I want this Channel to be about my experience in building my Overlanding Jeep Commander, the installs, gear reviews, and family fun. I Just started getting into over landing and I am by no means an expert in any kind of install or modifications. I want to share the fun in doing something for the first time, the mistakes, and the frustration of having to figure out what went wrong. Along with that comes the excitement when it goes well.

Sick ass gloves my guy.god is telling you to shot more😂
Lmao yup! There’s always a positive way to look at it:)
I like the tent... thinner is better to me: less weight and not as hot (I'm in FLA).
Good point. In Va it gets hot but it also get pretty cold and that thinness doesn’t cut it! Haha. Plus I have to be extra careful with it haha
Good update on the trek way….the holes might be a concern even if it were done by mishandling it, it still shows the durability and quality of the materials used considering this is intended for rough outdoor use. Great video. Thanks.
Thanks for your post Jay and yes I agree it is a concern.
I think the fact you have to go outside to let the window flaps down, is a major design flaw. Seems like they could redesign it to work like the door flap.
I 100% agree Ric! Thanks for your post brother
Great review
Thanks brother!
Hello man! I'm from Chile and 2 years ago I bought a Jeep Commander, and I recently discovered your channel. Thank you for uploading Overlanding content and mods to your Jeep. It has been a great inspiration for making modifications to my Commander. Please keep uploading content!
Awesome thank you Felipe for your motivating comment! You will definitely see the Commander on upcoming videos:)
I have an 06 with 120,000 right now (bought it with 114,000). Love it soo much! Anyone below 6' fits without issues. I just wish I sat higher and the steering wheel wouldn't be only an inch from my legs (both of which are at their max height)..
Looking good brother! There’s a couple of unmaintained roads near me here in central Ohio that I want to take my Commander down.
Thanks Gary! Yeah it’s so much fun taking her out on trails!
🗽🗽🗽
Thanks bro!!
That easord seems well made. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Jay!
I’d just like to point out that I’m 6foot 2 and I fit perfectly in my jeep commander, and the seats can move back 😮 And the jeep commander is honestly a great car! I just wish it had more power
I hear you brother. I just think in the front passenger the plastic sticks out a bit and unless you push the seats all the way back the knees touch. If that happens then the poor souls in the back seat have zero room. More power is always good my friend. Thanks for your post!
Do you know when they will be back in stock?
Hi Patrick thanks for your post! I asked a month ago when they would be back in stock and he said in two months. So that would be sometime next month is my guess.
I watched this other video about a guy solo camping....until Bigfoot crept in during the night 😮. His wife still misses the dog 😅.
lol Bigfoot knows better than to mess with a Rottweiler:)
Love it. Great video
Thanks, Jay!
No gloves?! Are you serious 😅 I couldnt think of anything humorous to say until you said that, thank you.
Yea I know, it was a first for me
Are these reliable? Looking to build one for overlanding
I guess it really depends on who you ask. I think mine is very reliable. It’s never left me stranded and everything works (except the heat went out 2 yrs ago and don’t feel like spending $ to fix it). The problem is that , mine for example is 15 years old. And the original parts are starting to break. The other problem is that some parts may be hard to find. Things to think about. But I love everything about it, power, off-roadness, roomy, and capable of going through anything I point it at. I hope this answers your question, if you have anymore questions please ask
Hi. Just wonder can you just paint it over chrome trim instead of wrapping it with tape. I don’t know if it’s going to last. Your wife sure has skill and patience. My GX got rock chipped on the upper chrome trim of the front grille. I tried to touch up with chrome marker pen. It a bit better but still I’m not happy every time I look at it. Nice work! Thanks
What's up brother thanks for your post! so to answer your question, yes you could do regular black paint. However you would have to prep the trim first. the paint needs something to hold on to so you would have to sand the trim down then paint. I used hyper dip which is like plastidip, which you dont need to prep first but it gives it a rougher finish. Here's the other thing to think about, if your going to paint over trim that is near the front or that gets a lot of wind when driving then your going to be doing more maintenance on it from time to time only because where the wind hits it constantly is going to wear down faster. that's why for me, I just changed the whole front grill with the black, I wrapped the sides because that's going to get a lot of wind, and I used hyper dip on the back chrome. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions please dont hesitate to ask.
Anyway for the fumoto to get snapped/opened when on trails ?
No because it’s protected by the skid plate. Whether you have an aftermarket or the oem skid
I just got mine in!! 🎉
Awesome!!
Way to go Omar, get out there, get dirty, and be prepared. Dig the cordless CS. Good to see the Commander getting it. 👍
Thanks brother!!
Great video. Love the adventures and reliving this one through the video was awsome.
Good times Jay!
