Why do we not see more hellbats to soak bloodlings in these positions
@@linear_timeline9362 from what I understand, it’s kind of a catch 22 situation (I haven’t watched the game yet, so if I come back to edit this comment, sorry).
You need your factories working on higher value units to keep up with Zerg remax potential, Terran production is one of their weak points so you need to get the value.
The other is surface area, broods take up a LOT of space very quickly. You can end up just soaking the broodlings but never getting anywhere.
Now if you on sky Terran... I imagine getting a few extra favorites pumping could help, but Vikings already decimate broods, so it’s not supply efficient.
It’s also ENTIRELY possible I’m just plain fucking wrong, so if some GM Terran comes in here to slap my take down as garbage, go with their reasoning. 😂

@@linear_timeline9362 I was going to ask the same thing about the first part of the game with mass Ling. I feel like if you know your opponent is going mass Ling, splashing 8 or so blue flame hellbats would be nuts right?

@@waterzoip yea the vikings were only attacking the overlords and the thors were attacking the broodlings.
In a hundred years it wouldn't have occured to me in such a moment ot use the overlords that way.
I still can’t believe this game isn’t super popular. These games are like a movie with multiple climax. Absolutely crazy.
Watching is awesome but I quit long time ago because it is way too micro intensive. I feel exhausted after couple of games. I play to wind down and sc2 doesn’t let me do that. Compare to game like league where “breaks” are built in via going home, death, walking, etc.

I'm so lost
It's okay to watch, but just not very fun to play. Starcraft only really feels relevant if you're some professional e-sporter. If you're a run of the mill player, I dunno, it just kinda feels antiquated and not really targeted at you, but instead a tiny handful of Koreans that can play all day every day. Compare that to Age of Empires 2, Company of Heroes, and Supreme Commander where there are much larger player bases because the skill in the game is more strategy related than who can click the fastest and memorize meta build orders.
Sc2 is by far my favourite game ever,I binge play it then stop but always come back,it was the first love of my life game and always will be my fav.

Getting armour for vehicles and air damage would have made a massive difference
why didn't he tho? he had the money and the time, yet he started +2 armor only near the end, why?
@@Ricardo_Rick might just be off the pressure from reynor, the runbys and nydus aren't showed all the time in the playback, but you can bet it isn't really slowing.
upgrades are easy to forget in high stress situations
@@eternalAnt yeah definitely, it's really easy for us watching a playback to be like "omg why didn't he" but we sometimes forget what a frantic high stress game this is.
Lol I lost a game yesterday because I completely forgot the 3/3 upgrades for Zerg. And when I realized that, it was too late. And that was low gm matchup. It always amazes me that some of the top players can remember everything at the right time, lots of them can place the upgrades at the exactly same time in different matches.
Man, TvZ is just the coolest matchup to watch, so much action, and you get to see almost every unit used.

Thors tripping over marines, ghosts, fungles, shooting at overlords, and spores, and broodling. Reynor forced some extremely difficulty micro on Dream. While at the same time making the broods job so easy the he could just leave them auto attacking. Not that Reynor didn't set up, and micro like a champion. I think the thors had a serious disadvantage; from being land locked, too large to force their way in, and having too many possible targets. If I was to take anything away from that fight as Dream, it would be to never mass that many thors on defense, it give your opponent too much time to get creative. Thors are huge and that mass spreads out damage output and you usually need to focus fire down important targets. Immaculate finish by Raynor.
this is absolutely not true. Thors auto target Broodlords
He forgot the blue flame hellbats. Thor and hellbats is perfect against broodlords
@@letmelick yeah I'm confused why he opted for marines over hellbats the entire late game once the broodlords popped up
the announcers mentioned that the map is not as open so causes more trouble for mass thors. I think if the map was more open it would have been a different story.

