Wet Sanding An Entire 1984 Porsche 944 And Polishing It To Perfection!

  • In this video I take on our 1984 Porsche 944 that was painted in a carport with heavy machinery paint. A match made in heaven? I would have to agree. This paint came with some absolutely insane texture so I decided to wet sand it in hopes to level it out a little bit and achieve better clarity. I started with 2000 grit hard block, followed by 3000 grit soft block. The paintwork was then cut and polished, I didn't remove as much texture as I would have liked but with further knowledge of the paint I can now say a bunch of the texture was retained in the base-coat. Over all the car went through a massive transformation and I'm happy with how it looks! Next ill tackle the interior and wheels. I hope you guys enjoy!

    • @joetaylor1089
      @joetaylor1089 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree. My 944 is currently being sanded to metal in most places because of a rattle can paint job and some really poor collision repair work. Not saying a rattle can job cant be good, but this one is peeling on the whole entire top layer.
      Edit: The paint job was done with most trim and parts removed. So the owner did care greatly to an extent it just wound up in a bad way.

    Definitely the most criminally underrated detailing channel on TH-cam, it might take a while longer for the word to eventually get around but I have no doubt in my mind that this channel is destined for TH-cam greatness with a couple of million loyal subscribers all hanging out to see what you come up with next..
    Special mention has to go to the most imaginative and original camera angles on TH-cam utterly brilliant work for any content provider but even more so for automotive detailing channel.
    The only thing you might consider in future productions is changing up the music styles and tempo especially for the longer videos but it's all personal preference I guess..
    The shot of the smartphone Playlist where you scroll and select a track before putting headphones on, I fully expected the music to change at the exact moment your finger tapped the screen 😉👌

      DA polishers pretty much eliminate holograms all together. And an earthy compound like FCC that breaks down very slow

    An alternative to wet sanding that is very effective, and much safer for a single stage paint is to use Comet cleaner. Wet the surface, spread the comet liberally and use a terrycloth or sponge. The abrasive action will pull away oxidization and light surface swirling. Then, use maguires #7. Liberally coat the surface and leave overnight and then rub off. Do this a couple of times. Just another approach for folks who don't want to risk wet sanding.

      What's the risk in Wet Sanding? How's the abrasive paste any safer or different from 2k / 3k wet sanding if both methods achieve the first stage of paint correction?

    You have a crazy amount of patience to sand this by hand. I just resprayed my E36 and did most of the color sanding with a DA sander. The critical things were done by hand. But I would probably do the same if I had a nice car with original paint. How many hours do you estimate that this took you?

    Damn, you have a dreamshop now bro. Old viewer here, haven't stopped by in a while plus I changed my account's name to have more privacy, my PFP is still the same though, water beads at or exceeding 120* on my daily's trunk lid :) Edit: Finished the video now, excellent work my friend. I did the same with my 88' rio red Honda CRX Si after having left it abandoned in an abandoned house's garage for like 2 years. That place was full of debris and the ceiling putty and the concrete was falling apart, couldn't clay out all of it, there's one area where there's still a piece of putty bonded to the paint, as it penetrated it very deeply. Needless to say after washing, claying then sanding the whole car down with 3k and then polishing it, it came out absolutely stunning. She still looks amazing to this day and beads water like crazy. I coated her over 2 yrs ago and the beads are still craazy. I could send you pics of the transformation and some bead shots if you like :P

    Finally a car guy that loves these truly pieces of art cars. The body lines, the interiors, everything is for the experience of the drive and the driver. Just turned 32 and my craving for an 87 alpine white 944T is at its all time high. The love for this car has outlasted every car I’ve had previously. Camaro,350z, wrx, sti , all were fun but none have me the goosebumps like this car does… gotta bite the bullet

    I’ve been binge watching this channel this week. Great stuff, so meticulous and relaxing.
    I just did the same thing to a black Mercedes wagon. I used a D/A on the larger panels and blocked the other parts.
    To do this with a stick is just pure dedication or brilliant billing techniques.
    Either way, stellar work as usual.