I think my cross bars are too wide what are the length of yours?
I actually dont know and im not home to check right now but I want to say they are 42 inches,. It's weird if yours are too long if it came boxed up from the company unless the completely wrong rack was sent.
where buy this?

Great to see the Commander again, nothing beats the sound of that Hemi V8!
Yessir I agree!
this is what weve been waiting for! just got my second commander yesterday, first hemi! Big difference in the hemi compared to the 3.7 i put 250k miles on. keep up with the content brother!
Thank you sir!!
I bet the hemi gives it a little more pep in its step! Haha
@@OJCoz it’s like going from na Miata to a twin turbo Supra 😂
Haha I bet!
I thought you sold the Commander? It's awesome you still have it! There aren't many of us left with these beautiful beasts!!!
Very true brother. I couldn’t part ways with it just yet :)
Still the best looking SUV on the road, esp with a lift.
Agreed turbo
Is it true that nine out of ten Sasquatch prefer a 4Runner? I mean, they Overland, right?
You must get your information from CNN;)
@OJCoz Bigfoot videos are very popular, we should do that. "Overlanding with Bigfoot ", think about it 🤔
I’ll keep that in mind:)
Jay gets to moving in the A.M.
Haha yup!
Great times. Great fun. Thank you for the shot out. Another great video.
Thanks Jay!
Great video ! How good are these SUV tents with keeping out bugs, insects, mosquitoes?
The connection is solid. If anything gets in, it will be because the car door or the tent door is open. Which means more entry points. Biggest thing is kids leaving car doors or tent doors open:/
My dude...Rag-OH is the bracket fabricator. Ragu is a spaghetti sauce. lol.
Lmao!! I knew it sounded so familiar!
Oh man it’s almost perfect except the door is on the passenger side instead of drivers. Would be so much more convenient when you get out of the drivers seat and be under your “drivers side” roof top awning and walk straight back to get into our tent instead of now having to walk all the way around to get in plus then your not under your drivers side awning and in rain/snow your wet . They need to have choices . Driver or passenger side door opening. In addition to why they need to switch the door to the drivers is becuz of the tailgate swing. It is in the way of getting in the tent.
That would actually be my biggest complaint is that I wish the entrance door was on both sides so you could decided which way
@@OJCoz so do you know of maybe another brand that’s instant up with opening on drivers side ? I see some but they aren’t instant .
No I have not.
Hello there from South Africa 🇿🇦!! Thanks for this. I’m embarking on solo camping in my SUV and am super interested in SUV tents, only problem though is that SUV tents are unheard of in South Africa! Can you believe that!! This is by far the nicest SUV tent, and the easy setup appeals to me - as an older woman, I don’t want to be fiddling with poles and providing free entertainment to surrounding campers LOL. I specifically like the section that goes under the car, I plan to camp in the Kruger Park, and although the camps are fenced, in the evenings the campsites are visited by HoneyBadgers and Jackals in search of scraps from BBQ’ing, and this will avoid anyone sneaking up from under the car. I’ll definitely reach out to the suppliers and see how I can get one. Thanks again & happy camping 🏕️ 🔥 🍷
Hi Lily and thank you for your post! I know the tent was on back order, but it should be back online within the next month. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.
So one thing I do with mine is I have two large suction cups with hooks and put them on my front windshield and stretch cord from the top of that tent tunnel over the top of my car to those suction cups and tighten it up. You have a rack you can bungee cord to the roof rack
Thank you for your post! You’re 100% correct. What kind of vehicle do you have it on?
Thanks for the honest video. Was contemplating a Commander vs the 2nd gen Liberty but went with the liberty. The legroom issue would be a dealbreaker for me. Definitely dont have that problem with that on my liberty lol Sad they messed that up so badly to cram in the 3rd row. Think the vehicle would have been way better received if they had just kept it a 2 row. The hemis are super underrated and overall this vehicle is super impressive.
Thanks for your post brother. I hope the liberty has worked out for you. I’ve seen some pretty built up liberty that just look mean. I don’t have the problem with the legroom anymore because I took the second and third row out and made a platform to sleep on which is working great!
Thanks for the video. Im looking for some measurements. I dont intend on using the hitch mount, but am going to mount onto a molle panel using the mounting bracket. Curious as to how far out from the wall, if mounting onto a wall, it would stick out. Thanks.
Hey brother sorry for such a late response. The easord is about 6 inches thick and about 20 inches long. It would fit on a Molly. But I would think about the weight. It’s heavy when it’s fully and the sloshing water back and forth would put a lot of wear on bolts.
Mod for the straps : Drilled out rivets on the outside seats. Threaded the holes for an m6 with 10mm hesd
Nice work bro!
