      Hey. I ride a 2020 TVS Apache RR 310 here in India and plan to get the CBR500R after I get to Canada. Many people suggested getting the CB500X over this but this one just feels like the one to upgrade to... Would like to know more regarding this bike...

    • @RideYEG
      @RideYEG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BhuvanTeja98 All depends on your uses. If you like taking on corners and something sporty, go with the CBR. If you'll do long trips and some light offroad I'd suggest the CB500X. One consideration is seat height of the CB500X is higher. But both are excellent bikes!

      @@RideYEG I actually don't ride that fast😅 My top speed on my current bike is 125kmph at its lowest setting. Sportbikes usually have a great aesthetic appeal and give that sense of adrenaline rush while riding. It's also a happy place to be... And as per your review, the CBR gives good fuel efficiency. So, is the bike good enough for 200-300kms on a stretch? Does the engine heat up a lot? Is it noticeable? Is the rear seat comfortable enough for a pillion? What changes need to be done to the bike for a 85-90kg person riding it to feel comfortable?

    • @RideYEG
      @RideYEG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BhuvanTeja98 Yeah I'm not too fond of speeding over the limit at all. The interesting thing about the 500 is it's dressed in sportbike clothing but is more of an upright, practical, comfortable commuter with linear power.
      The tank is huge so you can definitely get 300+ km maybe 400+ if highway. This bike is one of the coolest running bikes even on hot days so I never had issues with heat. It's not too bad with pillion but I think the 500X would be more comfortable. I'd adjust the preload accordingly and make sure your tire pressure is at a good level before taking out a passenger 👍

    I just graduated from CBR 125 which I use for the last 1.5 years to CBR 500R. Love the bike, enough power for everything but still beginner friendly in terms of power band and riding position. I chose this bike since I'm still wary to ride 600cc inline 4 sport bike.

    I have a 2018 cb300f, it is my very first motorcycle. I've never really had the urge to ride a motorcycle until I bought a moped, and then I got the itch LOL to get a motorcycle, me being a beginner wanted to start off with something I can learn and get comfortable with, and I'm about to step up my game with the CBR 500 I don't need anything faster than that meaning I don't need that temptation LOL because if you have it you going to use it love the CBR 500 that's my next step up.

    I got myself a brand new 2018 Kawasaki Z650 in 2018, and part exchanged it for a 2014 cbr500r in 2019. I much prefer everything about the 2014 cbr500r over the Z650, I keep upgrading everything on the cbr. I find it really comfortable. I had a cb500 2019 as a hire bike, and it was more cramped and did not have as comfortable seat as my bike..

    I bought a new 2021 CBR 500R last year and agree with you on your review. I commute to work on this nearly every day and do group rides on weekends to various locales within 100 miles or so. It's great for that type of stuff. I may move up to the Honda 650 R as the 500R seems to try too hard to maintain a decent freeway speed, (70-80mph.) on the longer stretches. For looks, price and Honda reliability, this bike's a winner!

    Bought one, I love it. It's a tad bit slow for me now, on the highway. But it's definitely fast enough to have fun, especially around the winding roads and stop and go traffic. It's so easy to ride, I've made mistakes and it has been so forgiving that if I was on a larger bike, I would have crashed. Planning on keeping this bike till it hits 30-50k miles. Already put 11 on it. New to riding so my insurance is a bit high to get a faster bike. Gas id good, insurance is cheap AF even with full coverage, maintaince is cheap AF. I might get a ninja 650 or if insurance would let me, a CBR 650r

    I picked up a 2019 as my 4th bike (following a Ninja 250, Yamaha FZ6, FZ6R sport-tourers). Super easy bike to live with and costs very little to run (fuel and insurance). Excellent lighting and riding position, plenty of low-end and mid power, though it doesn't wind out as excitingly as the Ninjas or inline-4s.
    My only issue was the wind hitting the bottom of my helmet, causing a pretty bad turbulent sound (not buffeting, though). I rode with the windscreen off which was better but now have an aftermarket windscreen that will hopefully alleviate it enough. I see this as a 'forever bike' as it's everything I want in a daily rider and they're well-known for longevity with their fairly relaxed engine and Honda build. The only reason I would trade it is to get a more gravel/light-trail friendly bike -- namely the CB500X. Not many twisties where I live but lots of interesting places to explore off the beaten path.

