Kicker Hideaway 11HS8/11HS10 install / 2020 Subaru Forester Sport

  • In this video, I add on to the sound system in my 2020 Subaru Forester Sport with a Kicker Hideaway 8 inch subwoofer (11HS8). I install it under the front right passenger seat in under an hour. Off video, I mount the sub to a 1 inch piece of smooth particle board from Home depot using the supplied hardware.
    The jumper harness that was ordered online that I used so I didn't have to cut into factory wiring was purchased in this link. It is pricey (40$), but now I didn't have to worry about ruining the factory wiring in my car in case I sell it, or if I want to add an amplifier in the future.
    www.autoharnesshouse.com/8219...
    The subwoofer fits great and the bass sounds way better than the supplied sub in the harmon kardon upgrade kit that I didn't purchase. Saved me over a $1000 to purchase this sub and replace all the factory speakers myself, and I installed dynamat throughout the car.

    Great video. This really brings back some memories from when I installed my Kicker Hideaway in my Crosstrek. I mounted mine to the back of the back of one of the fold down seats but I'm at a point where I think it would be better under the front passenger seat.

      Sweet! One thing I did recently was ziptie all the sensor cords underneath the passenger seat that would rattle when the sub played. Can't hear them rattle at all now

    for my 17 forester XT i installed a sound ordnance under seat 8" woofer, but way less work than what you did. No taking off the passenger seat and no removing the headunit. i ran the remote turn on wire and fuse tapped it into the interior fuse box. the rca i connected to scosche loc80 which then posi tapped into the front passenger speaker wire, the power wire i ran through a rubber grommet throught the firewall to the battery. i'm trading in my xt for a 24 wilderness, so i'm going to repeat this exact process again.

    The rear channel supposedly has a lower frequency roll off (from 300Hz down) with increased volume from the head unit. I've read that it's better to tap into the front speakers lines (LF- pink, LF+ violet, RF- light green, RF+ blue) as they have full frequencies output.

    Subaru and many other manufacturers have a bass roll off on the rear speakers, thats why you always tap in the front speakers!
    Soldering is always a must for a good connection, the power wire should have been pulled from the battery to the interior so you don’t need to cut and solder it again!
    Most important, an underseat sub should be firmly attached in the car to get the best bass output .

    I am about to get this installed in my Crosstrek! I am also keeping the stock stereo. As we all know, the stock system is ass and rolls off around volume 22.
    When keeping the stock headunit, will this also cause the subwoofer to roll off at that point? Or will it get louder past that point since it has an amplifier?

    Another question. Did you get the signal from the blue/red wire pin of the factory harness? Isn’t that the battery +12v pin?
    Why didn’t you use the yellow/red pin of the factory harness, which is the Accesory +12v?

    FYI you should sand down the paint where you grounded your speaker. With the factory metal sealing paint on the car floor meant to prevent rust under the carpet, your speaker isn’t grounded properly. Combined with your under seat placement which is a big splash/pooling zone in the winter time, you’re asking for a short.

    • @readyreadyroling
      @readyreadyroling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The washer/bolt spot I used to ground was already a common ground washer that the car uses if you purchased the upgraded Harmon Kardon amplifier speaker combo. No paint in that location. Since I didn't purchase that kit. That grounding spot is available. Also, the bolt is on a lip, so you would need a solid 7 inches of water in the car to get to that spot. And the drainage for the sunroof goes through the driver side. So it's a good spot to use
