    UPDATE:: So turns out you are suppose to use the plastic/foam block from the original packaging inside the carry bag. Wrap the wire around and seat them in the foam. OR remove the foam and just have the plastic ring to protect from crushing and lost tips.

      So turns out you're supposed to have heard the IE800's before reviewing these... Imagine these with slightly less soundstage, better mids, better isolation, and more comfortable. Not to say there aren't issues: there is cable noise and the cable isn't detachable, but it's worth it. Also, you don't look like Spiderman in public and you can use them laying down.

    I got my 20's about 2 weeks ago and was blown away with the sound coming from these things but I too had problem with ear pain. It may not bother everyone but I wear them for almost 20 hours a day. I am disabled so listening to music and watching tv with them is basically my life. I had decided to put a thin piece of adhesive foam on the area that hurt my ears and then seeing you did the same thing confirmed my idea. Once I got the foam on, my ears were so happy. I would like to see audeze address this though because when you pay $550, you shouldn't have to deal with a comfort problem.

    btw , i sold my ie800 after the iSine :)

    • @hassabsaeed9993
      @hassabsaeed9993 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not sure if it is EQ setting or synergy with cable but i saw some people in head-fi mention that it is an EQ , the bass is better in quality , integration with mids smoother , the whole sound is different to me , feels more balanced , i don't know how to explain it clearer , but i prefer the cypher cable over external amp , maybe not 10 times better but it is notable improvement to my ears , at least in comparison with the Mojo..

      Cables in itself doesn't change sound. Or atleast you can't prove it by physical laws.

    • @veldin25
      @veldin25 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      VaoDxArchAngel a cable can act as a low pass filter. Lowering cable resistance and capacitance will raise the cutoff frequency. Unlikely to make a large difference because it's probably in dog whistle territory, but there is an electrical mechanism for ya

    • @RojasTKD7
      @RojasTKD7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      VaoDxArchAngel The Audeze cipher cable most certainly can change the sounds as it plugs directly into Apple devices lightning port and had a built in DAC/AMP that delivers Audezes specifically tuned sounds. I think there's an app that goes along with it that allowed you to trailer the EQ to your liking. that EQ is stored in the cipher cable and it kept when you switch from device to device.
      I hope the maker a cipher cable for USB C devices in the future.

    Bought them. Excellent sound and very convenient with the cipher cable. I ordered the $10 "Groovy Kit" from Audeze which comes with larger ear hooks and upgraded tips. I hope it helps with comfort issues. I really like the fact that they sound great even without a perfect seal that you have to achieve with other in-ears by jamming them into your ear canal. Also, these are great for using at work where you need to be able to hear other people around you. Thanks Zeos.

    Just got the iSine 10s and they once get the proper tips, figure out how to put them on (watch Audeze's video) amd adjust to the sound.... THEY ARE REALLY REALLY good.
    You get there openness and encompassing sound unlike anyother IEM, but there still an intimacy to the sound where vocals don't sound far away.
    I like there better than my previously owned Shure SE 846 or JH Audio Roxanne's, and those are considerably more pricey.

    • @williamcatalano1762
      @williamcatalano1762 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you need an amp with these or can a regular ipod touch without the cable push these good enough? I have a LG v 20 phone and an older ipod touch.

    • @RojasTKD7
      @RojasTKD7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Catalano They can be driven OK or of s phone or iPod, but like anything else will sound better with good equipment. I don't know about the iPod, but there V20 has some pretty advanced audio chops for a phone. They should both do a decent job driving the iSine.
      The iSine drying 24 ohms won't trigger the V20's high power mode, so one of those high impedance adaptors to trick the V20 into high power mode might help the iSines deliver an even more punchy sound. But that's just a guess, as planar's usually liked some extra current, and that may or may not apply the the iSines.

      I have M1060's and isine20's. I returned the iSine's, kept my m1060's. If you want a in ear planar magnetic, buy the monolith knockoff. They will be built about the same. Don't be fooled by the isine's appearance, they feel very brittle and cheap, made mostly from plastic. If you want a better planar, I'd instead save for a LCD. I have a LCD-3, love them.

    Hey Z, loved the review. I've got a pair of i20s and I've been in love with them since picking them up. The cypher cable is seriously magic for what it is - it's too bad you didn't have a way to test it. For $50, it's got a DSP and a multi-band EQ where you can save your preferred EQ presets to the cable for use between devices. It also has some baked-in EQ settings (I think maybe a 4 kHz boost or something), but whatever they are, it is a world of difference between the 3.5 cable and the lightning cable.

