I feel you on the initial struggles lol 🙃 All your rugs turned out awesome! And yees keep it up, would love to see more 😍 (also thank you for the very kind words 🙏)
Would love to see you show up for a collab video with jazza to show him how to go overboard in giant scale hahaha your probably so done with tufting tho arnt you 😂
The fact that he saw another creator post a similar video and he just got excited about how much fun they must have had based solely on how much he enjoyed the process is why so many ppl love jazza. He is genuinely kind and creative and it bleeds out through his videos. It’s what brings so many back to your videos over and over. 💜
jazza and nerdforge uploading a rug making video on the same day? what a coincidence Edit: so this comment is getting some traction so maybe you'll see this: You guys HAVE to do a collab someday PLEASE Jazza
A little help If you’re considering dabbling w it in the future again. 1:Instead of shaving the long strings of, you can just pull them out and if you end up collecting enough you can use it at a pillow filling or something similar, or just throw it out. 2: instead of cutting the cloth up to the yarn you’re supposed to leave like an inch outside of it, that you glue to the back of the rug, either with spray adhesive or with a glue gun or similar.
These guns are basically just latch hook but FAST. Latch hook is cheaper and safer, although it takes a lot longer, you get a very similar result if you really want to
I love that Jazza essentially speedruns the history of artistic mediums. yes he could just follow instructions entirely but, showing us why concessions are made, why decisions are made when it comes to these mediums is important. it's entertaining but, shows how these things had to develop to get here as well.
and just like that the student becomes the master 🤩 this was such a fun watch and gosh am i so sorry for the cry laughing i did while watching the first attempt 😭🤣 thank you so much for the shout out im so glad my video helped you out! 🫶🏼 let me know if you need help on your giant rug!
This video made me appreciate even more what pain and effort went into Nerdforge's rug. For me thats kinda what Jazza videos are about. Showing the grittier side of learning a medium and showing that it's manageable with a bit of time and effort.
And yet nobody's ever talking about lending a hand and tools to a friend. It's always, buy this and buy that. And to be frank, the first example was deliberately wrong, to create content.
@@sampokemppainen3041actually Martina DID talk about lending tools in their video.. they had someone in their area lend them their tufting gun for the video 😅 it would be quite hard for them to help Jazza out because they're literally on the other side of the globe 💀
I’m a knitter and crocheter, so I spent a third of this video screaming “just go to a yarn store and get a yarn winder!”. That DIY atrocity was a real face palming moment for me, lol! Equal parts ingenuity and hilarity! Amazing as always Jazza. I love seeing you try new art forms. Keep 'em coming…
As someone who lives nowhere near a yarn store and would have to drop like $30-$50 to get one, I thought it was genius 😂 I'd rather use one of my dad's drills for free and use the money on more yarn 😅😂
Hear me out. The big rug has everyone in the studio sitting at a round table like king Arthur. And they're all wearing different outfits based off of what they like. For example, Dave as a space marine or what he wants to be but all at a round table with everyone in the studio.
Jazza, my Grandma taught me this craft when I was a little girl in the 1960s. However, the materials were simpler. Grandma used hessian, recycled from sacks that had held chook feed. The tool was a simple brass hollow needle of about 15cm with a beveled end which pierced the hessian. Before starting, she threaded the wool (which would have been left over from a garment that she’d knitted) through the top end of the brass needle until it emerged from the bottom, pointy end. The wool was in a hand wound ball in her basket. I remember there was a screw on the side of the needle which adjusted the tension. I’m sure Grandma used a frame but I can’t remember it. I do remember the pretty punched wool rugs on the floor of her kitchen, which she backed with, probably, more recycled hessian. I really enjoyed your video but I can hear Grandma turning in her grave at the thought of spending $1000 on the set up. (She lived through the Great Depression and was still saving cotton wool from pill bottles in the 1980s. She was also from a German family and you didn’t waste anything.) As a maker all my life, I happily put my hand up and admit to jumping on the latest fad and spending far too much on stuff. That’s why they invented Marketplace!
