Wet Sanding An Entire 1984 Porsche 944 And Polishing It To Perfection!

- In this video I take on our 1984 Porsche 944 that was painted in a carport with heavy machinery paint. A match made in heaven? I would have to agree. This paint came with some absolutely insane texture so I decided to wet sand it in hopes to level it out a little bit and achieve better clarity. I started with 2000 grit hard block, followed by 3000 grit soft block. The paintwork was then cut and polished, I didn't remove as much texture as I would have liked but with further knowledge of the paint I can now say a bunch of the texture was retained in the base-coat. Over all the car went through a massive transformation and I'm happy with how it looks! Next ill tackle the interior and wheels. I hope you guys enjoy!

I can’t believe you 2 step sanded that whole car with a rid stick. There’s easily 60+ hours in this video. I use them for getting trash, not the whole car 🤯 Awesome work!
He’s got hours or colorgrading and editing too. Nuts.
I blocked off some time out of my schedule to watch this, your vids are too good to not pay attention to detail. You took your time to make it and in return, my undivided attention was given. Keep them coming brotha.
That is really kind Marco! I appreciate you taking the time to watch it. Thanks bro!
Some ppl don't realize u can even wet sand a brand new car an have it looking even better than the day it rolled off the assembly line..... dude makes these cars look far better than they ever did, some even better than when they were new! Keep up the great work man
Finally a car guy that loves these truly pieces of art cars. The body lines, the interiors, everything is for the experience of the drive and the driver. Just turned 32 and my craving for an 87 alpine white 944T is at its all time high. The love for this car has outlasted every car I’ve had previously. Camaro,350z, wrx, sti , all were fun but none have me the goosebumps like this car does… gotta bite the bullet
this level of patience and effort is beyond what is taught by Karate Kid / Cobra Kai Wax On Wax Off... this is true passion and mastery for the art ... the world would be so much better a place if everyone has this level of dedication to anything they do, honesty and truth...
I’ve been binge watching this channel this week. Great stuff, so meticulous and relaxing.
I just did the same thing to a black Mercedes wagon. I used a D/A on the larger panels and blocked the other parts.
To do this with a stick is just pure dedication or brilliant billing techniques.
Either way, stellar work as usual.
A master of framing is only one addition above your detailing skills. Brilliant stuff you’re creating all in all. 🔥
Thank you bro! I really appreciate that!
I've been restoring my '83 triple black, 944. Saved her from being chopped, 19 years ago, because of her colors, she was special to me. So now I must finish restoring this little monster, a matter of pride. I've all sorts of stories.
I hope it goes well for you Julie!
the satisfaction we get from watching your videos is simply therapeutic!
Love to here it friend! Thank you!🤝🙏

Couldn’t agree more Vincent! Hope you have an awesome weekend 🙏
@@ChromaticGaragereally love your vids. The beats are dope too. About how long to complete this process?
You are godly dude, im a video editor and detailer hobbyist myself and I'm always just blown away by the production quality of your content... always getting new ideas both in video editing and detailing from your channel. You're killing it :)
Oh man no way!! That means the most to me. Thank you so much. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Damn, you have a dreamshop now bro. Old viewer here, haven't stopped by in a while plus I changed my account's name to have more privacy, my PFP is still the same though, water beads at or exceeding 120* on my daily's trunk lid :) Edit: Finished the video now, excellent work my friend. I did the same with my 88' rio red Honda CRX Si after having left it abandoned in an abandoned house's garage for like 2 years. That place was full of debris and the ceiling putty and the concrete was falling apart, couldn't clay out all of it, there's one area where there's still a piece of putty bonded to the paint, as it penetrated it very deeply. Needless to say after washing, claying then sanding the whole car down with 3k and then polishing it, it came out absolutely stunning. She still looks amazing to this day and beads water like crazy. I coated her over 2 yrs ago and the beads are still craazy. I could send you pics of the transformation and some bead shots if you like :P
Haha oh man that sounds like a crazy job, I have never dealt with contracting materials like that stuff to paint ever. Can’t imagine. Thanks for watching the video buddy!🙏
@@ChromaticGarage Thanks for givin' us addicts the content ;)
always watching Porsche 944 vids cause it’s my dream car and this popped up in my recommendations. Quality content my friend, made me want this beauty even more!
