I completely agree. Don’t isolate yourself from these rare moments when the family all come together. I was told by a friend that her friend who’s a revert never stoped participating in these events. Gradually, as years pass by. This revert family ended up embracing Islam.
I’m not saying if you go to these events that everyone in the family will become Muslim (although it happened in this case.) but it will show the character of a Muslim and the people who attend usually observe these things.
I stopped celebrating and attending a Christmas family get together years ago. I thought it was the proper thing to do...but it damaged the relationship with me and my family 😔

Exactly. It will make them more isolated and distant from you. My partner and his family celebrate, nothing wrong with exchanging gifts and eating together. mostly only do it for tradition anyway. Do what you gotta do then go pray and read Quran lol i love the diversity if anything.

«Those who do harm to themselves. The angels will take away their souls by saying: "Where were you?" (About your religion) "We were weak on earth," they said. Then the angels will say, "Was not the land of Allah large enough to allow you to emigrate?" These are the ones whose refuge is Hell. what a bad destination!»

A revert journey is a progression, baby steps are best let your journey unfold organically and don’t feel over burdened or the person will feel resentment and that it’s way too hard.
None of us are perfect and one Muslim may be good in one thing and not another .
I bought my mother gifts at Christmas and treated her well , she went out of her way to celebrate eid for me,
Guess what she ultimately took shahada Islam should not be extremely difficult it just puts people off ,
May I add it’s about intention I didn’t believe Jesus was the son of god or that it was even his birthday as it isn’t , but I respected my mother and her beliefs , and was really chill
    Anyways that’s my view

I agree with you sister. Like you, I too embraced Islam & have grappled with the whole Christmas as a revert issue. I also understand & accept the reality that we as Muslims do not celebrate Christmas.
I don't wish people (especially even the kids I teach swimming to & work collegues at work) a Merry Christmas, rather I simply wish them happy holidays &/or all the best. They are all cool with that. I wouldn't expect them to wish me Eid Mubarak, in the same way they wouldn't expect my to wish them Merry Christmas.
To you be your way & to me be mine (Surah Al-Khafaroon, Ayat 6)
Many years before I embraced Islam, I had stopped celebrating it as I understood the origins of the occasion. My parents knew & understood that I wasn't into the whole thing (I think I was around 13 when I stopped celebrating although I didn't embrace Islam till I was 28). My wife & I still go up to my home town to visit them regularly throughout the year & they really enjoy whenever my wife & I come up. Just not at Christmas time - they usually do their own thing anyway.
Now I am Muslim, my wife & I spend Christmas, having a Lebanese BBQ with a Muslim family. Away from Christmas celebrations, alcohol, etc. Alhamdulillah. :)

I think for someone that is born Muslim, it doesn’t make sense to celebrate Christmas, as I don’t celebrate for example Diwali. But if you are a revert it’s different. There is nothing wrong to just wish marry Christmas and to eat with your family, to simply be together and enjoy the happiness of the day. This doesn’t mean you believe in it. A lot of Christians nowadays don’t believe in it either. It is just a celebration that was also done in the past to exorcise the fear of the winter and the darkness 💕

Christmas has enormous secular value to many people, as does the tradition of Santa Claus. No one is trying to force anyone to participate in the tradition of Santa if they don't want to, but the tradition has special meaning for many people and he isn't based on a demonic figure. He is based on the historical St Nicholas, that is a verifiable fact. Happy New year.

I would like to give my thoughts on these 2 topics:
    - You cannot be "born Muslim": believing is something you choose when you have learnt. It is a proactive thing to become and be a Muslim. But yes, you can be born in a Muslim home.
    - Celebrating Christmas is not haram: in Islam, something is forbidden when it is CLEARLY forbidden. The prophet (pbuh) not celebrating Christmas does not mean it's forbidden to celebrate it, as long as you don't worship Jesus. If a hadith was found saying that the prophet (pbuh) never wore a black shirt, it doesn't mean wearing a black shirt is haram. My family and I are Muslim and yet, we celebrate Christmas every year not as a religious thing whatsoever, but as a good time to be all reunited, have fun, decorate, eat a good meal and give to charities.
    Salam
    and enjoy your holidays :)

This I would call "clean Content", MashaAllah, so you would not have been in need to put the XMas Cap and decoration on your Cover ;-) You have spoken well- What is haram for Muslims is haram for whole of humankind❤
MashaAllah!! I just think, especially reverts, many times only understand the deep logic and wisdom behind the Haram and Halal Principles, if they are explained from their perspectives, translated into the direct speech and law in Islam from Quran and Sunna. As revert I remember, how many times I had to go back to the basically old believe System, to bring every Single thing clean converted into Islam. Finally, after really all of my questions found logically answers, my Iman became strong, my Wisdom and my believe became strong, that I felt completed and wanted to speak my Shahada new.

