61 years old here. When I was a teenager back in the 1970s I would laugh at my dad's music. And I remember him saying, "Just wait till you grow up and the kids will laugh at your music too. Mark my words." Then I see videos like this. Here's to you dad.
59 years old here. My father liked jazz from the 40s and 50s, his era. When I was growing up in the 70s that music had little or no relevance to anyone outside his age group. I always kind of figured music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s would fade away too, but all these decades later young folks still spare a care for The Beatles, Jim Croce, Fleetwood Mac, and so on. I don't know what accounts for the staying power but I'm glad of it.
No one going to comment on how the guitarist played the slide so smoothly that every note she slid was pretty much pitch perfect? She was amazing. No easy feat to do especially as the song goes on and you lose yourself in its catchiness, I've been watching a few covers where the guitarist playing slide, understandably starts being shaky in pitch as they lose themselves in the song, but not this girl. Cool as ice. I'd like to learn to play slide guitar as smooth as her.

As a sound engineer do you not think the post-production on the vocals is excessively filtered? Possibly autotuned? She over-emphasing her facial expressions like a lip-syncer, and when she constantly moves away from the mic her volume doesn't drop, which seems odd. It also seems a little out of sync with the video. She sounded PERFECT. Booth vocals. It was way over-engineered for a sofa jam session, and I'm generally suspicious of her entire performance. EDIT: I really like this version. And I've watched lots more of these guys since. I'm just raising questions about the recording techniques.

thank you Sir for giving me real hope . i am 58 and have like this 17 years to look forwards and get as alive as you are.. God bless you--- Greetings from CH
This group of young musicians is really laying down a fat sound. It seems more like a studio recording than something on a living room couch. They make one of my all-time favourite songs sound great and make it look easy.
Its hard enough learning to play and sing. But to find an ensemble to play with has even higher odds. What a lucky thing to have such wonderful musicians as these young people find each other!
Sometimes when you think that today's youth lacks talent, ambition and appreciation for music as it once was, you stumble across this and other Josh Turner productions and nearly jump for joy! These kids got it goin' on - their musicianship is beyond reproach.
Well said, I hate how old people constantly attack the young for every fault, real or (mostly) imagined. I listen to little bands like this and think the four is fine in their hands.
There are ! They're just harder to find. Good thing about internet is you can easily learn how to play music, share it, find friends all around the world to play with and have fun. Bad thing about internet is good musicians are drowned in the mediocre "commercial" soup they call music because, well, anybody can play music, and share it, but not anybody bothers to create good and original sounds. Back in the days, you'd have to be really good to have your music recorded and edited, because it was expensive and you had to find studios and stuff, so only, well, not good, but at least decent stuff came out. Now smartphones and internet made it a lot easier, which of course is awesome, but the bad side of the coin is that good music is harder to find, not because there is less, but because there is way more available music, bad or good.
I've found it very difficult to not keep coming back to this one. Josh's bass playing, and Tony's slide playing are both incredibly good. The song is nicely rounded out by Reina's lead vocal and 12 string guitar, as well as Carson's duel percussion efforts. The sum of all the parts together make for an incredible performance .
Yes, was wondering if anyone else caught that - one of the hardest things to do in pop music is sing a lead while playing an instrent lead that's totally different in rhythm and melody.
@@MrGlassEater69 That 'dude' can also play guitar, banjo, bass and happens to have a great singing voice. Plus all of them put out original content too. I'd take this stuff to most of the contemporary garbage any day.
AHHH she learned the slide part THAT DAY. Ok. Because that basic slide part is fine. She nails it. The real magic of this song (the original) are the 20,000 single notes that are subtly played during the solo, most people don't even notice it. I was dying to see how she played that, but if she just learned it that day, I totally understand not tackling that. It would take weeks to nail that down. It's around 1:50 in the original song. Great stuff!
"This is just another video of some kids trying to perform in their living room, thinking they've got talent," I thought. And then, I was blown away. You guys are good... I mean, really good. I'm a fan.
