The original 350LC was only 47 hp and that turned out to be a quite popular bike ! If only people judged bikes by their fun factor not how much HP they have.
When the Rdlc 350 launched the fastest thing on the road was what? A GS 1000 probably with 90hp. In today's market a 110 HP would be your average road bike while a sports bike makes over 200 ponies so yeah, it still checks out. This was my first bike before jumping on the 650R. The only fault in a year of ownership, all season riding, and 10.000km were the OEM tyres. The Dunlop sportmax d222(?) is a plastic deathtrap in/on anything but warm, fresh asphalt. Change that and the bike is amazing, easy to handle, agile in the city and comfortable for multi-hour tours. If I didn't find an excellent deal on a trade-in for the 650 I'd still be enjoying the hell out of this!

As always great reviews. I am thinking about one of these, wanted a Kawi z650 of Vulcan S but I went to dealer and feel for the CBR500R as soon as I sat on it and with a Commute getting over 70mpg is needed! Hi Mark, loved the video and review. I was just thinking the weight of the bike and cost brand new is a little expensive. For just 2k cheaper you can pick up a ninja 400 weighing in a lot less. Are you going to complete the set of Hondas powered by the 471cc twin and review the new Rebel?
Thanks for your reviews. I'm planning to do the motorbike license next year and I really look forward to a bike like that. Those Honda 500s somewhat entered my heart. I will definetely test-drive one once I have the license :-)
@@markpulling12 Yes cheers mate, I actually own one of these and think they are brilliant bikes as documented in my vids. Great we have similar findings so great job you.
Excellent review as always. Suggestion, consider using a compact tripod so we can see your riding position when you do walk-arounds. For example, the Manfrotto BeFree series tripods come with a bag that you can carry around your back while riding. They are also small enough to fit a 30-35 liter backpack. I have one for my DSLR when I travel. Other brands have similar offerings.
Great review Mark. Thank you. I currently ride a CB650R but think this bike may well have suited me just as well. Love the fact it's got a nice low seat height. All the best Trev 👍
Thanks Mark. I need all three. I feel some test riding coming up lol. My VFR750 of a few years back gave me wrist trouble so I've shied away from these type of bikes, but your review is brilliant. Always prefer a Honda.
i just got a 2020 honda rebel 500cc same engine like cbr500r. is amazing till now. the thing is that i have to do break in period for the engine. so after 1000km i will really now how powerfull my bike is.
Hi Ronald if you are on a2 then get this rather than restricting down the 650 but if you are full power then the 650 is ultimately more fun if you take it slowly as you are new, good luck .... regards mark
why are here still classic side mirrors? Why not electronic ones? Like imagine having a view where the dashboard is... And ofc it would be through cameras, like 100x times better viewing angle
Top review as always! If you had to choose between this, the ninja 400 or an R3, which would you have. I'm in the market for a daily commuting bike. Regards James
@@Stu0808 Agreed. I've owned all 3 (prior gen 2018 R3, 2019 Ninja 400 and 2019 CBR500R). I loved the engine on the Ninja 400 the best. The 500R seems slower to me but I like the extra weight on the highway and is so stable through the turns. I liked the R3, just not as much as the others. I currently own a 2020 ZX6R and picked up a 2019 500R a few weeks ago for comfort and love how it looks.
I grew up in a military family and then joining myself when I was of age so I’m used to being overseas. Growing up I lived in England and South Korea, I went to high school in Germany, and currently I’m stationed in Japan. I think America is more foreign to me than the rest of the world
I think to have the CBR badge you have to bring it. I’m not sure Honda has done that with this machine. I love the looks, and I absolutely LOVE the seating position of this bike, if they could keep that and give the power of an inline 4 like the cbr600rr I think they’d really have something here
@@markpulling12 it doesn’t even have to be quite 600 power. Your license system is different than America so stay with 500cc but make it inline at least. Just something with more umph. I say all the time all Honda is missing is a hyper sport like the busa and zx14 and also a sporty upright bike like the tuono (nothing can touch the tuono but it’s my example) I think riders today really care about the ride and not all out power. Sure liter bikes are cool but how is ur back feeling after 100km?
@@markpulling12 I currently own a 2019 RSV4 and it’s the second best bike I’ve ever owned. The MV Brutale 1000rr is hands down the best bike I’ve ever sat upon. I’d still have it today if it wasn’t for a crazy cash offer. The tuono is nuts by itself so add 40 more horsepower to it and you have the rsv4.
Head to head the 1986 HONDA VF500F(2)* (depending on your country of origin) outperforms it. V4 vs Parallel twin. Honda really needs to better in this space.
Super great review! Thanks a lot :) I am in two minds now. Either this Honda or the cb500x. If you were to compare the level of vibrations on these two, which bike has got more? Also, is there any chance to use an external gps device (like tomtom or garmin) on the Honda cb500r? Safe trips and all the best!
hi sebastian ..well it actually felt like there were slightly less vibes on the cbr to the x at 70 mph...but its a close thing ..re gps device yes you could fit one to the cbr using a ram mount to one of the bolts on the top of the clip ons all the best mark

