I've Been Living in an SUV for 1 Year
มุมมอง 283ปีที่แล้ว
One year ago, I quit my 9-5 I.T. job, sold most of my stuff, and bought a 2008 Honda Element. I cashed out my pension and built out the Element for full time living. My mission is to see as many National Parks as I possibly can while living full time out of an SUV. It has officially been one year since I hit the road.

Honda OEM Motor Mounts vs Aftermarket (Duralast)

First impressions comparing genuine Honda OEM engine/motor mounts with aftermarket motor mounts from Autozone (Duralast brand) I order most of my OEM parts from HondaPartsNow.com and eBay. Between the two of those I have been able to source every OEM part I am looking for. Physically going into a Honda dealer has never really been anything but a headache and I tend to avoid it at all costs unle...

    Supersport makes sense for me bc I love going to the track. Been to 5 track days in the last 3 months and looking to get into club racing next year. I don’t ride it on the street much anymore. Definitely looking into getting a supermoto as a second bike though. Red lights suck on my 636 in the city. Takes me 30 min to get to country roads now. My bikes before this were Honda nx250, z125 pro, z400, ninja 400, and now a 636 and Talaria mx4. I took the slower route to perfect my skills 😂

    It's expensive but what I've done is fit my van's windows with electrochromic glass but the type that allows for either a varying degree of black or a varying degree of reflective surface. It's all controlled via an app on my cell phone (or a switch in the van) and eliminates having to store material and/or set this stored material up on the windows everytime it's needed. Oh, and of course it's the perfect fit. I'm sure it can be purchased somewhere but I made my own. This not only saved lots of money but was fun (in a learning sense) to do.

    Hello friend. Its so good to see you traveling Death Valley in your Element. I just got an 07 Element and one of the things i def want to do is travel in her but i have been worried about the mpg and running out of gas. Especially going into national parks like D.V. with not many gas stations. I was concerned with running out between last chance gas before park and inside since the Element gets about 22-24 mgg on 15 gallon tank. How many miles did you get per tank? I am getting about 250-260. I have been looking at videos of Elements doing cross country trips to get myself ready. I will be driving from Florida to D.V. then to Oregon. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Very inspiring.

    The Ref;ectox is good if you are on a low budget. But the heat shields from HeatShields will last for many many years. I have the Gold HeatShields on my 2019 Silverado and they work Awesome. I made a video that shows the temp difference between having the HeatShields up and then removed then and also what the temp would be without any window HeatShields or window tint. It was only 94 degrees when I made this video. So I'm sure the inside would be like a furnace inside if the outside temp went to 110 degrees. th-cam.com/video/pRZ716dNmoM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1dvjmfDwjvVRf_Cu

    For want is wroth, I have 2 pilots, one I bought new and the other one I bought used. When it was time to replace the motor and trans mounts I bought OEM parts from the dealer and it cost me an arm and a leg! On my used one I bought my parts from the internet, and they were way cheaper. Fast forward… a replaced the OEM at 6 years, and aftermarket at 4.5 years. I spent about $750 at the dealer and $220 at parts geek. On the OEM, I started to noticed the wear at about 4-5th year of use. Aftermarket, after 2-3 years. In my opinion, if you doing the work, buy quality aftermarket that have warranty. You will save some goodg gas money. But if you taking your cars to the shop and paying labor, buy OEM.

    Used duralast on the rear mount for a 2010 Corolla and brought way to much engine vibration to the cabin. Worst than the original being replaced. Got burned on this one. Will be ordering OEM. Never again when it comes to engine mounts.

    You did not do your research for this video; the thing to check is do the aftermarket mounts, with harder material, vibrate and damage the vehicle vs the softer rubber in an OEM part, or a part direct from the manufacturer. The debate regarding changing your mounts is based on the fact that they use a new, hard material for mounts nowadays that causes intense vibrations; this is why some people recommend you go to the junkyard and get a mount off one of those cars instead of buying new; that mount came from the factory and has the old, good rubber material. What you did in this video is irrelevant to the topic of the video; mounts= vibrations; a visual inspection doesn't matter.

    I see gaps. I want absolute light blocking both ways.

    • @HaoVu1
      @HaoVu1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have limo tint all around and that helps. The heatshield + tint + some black duct tape blocks 99% of light from being noticeable at night from the outside. Trust me i check this routinely because its important to me as well. I always point my car with the windshield facing in a direction where people generally wont be walking in front of my car at night because that one is the most noticeable. I use black tape to make longer edges on the heatshield for the windshield and back window and its almost impossible to tell i have my lights on full blast inside my car at night :)

      I think its the quality and density of the rubber. The japanese companies are built on solid principles and probably have relationships with suppliers that go way back. The chinese stuff is just to make a quick buck using the most cost effective raw materials

      I think its the quality and density of the rubber. When I think about it, a good chunk of car maintenance is just replacing some sort of rubber that has worn down. Whether it be a gasket or a bushing or a dampener of some sort. The quality of the rubber is of paramount importance and you can bet that the Japanese feel this way
