Throughout the years my interest in the game definitely went up and down, 2016/2017 was definitely a lowpoint. Lately though, the professional scene has been great to follow and overall I have a lot of fun watching it. Also makes it a lot easier to keep pumping out videos for TH-cam. Views on TH-cam have been good too and I secretly hope for a bit of a resurgence in the playerbase

[Stop reading here if you don't want spoilers for this series] This tournament has a lower bracket, so when Clem beat Reynor in the upper bracket, Reynor got sent to the lower bracket where he will face Lambo in the "lower bracket finals." Whoever, wins between Lambo and Reynor faces Clem in a bo7 with Clem starting the bo7 series at 1-0. seems obvious, but maybe this will help some people?
Insane series, I honestly loved Reynor's comeback but Clem is different kind of beast. It's been quite a while since i saw a top level zerg player became so busy to defend and still thrashed mercilessly.
It is almost as if... Terran... Was actually imba? Have we been the fools all this time? For real tho, Ghosts when controlled in optimal conditions seem like a swiss army knife against zerg.

"just make lots of zerglings and banelings" - well yes but widow mines + tanks are a thing too. Pretty much no way to "hard counter" ghosts - it can literally snipe anything down - i'm new to this game so I might be completely wrong, so if you disagree, please tell me why.
@@hritabanroy6911 ultras, sky-zerg, infestors are all solutions as well to those comps, ultras probably would have served him best in the later of these series as we saw a lot of his ling run bys of 30 supply do nothing because aoe damage, but the same supply in ultras would have wiped planetarys and mineral lines without losing to 1 tank, 2 widowmins at a base.

honestly starting to look like the level of Sc1 players. Two different games, but the scrappy down to the wire play is starting to immerge. One of the really irritating things about SC2 for a long time fan like me is that it always felt so one sided once someone got an advantage. These two and many others in the past 2 years are starting to prove that you can take punches while dealing punches back. I still prefer SC1 for the moment though, Even if Flash is gone.
@@fastmadcow yeah i absolutely agree. It looked for a very long time, beside some exceptional good games/series, very build order oriented. Besides some low economy (chaotic) games, most games were kind of anticlimactic. I still loved to watched them and now they become even better!
My boy Reynor was actually in peak form in this match, yet it STILL wasn't enough. Those run-bys were fucking devastating, but clem just took those hits on the chin and punched back just as hard until he broke reynor's nose. I've said this many times, but again I reiterate, holy shit Clem, you scary.
@@rat2244 Idk about any other player, probably only against Zerg I'd choose Clem. Clem hasn't showed great results against Korean terrans and protosses in big tournaments yet. He's still competitive in those matchups, but not the freakish monster we see when he faces zerg.
@@panner11 I would venture to say that is because he plays against Serral and Reynor frequently and therefore has lots quality practice time against top level zerg players. If there were EU players of similar skill with Protoss and Terran that he could practice against, his other matchups may be just as scary.
Man both played so damn well. I think Reynor forgetting to get ranged upgrades for his lurkers really was the deciding difference. If he had +3 I think that would have swung the tide in his favor in those clutch engagements.

Clem's widowmines won him the game. If Reynor had made/brought more Overseers with his army and cleared them out from the middle of the map in that last game, the outcome may well have been different.
That 3rd game would have been dramatically different with just one widow mine or hellbat left in the mineral line, a bunker, or even a minor wall-off to stall. I get that people get stuck in build orders and know what they 'should do' but whenever I see games thrown because somebody is stubborn and lets their mineral line die off 4, 5, 6+ times I just shake my head. It's just a few APM to put something there. Saving 3 or 4 of those massive lost SCVs and you've made the money back with dividends.
pure widow mine + ghost reminds me of SC1 Nada's pure marine+science vessel. He was averaging 400-500 apm per game to make it work, kept it up for 1-2 years until his wrist gave out and retired. widow mine ghost seem to have some trouble against mass lurkers, and less mobile than marines, so susceptible to back attacks.

I honestly think Ghosts are a bit OP against Zerg in the lategame. There's no good counter unit to them, so Terran is free to just mass them without thinking or having to scout for tech switches. They handle every single lategame unit Zerg can throw at them, while also shutting down the casters and zerglings. Their only 'weakness' is banelings, but good luck trying to get banelings in through the target firing of Clem, widow mines, Medivacs picking them up, and soaking units.
Hey, let me know if you think it would be a good idea... I'd love to see more mech style but it's not worth right now sooo I had an idea of how we could see more of that. Have an upgrade on scv (a bit like the baneling transfomation on lings) that makes them repair faster but at a higher cost, instead of 1/3 of the cost, 1/2 of the cost but reparis twice as fast, and the more scv's that repairs the same unit, the slower the ratio, example : 1 scv = twice as fast as normal, 2 scvs = 3 times as fast as normal, etc... So there would not be immortal mech, like immortal ultras back in the days OR Repair scv being casted from either an orbital or planetary, repairs faster, same cost but like a MULE, has a timer on

Are banelings mandatory? They do a lot of damage but if you use zerglings as a tanking unit you can focus on letting more reliable damage units like roaches, hydralisks, mutalists it'll be much cheaper to maintain your army and you don't have to bother with baneling upgrades
You kind of need their aoe, a good hit with a couple of banes can completely turn an engagement to a favorable one. Depends on how/ what you're playing.

Well zerglings actually gave clem a really hard time, the ghost can’t kill them fast enough, but the insane widow mine hits basically saved clem in the last game.
I don't know why more terrans don't auto-get building armor once 3-3 is done. Like against a planetary, 3-3 lings go from dealing 5 damage per hit all the way to 3 damage which is 40% slower killed and that many more lings killed and the 150/150 cost easily pays for itself. Not to mention depot walls becoming that much tackier.
I don't get it why Reynor didn't make Infestors to use the fungal growth to slow those marines down for the bane hits. I know this is like WOL strategy but I think it would have helped at least a little bit.
I don't think he could actually reasonably transition into infesters. The minerals and gas just wasn't there. The games were very much fist fights. But I do agree, maybe having 1-5 infesters to catch Clem off guard would have won him the series. Just hard to think about that mid match

Its interesting. Against any other player rn, I would choose Clem over maru. However, in a 1v1 I still feel maru would come out on top