    • @jonoprill

      If you mean the Tin Hifi, they have much better bass, are way easier to drive, and are much wider sounding. The P1 is very concentrated and intimate.
      Though, I personally use EQ adjustment for the iSines using the auto function in the wavelet app.

    After selling my HE-560s I have missed the planar magnet signature (currently have SE-846 & HD800S) but the weight definitely isn't missed. I actually use the SE-846s about 80% of the time now but the sound stage is no where near as wide as the 800S (obviously being sealed) which makes them better for movies and TV shows. Hopefully, these will fit somewhere in the middle.
    Ordered the iSine 20s today after this review, very surprised you praise them so highly and the comfort must be good if you can have them in basically for a full day.

    • @martyp2138
      @martyp2138 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      UPDATE: Got these today (thanks Amazon Prime). Unplugged the SE-846s and put these in to my HA-1, OMG... I didn't think something could sound this good for the money. It is like actually being there listening to live recordings and they give that same experience to normal recordings too.
      Running Ghz Midside and CanOpener Studio plug-ins on the audio chain takes them to a whole new level all together. I am in love with these!! Thank you Zeos.
      Going to get a decent custom cable (stock one is a bit meh) and some Comply tips for them to finish them off.

    • @lonestar1664
      @lonestar1664 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have also SE846 are they really sound better than SE846?

    • @martyp2138
      @martyp2138 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In short, yes. However, it will depend on what you listen to. The SE846s are bass monsters and also noise isolating, I use the treble filter to brighten them as much as possible as I find them quite dark.
      The air/transparency when using the i20s is just incredible. They do have some good bass to be honest just not quite as impactful as the SE846. The i20s sound just as good - perhaps better than - my HD800S however, they leak sound and aren't great in noisy environments.
      I just plugged the SE846s in the Mojo with the i20s (so same-ish volume) and swapped over listening to a song and it didn't take longer than a few seconds to say the i20 win imo.
      To be honest, I am considering selling my 800S and HA-1 and just pre-order the LCD i4s, the HA1 is overkill for driving IEMs and I don't see a reason to use the 800S anymore... How the i4s could be 3x better for the money I'm not sure however, with the SE846 and these in the Mojo I'm in just left gob smacked and definitely suffering from the upgraditis lol.
      To be clear, I bought the SE846s to isolate noise and be a decent travel companion and to be a fun set of IEMs. The i20s I bought to revive the planar sound at home, not expecting all that much due to the cost and they have just blown me away. If you can audition them, or buy direct from Audeze on the 30-day trial (not an option for me in the UK) - I doubt you will be disappointed.

    • @lonestar1664
      @lonestar1664 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your detailed response, at half the price they sound like bargain not sure how much the sound leak is if commuting in trains or sitting next to colleague in an office

    • @martyp2138
      @martyp2138 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It really depends how loud you want to listen to your music, personally if I sat beside someone in a train they'd probably get annoyed. In an office, its more of a distance so would probably work well.
      Slightly off topic however, plugged my HD800S in to the Mojo after 6 days of listening to solely the i20s and they are going up for sale. No comparison, the i20s sound so much better to me - seriously tempted to get the LCD-i4s these sound end game for me... The i20s are a serious bargain however, a custom 3.5mm cable is a must as the standard one is awful - cheap fix though!

    I have the iSine 10. My ears are still getting acclimated to the Audeze house sound, I am more of a Sennheiser fan boy. But I really do love these. I hear details in my songs I have never heard with any of my other headphones. The sub bass is great, IF you twist them into your ears like you said (are you listening John Jameson?).
    The mids are luscious and lovely and the treble is amazing, such clarity and detail!!!!!
    BUT, for home listening connected to my Valhalla 2, or my HA2SE, HD 600 and HD 650 are still my all-time favorite headphones.

    Excellent review as usual Z. My iSine 10 was the only "headphone" that managed to unseat my M1060 from being my daily driver. It is liberating to enjoy such sound quality on-the-go or at work. The M1060 still has the edge in being fuller sound with excellent sub-bass (Modded with Veggie pads and paper towel). I think owning both would be the end-game for those who want to enjoy music/movies/games anywhere.

    There's an eq profile built into the cipher cable even with the eq app set to flat. It's quite v-shaped, the eq was posted in the head-fi thread for the isines. Post #1250 I think, page 80-and-something. I use it in EqualizerAPO with my Aune x1s, I find it superior to the cipher cable, which I again find superior to anything without eq.
    Difference with eq/cipher: In short, way airier sound, better imaging, cleaner, punchier bass. When I turn the eq off, I feel like the sound has a weird resonance or something, and sounds muddy and congested.