    • @RideYEG
      @RideYEG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It really is one of the most practical yet stylish and comfortable bikes isn't it? The 4 cylinder sound of the FZ6R must be lovely. After owning the CBR I'm thinking of a CB500X or Rebel since I love this engine so much.
      Would be cool if Honda took the 500 and made a CB500R, with the same design language as the CB300R, CB650R. I know there's the CB500F but it's not my favorite in the looks department.
      Ride safe ✌️

    • @Thirsty_Fox
      @Thirsty_Fox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RideYEG Would really like to see a CB500R naked/retro... I think it would sell better than the CB500F that's kind of a mixed design. I do sometimes miss the sweet purr of the inline 4 but parallel twins have that zingy character that's fun to wind out, and you can actually go through some gears and work the machine a bit!
      Safe riding to you as well when the snow clears. Cheers from the capital

    I’m debating between a ninja 300 or this cbr 500. Haven’t owned a bike in ten years. I like that the fuel tank is bigger and that it has a more comfortable riding position for longer rides and commuting. The ninja 400 also interests me as well but the rider position is more sporty. I talked to one owner and he said he’s sore after a 150km ride. An D.C. the tank is a bit smaller. I think I would spend the money on a cbr 650 instead of the 400, they’re not that far of price wise. How’s the riding season in Edmonton? I’m thinking of moving to Alberta in the future. I heard you get a lot of snow.

    • @RideYEG
      @RideYEG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for coming by the channel Robert, great to hear you'll be riding again. I think this would be a fantastic bike for returning to riding, but I'd like to learn more about what you'll be using it for - city commuting, highway, long trips, etc. If the latter, I would definitely look into the CBR650F or its naked variant the new CB650R (love that 4-cylinder sound).
      I'm a bit bias towards Honda for it's build quality, reliability and overall practicality. Not that I dislike Kawasaki, it's just that I prioritize comfort over being the quickest and lightest. The Honda will still get you there but rather smoothly and comfortably.
      Aside from the snow, riding season really is only May - October give or take. This of course varies from year to year, but an often overlooked factor is when the roads are swept in the spring. Let me know if you end up making the move and perhaps we can go for a ride.
      Ride safe ✌️

      One thing I found interesting is that the insurance was considerably less for the CBR500R than either the Ninja 300 or 400 here in Ontario. I think it's considered a bit more of a "mature" bike as not as many people start with them, nor race/stunt them (both higher risk). With my 2019 CBR500R, I get between 3.0 and 3.5 L/100km depending on riding (freeway increases use considerably... can get in the mid 2.x if lightly touring around town), which gives me a range of 400-500 km per tank.

    • @brianwiseman9518
      @brianwiseman9518 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm torn. Ninja 400 is cheaper and more spirited but this one is more in tune with my non-aggressive riding style. The cbr500r also just looks more grown up imo. Also considering the naked cb 500

Just curious if I'm really shooting myself in the foot trying to go the Honda CBR route with my height. Most of the height is in my legs and I know the foot pegs are higher up on Honda's. If I was going to buy a CBR500R, I would look for an older used one for like half the price of a new one! They are basically the same bike from beginning to now apart from the updated look which I wouldn't mind either way. You recommended that Kawasaki Ninja 400... but you forgot to mention the R3 that will in fact outperform that CBR500, even with a displacement disadvantage. I'm a Honda guy but they really skimp out on anything spectacular with this 500..... it's pretty much a budget bare bone unspectacular bike, that's not to say I'm putting it down, it's a solid machine but just not a bike that Honda put much effort into.

    • @RideYEG
      @RideYEG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The R3 is an amazing motorcycle. Definitely in the 300cc competition back in the day it really stood out with 321cc, and it definitely feels so zippy, light, and agile compared to the CBR500. Also love the twin in the Yamaha. Where I'm at a lot of the older gen CBR500's fall into the same prices as the updated one in 17 so you can always keep an eye out for a deal (if LEDs are important). Overall we're pretty fortunate to have these amazing bikes from Japanese manufacturers like the R3, Ninja and CBRs. Ride safe ✌️

      I have a 2013 with 50/50 tires, rotopax fuel and storage containers as my interest spread to more adventure touring in Alberta/BC. This is a fantastic highway sport touring bike. My riding partner had a KLR650 and we went down many gravel, fire-roads together. Where this bike falls short is in proper off-road suspension so it is only light duty capable at much lower speeds. The fuel economy is stellar! The looks, build quality, reliability are awesome. The 25k valve check and spark plug replacement is difficult so $600 at the dealer. I have been very happy with this as my first ‘adult’ bike. Well-rounded and sips gas.

    • @stevendewolfe4592
      @stevendewolfe4592 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RideYEG No, it’s a CBR500RA. I started mods hoping to make it Alaska worthy. Our test run was pre-COVID from Calgary to Vancouver which went pretty well aside from the realization that the suspension is the limiting factor. The bike is completely capable of running down gravel and fire-roads at reduced speed. It’s fuel mileage makes it the perfect long distance tourer once the luggage is setup right.
      Tbh though, once Alaska is done I am looking very seriously at saving for a 2wd Ural; a 6.0l/100km solid metal Russian motorcycle with sidecar that has been getting incremental modern updates to an unchanged platform pre-WW2. The idea is one machine that can handle extreme winter conditions (made for life in Siberia) for 4 season riding.