A RUG OF THE OLD STUDIO'S BACKGROUND! A RUG OF THE OLD STUDIO'S BACKGROUND!! A RUG OF THE OLD STUDIO'S BACKGROUND!!! A RUG OF THE OLD STUDIO'S BACKGROUND!!!!
I've never seen a rug look so happy to be stepped on! I LOVED seeing the long haul process and the struggles that came with it! That was a lot of fun seeing you learn slowly and make something really sick! And hell yeah, I'd love to see a big ol rug from ya!
21:40 It's funny because I just saw the Nerdforge video and then came to see yours 😂. It's cool when channels from around the world that share their main topic supports each other 👍.
Make a huge rug homeage to your old filming background with the color blocking, then use it under your current filming spot so your feet get some cozyness
6:23 as someone who dabbles in the sewing and knitting arts, i was amazed at how you solved that. It's ingenious. I have power drills! I'm gonna try it.
this is cool and a more modern way of making rugs or tufting. me and my grandma use to make rugs like this but we did it the old fashion way. we just have some needle, yarn, scissors, mesh and our imagination. That ' machine' is intimidating for me so i'm just..i'll stick to my traditional rug making lol maybe in the future i'll try that out. As always your creativity is impressive.
I love that you didn't try to hide the early mistakes. It's probably extremely helpful for those who want to attempt this in the future to witness the struggle it can be without proper preparation. 😉👍 You got there in the end though and it turned out great. Well done! 👏🏼😁 BTW, I was actually amused to see this video pop up on my feed a bit after Nerdforge's. 😆 I actually saved both to my playlist of craft videos to watch (because I couldn't watch them right away) and now I'm watching in reverse order so I'm off to watch Nerdforge next. 😅
Rug tufting from both Jazza AND nerdforge? What's the deal with tufting? Is this medium all the rage in the art community right now?? Edit: HOLY SHIT JUST WATCHED TO THE END AND NERDFORGE WAS MENTIONED?! You guys should collaborate! That, or you could do a super crazy large rug tuft to rival hers 🔥🔥🔥
Martina was part of the round the world artist paint where Jazza started it off and sent it to another artiest and they sent it on to another one, etc. If you haven't seen it you should look it up.
I love that you jump in and are willing to fail and learn the hard way. I think that sort of thing lays a foundation for the knowledge you gain later to build on.
Can’t believe you and Nerdforge dropped twin videos in the same week, that’s epic😂 And not to hate, Jazza, but watching you flounder so much in the beginning really made me appreciate how much planning and studying Martina put in to her creation. Your rugs came out wonderful, I’m sure your kiddos are super excited by their new floor ornamentation😁 If you do make a massive rug I hope you hang it like a tapestry during your wintery June and July months. My suggestion would be to stick with the stained glass aesthetic cause it really works well with this medium, and to do either a Godzilla vs Kong scene or a Pacific Rim Kaiju battle.
I love watching Christal. She knows her stuff and has super helpful do's and don't. I'd like to stuffed one day but it's so much money and work that I enjoy watching others on yt. The shaving part is always the most satisfying to watch.
I appreciate you showing the full process: jumping in without any knowledge. It is easy to get excited about a new thing to realize that it is way more complicated than anticipated. I enjoy your sense of adventure, play, and having fun. Most important, not giving up but learning ❤ idea for the big project: Hobbit Shire
I think since they both are doing it and nerdforge really didn't get the rug she wanted in her space maybe they should see about doing a colabe competition on this medium.
omg please make more rugs! they look so sick! its a long shot, but i feel like something inspired by full metal alchemist would make a really really cool rug
I feel like the most obvious choice would be to do a giant rug with your classic dragon with the coins and fire in the background scene. That would be a badass rug to have.
