i think the weirdest thing about this bike is how good it looks in real life. I always kind of ignored it as an option because of the photos i saw of it, but once i saw it in real life on the showroom floor i was stunned. Have been riding on it for about a month now, planning a lot of trips with it this summer:)
I know this is marketed as a "sport" bike. But I love touring around on this thing. Plus in my humble opinion, this looks far sexier than any "sports touring" bikes on the market. Granted, it may not be as comfortable.... But to do a 2-3 hour journey on this is very do-able. Comfort and vanity (not always a bad thing haha), both needs fulfilled.

I really love the functionality of this bike. I mean, even the display looks soo modern and great. And you're able to take something with you under your seat, there's plenty of room for a sportbike! And I mean also the price, the services, the costs are so low, you can't compare it. I've a lot of friends, which are using the MT-07, but I actually need to say: The torque is great but the looking? I would call my 500R as my Babyblade 🥰

500f or 500R? And do you feel like your knees are super bent while sitting on this bike? I am 6’4” with really long arms and legs, I just don’t wanna look like I’m riding a grom or something but I know I’m not ready for a 600, thanks mate
@@stevenlevy6680 I fit them both. And my knees are not near as bent as they are on an mt-03 or on Z400. Which I can’t comfortably fit on anyway. I went with the cb500f because I prefer naked bikes and it has taller handle bars. I’m 6’5”, 230lbs, 35in inseam and 6’7” wingspan on my arms “I’m long limbed as well” and this bike fits me great. You’ll look a little big on it but not near as much as a 300-400cc bike. The cb/cbr500 is heavier that other starter bikes but that’s because it’s a more full sized bike.
I couldn't have said it better myself. I know so many friends with 600-1000s that live for speed and said I should have gotten a bigger bike. I am 5'6 and 150lbs, this bike is perfect for me. I just got a brand new 2018 CBR500R for a steal and put new clutch levers, tidy tail, quick shifter, heated grips, usb charging, gear indicator etc. My first bike ever and I absolutely love it. I just bought a 2017 cbr 500r last week. It’s my third bike. It only had 62 original miles on it. I thought well damn a new bike at a used bike price. Sold. My first bike was a ninja 500 and my last bike was a cbr 600f4i. In terms of power and riding it the bike is well balanced and has enough juice for around town. Definitely not as fast as my f4i but is comfortable and easy to ride. For what I need it for it’s perfect. Everyone at work has been telling me how good it looks and all that type of stuff so the looks are definitely on point. Safe riding friends.
I had the cbr600f4i too, and I still love this 500 bike. I never used the full power of my 600, because I don’t go to the track and the insurance was really high.
Great post. Totally agree with everything you said. I started on a Yamaha R3 and while a great bike to learn on, moving to a 2019 Honda CBR500R was a dream. Who needs more than the power this bike delivers for street riding? I would rather ride this to the max than ride a liter bike on the street. I urge new riders to learn their craft on something that doesn’t intimidate. Highly highly recommend this bike. I fear finding one in 2020/2021 might however be difficult. But keep looking. The slipper clutch is amazing. I haven’t even changed the exhaust. My one critique is the lack of ability to put rear spools on this bike - so I would strongly advise if you are going to lift this bike via the swing arm get a really good rear paddock lift (like one that sounds like a dog breed) don’t try to lift it on a cheap lift your investment needs a quality lift. So my only comment to Honda give us the ability to easily add rear spools. But if you are on the fence about buying this bike let me give you some good friendly advice...buy it!
I got a 2019 CBR500R as my 4th bike. First was ZZR 250 (Ninja), Yamaha FZ6, FZ6R, now this. I have to say the CBR500R is about the right amount of power and delivery for the roads, and for off-road if you get the CB500X. Lots of low-end power that you can just roll-on in any gear and it just picks up speed. It's definitely a more relaxed demeanor than a Ninja 400, but it deals with a passenger better. I get between 2.8 and 3.4 L/100 km so far (in 7000 km of riding) with a 500 km fuel range. Insurance was also very, very good compared with even the Ninja 400. Many riders have over 100,000 km and some over 200,000 km on these Honda 500 twins. It feels quick up to about 120 or 130 km/h, which is where you get pulled over here in Canada. One thing I found is the windscreen deflects wind into my helmet pretty badly. I rode for a while with it off and it helped a lot. I also found it feels more nimble if you don't inflate the front tire to the maximum rating. The LED lighting all around is fantastic but I wish the high beam had a wider spread... it's very narrow so you can't signal adjacent vehicles with it. Another nice thing is that you can get a SHAD top box for it, which looks a bit silly but is extremely handy to have, especially when taking a passenger. It's certainly not for everyone, but it's such a humble and fun bike to run about. If you're looking for adrenaline rushes and performance, this isn't it. If you want a great economical daily rider / light tourer that's fast enough to wind out and enjoy without going excessively fast, this is a solid choice.