That was insane! The amount of multitasking required of both players near the end was crazy. Reynor's ling runbys forced Dreams attention away just enough. Stamina is a real deal and I think Reynor just managed to tire out Dream.
Upgraded Armor makes difference
20:20. Wouldn't it be better that the thors use explosive payload on those clustered broodlords? The splash damage would be insane.
Good question! I think the +1 range is crucial, plus with good target fire it’s easier to take out the broodlords. When the replay is out we can resume from replay and try again ;)
Let's do some math!
Assuming +3 Attack on the Thors and +3 armor on broodlords:
Javelin Missile Launchers deal 4x9 damage with 2.14 seconds cooldown. That's 4x5=20 damage per thor per volley not including splash damage. That is a dps of about 9.35 vs a single broodlord.
Punisher Cannons (aka High impact Payload) deal 34(+13 vs. massive) damage with 0.91 seconds cooldown. That's 43 damage per thor per volley. That is a dps of about 47.25 vs a single broodlord.
Assuming the Thors are not moved around and just standing and shooting, Punisher Cannons fire about 2 1/3 times as fast or 7 volleys in the time you need for 3 missile volleys. Single Broodlord dps is 47.25/9.35≈5.05 times higher for Punisher Cannons.
For the Missiles Splash damage to be worth it, they would need to hit at least 5 Brood lords on average to be worth it! Additionally Punisher Cannons have +1 range over Missiles.
Also consider that Missile damage falls of towards the end of the fight as numbers get lower.
I would conclude missiles are not worth it unless the broodlords are all cramped into a single spot.
I'm so in this videos that I didn't realize the title, the comments, just watching and getting impressed with every fight and landscape moves, just amazing!

@@Necroneer Yeah for sure. I just dont think Dream had a big enough lead to consider it throwing. Maybe if he was playing someone else it might be. But you need a bigger lead than Dream ever had against the world champ before id call it a throw imo. But GG man
@@miked3723 I'm very certain that Dream had a huge lead, Terran late game is pretty much better than Zerg late game and that's why Zerg has to usually throw two armies to beat one army, which means that Zerg relies a lot on having more map control and having more resources than the Terran player. 19:19 If you look at Terran's bank and superior composition anyone would assume that Terran wins this, but he didn't and loss the game, that's why I think it's a throw.
Oof. That last battle was hard to watch, so much firepower wasted on overlords for an incredible amount of time
Would some blue flame hellbats be good with that late game thor army to help clear the zerglings and broodlings?
That would have been worse for dream. Broodlings do damage upon impact as well as during their lifespan as well as, any money he out into hellbats is both supply and money not going into thors, and given the biggest threat was the brood infestor, he needed more ghosts not being body blocked by the thors.
@@codywotring8973 about 6 would of been very very very good. But this biggest issue was the lack of upgrades.

That was such a fantastic game, Dream made SO MUCH happen when I thought he was screwed early on, watching the end was a real goddamn treat. I do feel like Reynor just gets better and better though every year. Remarkable skill.

If people are interested whether high impact or Missile mode for thors is better against Broodlords: I did the math and High impact does about 5.05 times the dps against (single) Broodlords, so to be worth it missiles need to hit a bit more than 5 broodlords on average, so probably not worth it most of the time.

In the final engagement, only a single thor was shooting the broodlords while others were shooting broodlings.....
Dream really played poorly at the end there. He didn't target fire properly, and his Vikings were shooting at Overlords instead of Brood Lords for nearly a minute.
Still, Blizzard needs to change Thors and Ultras to be able to walk over smaller units, similar to how the Colossus does. The Thors really should be able to walk forward and just gun down those Brood Lords; the fact that they can't really favors Zerg on this map.

Maybe it was because they rounded .5 (zergling) supply for the army but the total supply was not max (200).

Dream could spare some ghosts for more liberators to keep those infestors away. And his thors are blocked by terrain and his structures.
Why do so many Terrans build Thors against Brood Lords at high level? Dream had them fight against broodlings 80% of the time and it just seems like you're relying on the Zerg to mess up.

What a game. It really feels like that lately Zerg has no real answers to late game Terran and in order to win against that turtle style is to play 110%. It’s impressive raynor got that but it was soooo close and in recent months in a similar situation it seems like 9 times out of 10 Terran wins that game
Dream definetely had the answer in theory - the last engage just went kind of horribly. I think if he has 3 or so ranged liberators to zone infestors, a few ghosts in the front with all of his thors behind there is litterally no army that zerg can build that beats this.
They talk about that around 7:40. Reynor goes up to 100 workers making his max army much smaller than Dream's. That's about 15 infestors he could have which would make a huge difference between fungal and neural.
Towards the end of the game when they are both equal on workers and Reynor has supply for infestors all the exchanges start to look pretty even.