I still can’t believe professional detailing can restore paint to this condition , unbelievable results Well done 👍🏻 man
Definitely the most criminally underrated detailing channel on TH-cam, it might take a while longer for the word to eventually get around but I have no doubt in my mind that this channel is destined for TH-cam greatness with a couple of million loyal subscribers all hanging out to see what you come up with next..
Special mention has to go to the most imaginative and original camera angles on TH-cam utterly brilliant work for any content provider but even more so for automotive detailing channel.
The only thing you might consider in future productions is changing up the music styles and tempo especially for the longer videos but it's all personal preference I guess..
The shot of the smartphone Playlist where you scroll and select a track before putting headphones on, I fully expected the music to change at the exact moment your finger tapped the screen 😉👌
Prefect as usual for polishing and editing the video. Respect!
Thank you very much!

Thank you Damian! I appreciate the kind words! Much love dude
@@ChromaticGarage Thx!
The most wet sanding I've done was sanding down touch up paint spots on my car... that's enough for me! Something like this, I couldn't imagine doing. Credit where credit is due... this is awesome! Once I get settled into the Air Force, hopefully I'll be near Cambridge, England, I'll get a cafe racer bike (probably a Royal Enfield Continental GT) and make some videos for YT about it.
Heck yeah man! Sounds like an rad idea. Those bikes are way too cool. Appreciate the kind words 🙂🖤
Some of your best word work I heard was done when it was wet......great job on the car, came out fabulous
Thanks Mike! Wait till you see what I can do in the dark and wet haha
The best detailer on TH-cam. His work and the videos are a masterpiece
There’s no way of upvoting it more. Fantastic work with the car and the edit.
I’m going to write a stern letter to TH-cam demanding a multi-mega-upvote is put in place and utilised… immediately.
Hahaha thank you bro!! Way too nice 😭😭😭
What can I say , Chromatic back at it, that Porsche look like it was repainted, and not finished out, but bruh you brought the shine back and made the paint the way it should have been, 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper, did the trick, yea that paint didn’t lay flat when they painted , but it came out like it was just painted, The music tracks in background on point.
🤜🏽🤛🏽👏🏽👍🏽💯🔥
Question for you after sanding with 2K did you go same direction sanding with 3K ???
Thank you bro! I appreciate you checking out the video! And yes, sanding in the same direction the whole time. Sometimes I went horizontal because I was tired haha
@@ChromaticGarage thanks for tip
The result is incredible! Fantastic work mate!
Thank you bro!!
That’s absolut top of all!!! Mate, insane work and the result is stunning!!!!
Thank you Hansjörg!! Hope all is going well with you!
Absolutely stunning work dude. You are a true master of your craft. Love from a driveway warrior in Ireland.
Thank you George! Much love from Canada!
Can’t even imagine how much time went into this and the video, awesome as always man.
Haha this one was quite tough man! I appreciate you watching!!
Magnificent work with the incredible result! Thanks for the video! I've got new knowledges
Thank you Aleksandr! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🖤🙏
Just did this whole process to a boat. It took forever but worth it. The shops wanted $4500, cost me $500 including Dewalt buffer.
wow, so mesmerising! watched the entire video.. ...UNDERRATED car btw.
Absolutely love wet sanding, gives it that mirror finish
Agreed man! Way easier than just cutting
@@ChromaticGarage and safe
Holy crap man. This was no joke with these single stage paint types. Nice work! Wish I could have you do my 944. I thought I had mine looking good…that was next level.
bro.. please teach me your ways on sanding, polishing, and editing 🥲
Haha you keep asking imma have to come down there and get a gym membership!
@@ChromaticGarage yes prepare your money bro !!!!! :-)
What an incredible wrok ! Spectacular brother, as always
Thank you bro! Appreciate you!
Underrated detailer
Thank you Ainul! Appreciate you!
