  • Today we are taking a look at Kicker's compact powered, 10" subwoofer, the Hideaway HS10.
    Subwoofers provide the bass that gives the music its soul, and this sub makes it extremely easy to get that soul into your car. The beauty of the HS 10 is that it is small enough to fit in multiple locations in many vehicles, especially those with a tight fit like a jeep or pick-up truck. The Hideaway is intended for those whose factory set up just isn't providing the full range sound you might be looking for.
    Kicker provides everything needed for the installation, including wiring harness, quick connectors and even a remote bass control with mounting bracket.

    So from what I am seeing is you don’t have to use a remote wire for it to turn on and off with the vehicle? And my other question is on a 2015 wrangler JKU factory stereo what are rca or speaker wires used? Thanks!

    Everyone always recommends a large gauge wire for these, but my stock amp isn’t very large and neither it’s it’s 12 volt constant wire. So my question is can I use my stock amp power source?

    • @MrSocko-vn7fw
      @MrSocko-vn7fw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can use your stock amp wire, but idk the guage. If it's 10 guage or better you'll be just fine up to probably 600 watts. If you got like a little 300 watt amp then you can run almost any size wire for the most part. People are crazy with their 0 guage wires for a small little amp. If your cranking 2000 watts or something definitely. Then I run an extra battery in the trunk with my system and upgrade all my crap. Alternator etc. But for something like a little 10 or 12 inch with like 500 or 600 watts you shouldn't have a problem. I do recommend a cheap capacitor tho to take any extra heavy draw away from alternator. They are cheap af now and really do work wonders for the overall health of your vehicle charging system.

      You're not going to run into any issue with the gauge since the provided wires are basically just like wires. Don't let the gauge nonsense throw you off with this sub as it's self powered. You only need to follow the instructions and use the provided wires and that is it! I would recommend that you loosely set up the sub to be tested at both under the driver and passenger seat to get a feel for the bass it is able to provide. The subs itself are again self-powered and it isn't 500 watt. It's about 360 watt max! Meaning you will probably be running it at more like 100-200 on most occasion. This sub isn't meant to provide you crazy bass but enough bass to match your system. If you truly want better bass...there's always the dedicated sub route with the larger box and amp and your 2-4 gauge.

      I have two HS8s in my Silverado, one under each front seat. Only one works though. I had it replaced under Kicker's "warranty" ($75 + shipping) and the "new" one showed up DOA today, and all dirty. These are expensive, give some serious thought to dropping this much coin on this little bass with a 66% failure rate out of the box.

    • @anarky305
      @anarky305 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoubleJThe do you know of a better sub that is not prone to such failure

    • @tsingbabu8841
      @tsingbabu8841 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DoubleJThe That is expected of a 8" shallow sub. These subs are meant to run at 50-70% of its actual rating. That and the 8" sub doesn't do well when push to its limit in dealing with bass oriented music. The 10" version is more dedicated to the bass enthusiasts while running at 50-70% of the bass volume while providing a much more enriching bass to the inside vehicle. It's just as good if not better to feel the 10" sub more under the passenger seat than having the 8" sub under the driver seat.

    I have the kicker hideaway 8", will I see much difference by going to the 10" hideaway? Next question is the wiring harness the same for the two?

    • @holdthatdown6695
      @holdthatdown6695 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s exactly the same. You can literally unhook your existing speaker and plug the HS 10 directly in.

      My 8" stopped working randomly 3 months ago, after about 4 months of use. But I have the 10" arriving today hopefully it lasts longer.

    • @tsingbabu8841
      @tsingbabu8841 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a significant gain in the amount of bass you will encounter. Think of it as this way, you would have to place the 8" sub directly under the driver seat to have a similar experience with the 10" sub under the passenger seat running around half the volume of the bass setting. The significance of this is why run your 8" sub to its limit risking a blown sub depending on the music versus a 10" sub at 50-70%. I had the 8" sub installed and within two weeks of hip hop music. The subs were blown. Went back and they automatically swapped me to the 10" sub since the connection were basically the same with the exception of the fuse. The 10" sub is much more filling to the inside of the vehicle versus the little 8" sub which tries to get that room filled. If your windows are rolled down...you definitely need that extra thump to provide that extra loss of bass with the interference of open road.

    • @tsingbabu8841
      @tsingbabu8841 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bush_Baby hopefully you already got your system setup with the 10" sub and happy with the upgrade. There is a significant gain in bass between the two. Hopefully you placed it under the passenger seat unless you're a bass thriller and want to directly benefit from the bass under the driver seat.
