Thank you. I have been cruising the utubes to find a canopy tent for weeks. AND to watch an entertaining presenter. You're it mate and so is the tent. I am in Queensland Australia....hmmmm....so am going to try to buy one. I have a dual cab Land Rover 4X4. Hope it fits and works. You are a legend. Beautiful work!! And love your enthusiasm. Rensina
Nice video and explanation of the tent. I'm considering something like this for my 4 Runner. I would love to see you do a follow up review and report back how it does in heavy rain! The rain fly is a bit questionable in my opinion. Plus I would like to know how the connector does keeping out run off from the SUV.
Yes I agree, I’m curious to know how it holds up in a rain storm also. I do think that the connection points would keep rain out of the suv and tent though.
I guess it's nice to explore new options. But I believe the truck extension tent standard is the Napier sport. I have been using it for 5 years now and it's been amazing. Set up is almost identical to the one in this video. It's the same size, connects the same way, and works as a stand-alone too. One of my favorite parts of the Napier is that the entrance is at the far end of the tent, not on one of the sides, and it has a little awning that comes over the door the width of the tent and about 5 feet out. Keeps a welcome mat or shoes or camp chair dry if it rains lightly. I'm just surprised that you haven't come across that option. I do like this one too.
Thanks for your post Andy! You are correct in that Napier is the standard. I haven’t heard a lot of negativity about those tents. And I do really like the door option of being on the far end.
Hey man, in the burg too, hoping to hit big levels/bald mountain a few days after Christmas. Got another buddy going, let's do it! Gladiator and 4Runner, let's go!
@@OJCoz how do we connect with like a PM or other avenue without public knowledge on TH-cam. Since I know you're a 2A guy, you'd like the range on my farm😉
Thank you for the video. Been looking for SUV tent with instant setup. But really looking for testing in high winds. During the cooler seasons in the desert winds are a problem. Also where would you hookup a external heater ducts?
I’ve been in high rains and pretty damn good winds but I have never experienced dessert winds.. I will say that the fabric is very thin and you have to stick it down, but that would be any tent if you’re expecting winds. I think as long as it has a good connection to the truck, it will be fine.
The last trip that I used it on in the mountains, it poured down rain pretty much the whole day and it kept us dry. But I’ve also use Scotchgard on it after six months just took treat it and keep the waterproofing up.
The connection is solid. If anything gets in, it will be because the car door or the tent door is open. Which means more entry points. Biggest thing is kids leaving car doors or tent doors open:/
Does the tent leak during rainstorms? How is the airflow cross ventilation? Does the tent sweat, as in how hot does it get inside? Is this an all season tent? Tia!
Hi cyberia thanks for your post. Haven’t had it in heavy rain but it did drizzle throughout the night and it stayed dry. The ventilation seemed to be fine but I also had the windows cracked in the truck. Didn’t have it sweat or condensation. And lastly I wouldn’t say it’s a four season tent. Definitely a 3 season
Very cool tent, do you think it would work with a, truck and shell, also have you used it in a windy storm, was interested how it performed in winds? Thanks for video Martin
Hey Martin thanks for watching brother. I’m actually curious to see how it fairs in a storm as well. That day I made the video, it was super windy and blowing all over the place until I anchored it down. But rain and wind I haven’t done yet. I actually do think it would work with a truck and shell combo. The bottom portion is long enough to cover from the bed door to the ground.
Would not a regular stand alone tent serve you better? Attaching it to your vehicle means your truck is immobilized and you are sleeping with your food, and the vehicle is no longer locked up.
@tomdonaghy8757 good question Tom. In this case it does serve me better because I’m using my Commander as a camper and sleeping in it. I have two big dogs that stay in the tent. If I was sleeping in the tent with the dogs then that might be a different story.
Glad to see your review. If I had a bike rack attached with 2 bikes, how would that affect attachment at the rear bumper area? My bikes are 3 feet behind a lowered tailgate. I lose some interior space of course and am fine with it.
Very good question Mark! I’m not 100% sure how to answer that. I’m actually writing back while I am camping and testing it out with the GX which has the barn door that swings out, I did loose half the door…. You just gave me another video idea:). Thanks brother! Be watching out for the video within the next 3 weeks!!!
You could, but it would expose the tent. Then it’s just little bit more work to set back up once you open the tailgate again. Good question brother and thanks for your post!
Looks like an EZ-Up pop up sun shelter with walls. Those shelters are awkward to put up without a second person. Also would like to see how waterproof it is.
I haven't been through heavy rain but it's held up through light cosistent rain so far. I am going to do further waterproofing to all my tents. and as far as being awkward,, it is on the lighter side. the fabric is the same as my other tents but the poles are much lighter.
It’s is, your right. But compared to a good name brand tent like the gazelle, I think it’s priced right. You can find cheaper suv tents on Amazon and trust me I went through a few before getting this one and I’m just glad they sent it to me. You’re very welcome brother!
Hi Patrick thanks for your post! I asked a month ago when they would be back in stock and he said in two months. So that would be sometime next month is my guess.
I don't know if you come back to older videos, but I have a few questions. Has this tent done well in rainstorms? Have you had to spray the tent down with rain repellent? Have you had any situations where water leaked in? I really like how some tents have super good sealing of the window sections, but they slant the darn tent on the sides. I appreciate you're given a canopy top to cover a tent for when it rains, but the problem with that is because the windows are slanted out from under the canopy, exposing the windows anyway, kinda defeats the purpose. I really like the stand up tents. Not the arch ones. Though you get great stand up space in the center, knowing my luck, I'd smack my face into the lower parts of the tent. 🤦♀️ I like how you can use this tent two different ways. I'm thinking in terms of having a place to go number 1, if you're too far away from campground restrooms. How does this tent work with mosquitoes? Especially when the flaps are over the car? I have a RAV4, so I hope the straps can be adjusted accordingly. I like the straight up tents, but then some are designed where you have to have more than 1 person to help set up. So, I appreciate that this one doesn't. Also, does this tent have double zippers tabs at the bottom? The things you pull on to zip and unzip the tent? Outside and inside? Just trying to weigh my options. And this is a 10 person tent? Thank you for your time and patience.✨️✌️
Hi May! thanks for watching and your post! lets go down in order... I haven't been through a heavy rain storm in it but I have been through light consistent rain and it has not leaked. I haven't waterproofed it yet but I am planning to soon. I think you should waterproof every tent once a year anyway. but so far, it hasn't leaked. the mosquito situation is good. even with a rav4 you should have a great seal because the straps adjust very well. It does have double zippers that you can use on the inside and out. they work very well. Im also going to take my time and clean the zippers when I waterproof it just so they stay zipping smoothly. Lastly, it is not a 10 person tent. this tent is 10x10 so at best it could fit 4 to 5 people sleeping tightly. the website say sleeps 7 but they are including 2 being inside the vehicle. I hope this answers all your questions but if you have any more please reach out again.:)
I’ve been in constant light rain and it did great. But I have not been in constant heavy down pouring rain. I am going to treat it with Scotchgard once a year just to make sure it stays waterproof.