I've been looking forward to this all week. 😍

Bro this dude underrated

Great job. Your patience is incredible. Paint looks really good.
Holly Molly, You wet sanded the whole car whit these small blocks!! Man~! You have a lot more time on Your hands then i do ! ;-)- lol! Came out Awesome and Great video as always!
Hahaha thanks man!
The second time I'm watching this video. Awesome video 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for the support bro!!🤝🙏🙏
Wow ironic when I got my 84 guards red the paint was so badly orange peeled because previous owner got screwed on his paint job I also wet sanded and polished out the entire car. Made a few videos as well and it came out amazing. Awesome video and car
Impressive work my guy. Very well done!
Thanks Eric!🖤🙏
Your cinematic shots are beautiful
Well done 👏🏻 it takes skill to produce quality like this ❤️
The patience is crazy bro, I could never
You could bro! I believe in you 🥺
Wow… what a transformation! It looks stunning
I’m hesitant to use the wool pads cuz I’m not that experienced yet but the results they give is ridiculous man. Well done
They’re my favourite in the DA! Thanks bro!
came for the detailing..stayed for the cinematography!
Thanks buddy! Appreciate that!
Excellent vid sir simply the best on the tube 🔥
Thank you Jamie!!🤍🤍🤍
Sitting down like a kid at school. Praise!
An alternative to wet sanding that is very effective, and much safer for a single stage paint is to use Comet cleaner. Wet the surface, spread the comet liberally and use a terrycloth or sponge. The abrasive action will pull away oxidization and light surface swirling. Then, use maguires #7. Liberally coat the surface and leave overnight and then rub off. Do this a couple of times. Just another approach for folks who don't want to risk wet sanding.
Never heard of this!
What's the risk in Wet Sanding? How's the abrasive paste any safer or different from 2k / 3k wet sanding if both methods achieve the first stage of paint correction?
Black looks great when it is clean, trying to keep it clean is the hard part.
Haha definitely! As with most colours. Best to have one for each day of the week
Love the videos brother!..background music and outfit on point!
Thank you Frank! Appreciate that!
Dang, those 2K scratches buffed out clean!!! Nice job, bro!!
Not bad man! Fast correcting cream knows how to get down 🥺
Man... Fast correcting cream finish so damn well
FCC and TLC are the goats
Yeah man it’s pretty crazy! Most of the time polishing is obsolete haha
In the beginning the unsuspecting might go "why the hell is he sanding the paint"? The results speak for themselves. Great job man.
Love those Saucony shoes!
Amazing transformation!
Thank you Tai! Hope all that knowledge is still treating you well
Amazing work as always, keep it up man
Thank you bro!😀😀
Was just searching for this on a 944 yesterday, amazing
I felt the energy. Haha thanks for checking it out
Been thinking about doing this to my 2005 BMW X5. But also thinking, I can’t do that. So I end up procrastinating. Now after watching this video I know…I can’t do that.
Although it would look beautiful when I’m finished. As you can see…still procrastinating. Great video though. My hats off to you sir.
Hahaha my brain also works this way about most things. I think you could do it, but maybe you shouldn't. Maybe it wouldn't look how you thing kit would. Best to not do it! Thanks Tony!
Chromatic Garage hahaha, you read my mind.🤷🏻♂️
Dang nice job, wish I could get my 1997 black Boxster to look like that!
Great video, well edited and good Soundtrack. Any particular reason why you used such a small wet standing block on the whole car instead of a palm sized one on areas like the hood and side panels ?
Great work as always! Love the videos and content. Some people will never understand the patience that goes in to our profession!
Great job mate. I wish you could extend the shooting of the final product and also more comparison with the raw state
Haha yeah man I need to get better at this! I am always so tired by the end. I’ll work on it. Appreciate you!
You are so good at your job. I wish there would be many more of your worksz
Astonishing job!
Thank you bro!🙌
They paint it with a roller? Hats off to u for making it look alot better..
Absolutely amazing 👏
Awesome video as always brother!!
Thank you Tony!! I hope all is well with you man!
