tools for melting and building you suggest. Thank you for answering my question about the wax ring spinning mandrel. I've located a couple now that I know what they are called and need to decide which way I'll go. I hope my creativity holds out until I can get things together! I try and keep a sketch book handy, but I'm no artist so we will see how far I can go. Have a great weekend!
I also and not an artist and as much as I wish I could dish a nice sketch out of what’s in my brain I can’t 🙈😂 also, update on the wax pen, IT WORKS PERFECTLY now lol. I installed the top wrong which someone kindly pointed out and now it works 🙈🎉
@@MiteraMade so glad it works!
Ty so much for this well rounded information video. This is the video no one makes because even letting one tiny detail in the dark is THE trade secret. Quick question tho, I have a 3D pen at the ready, and I heard some people started using 3D printers to produce models. WAX is usable when it comes to jewelry molding. What about PLA? Do you know anyone uses PLA for jewlary? Is it viable?
Great video , just subscribed
Thank you 🥹💜
Im in love
Thank you? 🙈 lol
I would like to know what brand of reamer you have.... Mine is a wooden one and it is very cheaply made and i want a better one.
Have you used light brown modelling wax for jewelry? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I've seen jewelers use it but my search has come up empty
Well done on your creative journey!
Please tell me where you got tools, the bladed mandrel, the bench attachments for ring making, the rotating mandrel you waxed up on, was it cookson?
I bought a lot of my items on Amazon and have a link to my Amazon storefront where I have a curated list of everything you need 💜 the link is in the description of the video, I hope it helps 😊🙏🏻
Other places to buy your tools are Cooksongold and Rio grande 💜
Where do you buy your supplies (metal sheets, gemstones, bezel wires, etc.) - the “consumables” per se?
I get a lot from PepeTools, Rio Grande and Amazon 🎉💜
Where did you buy your mandrel stand?
Hey! I've just started wax carving rings and I have a quick question. When you make a design, do you need to make a copy of it in every size, or do you have a method so you can make it once, duplicate that, then easily resize? I've seen some jewellery people who I know cast them with wax with 20+ different sizes. Surely they can do the same master design 20+ times?
It would be easier to carve each master in each size, cash them and make a mold from the cast. Then you can just use a wax injector and the mold to replicate each ring.
Question, I want to start wax carving simple jewelry, may I only use an electrical carving pen (various ends) or do I need other tools? I have no space in my appartment.
Honestly you need very minimal tools for wax carving. I’d just grab a cheap carving set on Amazon, a battery operated wax pen and a jewelers saw with wax blades and start playing 💜
Hello! I'm curious about ring sizes. If I create one ring design in one size and later want to make more of them, each in a different size, do I need to create each of them separately from wax, or can I work with just one piece and adjust the size individually? I'm new to this and still learning, so I apologize if this is a silly question :D
Yes, once you make your ring in wax and cast it, you will need to make a mold from that cast and use a wax injector to make more. You will need to create each individual size in wax and cast them and then make molds and inject them with wax to get a replica. Hope this helps.
I was wondering, how do you calculate shrinkage of the metal after cooling down? Has this affected your castings where the stone is too big or ring size too small?
Thankfully I have not experience any shrinkage in my castings. 🙏💛
What do you use the denatured alcohol for, I think I missed it. Thanks😊
I use it in a spirit lamp to burn and heat up my tools 💜 I do have an electric pen now though that heats up so I don’t need the lamp and alcohol but it’s a nice affordable option when starting ☺️💜
Would you recommend to a beginner to first work with clay/resin before starting wax work? Or would it be fine to just jump straight into wax?
I thinks it’s all personal preference! Some people love designing in CAD and 3D printing them in resin (if that’s what you’re referring to) I am not they tech savvy 👀😂 my personal style is also better portrayed in wax, I would say start with what interests you most. If you’re trying to stay in a not too crazy budget though, I’d probably start with wax 🙏🏻
@@MiteraMade Thank you! I was curious if I should follow your path of starting in clay first for any fundamental skills, but if hopping straight into wax is okay then I most likely will!
Have you ever used regular black shale in a jewelry piece?
Never but I love that idea! 🫢💜
Really helpful video! But what do you do with the wax? Do you send it to someone to finish it? :)
Thank you, I’m so happy to hear that 🙏🏻🥰 I use to mail my pieces do a casting house but I will be casting all of my own work now 🎉 I will be sharing that process soon! 💜
@@MiteraMade thank you! sounds really interesting 🥰
Cantik banget kak😂
I tried to make this
How did it turn out!? 🎉
Hi I want do wax carving can you suggest books or course online. I'm already making silver jewellery.
TH-cam- Soham Harrison & Estonia Metalsmithing Tutorials
I just want to know what happens to the wax after we pour the gold over it?
You don’t pour the metal over the wax. After you make your mold it’s best to use a steam dewaxer to melt almost all the wax from the invested mold. After that you run the mold through a kiln on a burnout schedule and it vaporizes all the remaining wax leaving a hollow mold. That’s when you pour your metal in under vacuum.
Hi.Hello 💕❤️🤝🥂
I LIKE GOLD &SILVER SMITH
SO
I LOVE YOU
❤ Hi.Adriana
I'm Fisher
I just cast a ring and would love to show you but don't know how
That’s so exciting!!! Find me on Instagram Mitera Made and send me a DM, I’d love to see it! 🎉
I tried to send it but i can't send you a DM for some reason

That device looks like a "compass" to me.
its defective I have one you don't need to twist and hold it for it to heat up. it might be the tip that's defective you can ask for a replacement.
if the wax is soft...why would it break?
soft and flexible.
hard and brittle.
thats the rule of material hardness
That makes sense. But it’s a weird soft wax, I don’t know how to explain it other than it’s almost like candle wax? It melts super easily and doesn’t really bind back together. I guess comparing it to candle wax is the best I can explain it. 😊
It's called a compus...
U should sing 🤔
this thought makes me laugh so hard 😂
I’m a like kinda a beginner I’ve been working on jewelry for 2 years now as soon I graduated and I need to learn the basics of this 🥲
That’s awesome!!🎉
