  • If you love camping in your SUV, but feel cramped and lacking storage space during inclement weather, the Sportz SUV Tent from Napier Outdoors might be just the solution you've been looking for.
    The team at Napier sent me a tent to try out and share with you in exchange for an honest review, so that's exactly what I've done. I was really impressed with the quality of the materials, the construction and the overall space and design of the tent. At 7 foot tall, and with a footprint of 9' x 9', you get over 500 cubic feet of space inside the tent.
    The really interesting component that I was unsure of at first, is the way that the tent bridges the space between your open SUV (using the tailgate) and the rest of the tent. After putting it together, I was pleasantly surprised at the fit, the adjustability and the connection points.
    I was easily able to assemble the tent, all by myself in just about 20 minutes. I'm also confident it would go quicker now that I know what I'm doing.
    We had room for two camping chairs and a small folding table, a cooler and two dog beds, in addition to bags and other camping necessities, all protected from inclement weather. I was particularly pleased with the awnings they provide on not one, but two sides of the tent, making it very adaptable to your camp site.
    The tent packs down into it's own bag that measures 30" x 12" x 12", making it easily portable and storable when not in use.
    I'm really grateful to the team at NapierOutdoors.com for trusting me to provide an honest review and I'm really pleased to report I would recommend this product for any of my community looking to expand their usable space when car/suv camping. Finally, it's also worth noting that Napier Outdoors offers a handful of other tents including one designed for the bed of your trucks.
    If you have any questions, leave me a comment and I'll do my best to coordinate answers with the product team.
    Thanks again to Napier Outdoors for helping my followers find a great product!

    AJ!
    How cool to get a new tent to try. I like that they encouraged your honest opinion!
    Great idea having the instructions attached to the bag. 4:43 that thing was huge. Tons of headroom! I'm surprised how well it fits around the hatch. Always wondered that they'd be a bug magnet. The awning is awesome too. It gives you a ton of extra living space. This thing is going to be awesome for you both and the dogs too! So cool you can have the awning off the other side too.
    Great video AJ and an awesome product.

      Dan, you continue to be one of the primary inspirations for making more content. You're so prolific in your production schedule and do such a great job breaking down the complex in the outdoors into simple steps we can all take to be better stewards of the land. Grateful to have you in my tribe my man!

    Thanks for the video. I am shopping so this helped. I wish you had left the setup in real time. You edited out the actual setup details and timing. But it was still helpful and I like this tents features.

      @OutdoorsPodcast  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Took me roughly 30 minutes, the first time on my own. Now that I know what I’m doing, more like 15 minutes. Pretty short setup considering how much room it provides.

    I was waiting for you to tell me whether or not the tent could be left as a stand-alone tent when you decide to drive into town. Some of Napier’s competitors have that ability. From what I could see from your set up, it seemed Napier does not and this would be a deal-breaker for me.

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You absolutely can close up the tent. It has a zip up door on the side where it opens for the Jeep.

    You mentioned set up time in comments. How long to take down for single person? I'm seriously considering this tent but fear it might become replaced by a newer model by Napier as this one has been out for 10 years?

  • @sandorszabolcsi
    @sandorszabolcsi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice review I am assuming that this would work for a truck tailgate tent as well? Only reservation on this would be the price at 409 dollars. However, I appears to be of good quality from your video with the full extended rain fly.

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They actually make a truck bed version. If you had a pickup truck, with a shell top, I don't see any reason this wouldn't work. If you look a the price of high quality tents these days...it's pretty competitive if you ask me.

    How is this in the rain.....??? Some tests show a lot of leaking. Just curious if Napier did spme seam sealing in more recent years.

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I haven't had it out in the rain yet, so it would be hard to tell you mater of factly. That being said, I've been really impressed by the quality of the tent overall, so I'm optimistic it does the job well.

    Hello. Great video and review. I own a lifted 4Runner (like everyone, Haha!) but will this work that hight of SUV? Also, i have a tire swing out, will that interfere with the setup and operation of this tent? Pls and thank you!

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great questions? How tall is the top of the hatch when opened? The swing out tire might be a big of an issue to be honest.

    You think the tent is insulated enough to withstand cold weather camping??

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve never relied on the tent itself to be my insulation in the winter. That’s what your pads, bags are for in my opinion. It’s a well built tent that will hold up to winter conditions, but unless you get a quilted tent, very few are going to offer any insulative help.

    Is there a way to attach the "SUV sleeve" without having roof racks? There's a single mention of doing it on Amazon, but nothing else mentions it.

    • @GrantSR
      @GrantSR 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You could rig up a piece of rope, or even some long bungee cords, into a Y configuration. Hook the two tops of the Y to the loops that would connect to the rack. Hook the bottom of the Y to your front bumper, or somewhere under the front. Pull everything tight. If that pulls the two side too close together, just put an appropriate sized stick between the tops of the Y, to hold them apart.

      Just in case anyone else has the same question that I did, I found the user manual for this tent online. If you don't have a roof rack, the tent also has longer straps that you can use to hook to the hood hinge or frame of your car.

      Unless you've figured out how to drive the jeep onto the Bandit, this one may have to stay in camp. That being said, could be a nice alternative when ol' Doris can't make long trips back to the midwest to camp with the Jefferson's!

    Cool fact, did you know that if your tent is white colour then the temperature inside stays colder, but if your tent is black colour than the heat will be absorbed, leading the inside of your tent becoming hotter. If you search up why white colour keeps you colder it will say that it is because of it’s high albedo which means it has a high reflectivity in reflecting the sunlight back to space keeping the temperature colder and if you search up why black colour make you hotter it will say that it is because of its low albedo which means it has a low reflectivity in sunlight which leads the heat to being absorbed instead making the temperature hotter. But here’s a little cool hack you can do. You can add a white tarp on top of your tent for the summer days to keep you cool and you can add a black tarp on your tent for the winter days to keep you warm. 👍

    • @OutdoorsPodcast
      @OutdoorsPodcast  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a cool fact but I’m far more inclined to manage my temperature with my insulating layers. Do you typically bring extra tarps with you for this purpose?

    • @GrantSR
      @GrantSR 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Extra fun fact: If you use a black rain fly, that has ventilation at the top and a GAP at the bottom, then the black rain fly will heat the air just under it, causing it to rise up and out the top. The resulting air circulation will actually cause the tent underneath to be cooler, than if one has installed a white rain fly over a white tent. This is a trick that desert people's have been using for centuries. It is also used in off-grid, efficient houses. It's called "passive cooling."
