Marathon training, whilst balancing work and a family life is so so tough. Those super early runs and super late runs are just part of the balancing act. Keep it up man!
Just ran my first marathon this past weekend and went SUB 3! You’re videos kept me going through my 5 month block. I feel ya, definitely don’t wanna run most mornings either. But man, it feels so good and sets you up for the rest of your day 🙏🏼
As a father of two (5 and 2 years old), I love seeing the kids interested in your running. It's such a huge part of your life, and I'm sure it'll fuel an active lifestyle of theirs for many years to come! Best of luck in your training Eric. -Alex
These videos are terrific. You’re a great example for your kids on how to work hard. You’ve motivated me to add more Guster to my marathon training playlists. It’s been a nice boost.
I’m not running 2:38 or even sub 3 yet but I know the struggle of balancing life, work, and training. Thanks for this video it’s a bit of inspiration to keep going
Such an awesome one! I loved the more vlog style long form look into your week, including more everyday life stuff and more on nutrition and food. Would love to see more of this style vlog, seeing you navigate daily life with running is just so relatable and inspiring. We're all busy, but we always find time to fit those runs in 😊 Also can't lie, the Cyrus and kid content is definitely a favorite 😁
Introduced my brother to your channel last night before he heads to Biola Friday. He enjoys these types of videos and got him to watch the series. You inspired me to push more forward into marathon training and I hope he will do the same with his racing 🎉🎉🎉😢
hey man l started running in 2022, ran my first half in 2022 and have had the injury bug ever since. Doctors told me I have posterior tibal tendinitis. l've rehabbed, ran for 4 months in the beginning of the year. Was running 3x a week 3miles each run. Traveled to Germany for a month, and have had a hard time kicking things up again. I was running 1-2x a week when I came back no more than 2 miles. I went for a run 2 weeks ago and now am dealing with pain again. I was wondering if you could shed light some light on the rehab exercises they had you do. Thanks man. I love the content and how well put together these TH-cam videos. Continue to inspire! I love the marathon series, it motivates me, and I want nothing more than to get health and knock out my first marathon! That’s all I have talked about since I started running as a hobby. One more thing, may I ask if you are still dealing with pain/discomfort at all in your ankle? Thanks again Floberg. Hope to hear from you Love from California
Ugh. So sorry you’re having to deal with this. My PT had me do a lot of single leg work on balancing disks (half sphere upside down) with holding a weight or with an elastic band attached to either my left or right, moving the band toward my body with my body while balancing. Calf stretches on the wall, a bit of scraping on his part, and more balancing disc on my own at home. I did a lot of walking on my toes around the house as well. It took a solid 6-8 weeks of regularly going in and working on it consistently on my own. Eventually, the pain resided to a dull 1-2 out of 10 on the pain scale. It’s still there, but it never goes over 2/10, and usually goes away completely after the first mile. I wish the best for you! Keep being diligent and doing as much as you can at home every day!
@@flobergruns man! Thank you so much for replying! I appreciate the insight, I’m definitely going to take it slow and be more consistent at home. Good luck in the marathon training, I’ll be tuning into the series and rooting for ya!
I too use a soft flask and will *never* go back; I personally mix my own carbs (table sugar), caffeine, and use Gatorade powder for electrolytes, in my tiny little flask I can easily fit 600 calories of carbs (and I’ve pushed it over 1,000).. yeah it’s sweet but its the same ingredients and prevents me from needing any gels at all and I can either have another flask of water or just use the water stations during races. Just my opinion, love BPN as a company, I just find G1M a little tart for my taste and I have problem with it chunking up and getting super frothy when I mix it. If anyone has found a way around that I’m all ears
This motivated me during my 8 mi treadmill run this morning, which is hard to find 😅 I’m hoping to break 3:20 in Chicago (or Indy, same backup plan as you). Love the videos and the encouragement to put the time in!! ❤
Wasn't doing morning runs before work until recently, but am really loving it as it feels like I have a day off and means I can space out gym in the afternoon and get some recovery in. Commuting 3hrs each way to the office 2 days a week too, so that means late night runs for those days, no excuses 👊