Following the theft of my 2014 Honda cbr 250 r 5 days ago on the 14th August I have already done a deal with a Manchester Honda dealer for one of these bikes. Great deal. It is a 'Grand Prix Red' 2020 model with just over 200 miles on the clock, price £5400. Plus top box fitted and £99 delivery of bike. Can't wait to get my leg over, as Brian Johnston the cricket commentator would say. And once bitten, twice shy. I intend to go to town with bike security.
Great review, looks fantastic in white. How would you say this would be for commuting in to central London? Just done DAS and I'm looking to move up from my gsxs125.

Leaning towards going to get one of these CBR500R’s for fun since the Yamaha Tracer 700 is not available in the U.S. I do like the engine in the Yamaha Tracer 700 more than the Triple in the Tracer 900. We do get the Ténéré 700 here but it is $10 grand. Would you say the CBR500R is the most fun of the CB500f and the CB500X? Also, Went to a dealer yesterday and he had a brand new left over 2018 Versys 650 for $5899 and along side it a Ktm 390 Adventure for $6199. The CBR500R is actually more than either of these here at $6699.00. Any of these other options appeal to you as more fun?
Hi yes I would say the cbr is the most fun of the three Honda's by just a small margin ....the versys 650 is a great bike I have a review on that too and that's a great price too ...tough choices all the best mark
Hi Mark, great review. I'm looking at this bike or the ninja 650. Is there a great difference in performance ? I'm returning to biking after many years away and currently ride an old Honda Hornet 600.
Hi...well it's 47 hp vs 65 ...the ninja does have a bit more punch and cruises at 70 + with less effort but if your just using it to wizz around on / commuting etc me personally I'd get the cbr ....it's a bit cheaper new ...has incredible economy and feels very well built and nice to ride ....all the best mark
Hi, i am after a bit more power as feel cbr500r would get boring quickly for me personally. What do you think about cbr650f? It supposed to be quite comfy as well, more power but less eco.
Was the Ninja 650 more fun than this or about the same? I can’t get a demo locally on either. I could get either one. In the US. Do not need A2. Good review. They both look good. In the states they are close to the same price but that doesn’t matter. I am riding for fun. Which ever is the most fun.
Hi ...well considering the cbr is 47 hp vs the ninja 65 hp I enjoyed the Honda just as much ,it's fit and finish is first class and just felt well put together..I'm a huge Kawasaki fan but tbh I'd get the Honda out of these two ...the ninja has the advantage of being able to cruise at higher speed feeling less stressed but if your happy with 70/80 mph from the Honda it's great plus it's got incredible economy ....so they are both great but I'd get the Honda :)
mark pulling Hello. I am in Houston, Texas. Flat as a board and hot and humid as you know what. I am retired and located in the Northwest part of the city close to the country and some kind of boring country roads. I would have to ride on the interstate freeway or motorway for a short bit to get to the country roads. Bmw and Harley dealers allow test drives, but the Japanese bike dealers and big Motorsport dealers do not. Any curvy or slightly hilly country side is about 150 to 180 miles away. But I still want a motorcycle just to ride around the neighborhood and the nearby country side for fun as a past time while my wife is at work during the week. I am not prejudiced as to brand or type of bike. I enjoy something that does not have a snatchy, or surging, or abrupt on off throttle. I am a returning rider.
@@dry509 ok cool ....my mum lives in Kentucky ...little town called Springfield ...good luck finding a nice bike to wizz around on... trouble is there are so many to choose from now ! :) I live in Poole south coast UK .... second largest natural harbour in the world
Hi the cbr is a sports touring position not too extreme...I found I quite comfortable...the cbf is much more upright with straight bars ...both are great bikes 👍 Cheers mark
$7000 US currency MSRP is absolutely ridiculous for an entry level bike. at least that's what Honda's site shows. new color scheme is interesting though, because i don't think i've ever seen white and yellow/black before. my 2019 is the beautiful red, with the white and black stripe, and got it on sale brand new for $5400. much cheaper than that insane $7k price tag.

