Whoa I switched mid song (fragments of time) from the m40x to the m60x. The bass is the first thing I notice. I think they need a burn-in period, because these don't sound nearly as clear as the m40x. In money trees, Kendrick sounds like he is behind something.

Thank you so much Zeos for another great review! I went immediately to a local audio technica showroom after seeing this review, and boy did the M60x sound amazing. After years developing their "sound reality" series, I guess they've finally figured it out. Totally got your point there, didn't find it necessary at all to dissect the sound; it was just pure pleasure.
I was so ready to get them to replace my AR5BTs (yes I did get bluetooth version thanks to the smartphone industry...), but then I realized that giving the AR5/AR5BTs a better cable takes the sound to a whole new level. Not sure if it's my ears aren't good enough or they're actually good, but the AR5BTs with upgraded cable (HDC1133 from AT as well) also gave me the "IM THERE" feeling, and I'm pretty sure I like them more than my MSR7s, even my isine10s for certain tracks. They do sound a bit colder and harsher than the M60x, but the cable helps a lot. Not sure what the people at AT have been up to, but some brilliant minds hidden in there sure have awakened.

  • @isoertz

i just got these. coming from M40x and MSR7 (which are close sounding to each other) - VERY clean and natural sound. the imaging! OH! fucking amazing. more detail in highs, less sharp (but better extended) which was kind of a let down on the previous ones, you get the spaciousness, the airness and the vocals just come out of the shell. Comfy. Lighter. Better built. Bass hits a little bit more. They can get a bit hot though. And they dont fold. Reccomendo!

    • @justanotheryoutubeuser5029
      @justanotheryoutubeuser5029 5 ปีที่แล้ว

RafadanaM i know old post but had the m40x and was on the fence with the msr 7 and m60x. The difference in sound signature got me sold on the m60x. I just had to have it, its so different than my other headphones that it warranted the purchase.
To cut short, if you have nice headphones and you want something new, go m60x. If its your first dive to audio world, msr7. M40x are great but i like the msr sound better.

Yes, i do get that. Got a chance to try them out at local computer event and instantly loves the sound of ath m60x. It's so fun, so musical, so forgiving yet detailed, it's one the best natural sounding portable, really. I just think that they need a slight pricing adjustment on these, maybe at $160-170 would be a killer choice for portable headphones.

  • @cstine17

I ordered them after this review. I've been waiting months to figure out my next "everywhere, everything" headphones to replace a beat up pair of Grado SR60s... This seemed like a nice time to give something else a shot.
Maybe its because I came from Grados, butmygod, the bass is so soo tight. Sound stage is impressive. The Grados don't even win in the treble range, which has generally been their strength.
They're comfy for on-ears. (I've got big-ass-pointy-elf-ears) Sound solid enough directly from my cellphone port(I listen to headphones while walking my dog and I'm not bringing a DAC/AMP with me...), but GOOD GOD, plugged into my Emotiva BasX A-100 they just go on overdrive. (Should I use the jumpers with the BasX for these headphones? If it'll make them crazier I'm tempted?)
(Been listening to Childish Gambino, Jason Isbell, and a random assortment of indie shit so far with them; Absolutely shined with Gambino (Anything on Redbone), any female vocals and ESPECIALLY "Dance Yrself Clean" by LCD Soundsystem.-- I heard shit in this song that I don't hear on my Kef700s)

I have to say subjectively so that each and every fucking word uttered in this review is true in my experience. Just got them 2 days ago and I still didn't stop playing music all throughout those two days. I've heard pretty much all the portables I could get the hands on myself: H6, H9i, I own momentum 2's, meze 99 neo/classic, CAL! . These have something intangible that just make them better than basically anything portable I've ever tried. They've got the magic and the resolve to hopefully win you over cause they blew me the fuck away quite honestly

**** Zeos Pantera Amazon review*** "As I sit here getting ready to review these M60x. I am reminded how disappointed I have been in the MX0x line. Only the M40x get my approval and by such a large margin it is hard to believe how poorly the 30,50 and 70 were. Well It must be all about the even numbers because THESE.. So natural sounding. So spacious. Not the greatest design for portable use (doesn't fold in any way) and it lacks a hard case for the cost. On ear but the perfect amount of clamp and the pads feel fantastic. The imaging is stellar. The clarity, the low end. These are my new favorite SOUNDING closed portable. Over the 1more Triple and B&O H6. These things rock. FFF" Kind of weird reading a Z public "clean" review...lol

    • @CaveyMoth

The problem with the M50's sound stems from its pads. Around the time they came out with the x model, they changed the pads to ones that are deeper and more comfortable..but the pads changed the sound signature for the worst.