As always bru, brilliant editing and the car turned out amazing. Great job.
Thank you bro! Hope all is well!
Absolutely incredible work 😍
Thank you John!!
Holy cow, did you bring life back to that paint.
Thanks Bill! Pretty happy with how it looks now
that is really amazing. I love it. Gooood job! I still wonder though why is it always Rupes. Is it really better than other good ones?
The white floors really brightened things 👌🏽
Thank you! I’m really enjoying them thus far
What a difference! Great job.
Thank you bro! Hope all is well with you 🤝🖤
Looks insane dude!!
Cannot imagine how many hours went into this! 👊🏼
Thank you bro!
Its just amazing!!! Great work!
Smurf here checking in!
Cheeeers Smurf!🙏😎
Tolle Arbeit ! Sah aus, als ob es auch für dich wie Entspannung war.
A piece of masking tape rolled into a sharp point helps with doing touch ups to the edges. Sometimes the brush can make it much messier than it needs to be. Just FYI great video as always 👍🏽
Thanks dude! Great tip! I have other tools for application but man that ding on the door is absolutely in the repaint category haha. Nothing was going to help it otherwise
@@ChromaticGarage haha it really was man. But you brought that car back to life regardless!
Great video and great result 👍
Thanks Andrew!🙏🙏
Incredible work as always
Thank you Peter! Much love 🙏🤝
Love me some Dylan Sitts. Soundtrack is perfect
Awesome transformation! There's only so much you can do with such a criminal paintjob, but it came out way better. A shame really somebody decided to ruin a 944 like that.
My thoughts exactly haha. Actually really frustrating To see but unfortunately it’s the norm with most of these 80s-90s cars we love now
I completely agree. My 944 is currently being sanded to metal in most places because of a rattle can paint job and some really poor collision repair work. Not saying a rattle can job cant be good, but this one is peeling on the whole entire top layer.
Edit: The paint job was done with most trim and parts removed. So the owner did care greatly to an extent it just wound up in a bad way.
you must be crazy to sand the whole car with a block smaller than a finger :DDDD
Haha lil crazy. But I had fun I promise!
great job! Did you use a paint gauge before starting on this car? Aren't these cars single stage from factory? Would think almost 40 years makes it kind of dangerous to sand like you did
It's always so amazing your work ❤❤❤
Thank you my friend!!🖤🖤🖤
Love your process. Awesome work !
How do you deal with the lower parts of the car ? because I didn't saw a car lift.
Looking really good! Thinking about wetsanding mine too
Thanks man!! It definitely allows you to remove almost all “defects” that’s polishing doesn’t. Dooo it😎
and again nice video buddy! its 05:01 and i watching this masterpiece😂
Hahahaa amazing. Thanks for the sacrifice Ruslan!
Your crazy bro. The whole car with a dang rid stick? 🤯
Any chance of dropping a spotify playlist link? Always coming through with pure delights on these videos haha
I watched the video very well!! Can you tell me the compound information? Is the type of compound a one-step compound?
Great job!! Great video thanks!!
Griots killed that porche paint!!!! I notice you didn't use the rupes polishes, how does the griots compare to oberk? What are your top 3 compounds? What are your top 3 polishes? Thanks again, awesome work!!!
Awesome results bro
The hard work always pays off 💪🏻 well done bud. Have you seen the new Gyeon ceramic coatings? It’s next level stuff 🥶
Thank you dude! Didn’t they just change the multilayer base coats to a single coat for the most part? Haha
Wow! That was a terrible respray, that I knew you would improve on, but holy crap, you made it amazing. As always, congratulations on the incredible end result. You really are a master of your craft! 👍🇨🇦
Thanks man! Done in a carport haha. Probably could have been even worse
do you need to decontaminate with the clay bar before wet sanding?
I would have given up after 30 minutes. Haha. Great video!!!
Lixamento perfeito , parabens pelo trabalho
No alcohol prep before SiO2?
Great job and finish, just some real classy filming and soundtracks!!
Thanks buddy! And no sir, not for this
Oh yea now I remember why I subbed.
Satisfaction.