And as for alcohol: since I became Muslim I realise how crazy people are in Aussie culture to drink. My mum was dying in her bed 2yrs ago and every night we were there her 2 sisters were drinking wine and eating cheese in the dining room nearby like they were at a bloody party. It made me so angry. Like, they couldn’t even give it up in a time of grief. It really makes you see when you don’t drink.

This "trend" prohibiting the wishing of non muslim celebration became popular just in recent 6 to 10 years and spread across the internet. If more and more peoples agree with the "trend" then it automagically become facts. Extremist will start sticking their ulema fatwas & their "sunnah" sticker on it.
There's a hadeeth about our times, ignorant peoples will be the leader of this ummah and followed without question. Well, this is it.
Are we following the Sunnah or are we following the Jews ? They are known to view Christmas negatively.

"ISLAM IS NOT AGAINST CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS OR CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF ANY PROPHET (PEACE BE UPON THEM). IT ACTUALLY ENDORSES IT AND CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS OR BIRTH OF ANY PROPHET SUCH AS CHRISTMAS OR EID MILAD UN NABI OF LAST PROPHET HAZRAT YA MUHAMMAD SALUL LA HO ALAIHE WA ALE HE WASALAM) IS NEITHER SHIRK OR BIDA'T." I say this without getting into FATWAS or FIQAS or whatever that has been cooked up in the name of Islam but has nothing to do with Islam and with full conviction as someone who was born to a Muslim family, raised among Muslims and someone who CELEBRATES BOTH living in a Muslim country.
I would go as far as to say that we, as Muslims, have more right to celebrate Christmas than Christians. Why? It is because we, Muslims, will celebrate Christmas for it is, which is Birth of Hazrat Esa Bin Maryam (Jesus Christ Son of Mary) Peace Be Upon Him and not son of God. I can understand the confusion with those who are reverts but this is also, unfortunately made, controversial within the Muslim world too by Fatwa vending Mullahs of every denomination throughout the world and since Muslims find it easy to blindly follow these Mullahs like a sheep rather than read and understand the Quran themselves; therefore, many practices, beliefs and things that Islam states/endorses in Quran have been painted as otherwise, nonconforming with Islam or dubbed 'Haram' altogether.
So, without going into any sect/creed or fatwas, here is what the Quran has to say:
“And Peace be upon Me on the day of My birth, the day of My demise and the day I shall be raised up alive!”
    (Maryam, 19 : 33)
In the above verse Quran is quoting Hazrat Esa Bin Maryam (Peace Be Upon Him) as saying that Salam (Peace) be upon Me on the day of My Birth in other words His (Peace Be Upon Him) Birthday or Christmas whichever you prefer. It is also obvious from the verse that it is sunnah of Jesus Christ (Peace Be Upon Him). Additionally, Quran is not just telling us to celebrate the Birth of Prophet Jesus Christ (Peace Be Upon Him) but also how "Muslims" should celebrate or mark that day.
If there are still any doubts then the following verse of Quran should make it abundantly clear:
“And Peace be on Yahya (John The Baptist) the day He was born, the day He dies, and the day He will be raised up alive!”
    (Maryam, 19 : 15)
This time it is Allah Almighty Himself sending Salam (Peace) Be sent on Yahya (Peace Be Upon Him) on his “Birthday”. ALLAH, the Creator and Lord of everything including the Prophets, the universe, the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them ordaining and showing everyone in the last divine revelation, Quran, sent to His Last Prophet Hazrat Ya Muhammad Salul La Ho Alaihe Wa Ale He Wasalam to celebrate His Prophet's Birthday by sending Salam (Peace) on their "Birthday".
So, believers should celebrate Eid Milad Un Nabi of Last Prophet Hazrat Ya Muhammad Salul La Ho Alaihe Wa Ale He Wasalam on 12th Rabi ul Awal OR Christmas and there is nothing wrong in saying Merry Christmas rather also tell your friends, family or the extended family that celebrating these events is actually very Islamic thing to do and what Quran has to say about it. This would not only spread the true word of Quran but also remove barriers and bring people and families closer with a better understanding.

Just don’t do their traditions like hanging up a christmas tree giving presents on christmas day. Muslims have eid where we give and receive gifts you don’t see Christians participating on eid. Bottom line is we shouldn’t be copying non believers it’s sad to see muslims try so hard to fit in with non believers and forget their own religion and sunnah.