Dream did extremely well but just needed some more upgrades and better positioning of his units so his Thor's could hit the broods

Clear DREAM forgot about armour and attack upgrades or he would be wiping the floor against the broods with this many Thors.
Attack for thors was the mosr important upgrade. He propably would have done much better IF he had gotten armor, though air attack wouldnt matter since they shot overlords anyway.(big brain play by reynor)

These sort of games confuse me. Once the zerg has a fleet of broods and a couple corrupts with, a handful of casters like vipers and infests, they always win a stand up fight. Always. So, why do they not take it and win, instead of waiting?
He did not produce enough vikings. I know they are vulnerable to fungal, have to mircoed well. But thors never could kill broodlords.

Not really sure what he was thinking. His vikings were attacking overlords, his thors attacking broodlings. Seemed like he just mismanaged his army at the end there.
I have a question. How do you make your thors NOT attack broodlings? You’re not gonna make them phase through other thors, NOR will you make them shoot at longer than 11 range. So, its either shoot broodlings, shoot overlords, or shoot nothing. Thors are fat and you cant concave them in a chokepoint.
@@snowdrop9810 High Impact Payload for thors was buffed from 10 to 11 range specifically in order to fix their matchup against broodlords and tempest which have only 10 range. Broodlords can't attack and spawn broodlings without getting in range of thors so long as you keep the thors in front.
In this specific game he probably could have also tried to push them back with nukes or gone heavier into vikings.
He needs hellbats to roast the broodlings and to protect the thors. Thor&hellbat

They should add an upgrade to Thors that has area damage effect around it so zerlings would think twice on surrounding it. Light damage that stack 10% ..

You still need massive amounts of skill and apm to win with zerg, they may have the best abilities but those abilities require a ton of micro so it's not like anyone can win with zerg, I'd say that balances them out a lot

watching pro players make bronze mistakes is just saddening. maxing thors and not buying armor and even worse refusing to simply right click the broodlords and just attacking broodlings for 2 minutes. why did he not focus t he broodlords??? the thors had the range, does he not understand that broodlings are free? My god not even a single snipe on the broodlords with his 20 ghosts. They just stood there attacking broodlings. he just A moved his entire army in there like a zerg expecting to win. what was he doing in that time? that one viking was doing more than his entire 200 max out army of thors and ghots

Dream threw that game 5+ ghosts just shooting broods at the end push and snipe the brood lords you lose the ghosts but then push with Thors one shooting broods because snipe. GG but that's also easy for me to to say from bed eating candy sayin i can do better then pros
Whoever designed the zerg are psychopaths. They are the most annoying race to watch people play against. Zergling runbys, infestors highjacking your units, vipers abducting you. So tilting to watch.

Fungal is weaker than psi storm. Snipe vs zerg is propably THE SECOND MOST powerful spell in the game after psistorm(toss needs that since eir units legit suck horribly compared to terran and zerg) the game is fair. Also, ghosts dont die that easily, and usually get good value.

This just shows how much ladder zergs like to play the victim, complain about ultras, ultras are used in competitive, complain about broodlords in ZvT, reynor wins basically massing broods and lings, and the list goes on
So, what is the sense to play terran in modern StarCraft game? Weak race without possibility of quick tactics changing and with very bad map control. Blizzard should delete from a game broodlings (return guardians), vipers, infestors, ravagers, swarmhosts. Twice decrease range of tempests and twice decrease their damage against air. Remove batteries at all or change their mana to 70 without possibility to autocast. Remove or nerf voidrays.
Also for terrans the Viking should have possibility to fire ground without robot transformation and fire air without transformation (like Goliath). Liberators should also be updated with vikings range for missles and more missles damage, also a cannon should have possibility to shoot on 180 degrees, increased range plus 1 without transformation. Thor should have a powershield with an additional upgrade 150 shields like battlecruiser also. And Thor should have 2 additional machineguns against small units with possibility to shoot independently from the main cannons. Also it should have possibility to shoot anti-air targets at the same tine as ground targets.