I've never been in love with a drunk as much as I'm in love with my commander I bought it on the 21st of July it is my first Jeep in the 2008 all she rides so good I paid 4 grand for her
That’s awesome Karen! And I know you meant truck not drunk:)
Heavy vehicle that was better than my cherokee in snow and glare ice. Downside was there was no cargo space when hauling seven. Poor mans G wagon but so reliable. Still have it.
Haha well said John. Thanks for your post brother!
Good times
Thanks, brother! I hope all is going well !
Did u ever sell the commander?
No sir not sold. Im actually planning on taking her out next weekend. It’s needed some updated maintenance so I have o my been driving it around town if even at all.
@@OJCoz good to hear man! You and extremedailydrivers are my favorite commander channels. Got a 2008 myself and may soon have a second one that I’m going more extreme with
@M1nep1ece thanks brother I appreciate the compliment! I like XDD Commander as well. He’s got that thing show ready for sure. Thanks for your post!
I was going to win that commander 😂
@AlMarroquin haha that would have been awesome!
Dang!!! Your other neighbor is too scared to take his truck on trials 😂😂
lol just wait until winter when the pinstripes are less
Looks like fun. Good video.
Thanks Jay!
Where’s the face paint?? Knox Creek son!!!
Lol
How long does it take to get 60psi
With a hand pump… FOREVER.. with a 12v pump, about 2 min
Is it easy for people to steal it
Sticky fingers can take anything if determined haha. But the system came with a locking hitch pin. Thanks for your post brother!
At 5:10, you can see a strap next to the black electic cable. My vehicle has a strap riveted to each side seat. Were yours cut?
Yes I cut mine.
The bean counters must have figured shooting a rivet was quicker than threading a hole and installing a bolt. Going to remove the rivet on the outer seats. Bolts or sheet metal screws will replace them. If it works, the straps can be removed by the next victim. OBTW there are two 10mm bolts for the seat bottom of the center seat. Have to be carefull though, cross beam was loose and it had a spring load on it from the outer seats. Once the center seat came loose, the beam legs folded forward .
About pulling the center seat, it was almost impossible for me to line up the bolts if the cross beam was already in place.
interesting, So did you have to put the center beam loose then put the seats on and tighten everything at the same time? I haven’t had to do that because I kept mine with the platform but that’s good to know for if I ever put it back on.
Got bugs ?. 😂
Haha thanks for watching Sensi!
Is that tent waterproof? People complain about that as the only downsight.
The last trip that I used it on in the mountains, it poured down rain pretty much the whole day and it kept us dry. But I’ve also use Scotchgard on it after six months just took treat it and keep the waterproofing up.
@@OJCozThanks for the answer. Is a seam-sealer also needed?
@Infinite1 I did not use it. But everyone that treats them does both the seam sealer and scotch guard.
thanks for the video... i have been searching for tips on taking dogs camping - especially car camping. I have 2 dogs about 60 pounds. I was wondering if it is SAFER (for me) to bring the dogs, or if the dogs themselves attract danger--- animals, etc. .... I am a female solo camper and will be bringing my pups but am just gathering info on what i should be prepared for... thanks appreciate the vid
I'm solo female camper also. I'm just starting to take my new rescue camping... She is a German Shepherd but I don't think of her for MY safety, I'm really concerned for HER safety. I'd never let her off lease because she might chase a deer or something more dangerous. However Her just being in my camp does make me 'appear' safer. My last dog died and I'm very excited to start going camping again... camping without a dog just isn't fun. Mostly just take a couple of trips with them and you will figure out what you need or don't need for camping with your pups. I'll be checking out a 'cool coat' for her this trip because of the heat. Mostly just Have fun! You'll figure it all out after a couple of trips.
Hi Ava, thanks for posting and watching. I think that if your dogs are well mannered and listen, that they will be more of a pro than a con. on the other hand if they are wild and disobedient, then it definitely will be more of a hassle and may bring danger. You can always buy long leashes. I have two 16 foot long leashes that I use when I know there’s a campsite super close or just a lot of traffic in general and they still have a good diameter to explore.
I hope this helps. Please ask if you have any other questions.
@@micha2023 thank you so much. we are headed out this weekend. i am definetly nervous, and i appreciate the confidence... i will use it until i build up my own ;) and im glad you found a new friend. .. I have been through that myself.... they break your heart every time. (and still I cant imagine life without a pup) thank you again ! from me and Shelby and Bruce too
@@OJCoz thank you, i do have a few long leashes I can use. i am going up in the VA mountains and so i know there are bears and coyotes there aplenty. just want to be safe . thank you again, i am sure after the first few times i will be tough too ;-) thank you !!