No kidding..honestly I clicked on them because I thought the dark haired girl was pretty cute and wasn't expecting much but then as soon as they started playing I was like "hey this is actually kinda interesting" and when she sang I was just enthralled with her easygoing natural delivery with no attempt to oversing like I see so much of on TH-cam. And the band sounds seriously great and relaxed too, these are obviously a bunch of talented players that aren't interested in ego and have a great "feel" for each other and the music they choose to play....
Easy there, little whippersnapper... lol. Okay, maybe not "kids," although... when Reina was born I was already three years out of college and working my first job. Heck, I was 10 when the original song was released - but I think I like this version better. As the old geezer in the room, I guess everyone looks young to me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a shuffleboard game to get back to - if my hip holds out.
well done kids...i first played this song on the piano in 1973 when I was 14 years old..when my then music teacher was about 75 years old ..The chord progressions were basic 3 chords in D major with the chorus and bridge.....Im now in my 60.s and still love to play this song and have great memories
493 people did not listen to the musicality of this and voted simply on the basis of a group of what look like church kids were playing some music in the living room. Well done guys. This is actually a great cover.
@Jimmi K Pretty right, but there is no reason to vote 👎 at all. If somebody doesn't like music like this, he/she will find millions of different songs.
@@RajShekhar-jy2zi - I think it has more to do with their appearance. Short hair, no tats, no piercings, what this 70 year old would describe as "NORMAL" kids!! This is, IMHO, a great cover!!!!
@@RajShekhar-jy2zi It means that they are wearing average suburban kid clothes, have average suburban kid hair etc. They don't have a desperately curated look to show what "artistes" they are. All they are doing is playing and singing extremely well , which is obviously totally boring. They need to put away the instruments and spend more time on their hair and clothes.
I like to watch this once in a while because I like it...and then when it's finished, I like to watch it again. Then after that, I like seeing it again. Then at the end, I just watch it once more. Then when the song is over, I repeat that whole entire process. Then I eat a sandwich.

You are all playing and singing with such great positive energy and your musicianship is superb. Bravo! And the gear rundown is cool. And yes, cheers to Toni ))
Went to a Neil Young concert in the early 70s, Roanoke, VA. Half way through his 2 hour set out walked Linda Ronstadt. The rest of the show was simply stolen by Linda. I really had a big crush on her and I wish her well from here on out.
Sounds like a great surprise within a excellent show. I would have loved to have seen it. But huh? That’s what you call a non sequitur. What does your comment have to do with the video?
I’m so upset that I’m only discovering this video now. Think of how much happier I could’ve been over the past three years. You guys are amazing. Congratulations on a flawless cover of song that is not easy to cover!
Percussion box kid is a dang hero. How are all these young people so great with an older song that is guarded by purists, and I've got no problem with this. Beautiful voices, beautiful people. 1,000
Great Josh, and Reina, Toni and Carson. Gerry Rafferty was a mate of mine back in the 1970s, and I was at the very first Stealers Wheel concert where I was sitting on a window ledge in Glasgow's City Hall with Billy Connolly. I know that Gerry and Joe would enjoy this rendition.
I was lucky enough to be around for the release of the original ( I was 20 y o ) in 1972. Now, having said that may I add that seeing and listening to these charming young teens play and sing this classic made me smile all the way through. This rendition is way high in my estimation. Most sincerely and with greetings from the UK John ( aka Fossil, for obvious reasons lol )
Just found this video from 4 years ago and really enjoyed the group's performance. I was involved in musical performances for 50 years and played with some very fine bass players, but never did any of them play so well sitting so casually on a sofa with their legs crossed.... and singing very well at the same time. I was quite impressed.... and I don't impress easily when it comes to musical talent. Keep up the good work!
I agree, though the fanboys here will dislike that! :-) What is convincing me: They recorded this live! This is so charming here, it is living music, not a sterile studio recording. Of course Stealers Wheel is the original track and it was a great hit. But the original song is not always better, than the cover version. Therer are many examples, when the cover version is "better" (always a matter of taste too) than the original, f. i. "With a little help from my friends" - Joe Cocker or "Blue Suede Shoes" as Elvis version, compared with the originals from the Beatles or Carl Perkins. So if someone loves live music, this version has definitely some advantages!
