    I've my pair of 660s for about a month now. Clarity is real. You go from saying "oh hey those are some nice violins" to " There are 5 or 6 violins located there there there there and there and they all sound fantastic"

      Have you heard 600s or 650s for comparison?

    • @lumntoob999
      @lumntoob999 6 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      spronkey I've had everything since the 580's and after about 3 weeks with the 660 I sold my 580 but I still think I'm going to buy another 650 back at some point. The 660 really is the best of the bunch overall but the 650 still offers enough different to warrant having both imo. I saw the one comment saying z was showing to much hype towards the 660 but it seems pretty clear to me that he had a hard time saying they were better than the 600, and considering they are better it's something to be excited about. Don't confuse z's entertaining personality for hype, there's a reason he has ten times the subscribers than most doing a similar thing.

    • @spronkey
      @spronkey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm similar, owned 580s, swapped them for dark screen 600s (older) which are my daily drivers now. Own light screen 650s as well and alternate sometimes (mainly because they're so smooooooooooth). And dw, I pretty much completely agree with Z except for the M50 :D

    • @lumntoob999
      @lumntoob999 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      spronkey I would say you might be able to sell your 600 once you get the 660 if you wanted to but there's only one way to know for sure. I understand on the m50 thing, there not my cup of tea but I don't think your crazy for disagreeing. I happen to own and love the t90 and t70 so much so they are both customized for dual removable cables to run balanced.

      I just returned a pair of the 700s. Jesus Christ, the HD 700 is simply the worst headphone I ever got. Disappointing. I’m looking for another one now, which have BASS and is LOUD. My 700s was EXTREMELY low in volume, it bothered me so much. Depending on what band you listen to, the higher or the lower the volume gets, it’s totally unstable. Shit in every way ever.
      Bow I don’t know which one to go for, since the 700 was just a disappointment. The best I had was the 590. Then the 650 was clearly missing something, despite being a good one. I’m between the 600, another 650 or the 660S. Need BASS and need it to be LOUD. God! 🆘 🛟 Help!

      The difference is, these cans are actually worth the price unlike 95 percent of overly expensive but useless gear out there, these are actually the real deal, especially when using a decent dac and head phone amp... even using these with a 100 dollar hifiwalker h2 player that has an integrated burrbrown dac with a 256gb micro sd playing dsd audio back is better then most things on the market especially when driving these hd 650s cans in high gain mode, hell even a cheap steinburg ur22 mkII dac with decent external headphone amp attached to your computer playing files from foobar is literally perfect, audiophile snobs might whine at the prospect of not having to break your bank, but that setup in either case will go far above anything you can perceive, balanced headphone audio is a gimmic as an example, nothing but a fad with no benefit, now when driving an amplifier or the headphone amplifier its self then yes, it is worth it... but as far as driving cans go, it is useless... the steinburg has balanced 1/4" connectors on the back, its easy to get 1/4" to xlr cables to make a balanced out to drive an amplifier as an example. You literally don't have to go crazy to get to the limits of human hearing.. especially if all of your sources are moblefidelty master tape rips or high quality dsd audio or even flac, wav, ape files from a pure source, after awhile it becomes a waste of money... the setups above i talked about with these sennheiser cans will take you to the best your ears can perceive.

    All the tests said that 660s und 600 sound similar. I have here a new 660s and a new 600 (2019) version. The difference is massive. 660s wants much more attention due to the higher treble and higher bass. The voice is almost at the same level as the instruments. Vocal jazz is amazing with 600, good with 660s. On the other hand Metal / Rock / Pop is amazing with 660s due to more bass and clarity. Hard to decide. Even due the headphones are 130$ dollar apart in my country, I will stick with the 660s as I think it is more versatile.

    Great review! I've not listened to a whole bunch of headphones but bought these as my first serious investment in hifi. As you so eloquently describe, the imaging is is fantastic, it's still intimate in terms of soundstage but each instrument is so cleanly separated in directional 3d space around your head it's incredible! running these off a portable hidizs s9 dac/amp currently and seems there's more than enough to drive them. I am using iFi Zen DAC v1. balanced connection with HD660s. Very happy with the results. They are very smooth, natural and realistic sound with a touch of warmth. With 150 ohm impedance I never need to turn the volume above 11 o’clock. As it is not heavy, I can listen for a few hours without feeling fatigue. I mainly listen to classical music which I think HD660s is ideal for this genre. No matter it’s Chopin’s nocturne (solo piano) or Schubert’s string quartets or symphonies by Beethoven and Mahler involving 100 + pieces of instruments of varied tones and textures, the HD660s reproduces them with ease and accuracy. The HD660S makes me feel I am sitting right in the best seat of the concert hall.

    I love my 660S. Sold my HD600 a few months afterwards and added Dekoni Sheepskin Leather thick earpads for them. Oh man, they are my new go to favorite all rounder can. Love them and the extra provided comfort from the dekoni sheepskin leather earpads is great. I feel the dekoni earpads added a little bit of sparkle in the Treble/Highs that was lost a little bit to my stock velour pads and the bad seal they had after about a year of high usage (they were losing their shape so I'm not surprised). I also think they helped the sound stage very slightly with the drivers being slightly further away from my ears due to the amount of awesome memory foam padding and the great seal. Using a cheap FiiO e10k to power them and it does pretty good.