You should try macrame next! It can be very fun to work with, play around and make your own patterns, and there’s all sorts of wall hangings you could make. I’ve seen some with basic mountainous scenes, (mostly the basic shapes) but there are so many patterns for leaves, flowers, and more that you could try. Check it out, you may have fun with it! :)
Plzzzz do more rug tufting videos. Me and my husband watch you when we go to bed. I love seeing you do the same hobbies I'm into, especially when you are brand new at it. Not to bag on you, it is just fun to watch someone else learn while I'm learning too.
I know I'm still mastering drawing fundamentals, but Jazza is who aspire to be. Taking your knowledge base and applying it and even expanding it with other mediums. It's so inspiring to see someone try a medium they've never tried before, researching it and acquiring the requisite skills enough to be able to do something great in that medium.
Jazza, give oil sticks a crack. Lots of fun, pretty much oil pain in stick form... glorofied crayons, but with more blending etc can be used with oil paints. Makes a hell of a mess, super fun
EDIT: Collab with Nerdforge needs to happen! Now I want to see you do needlepoint. I think you would actually enjoy it. I've done needlepoint since I was a kid and it is one of the few things my ADHD brain allows me to enjoy for hours at a time. 😃
Hey Jazza, on the wool winder, where the metal guide arm keeps moving around and you have to keep straightening it while you wind, rip apart an old clicky pen and remove the spring. Slide the spring over the end of the metal guide arm and work it all the way to the flat part of the L. It will prevent that arm from wiggling into the unlocked position.
This brings back memories!!! For those on an strict budget, look up latch hooking! you do not need to have a tufting gun with that. I used to do that as a kid and it was a fun project and way to learn!
Nerdforge found they didn't want to stick it on the floor where it would be hidden, so wall hangings would be a cool idea. I love the idea of using it for sound baffeling.
Great video, Jazza. I thought about tufting but it was way over my budget. However, for those like myself with the urge to make a similar rug why not try latch hooking (not to be confused with rug hooking)? I've done it for millennia... well, forty odd years... it uses a 3.5 hole per inch mesh (quite expensive, though at ~AU$22 per meter) and acrylic or wool yarns. You can buy pre-cut lengths of yarn (like the cut yarn produced by the tufting gun) but it is way cheaper to cut it yourself - although very time consuming. You need only one specific tool for latch hooking and that is the latch hook itself, about AU$5 from a craft store - it's actually a modified Victorian era boot button latch. It uses far less yarn than the tufting, it is manual not machine made, to make the rug almost as dense as tufting use two or three threads per hole in the mesh. Check it out.
I would love to see a massive Erdtree rug to celebrate the new Elden Ring DLC coming out! I think the bright colors of the tree on a bleak background would aggressively draw the eye!
Did you guys plan this?! SO MUCH CONTENT!!!! I love this more of the same feed my adhd need for the same stuff from multiple people i like yes pleaseeeee
It too me a while to watch this video because life kept getting in the way but I got SO EXCITED that two of my favorite peeps came out with rug tufting videos at the same time 😍 can't wait to watch hers next!
I watched Nerdforge's video yesterday and it's so interesting to see two (and a few) very creative, talented and ambitious people take on a nearly identical challenge with such different approaches. Fascinating.
If you want an idea for a large scale rug like Nerdforge, I think a good idea would be your old backdrop. Or maybe the backdrop you all painted for Insert Art, or something in that style.
first of all who the hell is Nerd forge and what do you mean youtube is trying to tell you something ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/I I /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/I ``````````````````````````````````````````````
Jazza! To compete with Nerd Forge you are going to have to do something epic. The thing that comes to mind is a battle tapestry with space bears. Would love to see that!
I saw Nerdforge's video before this one and while I was watching yours, I was like "I wonder if Jazza has seen Martina's video yet." That last bit answered my question lollll
I'd love to see more rug making, but especially since you also like Nerd Forge I think bookbinding is another creative hobby you'd have fun trying out! There are so many possibilities, especially on the scale from traditional to modern techniques and hand bound books would be great gifts for the folks at tabletop time
on my recent crochet project I've worked with 2 different colored yarns simultaneously and it makes such cool color blends!! i wonder what tufting would look like with two different strands, creating "mixed" portions!! (also its always good to buy more yarn than you estimate. most yarn shops let you return the extra if you keep the receipt. color matching retrospectively is a hassle)
I'm sorry but the paint splat w/out any context looks like a puddle of blood to me. All I can think looking at the three projects is that Jazzatar stabbed someone with a pencil leaving nothing but a puddle of blood at the scene of the crime.