    I am using the same setup, the fiio x5 in balance and the 20s.
    When my friends and I was testing them. It is clearly the 20 where way better. The bass and highs are more extended.
    The lighting cable also make them way so much better, because somehow audeze put some kind of dsp in them. I have try the balance and unbalanced for me clearly better in balance. Sound closer to the lighting cable.
    All in I end up picking them up over the JH audio $1800 iem.

    I purchased the 10s and played them on a LG V20. I was ready to return them because i did not like the sound and was surprised given Audeze's reputation. Then I found some EQ information for them and WOW! End game. Heavy EQ is required for them to sound good, but don't miss it. If you like them without the EQ (non-apple cable), seriously have your hearing checked. Only problem is finding ways to apply EQ all the time.

    These really deserve all the acclaim they are getting. I have both the LCD-2 (pre-fazor ~2013) and the LCD-4 and in my opinion these (the i20s) are actually better overall than my LCD2. They do have very present and tight bass. They have excellent detail, better in the treble and upper mids than my LCD-2. They really sound like a full open-end headphone, they also seem to be extremely forgiving as they will play recordings that aren't sourced perfectly just as effortlessly as FLAC, which is really good for mobile/iphone listening. They come with various bracket sizes for support, and after some switching I was able to get them to fit to a point where I don't even notice they are on my ears. The dac/amp is a little heavy pulling on the IEMs but there is a clip included to clip to your shirt. I don't know if you can comfortably go jogging in them with the amp (not tried yet) but with the regular cable its no problem.

    Looks like the "standard" grey Comply foam tips. Which are really good, honestly. They sound way better than the silicone tips, way less sound leakage and the foam deals with the bass better. Hopefully Comply will make compatible tips for these.

    i know these units are older models now, but the question is still relevant as seen in your recent LCD-i3 review, namely "how do people have such divergent views on whether these rly sound good or simply MUST have the CIPHER eq correction," even though the latter means I limit my listening library to the limited & lower resolution of the cipher unit.

    I'm almost tempted to send you my SE846's, custom JH 13v2's, and custom Roxanne's (and hope they fit somewhat decently) just so that you can see how much better it gets for in-ear headphones (and yes, I'm pretty sure Shure's website calls them headphones, whereas the JHs are obviously CIEMs)

    • @RojasTKD7
      @RojasTKD7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been doing a lot of reading and many people have mentioned they prefer these over the SE846, because they just don't sound like IEMs. Of course other will still prefer the SE846, but the face they can even compete at a much lower price point says something.
      I just ordered the 10s and owned the SE846 and Roxanne's in the past, so I guess I'll find out.

      RojasTKD7 Curious. I snagged a pair of the iSine 10's during Audeze's Black Friday sale, so I'll let you know what my impressions are when I get them! Since my last comment I've acquired the Vega (and then sold them within two weeks of getting them because they really didn't touch my Roxannes in terms of technical ability or comfort).

    • @svk_7
      @svk_7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +SMI_e +ZReviews Just got my Black Friday (surprisingly new, not refurbished) iSine 10s in today. MacBook Pro -> Chord Mojo -> 3.5mm. I would say - in comparison to the SE846s - they sound ... different. They definitely offer a more open sound (surprise, surprise) than the SE846s. I wouldn't say they sound *better* though. The iSine 10s definitely don't perform as well as the SE846s between 20-140 Hz region. Sub bass is present, but not in the layerings or nearly the presence that the SE846 does. Imaging is slightly less precise than what you get with the SE846s. But the general overall sound you get from these at the price point is very, very good - probably better than anything else a few hundred dollars above it. That being said, my Roxanne's which are still head (and shoulders) above the SE846 are a few good strides ahead of these, both in terms of sound, technical ability, and even matches (if not surpasses) the soundstage these have (Roxanne's literally sound that big). But some need open-back for certain applications; others, isolation, so may be the best out there for the former application. All in all very happy with them! +Z Reviews

    I auditioned both the iSine 10 and iSine 20. The 20s were supposed to be worth $600 because they have a longer Uniforce voice coil, but I didn't like them better, and certainly not $200 better. Then I auditioned the LX, which I couldn't distinguish from the 10s, except the 10s were prettier. I ended up getting the $200 LX, instead of the $400 10s or the $600 20s. If I were to do it over, I'd get the B-stock 10s, which are currently selling for $150.
