- THE DUKES OF SEPTEMBER is a super group comprised of pop/rock/R&B icons Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers) and Boz Scaggs.
This video is taken from "Live at Lincoln Center" in NYC which was filmed in November 2012 for PBS' "Great Performances" series. It features the band's dynamic rock and soul revue and not only showcases their well-known hits such as Reelin' in the Years, Lido Shuffle and Takin it to the Streets , but also forays into rock and R&B gems such as Sweet Soul Music and Love T.K.O.

Donald looks like he’s having a lot fun with the Lido Shuffle.
It's like Shannon Forrest is channeling Jeff Porcaro on drums, playing with so much passion, an absolute treat watching these legends perform! Love them all!
David Hungate said that Shannon was the closest person to Jeff he'd played with.
Shannon is an amazing drummer.....The Dukes could have hired a number of great drummers,...they picked him. Bravo nicely done

The bass work on this song is so good and truly makes the whole thing amazing.
Boz and the Dukes here at it again with a rendition of the coolest uptempo beat of the mid seventies.

Boz is 70 in this video and this song is about 40 years old now. Wow! Boz is still sexy though!
He is 76 today. This was shot in 2012? He is 66 or 67. He looks great. Watched a clip from 2015. Does not look near as good. Voice is not as strong either. This song and his voice are on fire.
Everyone is just perfect here! A particular tip of my hat to the drummer for nailing the hard-to-imitate Porcaro feel to the song.
This is just a great version of a wonderful classic!

Great musicians playing on a great song, with Boz Scaggs. This IS music played the way it should be played with guitars, horns, keys..all of it. Perfect rendition of this song.

No Autotuning for these guys. I love the sound of a good rhythm section. To find Fagen, Scaggs, and McDonald performing together is a jackpot. Boz does a masterful job managing the aging of his voice. The more Donald ages, the more he looks like Ray.
Boz has says in interviews that his singing is better than it has ever been as far as him being able to express himself in the music. A lot of talent up on that stage.
Who could not enjoy a performance such as this? Pure class. These are pure Masters at their craft.

I remember those guys looking as the nerds they are in the 70's. I always have been in it for the music, not for the show. Donald wasn't planned as a permanent singer, but the people got used to his voice over the time. So they sold what they did, not what they looked like. Hats off!!!

All I can say is Boz is still great with his music. The back ups are also a great bunch to have. They even make the stars sound better.

Kids can't understand...I never knew what Boz or Donald looked like because the LPs didn't really have photos on them. I saw Steely Dan on MTV Live and until Fagen opened his mouth to sing I had no idea who he was! But the first notes...
Amazing, timeless song! How sad that this great tune has 8,500 'hits', while the vapid, no talent crap like Bieber and Katy Perry have hundreds of millions!

Yeah, there’s no accounting for taste these days! This is a great song and pretty much timeless but the new generation don’t get it just like I don’t get Bustin Jiver or Ciley Virus. I’ll stick to this even if I’m the only one left! This song is a classic!

Best performance I've ever heard of this song, everybody just popped, spot on. The drummer really took control and flat ass tore it up. I think I've watched it 100 times and spot something new and great every time.

The Dukes of September are great musicians playing some wonderful music. The names of the main members are pretty much known to all (Fagan, McDonald and Scaggs) but I especially like Jon Harington on guitar. He's been playing with Steely Dan for the past many years and does absolutely great guitar work.
No one plays and has played a Gibson like him... Thank you Jon
And how about Freddy Washington on bass and the great Shannon Forrest on drums. These guys are recreating tracks originally played by David Hungate and Jeff Porcaro and are killing it.

Saw them live at the Legendary Beacon Theatre- opened w Shakedown Street by The Dead - closed the show with Help Me Rhonda - played all their own hits and everything in between> best cover band ever

Seen all these guys in their prime and though this is a good-time show, it can't compare to their younger selves - Scaggs is surprisingly hip, McDonald and Fagan have really gotten stale ~

And, introducing, on the keyboards, Montgomery Burns. Love Donald Fagan, Walter Becker, Skunk Baxter & Steely Dan. Silk Degrees was the shit in ‘75... Boz’s best work. Michael McDonald added class and professionalism to every band he played with and sang for. Goddamn, I miss the 1970’s.

I grew up to all this music and brings back great memories of a much simpler time. I don’t understand how today’s “music” evolved from this...obviously today’s “artist” missed the mark.