I'm with Martina! I would love to see you do more rugs because they all turned out amazing. I would love to see you do something more complicated similar to Nerdforge maybe even doing a challenge and up scaling their rug!
Great video. I had never heard of tufting but it looks awesome. I would like to see a massive rug paying homage to all the 80’s American action TV shows. The A Team, Knight rider, Dukes of Hazzard, Airwolf, The Fall Guy, Miami Vice etc. you can probably tell they are from my childhood! Great job Jazza!
not me ABSOLUTELY LOVING THE PAINT SPLAT WHAT. LIKE JAZZATAR MURDERED WHO? I was kinda looking forward to the final dive bc the poll got me exited with the top comment “happy little rug” (bob ross) but in the end I do think this was really fitting and again great work as usual. ❤
I love that you show yourself struggling with a new medium too! I think it gives people more motivation to try it too and keep trying even if it doesn't work at first. It's really inspirational! Also, clearly the universe is sending all of us a message to get started with rug tufting now that Nerdforge and you uploaded on the same day. xD
Yassss!! I watched NerdForge’s video first and the whole time I kept thinking “Jazza should see what Martina did!” 🤣 I LOVE the Jazzatar! And the little ones are so much fun too, something soft for a hand rest on the desk? Pencil rug! ❤❤❤
I want to get into rug tufting and have watched Red Back Rugs videos and the Howls Moving Castle video before this one. So the entire first portion I'm basically learning why the recommendations are the way they are. My first thought when he threaded the machine was: isn't he suppose to use 2 threads and make a windey spool first? Well that's why! Lol great video!
Here I am, Saturday morning catching up on my YT videos, and I'm like what are the chances that I'm watching two rug making videos. I'm glad you mention NerdForge. You need to make the dragon to compliment her piece.
Tuft an epic giant rug with a design that combines a mandala and a Bob Ross painting. Or maybe just dragons. Oh or a rose window. A rose window with dragons! Having the symmetry in the design would make the rug so much more usable instead of being forced to view it from a single specific direction.
Satisfying as well for the jazzatar, which is usually the dabble, to the wonder of being a the dive. Also a jazza giant rug, obviously must include a dragon, and maybe a castle. Perhaps bring shad in as a collag for the castle design.
I’m 💜the completed test rugs you made! Yup next project lurking in the wings! Go big or go home. Lots of designs to choose from. I think I prefer making rug tuffing with this strange contraption is to go manual however slow that process is. Years ago I had a machine that looked nothing short of an egg beater. It stitched the wool to the canvas making loops so no trimming afterwards. It made very plush rugs. I got that machine from the Nederland.
I watched Nerdforge's video before yours Jazza so when you said that you were going to show an epic rug at the end I knew it had to be Nerdforge. I love both of your channels so much and myself and my 4 boys love watching your content everytime you upload ❤
What a redemption arc! And TY for always including your early struggles when you try a new craft. Sometimes the simple-looking things have a steep learning curve and that's okay!

Would love to see you show up for a collab video with jazza to show him how to go overboard in giant scale hahaha your probably so done with tufting tho arnt you 😂
I just came from your video! So fun to see you two take on the same medium!
I hope you turn your rug into a tapestry Martina, it would help you stay warm in the studio while displaying all its glory😁
The colorful backdrop you had as a giant rug in your new studio would probably be an epic homage to your old studio.
and it woudln't feel so bad to cover it up with furniture like it was with the howl's moving castle
I just finished watching Nerdforge's rug making video. I guess the next step will be TH-cam's biggest RUG collaboration!
Me, too! Great idea !