Thanks for your reviews. I'm planning to do the motorbike license next year and I really look forward to a bike like that. Those Honda 500s somewhat entered my heart. I will definetely test-drive one once I have the license :-)
Yes the Honda 500s are all brilliant all the best with your license regards mark
Another great review. Cracking bike.
Thanks Mark yes Honda have nailed it with this one ....best a2 sports ? Probably :)
Super great Honda CBR500R, another great video well done Mark.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@markpulling12 Yes cheers mate, I actually own one of these and think they are brilliant bikes as documented in my vids. Great we have similar findings so great job you.
Hey mark just subscribed to your channel, love your reviews, just bought this bike today!
Great choice tom

Another enjoyable review, just about to take delivery of my new S1000XR but this bike seems to be a good commuting tool
Thanks Paul ...s1000xr awesome choice :)
This was a surprisingly helpful review/overview
Excellent review as always. Suggestion, consider using a compact tripod so we can see your riding position when you do walk-arounds. For example, the Manfrotto BeFree series tripods come with a bag that you can carry around your back while riding. They are also small enough to fit a 30-35 liter backpack. I have one for my DSLR when I travel. Other brands have similar offerings.
Ok great thanks I'll look into that :)
Great review Mark. Thank you. I currently ride a CB650R but think this bike may well have suited me just as well. Love the fact it's got a nice low seat height. All the best Trev 👍
Thanks Trev yes rode a cbr650 last year ...very nice :)
That's a nice colour

Lovely thanks ....I think the Honda cb range are great :)
@@markpulling12 Completely agree Mark. Great use of the engine at an acceptable price in all its guises. Keep safe

Thanks Joel ...yes great choice :)
Thanks Mark. I need all three. I feel some test riding coming up lol. My VFR750 of a few years back gave me wrist trouble so I've shied away from these type of bikes, but your review is brilliant. Always prefer a Honda.
Yes I think naked bikes or the adventure types are great for those who suffer from sore wrists ...so many great bikes to choose from All the best mark
i just got a 2020 honda rebel 500cc same engine like cbr500r. is amazing till now. the thing is that i have to do break in period for the engine. so after 1000km i will really now how powerfull my bike is.
Good luck with your new rebel ...I hope to review that one too

Good looking bike to be fair.
Double bubble, rear hugger, few tweaks, new can.
Think it's going to be my first bike bike 🙂🙂👌
Looking at this as my first bike, 36 years young, 5ft10, 21 years driving experience, full car and bike license,
Great choice David ...have a look at the 500f as well. ;)
Nice looking bike but they forgot to put all the ponies in it, Bhp in the 40s is a bit poor, they could have put 70 in it
Hi what a good review
I’m a new biker and looking to by my first bike. Money is not a barrier. Should I go for this or the 650rr?
Hi Ronald if you are on a2 then get this rather than restricting down the 650 but if you are full power then the 650 is ultimately more fun if you take it slowly as you are new, good luck .... regards mark

Hey mark, if you compare that bike to ninja 400, which is better ergonomics, i mean overall style aside from the displacement?
Hi Gil...I'm a big Kawasaki fan but I actually prefer the look of this and it fitted me better than the Ninja 400 all the best mark
Hi Mark. Great review and the bike looks great in this colour. Being 6ft tall do you think it would be ok for my size?
hi andrew ....yes no problem for you ...your legs may be slightly cramped ..but generally its a roomy position :)
why are here still classic side mirrors? Why not electronic ones? Like imagine having a view where the dashboard is... And ofc it would be through cameras, like 100x times better viewing angle
Looks like the M27 great review as always...
It was up by Winchester ....m27 is a nightmare at the moment with it's 50 limit that goes on forever ! :)