Picked up a set of these out of curiosity. Loving the sub-bass and soundstage. There is one issue and its with volume; If you keep the volume under a certain level and your recordings are good quality, then these certainly perform. However, these are laid-back and you want to turn them up, and once you do the problem begins.
There is a glare somewhere in the midrange (treble is fine), and when a female vocal or other sound (like a fret-slide) hits this certain frequency, it will hit your eardrums hard unless your volume is set just right. This is where I feel the M60X does not completely escape the flaws of the 45mm M50 driver.
The bass above sub-bass can get a bit cloudy and indistinct at times, but at least it is not muddy like the M50.
Above all, recording quality is a huge factor for these headphones. I was initially going to return them, but for the cost they have remarkable sub-bass (better than a lot of planars), are easy to drive, comfortable and the glare doesn't ruin the sound.
EDIT: Zeos, there is a switch on the left earcup that engages ''hearing protection mode''. It makes the headphones much harder to drive, but if you can power them this way, all the midrange glare disappears and they sound excellent. Not sure if everyone's pair has this glare or if its differences in hearing, but it improves drastically with the protection mode on.

    • @Vonliktenstien
      @Vonliktenstien 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Holy crap man. Good catch. I can def confirm that the switch does help them in those ranges. Can even come close to powering this mobile with the switch enabled. I'd imagine you'd need a hell of a portable amp to power them. I'm at 3 o' clock high gain on my Origen G2.

I really do love the sound of these but I have three issues with them:
1 - I really wish they had a more compact, portable design. Ita would have been PERFECT if the on ear design was coupled with the folding (and rotating) design of the other m series (excluding m70s).
2 - As a cause of the design, I am yet to find a hard case for these which is lame considering their price.
3 - The two cables that connect to the cups are out and exposed and so if anything happens to them these are probably dead and repairing them would probably be unlikely.
Otherwise they're great I use them for mixing and transcribing jazz and their clarity is brilliant. Would love it if somebody could recommend me a hard case they fit inside.

One thing I happened to think about is how much of a difference just the pads can make and that also got me thinking and bc of how some ppl's heads and ears are shaped they're going to have different experiences with different types of headphones which could be another reason why some prefer different types to others.

Ok, yah, that does take the 1Mores out of the main stream. I'll have to give these things a try. Nice that I don't have to spend near a thousand dollars to check them out. I will say, cuz I haftah, if you burn in the 1Mores and properly amp them, they are just flipping fabulous.

First of all congratulations on what you do with honestly! I have been following you for a long time because I like your reviews. Not every time I agree with you but I respect your opinion. I come from a former communist country until December 1989 but I learned to be tolerant of the American company I have been working with since 1996. Until 1989 the highest official headsets in my country were Tesla, made in Czechoslovakia, and the unofficial ones were Sony, Panasonic, Technics, Pioneer. But both categories were to be found. I didn't know anything about Sennheiser, Audio Technica, AKG, Bosse, Beyerdynamic, Oppo, Grado, Stax, etc. Finally, I don't want to waste too much time. I have dozens of headphones from AKG, ATH and Sennheiser. I still have a lot of commercial audio headphones from brands that I do not currently discuss. With AKG I got to K812, Sennheiser to HD800 and ATH to AD1000X. I acquired them by guiding me after the reviews of people I respect as well as you.
The ATH M50s were totally different from anything I had listened to before. The sound enters my brain directly from the frontal direction. They do not offer audiophile pleasure. They are direct and brutal. They are completely missing the transitions. I mean harmonics. These studio monitors are made to "conceal" inconsistencies, mistakes. There are analytical audio headsets for analysis, they are not audiophile or hi-fi. I really found out that much later. I had already returned them and forgot about them until the M50X appeared. I bought them immediately and slowly, slowly I started to discover them. It provides the most brutal possible sound without any artistic ambitions. Acoustic physics without any artistic virtuosity. Sometimes I feel the need to use them, but not for relaxation and enjoyment. Just to check my audio files. I don't have M40X but I have M70X and R70X which I am very pleased with. In my opinion '70s are not for monitoring as they are not so analytical. I am just as puzzled by the M60 "on ear" as I was by the R70 "opened" for monitoring.
I will buy them for the office because of your review.
I have no where to test them before I buy them but I'm convinced it sounds good. At this point in the office I alternate AKG N60NC and Sennheiser M2 Over Ear and feel the need for an upgrade.
Once again congratulations and thanks for what you do!
I apologize for my bad English.
I will come back with impressions after buying the M60X from ATH.

