Happy Sunday morning! It was inevitable that we'd eventually do some Merle Haggard on this channel, and Toni and I have been wanting to do "Mama Tried" for a while. It's a Haggard classic with those #relatable lyrics. Who didn't turn 21 in prison? Hope you enjoy!

Seriously, Toni is the greatest wingman of modern times. Her guitar playing is great, but she smashes the harmony every time, sometimes while ripping a tasty line at the same time. Been a Merle Haggard fan since back in the 60's. Love those old songs and great singing.

I play this song! My brother and I feel this song. I've never done anything to warrant getting arrested, let alone a prison sentence. Toni!!! Oh my!!! Great solo! Great cover! We played this once at a firehouse and the cook came out from the back to listen. You know you are nailing it when people are dancing and singing along. I thought I saw a pack of "Luckies" in Reina's sleeve.

This is so perfect and awesome, it's hard to describe. Toni is one of the best guitarists playing right now. Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle and Toni. Wow. And awesome vocals and guitar work of course by Reina!

One of the Mighty Merle’s best songs. Sung as well as always. Great picking. Much of what Toni is doing makes me think of a train going down the tracks. Perfect for this song.