Did you get the bike? What's your thoughts?
Top review as always!
If you had to choose between this, the ninja 400 or an R3, which would you have. I'm in the market for a daily commuting bike.
Regards James
Hi James cbr500 for me... just feels that bit better all round to me :)
All the US viewers had a mini heart attack when he made the first right turn of the ride.
I grew up in a military family and then joining myself when I was of age so I’m used to being overseas. Growing up I lived in England and South Korea, I went to high school in Germany, and currently I’m stationed in Japan. I think America is more foreign to me than the rest of the world
@@TheBigChad Hahaha damn you have experienced it all
I think to have the CBR badge you have to bring it. I’m not sure Honda has done that with this machine. I love the looks, and I absolutely LOVE the seating position of this bike, if they could keep that and give the power of an inline 4 like the cbr600rr I think they’d really have something here
Good point there !
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 it doesn’t even have to be quite 600 power. Your license system is different than America so stay with 500cc but make it inline at least. Just something with more umph. I say all the time all Honda is missing is a hyper sport like the busa and zx14 and also a sporty upright bike like the tuono (nothing can touch the tuono but it’s my example) I think riders today really care about the ride and not all out power. Sure liter bikes are cool but how is ur back feeling after 100km?
@@TheBigChad thanks yes I rode a tuono v4 totally awesome bike !
Would like one oneday :)
I rode a vf500 back in 1988 ...I was 18 and was very impressed :)
@@markpulling12 I had a 1986 VF500F , I purchased in 1987 brand new when I was 17 :)
I'm over here in the US but if I can find one I think the 500 will be my first bike
I really like that Honda CBR 500 cc great test ride and view do you think I could ride one on my CBT or got be lower thought ask the question thanks hope you well 🤗👍
Hi Andrew no I think it has to be 125cc /15 hp for the cbt after that you can do the a2 license which allows bikes like the cbr500

Nice one Peter ....yes I remember that leg over comment :)
Great review, looks fantastic in white. How would you say this would be for commuting in to central London? Just done DAS and I'm looking to move up from my gsxs125.
Hi David it would be perfect for commuting as it's quite comfy for a sports but check out the cb500f aswell as it might suit you even better All the best mark
Really hope somebody can answer this Q: How does that instrument panel look with polarized sunglasses? We have a LOT of sun here in FL. TIA!!

Was the Ninja 650 more fun than this or about the same? I can’t get a demo locally on either. I could get either one. In the US. Do not need A2. Good review. They both look good. In the states they are close to the same price but that doesn’t matter. I am riding for fun. Which ever is the most fun.
Hi ...well considering the cbr is 47 hp vs the ninja 65 hp I enjoyed the Honda just as much ,it's fit and finish is first class and just felt well put together..I'm a huge Kawasaki fan but tbh I'd get the Honda out of these two ...the ninja has the advantage of being able to cruise at higher speed feeling less stressed but if your happy with 70/80 mph from the Honda it's great plus it's got incredible economy ....so they are both great but I'd get the Honda :)
mark pulling Thanks so much. Very helpful. I am ready to go buy something.
@@dry509 out of interest where are you located in the states ?
mark pulling Hello.

How does the riding position compare from the CBR to the CBF
Hi the cbr is a sports touring position not too extreme...I found I quite comfortable...the cbf is much more upright with straight bars ...both are great bikes 👍

Isn't it too small for a 1m80 guy like me? I'd love one to add to my Crossrunner, to get into track days and such.

So for a first bike which one is better the MT-07 or the CBR500R?
Hi Dave ...I'd go for the mt07 it's easier to handle due to it's upright riding position the cbr has a sporty position cheers mark
Was curious, what is the most fun bike you have ridden so far, one that put a smile on your face, that made you feel exhilaration?
Probably the BMW s1000rr but my ninja 636 is pretty close :)
mark pulling Cool. Thanks. For me it was the quick shifter and auto blipper and the nimbleness of the Bmw S1000XR.
Again. Use the Stabilization on your camera. It will make the video a lot more pleasant to watch.
Hi I checked it's an old GoPro 2 couldn't see stabilize anywhere on it but let me know please where it is in the settings cheers mark
@@markpulling12 The older models of GoPro doesn't have it i belive. If there is, it's in the settings menu on the camera. I'm not familiar with the GoPro 2 so i don't know. Some editing programs has a stabilization software that you can add on after shooting the video, but i have no good experiences with them.