Today I received the ordered headsets. The sound is precise and fast, fairly neutral. The sound stamp is M50x but it looks faster. The soundstage is limited but for this I use other headphone models. I like how they look and they are very comfortable. If they could fold I would have been happy. If the M50X BT has already appeared I am convinced that the M60X BT will follow. The next few days I will play with them only. Best wishes to all!

I got my pair 3 days after this video came out and fair enough, the sound is amazing. Sometimes I found myself not being able to breathe at medium-high volumes because the sound overwhelms you in a good way, quite an experience. However, I wouldn't recommend them too much for $200 unless they were $170 and below or don't have a really nice pair already. The build and functionality quality isn't exactly worth $200 but I don't feel too ripped off, so no regrets there because the sound is so nice and so is the comfortability.
I happened to have the MSR7s and these M60x's kinda take the sharp highs of the MSR7s and turns them into more bass but loses just a little bit of clarity which is why MSR7s are more analytical and sharp than the musical M60x in my opinion. These are also much lighter on my head so they can be worn for probably the whole day but they're slightly more prone to getting off place.
On ear feels basically the same as over ear except that over ear surrounds your ear, making it hotter. Yeah maybe it has slightly better isolation for the sound to enter your ears, don't look as odd and don't fall as easily etc etc but who cares? It's understandable if you wear glasses and stuff but it isn't that bad to be honest.

@@ZkaBin Yeah, I'm talking about casual game like red dead redemption. It is not as immersive or natural sounding as my fidelio X2, most likely because the soundstage is much smaller than the X2.
Plus the bass is less pronounced compared to the X2. Gunshot sounds much better with punchy bass.
However if you prioritize music more you should get the m60x as it excels in clarity and music sounds really detailed and great in it.
But if gaming is your priority, get an open back headphone like fidelio X2 since you need large soundstage for gaming. With a large soundstage you can determine the direction and distance a shot is coming from.

    • @kato2395
      @kato2395 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ZkaBin let me be honest. I only have 2 headphones as of now. X2 fidelio and M60x, I love both of them, however if you only let me have 1 headphone I will choose X2 fidelio because it is kind of an all rounder. It has a great sound stage which will help you determine the enemy's location and distance based on the gunshot or foot steps they made. To summarize X2 is good for music, perfect for game.
The M60x specializes in music. Music is super clear, the bass it not as pronounced as the X2 but that is the perfect amount of bass I would like for a crystal clear music listening experience. To summarize my experience the M60x would be perfect for music and hot garbage for gaming (at least compared to X2 fidelio). As you can see the M60x is kinda on the extreme compared to the all rounder fidelio.
If I were you I would purchasing an X2 fidelio instead, especially when you already have closed back gaming headphone like the coolermaster, the open back X2 fidelio would be a whole new experience for you. The X2 Fidelio is no longer in production but the great news is the better version of it the X2 HR that provides even more clarity than the old X2 that I am currently using is now available for purchase. I've used the Fidelio for 4 years, since 2016 and not once I regretted my purchase. It is a money well spent.
I also recommend checking the Philip SHP 9500. It is much much cheaper than the Philip Fidelio X2 HR. It is also open back and I've heard extremely good things about it even though I haven't purchased one yet. Considering it is designed so similarly to the X2, I would assume that the SHP9500 has a similar sound signature to the X2, even though I heard that the bass isn't ass pronounced, the sound is not as warm and the soundstage is not as large compared to the X2. I'm pretty sure the soundstage should be much larger than what your closed back coolermaster provide though.
If you live in Indonesia you can get the SHP9500 as cheap as Rp.1,5 mil on tokopedia and the X2 HR for around 3 - 4 mil. As for M60x it should be around 2.2 - 2.5mil. But I really don't recommend getting the M60x unless you already have an all rounder headphone like fidelio X2 or SHP9500 since the M60x is too specialized for music listening instead of gaming.
Disclaimer: This is an opinion from someone who is not an expert, you should check out the reviews of the X2HR, X2 and SHP9500 before making your decisions. LOL