Ty for sharing your experience of 500r, ur praise is based on reality... I owned new one though I used only 300 kilometer but it's really looks sports and easily to ride, u don't hv to bent much like u hv to while ride rr and its exceloration power is awesome and road grip is perfect... 👍
A set of lower clip-ons and rear sets these 500s will take corners just as fast if not faster than a 600 in the right hands. Most of the big youtubers simply do not understand what they are talking about.
Nice informative video and I see my bike picture at 5.56 hahaha...You must have taken from FB group for 500R. I love my CBR500R just like every other owner of this bike.
True what you said about older guys coming back to user friendly sporty bikes with more upright seating & water-cooled twins. I started riding bikes when I was 11 years old. Now I'm 71 aways had motorcycles including a early 350 SL Honda scrambler, CB 750 Honda, my last bike I love Kawasaki ninja 650r. Thin water-cooled twin. More upright seating position. All the power I need. It is one of best sellers by far in the Ninja lineup for good reason. This Honda 500 is also excellent motorcycle for all the same reasons. If I had one first thing would do is change the pipe. Leo Vince makes a nice looking & sounding carbon pipe for the CBR 500. Also what you said about 400# bike more stable on windy rides & freeway.
Currently this is sitting in the no.1 spot on my wish list, assuming I pass my test soon. Its getting a lot of flak from many people, but I think it'll suit me best. Been more than half a year since I sat on one in the showroom but I still remember how snug it is, I'm 6', 32" inseam. Wish the handle bar is a bit higher though.
@@HaoVu1 Hmmm interesting. It's true I didn't have experience riding, and I'm not sure if I should get something bigger or if snug is nice. The CB250r (I assume it will be the 300 for you, I get the 250cc version here) has the best ergonomics for me, but the seat is a bit too hard. The salesman says I fit better on the CB500X, but it felt too big for me. I also have to cross a 13 mile long bridge, with dedicated motorcycle lane, daily. Reason for a heavier bike is due to crosswind. Still, people cross it with a moped.
Why Canada gets adjusted forks and US does not. Also I love that handlebars above the travers in US it is under. I wonder if you can flip em on top for US version
Great review, about real world riding. Best aspect of the CBR 500R, sitting behind 600/1000cc sports bikes watching them trying to ride around corners, very entertaining. Sold my C1 ZX10R, had it new since 2005, 65K miles on it, great bike, got a brand new CBR 500R now, love it.
If you are a passive rider I would recommend this. But if you plan on growing skill and speed or for anything other than commuting get something bigger. Honestly I regret not getting a 600 because I already feel like I outgrew my 500
Honda resale is excellent so even if you decide to move up just keep your bike in good condition, dont make whack ass mods and youll barely lose any money if you decide to sell
It's a wonderful commuter bike and isn't bad for a full day ride. It has enough power to pass cars on the interstate without being wild for a beginner rider. It's a sexy looking bike, just wish there was more color options available 😅
The one @ (11:45) mark looks like my 2019 500RA I had before it was stolen this past winter -- in COLORADO of FEB 2021 :( -- Any who, I thought I recognized some of those pics from members...lol I think I will add that taking corners is awesome in it and I can attest to it giving you more reassurance which, in some cases, can be a very good or bad thing..lol
Just wondering why you don't own one anymore????? Your literally one of the people that really helped making my mind on this bike being the right bike for me. I'm an absolute noob and never rode a bike before and looking to get a bike in the coming months and I'm deff getting the cbr500r I'm really excited. Just wondering why you got a different bike and what bike
I loved the 500 and i stand behind everything i said in this video. The 500r community is second to none. I ended up on a kawasaki klx300 supermoto and ultimately decided that was better for me. If you want a sportbike this is the one to start on.