It is so crazy that they both released a video on this on the same day

Remember that thrift store painting that became a dragon and a knight on a lake? THAT would be an amazing rug
It kind of looked like a tapestry, so it would work perfectly
Yes!! That sounds so cool 😄😄😄
I came to comment a dragon but that would be even more epic!
That would be so epic on such a large scale 😮
Came here to say that exact thing, Jazza needs to do a dragon rug - fingers crossed we see one
jazza and nerdforge uploading a rug making video on the same day? what a coincidence
Edit: so this comment is getting some traction so maybe you'll see this: You guys HAVE to do a collab someday PLEASE Jazza
Literally just watched their video on that lol. Really interesting coincidence
if TenHundred drops a tufting video tomorrow I quit youtube
Maybe they both watch Ali Spagnola(sp?) she did one recently
Martina is such a badass tho! I really hope she keeps the rug tho..
Seems like tuft competition…
That was the best joke I could think of.

A Jazza video WITHOUT a dragon?! Guess we know what needs to be on the potential giant rug. Or maybe you could do a rug for your Space Bears.
Someone just suggested the thrift store dragon painting Jazza did some years ago.
Space bears riding and or fighting a dragon in rug form

I would love to see more rug tufting! Maybe an even bigger project? 👀
OMG! I would love if some how Jazza and Nerdforge do a collab with this media! Like a battle of some epic rug battle!
Please do this again and ACTUALLY do a bob painting!!!!/rug
Jazza’s art is so amazing!
Jazza just trying the gun is so funny😂😭😭💀💀 at 1:17 early 31 sec
I'm about to start tufting and your video is life-saving. Thank you so much foir sharing
Just finished Nerdforge's video and now this. Is TH-cam trying to tell me something...
first of all who the hell is Nerd forge and what do you mean youtube is trying to tell you something ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

a remake of the original jaza backdrop with all the characters as rug would be an awesome video!
Jazza! To compete with Nerd Forge you are going to have to do something epic. The thing that comes to mind is a battle tapestry with space bears. Would love to see that!
I'm learning a lot from this channel. 😂❤. Plz do part 2 . Pllzzz.
I saw Nerdforge's video before this one and while I was watching yours, I was like "I wonder if Jazza has seen Martina's video yet." That last bit answered my question lollll
This is, truly, one of the best videos. Learning and practice is just so valuable. It's great to see a longer process.
What about a proper Bob Ross rug? Or of course a dragon in a Bob Ross rug?
I'd love to see more rug making, but especially since you also like Nerd Forge I think bookbinding is another creative hobby you'd have fun trying out! There are so many possibilities, especially on the scale from traditional to modern techniques and hand bound books would be great gifts for the folks at tabletop time
Jazza and Nerdforge both releasing rug tufting videos in the same day. Is this a new trend?
on my recent crochet project I've worked with 2 different colored yarns simultaneously and it makes such cool color blends!! i wonder what tufting would look like with two different strands, creating "mixed" portions!! (also its always good to buy more yarn than you estimate. most yarn shops let you return the extra if you keep the receipt. color matching retrospectively is a hassle)
It's pretty cool that this happened to come out the same day as nerdforge's video :]
I will say i very much appreciate seeing the initial struggle it hrlps give a more realistic view how starting something new can be.
Satisfying as well for the jazzatar, which is usually the dabble, to the wonder of being a the dive.
Also a jazza giant rug, obviously must include a dragon, and maybe a castle. Perhaps bring shad in as a collag for the castle design.
Would love to see a rug that's a love letter to one of your TTRPG campaigns, whether it's a main villain, a big battle, or all the PCs
Very cool and ambitious. Looks like you learned a lot about yourself and tufting. Thanks for hanging in there and giving us a great result.
After watching Martina just expertly make a massive Howl's Moving Castle rug, watching you was pretty painful at first LOL
What a redemption arc! And TY for always including your early struggles when you try a new craft. Sometimes the simple-looking things have a steep learning curve and that's okay!