Yeah I don't freakin' get the Marques Brownlee M50x love. I mean, granted, even though he likes headphones, I don't think he's a crazy anal audio guy, and I even think he said it himself. That being said, I don't like how due to his name (and the guy also has legitimately awesome presentations too) it's perpetuating the myth that M50xs are the best daily headphones. You've got something like the DT770s in the same price bracket, and you've got soundstage, better ergonomics, more pleasant frequency response (imo), better build quality and something you can live with 24/7. I'd rather get DP'd by drill bits through both ears than use the M50xs for anything else other than pure audio monitoring.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF vs. "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"? What will Zeos do if these things break in to sound like doodoo? Most likely, the world will never know, because it will probably make little difference.

So just got mine and was listening to it for initial impressions. Lows, highs, Soundstage are great. I do have some issues with mids. They don't seem very natural particular upper mids crossing into treble. Idk if it's the 5-6k spike in really sensitive to but for example beyond the beautiful disaster by 311 the cymbals are a little shrill. Green light by lorde her voice again not very natural sounding (to me). Even tangled by maroon 5 vocals just seem a bit odd to me and for the most part I love the mastering every song from songs about Jane. I'll keep testing but I still like my takstar 82 for portable. Also the 82s are more flexible with how I can use them for different situations
Edit: beautiful disaster not beyond the grey sky.

Damn, I remember back in the days considering to buy the M50x, until I got to try them at the shop. It indeed sounded like hot garbage!

Had the same experience. So many people recommended them and had the chance to try them on at a store. I couldn't tell if the drivers were damaged or not tbh.

Well, I had a shure 440, and IEMs such as the se215, RHA MA750 & t20i by the time I checked it out. With all that hype that has been around it I had high hopes. Then I put them on driven from my Mate 9, and I was baffled how the bass completely shadowed everything. I mean I like a tasteful bass emphasis, but it wasnt't like that at all, no sign of control. Despite being IEMs, the t20 blew them away on the spot in terms of clarity, detail, coherence, and bass quality.
By the way, I had exactly the same experience with the RHA t10 IEM when I tried it, I think that and the m50x have a similar sound signature.
So I walked away, picked up a used MDR-1aDAC for like 100 bucks, and never looked back since. I might give it another go with my Ha2, but it would be a sidegrade at best after the MDR-1a.
Edit: I'm definitely gonna have a second check with some A-B because I might be very wrong here. I tried the m50x more than a year ago and for a relatively short time, I shouldnt judge.

Just picked these up expecting a revelation. Instead was hit with spike'y (if pleasant) mids. There is definitely a poke/hump at around 1200 hz. No bueno. Returning tomorrow.

Jose - yeah..that was me. That 1.2k peak is just too much. It's like the 3.5k peak in the 7506's.

I thought the same thing too. I bought them at an audio shop last week and after listening to them for 3 hours I returned them.

Feel like you may have talked these up a bit, so if somebody got these and was disappointed because they rely on your opinion entirely for audio equipment and were expecting to be blown away in every aspect of what they've listened to before lol. As for me, I feel like if I bought these I would feel good that I've got great, perhaps the best value (opinionated) on-ears because of this review. So cheers for that : )