I started with a 2018 CB500F, wish I had gotten the R with the fairs for better aero. Loved that thing; got a '19 600RR rn but looking to get the 2021 CB500X for inner city/shitty streets riding.
After contemplating for over a year which bike i should get (ending my riding haitus - i used to have 2012 sportster 883 (iron) that i put 12k miles on) - i think this will be the perfect bike for me - i don't need to break the sound barrier but i do want something that is nice and easy to ride with enough power to pull in highway duty and passing power - this seems to fit the bill perfectly. Any reason why I should not get this bike (I will be buying a new one).
Yes at highway speeds they’ll do more than fine. Youre still quicker than most cars on the road even at high-ish highway speeds. The only reason I can think to consider something else is if you want to pay just a wee bit more you can have your pick at a 650cc option from Kawasaki
Bmw was actually First with bikes and their techonolgy is slightly above all other bike manufactures. They dont make a2 R bike so this The best a2 option
Love mine but does anyone find the seat uncomfortable after a while / should I get a comfort seat or some gel stuff... I'm skinny-ass. Any suggestions before I bite the bullet?... 🤔...
After a while most stock stuff ive been on starts sucking. Im talking 6+ hours. I think a seat concepts or something similar would be worth it if you like long rides
I was close to getting the CBR500R but the cost for it compared to a brand new Ninja 400 were almost identical so I got the Ninja. I wanna try the 500R though. Can't go wrong with either
Since August of this year and yes it's my first bike. I honestly don't want to "upgrade". If anything have 2 bikes. This one for commuting and a 600cc for racing. Don't need a 1000cc.
@@HaoVu1 Got my 2022 CBR500R a few months ago ofc it has the dual disc and inverted suspension. My cousin drives a 2021 CBX and when he drove my bike he was flabbergasted by the braking power and handling compared to his single discal and covnentional suspension
Best advice is buy a cheap 250 or 300cc used bike from a honest seller. Learn to enjoy riding a motorcycle without needing a specific motorcycle in order to be happy. Enjoy the process of learning how to enjoy and skillfully ride a motorcycle. Then, when you are confident and you know its what you really want, buy the bike you truly want. If you can afford to take a learners class, please do.
@@HaoVu1 really prefer this bike considering I'm freshly 20 and in Florida it's not considered a full sports bike. I Have to take a learner's class to get the endorsement. But definitely will take more throughout my learning stage, so I'm not questioning my riding

@@HaoVu1 Thanks for the tip. Im ONLY look on my country market (Portugal). And the low price i Saw was beetwen 4 and 5k. Its to mutch i think. Im looking for outcountry market but the problem is idk the bykes are in good shape
@@HaoVu1 Wow, that was a good deal. They are damn near impossible in my area to find used (at least for the 2019/2020 models). I wish I could find a good used one for that price.
Well Young Lad! Just bust your balls in life, be kind to people and don't buy into all this Socialism bullshit. And you too one day enjoy the fruits of your labor. Good luck and be safe.
Yeah theyre pretty pricey new compared to everything else but for that money id just spend on a nicer used bike....if you buy new the honda will hold its resale value better than others i think

Ask me why I have to order a cbr500r new? You can’t find them used since they seem to be a lifelong bike.
I really like the orange and black cbr500r
It's a wonderful commuter bike and isn't bad for a full day ride. It has enough power to pass cars on the interstate without being wild for a beginner rider. It's a sexy looking bike, just wish there was more color options available 😅
The one @ (11:45) mark looks like my 2019 500RA I had before it was stolen this past winter -- in COLORADO of FEB 2021 :( --
Any who, I thought I recognized some of those pics from members...lol
I think I will add that taking corners is awesome in it and I can attest to it giving you more reassurance which, in some cases, can be a very good or bad thing..lol
i just picked mine up and fell inlove with it 🙏🏽 got the red one tho
I have an 08 600RR, its a love/hate relationship.
Geez dude where in the hell are you riding through a postcard? That's some scenery.
Yosemite
I see my cbr in the slide pics,
in my country, this is a sport bike for us, we cant even access highway with 400cc below bikes
Good buke. I will buy it!