Great video Eric, blend of running/motivation/family was perfect. Would be interesting to see how well you burn fat vs fuel at a lab test. Taking on carbs during easy runs when you should be near fat max can be detrimental to increasing that fat burning capacity but agree it’s a game changer during steady and faster.
I appreciate the family aspect of your videos. I will constantly adapt and battle training with family life. What brand of tops are you wearing in most of your runs? Cheers brother
Tough one , that's for sure ..I know we say its all about the journey .. but sometimes it just sucks .. it just sucks .. head down and grind it out . I have a colonoscapy tomorrow to rule out the dreaded 'C' , got a physio next saturday because it looks like I have picked up an overuse injury on my way to my Autumn race .. and you know what .. I am more worried about getting my run in before I have to stop eating and start taking laxatives ... we are all bloody happy lunatic's 🤪
Awesome Video! Big Fan of your Channel, its a huge Inspiration. Getting into my First 35-40 mile Weeks. Andy tips on constantly tight and extremely sore muscles, particularly the glutes?
Hey, man. New to the channel. Fairly new to distance running, as I’ve only been running consistently for about 15 months now. Anyway, do you run your easy runs based on feel, pace, or heart rate? For example, on your easy runs, do you set out and just run what feels easy to you? Do you run them based off of pace? Or do you monitor your HR and try to stay in Zone 2? Just curious. I seen another video of yours where you went from almost a 4-hr marathon to now a 2:38. WILD. Just trying to take notes lol. My longest run yet is only 15 miles, so I’m nowhere near marathon-ready. One day…
Great video, mate. I'm on a 6 runs per week schedule with a newborn at home and know what it feels like. Can I ask how do you capture and display the live stats when running on picture, like at 13:00. How do you track it?
What arm HRM do you use? I have a Polar H10 chest HRM but it constantly drops out/doesn’t work right even after changing battery/etc.. need to find something that works better. Do you like the arm HRM?
Refreshing to see this video! They say carbon plated shoes take off 5ish % . Balancing w family and work whilst training adds 12% so just remember that hahha
Really enjoyed this sort of sneak peek. Just a random question - how good is it to do fast reps like 800's on a hard surface like a road etc for your knees? Are there any specific things to be done to avoid the chances of injury when one runs fast repeats on road?
It’s not ideal to do speed workouts on concrete or road. It’s way harder on your body. Try to find a track or even a dirt path if you can or even a combination.
@@JoshuaJCourtright-p1s Yep thanks for the advice. That's what I thought honestly and I was shocked by seeing this in the video. I guess he does a lot of conditioning and intensive recovery which somewhat reduces the chance of injury.
Constructive criticism Eric, it doesn’t look like you eat enough food, especially quality of it , for your level of training, I believe this could be contributing to your sickness. Keep killing it mate 💪🏻
Hey Eric, I want to ask whether you have ever encountered heart rate signal disappearance from Coros Heart Rate Monitor? I have a pair of it and it will occasionally happen during my long run or workout 2-3 times for 10-15s each time. It kinds of bothering me.
Do you put your pants on one leg at a time or do you like just levitate into them with both legs at once? I often sat around wondering what a 2:38 marathoner’s life was like. I never had much of an interest in what the 2:37 or 2:40 guys were doing when they weren’t running. PTL for this video.

I really really really appreciate the detailed overview of what it looks like to train with a family - thanks for doing this!

I laughed out loud watching that back 💀
Nice words to wrap it up. Definitely can relate to your situation. Keeping getting out there!

Glycogen takes time for the body to synthesize, it does not really get synthesized while running. You burn the carbs from the blood.

When you are walking on water, do you ever feel guilty about stepping on the fish?
why do you run in the morning? why not in the evening after kids are in bed? I love running but hate getting up too early.

water bottle for a 4 mile run on Monday morning?
Yup! I was out the door quick and felt dehydrated from sleep. But it’s also basically an adult pacifier for me at this point too.
I drink (sip) on all of my runs, just helps keep the throat moist and body hydrated