Fell in love with this cover when it was released. Ever since I come back and listen to it a every once in a while. I only JUST NOW realized she's playing a 12 string
This was the FIRST Josh Turner Video I saw...little did I know it would lead to my love of The Other Favorites, Carson, Reina, Toni, Allison Young, and others...Josh - you do an outstanding job highlighting the talent around you without seeking the limelight for yourself. @@QUIX4U madre mía que parrafada....es solo un video para TH-cam que quieres?
LOVE you "kids". I'm almost 75 now so you're all youngsters to me, So happy to have found you here on TH-cam!!!
thank you Sir for giving me real hope . i am 58 and have like this 17 years to look forwards and get as alive as you are..
God bless you--- Greetings from CH
me too 76 here
Hands down some of the best slide playing I've seen in a long time. So clean, thats an underrated talent right there.
Exactly what I was thinking... And I'm kinda ashamed to say that this is reeeeally not the first time I heard this...
You're really only saying that because she's a girl. It was fine, but not remarkable.
Slide done SO effortlessly! Stellar.... as they all are!
My lord am I late to the party....my best friend and I listened to this multiple, multiple times....she put it on her play list....well done y'all....
Watch this 5 times so far. Musicianship 🔥🔥🔥
The young lady on the slide guitar is excellent. You all did a GREAT Job!
All I did is notice her. Great sliding.
Can we appreciate the slide guitarist
I appreciate anyone who takes the time an puts in the work to master an instrument.
@@davejackson595 I don't disagree Dave
She is awesome I called her lead guitar she is great, they all are.
Top playing.....
Yes we can, shes awesome
Well damn if I don’t have renewed hope for our youth. God bless these kids for maintaining the beauty of good ole rock and roll with meaning.
Reading through the comments here I'm tickled to see I'm not the only 'older' that's loving what y'all are doing with these songs. 🙏🏼
I love that the youth are diggin' up these oldies that are decades older than them!! Keep up the excellent work guys and dolls!!!
This group of young musicians is really laying down a fat sound. It seems more like a studio recording than something on a living room couch. They make one of my all-time favourite songs sound great and make it look easy.
The girl singer really got into it on her second verse, once she loosened up. Great cover.
The slick backing from the electric guitarist got her going!
I can only imagine how difficult that piece is to play but to sing at the same time… its just plain unbelievable!!!
Real music never dies.
:-)
Well said, I hate how old people constantly attack the young for every fault, real or (mostly) imagined. I listen to little bands like this and think the four is fine in their hands.
Exactly my thought when I “stumbled” !!
new music doesn't suck, you're just stuck in your taste
Got it going on like Stacey's mom.
Oh Lord, thank you. There is hope for the next generation. We need more young people like this lots more.
"very difficult to not keep coming back to" describes quite accurately almost all of Josh's videos
@@koaladelespace Right you are. I find myself searching through his videos almost daily.
Reina´s voice is killer!
Yesssss the bassist ftw! Did not expect him to hold the bassline when he took the melody, but I am so impressed when he nailed both!
Yeah man, this Josh kid is talented; you can tell he's a natural musician. The cover that his friends and him did of "For What Its Worth" is sick.
Yes, was wondering if anyone else caught that - one of the hardest things to do in pop music is sing a lead while playing an instrent lead that's totally different in rhythm and melody.
I thought he was like 9 years old until he started singing lol
That cat is a first class talent.
Josh Turner. Super talent.
Josh looks like he was having a tea and reading and someone handed him a bass and was like “let’s go loser we’re covering Stealers Wheel” and he did
Bass player couldn’t resist going to the A on the second “Plee-ee-ee-ee-ease” 😂
This is an awesome performance, all!!
Everyone's like:
"The Bassist killed it"
"The girl on the Acoustic killed it"
"The slide girl killed it"
They all killed it!!
you forgot woodblock guy
Well I am not so ure about Reina del Cid though, her voice leaves a lot to be desired.....
do you mean NAILED IT /?
The resvoir dogs....
@@knutarnebrattab6862 I absolutely love her voice. So there goes...
That's too much talent for one living room.
Better than many of today "stars".Hands down.
How are they better? They didn’t write this song and one dude is just smacking a drum.