      @@DaScorpi0n I know it's late, but I'll try and help you out anyway. Depends on what genre of music you are listening to and how sensitive to highs you are, wouldn't get 660S if you are treble sensitive, that's why I switched from 660S to HD 650. Amiron have horrible quality control, you don't know if you will get a treble can pair or a normal one, mine was treble can pair and if I tried pushing them loud the treble got more boosted in volume than other parts or at least that is how I perceived it also if your ears stick out too much like mine do even though not really, your ears will touch the inner side of the cups and it will start hurting in an hour or a few. I also wouldn't be getting any beyer cans if you are anywhere close to treble sensitive. But it's best to test them out ofcourse. Cheers.

    The HD660S are dark-tuned headphones. Either they're great if you're sensitive to bright treble, or they lack treble, depending on what your preconceptions are. Personally it suits my needs but it does sacrifice musical liveliness and there's not much "wow" factor. That's why so many headphones out there are tuned with heavy bass and bright treble in order to sound impressive, so these are a more unapologetic focus on mid-range accuracy. Very different to the HD700. It almost makes me wonder if Sennheiser did a silent revision at one point because some early reviews mention an obviously bright treble which must've been dialled out.

    • @ecohangout4481
      @ecohangout4481 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chozen_juan In general, the headphones are light. the top part has a matte finish but is not quite soft touch. If you look at parts the ridges underneath the sides of the headband, you can actually see parts of the plastic that was not well machined and it still has the marks from when the plastic was molded. However, if you look at it from the top you will not see any imperfections. When twisting and turning it, there is no squeak. They are also pretty flexible. I don't know a single person who wouldnt fit this pair of cans well. But in general the plastic is lower quality than I expected for 500 dollars. I feel like if i really used force or sat on them, they would snap. The earpads are really nice though, and so is the support on the bottom of the headband. Really comfortable to wear. For me, the sound quality and smoothness is worth it, even with the sub-par build quality. But if I were to make the decision again, I would've gone with 1990 pros.

      @@chozen_juan Wow, I was literally looking at the 700 pro x and the 900 pro x today, too! I think these two headphones look pretty great in terms of aesthetics and build quality. I think the sound quality of the 900 pro x would not disappoint. I've even heard that it does not have the same sharp spikes open backed Beyers usually have, which is a huge bonus. Since I already have open back 660s, I think I will go for the 700 pro x for a nice closed back experience. The fact that the impedence for the 700 and the 900 are both around 40 ohms is also a huge bonus. That way my phone and laptop can both power it fairly well. I plan on keeping my HD660s for the desktop and bringing the 700 pro x for a portable solution that looks stylish enough to use in public without looking goofy, but still has audiophile quality isolated sound.

So I would say if you already have 600/650, you don’t need to upgrade. Just eq the mid bass a bit lower on the 650 and it will sound as clear as the 660s and still sound refined and smooth

But one thing before people start shitting on the HD595's. They need burn in. Mucho burn-in. I bought these second hand about two weeks or so ago and they did not sound like they do now, I played them LOUD for about 12-16hrs a day from the day the got to me, and they only really opened up today. They didn't have the detail or the imaging they have now, even by 50% when I got them, the difference is night and day. And I'm loving them, I love the HD580's for how neutral they are, and how natural string sounds in them are, but that may change once I restore them to as close to new as I can, we'll see.

    I watched this review after owning my hd660s, and I agree with you completely. LOVE these headphones, they're like a jack of all trades and master of all.
    I use them for music, movies, Roland vdrums and gaming, and they literally sound better than everything I've ever tried for all those separate activities. They're so versatile it's insane, and even my mobile phone and PS5 controller can make them go LOUD. But to use them without a DAC amp is an insult to the headphones, they really need decent equipment to get the most out of them.

      Hi, do thay have metallic sound as some people claim, compared to hd 600...650?
      and do you think they are still best for 500e?
      Can they be decently powered with some 100...150 e amp ?

    • @millenwagon
      @millenwagon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danilopavlovic8305 definitely not metallic sounding, they’re very natural. Admittedly I recently got hold of some dt 1990 pro and they’re so much better than the 660s. Whilst the 660s are smoother and more natural, the 1990 image MUCH better, have a better soundstage, better bass and crispier highs. 660s are still wonderful but the 1990 are much more versatile. They’re both easy enough to drive, both sound much better with a DAC amp.

      I agree but partially, hd660 is a jack of all trades in the best possible way, hd660 are great for everything but movies, in movies voices are too thin and bass is overwhelming sometimes

      @YggdrasilAE why so aggressive? I actually like this headphone and I think it's a fair opinion. It could use a little bit of sub bass since HD58x the fabled "budget HD660s" can go a bit lower. But this is not in any way a bad headphone just because I said it's bass-thin. I actually love this headphone for what it can do. I even considered owning one if my living place isn't such a big shit hole for owning headphones.
      Is it the way I said it? Is this headphone is currently in your inventory? and my comment feels like its attacking you as the owner? If that's the case I'm really sorry. It is merely an opinion from someone who owns 20+ headphones in his entire life, and of course none of them are beats by defect.

      How does this compare to 2000x? Worth owning both?

    • @willsbox635
      @willsbox635 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They sound different. I personally hate describing sound because the bass of this genre is not equal to the bass of that genre, also mids, highs, etc... But I'll try. >>>I would say 660s has better comfort, more punchy bass and soundstage than 2000x and decent mids and highs. HOWEVER, 2000x still excels in female vocal and strings, given that the sound nature of it is so unique (it sounds almost moist and therefore so pleasant to listen, i really dont know how to describe...). Back to 660s, it is a bright , analytical headphone, a good bang on higher tier dynamic headphones (a little bit expensive though). HOWEVER (again), if you let me to choose again, I would rather spend 600 bucks on a second hand lcd2 or 150 on a he400i, because... i personally love planar and electrostatic more :)