I was close to getting the CBR500R but the cost for it compared to a brand new Ninja 400 were almost identical so I got the Ninja. I wanna try the 500R though. Can't go wrong with either
How long you had the ninja? First bike?
Since August of this year and yes it's my first bike. I honestly don't want to "upgrade". If anything have 2 bikes. This one for commuting and a 600cc for racing. Don't need a 1000cc.
Hi mate, does the newer version can swap up the body parts with the old one (2016 version)?
Thanks !
Im not sure about that man sorry
@@HaoVu1 Ok, no problem 😄
One more reason to love the CBR500R .... the 2022 CBR500R will have dual front discs.
And beefier suspension too! Well played Honda
@@HaoVu1 Got my 2022 CBR500R a few months ago ofc it has the dual disc and inverted suspension. My cousin drives a 2021 CBX and when he drove my bike he was flabbergasted by the braking power and handling compared to his single discal and covnentional suspension
Does anyone know if theres a size difference Like seat height and so on between the 500 and 650 or are they identical
1 inch higher on the 650
650 is a little more aggressive
well said sir
How does the performance compare to the CB500x?
Im not sure bro. Same engine different platform and different wheelbase for different purposes.
I just got a white cbr 500r, i can't find the group
facebook.com/groups/CBR500Rowners/?ref=share
Please help.... I've been planning on getting this bike. But I've only rode semi-automatic, and I'm kinda antsy to be honest 😭 best advice???
Might as well get 650r at this point...
Might as well homie!
i mean if speed is what you after and risking your life at high speeds on public roads sure get a 650 🤷🏽♂️
What handlebar weights did you have?
None
What road were you riding on its beautiful 😭
Yosemite National Park
nice color bro, looks like robocop
Didn’t u said u from sac?? Jw how much was insurance? I’m from your area and planning on a 500r.
Depends on a lot of factors but i was paying like $140 a month for full coverage. I have speeding and traffic violations on my dmv record though
I'm paying 77 a month for full. No traffic violation though and im 43.
why not the cbr650? not because it has more cc but because of the sound of a 4 inline
650r is a beautiful bike but id rather have an RR at that point.
I Love this bike 😍
Nice bike, I'm getting one ❤👍
I have a cbf125. Im driving for about 3 months. Im already doing about 7.000 km on my byke. Now i want to take the license and im aiming to take cbr500. But its quite expensive. It is Worth it buy a used One?
Yes theyre reliable. Just keep a close eye on the market and act quick when a great deal comes along…which they always do.
@@HaoVu1 Thanks for the tip. Im ONLY look on my country market (Portugal). And the low price i Saw was beetwen 4 and 5k. Its to mutch i think. Im looking for outcountry market but the problem is idk the bykes are in good shape
Why only single disc brake
Its just not a performance oriented machine, nor does it make very much power to really need dual
If you can pull a U turn on a steep hill, that's too light.
Compared to the harley iron 883 ,this 500 cbr is way more economical
True.
Is this a four stroke bike, or two stroke
4
How much did you sell it for?
$5700
@@HaoVu1 Wow, that was a good deal. They are damn near impossible in my area to find used (at least for the 2019/2020 models). I wish I could find a good used one for that price.
How tall are you?
:)
5’ 8”
@@HaoVu1 thanks my brother
That's only 999,999 reasons .
tHaTs CLicKbAIt!
Wwow.! 🤩😎👍
1986 Honda Interceptor 500c V4 68 HP about the same weight ..so much faster
The 80s called it wants its motorcycle back
@@HaoVu1 Funny how an eighties motorcycle is faster than one built in 2020 lol
Something to be said about the sound of a V4 engine too.
I had that bike too bought it brand new. Had more Honda bikes than other brand. My 650r
Ninja twin had years now at my age probably
my last bike.
Always remember. No matter what bike you're riding, it will only go as fast as you twist the throttle.
Unless it's a 250
Well Young Lad!
Just bust your balls in life, be kind to people and don't buy into all this Socialism bullshit. And you too one day enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Good luck and be safe.
I wish it wasn’t so overpriced
Yeah theyre pretty pricey new compared to everything else but for that money id just spend on a nicer used bike....if you buy new the honda will hold its resale value better than others i think