@@MrGlassEater69 That 'dude' can also play guitar, banjo, bass and happens to have a great singing voice. Plus all of them put out original content too. I'd take this stuff to most of the contemporary garbage any day.
Hahaha...True!
@@MrGlassEater69 have a look at the roswell song they wrote... :) might change ur mind.. peace
This is so well executed, recorded and produced. And it looks like a bunch of kids having fun on a wednesday.
Sunday after church
For real!! ✌🏻
Wow…6 yrs ago and I just found this😢
The "please" 2x around the 2:30 mark is absolutely filthy 10/10
Unreal! Not. One. Mistake. or missed chord, or giving each other "the look". Amazing talent...Amazing
Love these youngsters ~ the age of my grandkids.😍🥰 God bless them!
One of the best covers of any song I've heard...and I'm an old musician from that time. Damned good guys.
Yep, very pro sounding. Great effort.
The young lass singing has a great voice. Fantastic cover.
Point for just saying 'young lass' ; ) Hope you have a great day!
Reina del Cid is the sing check out her stuff
AHHH she learned the slide part THAT DAY. Ok.
Because that basic slide part is fine. She nails it. The real magic of this song (the original) are the 20,000 single notes that are subtly played during the solo, most people don't even notice it. I was dying to see how she played that, but if she just learned it that day, I totally understand not tackling that. It would take weeks to nail that down.
It's around 1:50 in the original song. Great stuff!
KILLA-playing slide on the neck pickup of a telecaster?! Josh's bass is excellent. The whole song GROOVES!
And the band sounds seriously great and relaxed too, these are obviously a bunch of talented players that aren't interested in ego and have a great "feel" for each other and the music they choose to play....
not some kids. professional musicians
female singer reina in the middle is 31, bass player josh is 41.
they are hardly kids.
Always a great pleasure for an 63 yo man like me, to hear and see young folks playin' the great stuff out of my youth.
that slide guitar is really tight... that's some real blues right there
493 people did not listen to the musicality of this and voted simply on the basis of a group of what look like church kids were playing some music in the living room.
Well done guys. This is actually a great cover.
@Jimmi K Pretty right, but there is no reason to vote 👎 at all. If somebody doesn't like music like this, he/she will find millions of different songs.
@Jimmi K I didn't think that you voted 👎. I just asked myself why people do this even if it's only a fractional part.
What doed church kid mean here? Simple kids?
@@RajShekhar-jy2zi - I think it has more to do with their appearance. Short hair, no tats, no piercings, what this 70 year old would describe as "NORMAL" kids!! This is, IMHO, a great cover!!!!
@@RajShekhar-jy2zi It means that they are wearing average suburban kid clothes, have average suburban kid hair etc. They don't have a desperately curated look to show what "artistes" they are. All they are doing is playing and singing extremely well , which is obviously totally boring. They need to put away the instruments and spend more time on their hair and clothes.
Flawless and tight. Wow!
I love when this 4 amazing souls get together and make such nice music as this one
Harmonisasi musik yg bagus dan kreatif
I like to watch this once in a while because I like it...and then when it's finished, I like to watch it again. Then after that, I like seeing it again. Then at the end, I just watch it once more. Then when the song is over, I repeat that whole entire process. Then I eat a sandwich.
Yes allright.
Addictive stuff, really.
😂
@Charlie Brown's Dad. Happily the condition is chronic and incurable. What's on the sandwich?
Charlie arent they superb? Wow I just love it.
Guys, I hope you still read these comments. Your performance is awesome. I have watched this many times and will enjoy it many times more in the days to come. You are all playing and singing with such great positive energy and your musicianship is superb. Bravo! And the gear rundown is cool. And yes, cheers to Toni ))
I just noticed Reina's playing a 12 string. Man the sound these four make is amazing!
To see the joy on the young people's faces after they finish playing makes me have faith in the coming generation of musicians! BRAVO!
Josh and Reina are so amazing that I cant stop rewatching from time to time....
Her voice is so perfect for this cover
I can't sing or play any instrument, but i can enjoy this, great performance from the hole group!
Really love that bass line Josh, that and the slide guitar are both pretty cool 😎.
M Mac, I know, I was there and remember it pretty vividly.
If u remember the 70s u wernt there ;)
Ha!
Nice
The fact that he can play that bass line and sing at the same time is a miracle. 0.0
I’m so upset that I’m only discovering this video now. Think of how much happier I could’ve been over the past three years. You guys are amazing. Congratulations on a flawless cover of song that is not easy to cover!
Same here David. So Awesome 😎
Already HOOKED 😎👍👍
Beautiful voice. Sounds like she's from a different time
The smiles at the end says it all.
I love how she's actually stuck in the middle with him
There's 4 people, so she's not actually in the middle.

Percussion box kid is a dang hero. How are all these young people so great with an older song that is guarded by purists, and I've got no problem with this. Beautiful voices, beautiful people. 1,000

@@carolynbrightfield8911 He doesn't look so happy at the end though.
Perfect balance between the instruments, Bass really fills it out. Nice with both male and female vocals!
0:38 that first harmony by the bassist is spot on
God damn girl, that voice fits so well. Everything does
You guys are great together
xZrookie shes gorgeous, have you had a real girl in front of you?
I'm sorry, I fully disagree. I don't think the girl's voice fits at all. But that's just my opinion.
xZrookie no need to be insulting. Good grief
Shawn: It's his opinion....of course he's probably ugly as fuck anyway. And just for the record; I think she's gorgeous as well as very talented!
I found Reina and Toni a few months ago. I found you tonight completely randomly. All hail the TH-cam Algorithm!
If the world only knew how talent was in that room.
I love how at the end they are all like "sweet, I think that's probably it" easy peasy
Reina's voice is perfect for this song.
I was lucky enough to be around for the release of the original ( I was 20 y o ) in 1972. Now, having said that may I add that seeing and listening to these charming young teens play and sing this classic made me smile all the way through. This rendition is way high in my estimation.
Most sincerely and with greetings from the UK
John ( aka Fossil, for obvious reasons lol )
Just found this video from 4 years ago and really enjoyed the group's performance. I was involved in musical performances for 50 years and played with some very fine bass players, but never did any of them play so well sitting so casually on a sofa with their legs crossed.... and singing very well at the same time. I was quite impressed.... and I don't impress easily when it comes to musical talent. Keep up the good work!
I actually like this better than the original! I'm just blown away!
Buuuuuuullshiiiiet.....
@@schpukschpukeruss5451 agreed, the original can't be surpassed, it's a great cover though
@Sandy King Allen pipe down there, ya silly sausage! X
Only problem that without the brilliant original, this would be 3 minutes 51 seconds of silence.
This just gives me so much hope for humanity. Thank you all. 👍
ditto
This group is one drummer away from hitting it big time. Soooo much talent.
I have watch this several times, but today I was amazed by focusing in on Toni's slide guitar!! Awesome work by everybody!
Can't beat a group guys and gals making great music thanks for brightening up peoples lives
Fell in love with this cover when it was released. Ever since I come back and listen to it a every once in a while. I only JUST NOW realized she's playing a 12 string
Who in the holy hell are the 784 people who gave this a thumbs down? This was fantastic!!
Troy Elich The thumbs downs would be from the Aliens amongst us👍🏻
Must be fans of that love island shit!
Probably someone who didn't like the original. Or that of Gerry Rafferty, the frontman of the group.
People stuck in the middle with you who don't like it, everyone can have an opinion.
Those are the clowns and jokers.
Guys, I think you were even better this time than the last time I watched the video! Wish i could thumb up it again.
I'm going to agree that the bass player is the real star here, mad props for just chillin and cutting a smooth bass line
Gotta love the slide guitar.
This is probably the best, and most accurate and faithful cover of this song that I've ever heard, by any any musicians regardless of age group.
C’est beau d’entendre cette voix et ce son là aujourd’hui !!! Douce nostalgie 👍🏼
Et bravo à Faustine pour ce clip qui nous évade 🙌😍

Very impressive kids! Really warms my heart to see talented young people such as yourselves keeping great music alive. Actually playing instruments...and playing them well... and having some fun. The corporate music business is dead and polluted! You are doing something important and special. You may not get a mansion and cars for it but it's almost like keeping an ancient language alive. You are warming hearts and souls. Always remember that!