Should Muslims Join the Christmas Fever?
This is one of those topics that always has to resurface every time the event comes around.
I completely agree that there are many more important topics that must be discussed and shared, but it so happens that unfortunately and regretfully this topic of “Muslims celebrating Christmas” is at the top of the list of questions during this season.
It really does come as a shock for us to receive this many queries about an event that has nothing to do with us as Muslims.
I will go one step further and say it has nothing to do with Christianity as a religion as well. We all know that this whole Christmas topic is even controversial among Christians themselves.[1] There are Christians who completely denounce Christmas and refuse to celebrate anything from it.[2]
It doesn’t concern us whether or not all or some Christians celebrate Christmas. That’s an internal issue they have. But this issue serves as a strong argument against us Muslims who might find ourselves obliged to take part in something in solidarity with people around us, but yet the practice itself has no basis.
When we know that Islam is a complete religion and a way of life, with a long and vast heritage, it has so much in it that would really keep us occupied throughout the year. We will be so busy and vibrantly active, we won’t have any time for anything else.
Look at all the occasions we have during the year. As a Muslim, do you do anything for these great celebrations: Ramadhan al-Mubarak, Eid al-Adha, 15th of Sha’baan, Eid al-Ghadir, or the birthdays of our Ma’sumeen (a.s.)?
Are they just normal days in your household that pass by and you or your children don’t even notice them? I am not just talking about the Mustahab things you should be doing on our sacred days and celebrations, but also creating such an atmosphere in the home, where the children live them.
Is that better for you to have, or to introduce non-Islamic practices that have no basis even in the religion they’re supposedly based on?
So it’s not just about having a Christmas tree in your house, or putting out biscuits and milk next to the fireplace. It’s about having pride in your heritage and identity.
When you read into Islamic law, one of the outstanding cases strongly reiterated is the prohibition of imitating non-Muslims and doing something that is a part of the rituals, habits or practices of non-Muslims.
For example, many hadiths insist on men shortening their moustaches, and then explain that it’s because Jewish men at that time would leave their moustaches to grow long. So it was a way of allowing themselves to be recognised as Muslims.
All of our jurists - Sunni and Shi’ah - say it is Haram for us to buy, sell, or adorn ourselves or our houses with statues or symbols of other religions. You cannot hang a crucifix, or put a Buddha statue, and then innocently say that there is no harm in it.
This isn’t belittling or insulting other religions. It is you as a Muslim being proud of what you have and keeping your personal space as Islamic as possible.

In my Classical civilisation class (it's where I study about Roman's and Greeks) I learnt that Christmas originated from Roman's and the Roman's used to celebrate the saturnalia which was when the Roman's celebrated their God Saturn's ( god of harvest) birthday from the 17th of December to the 25th and when christianity came along the roman king of that time changed the whole festival around from the Saturnalia to Jesus's birthday

    • @04nbod
      @04nbod หลายเดือนก่อน

Your classical Civilisation class was wrong. Saturnalia finished on the 23rd December. Christmas is 9 months from Easter because that is how long it takes to gestate a child. Its symbolic of birth, death and resurrection. This connection was concocted by Anti Catholics during the reformation. These people thought you should study the bible alone without tradition. So wanted to paint Christmas as un-Christian. It has no basis in fact outside those reformation publications.

    • @Sadika101
      @Sadika101 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@04nbod I absolutely do not like how you just assumed that my classical civilization class/ teacher is wrong, when in fact she studied the subject in detail at Oxford university and then went onto teach many students, so I think I trust her, since she just didn't say it without reason but backed it up with academic sources and articles from well researched people on the subject and we studied the festival in detail with again backed up sources from that time, so I think I'll believe she is academically right.
      Anyways, back to your points:
Firstly, while Saturnalia did end on December 23rd, the choice of December 25th for Christmas wasn’t directly about Saturnalia but rather about the Roman festival of Sol Invictus, which was celebrated on December 25th (my fault for not mentioning that in my original comment). Early Christians likely chose this date to offer a Christian alternative to these popular pagan festivities.
Your claim that the connection between Christmas and pagan traditions was concocted by Anti-Catholics during the Reformation is factually incorrect. The celebration of Christmas on December 25th was established long before the Reformation. The early Church’s decision to place Christmas on this date was rooted in theological reasoning and the desire to Christianize existing pagan practices, not in any later anti-Catholic sentiment. In fact, many Reformers, like Martin Luther, embraced and promoted Christmas traditions.
Also, Christmas does incorporate some elements from earlier pagan festivals, for example:
      1. The choice of December 25th as the date for Christmas wasn’t based on any biblical evidence or Christian tradition about the actual birthdate of Jesus, which is not mentioned in the Bible. Instead, it was selected to coincide with the Roman festival of Sol Invictus and the earlier Saturnalia. These were significant pagan celebrations that marked the winter solstice, a time when the sun was "reborn" after the longest night of the year. By aligning Christmas with these festivals, early Christians essentially repurposed a major pagan holiday, giving it a new meaning but retaining much of the existing celebratory framework.
2.Many of the customs associated with Christmas have direct pagan origins. For example, the use of evergreen trees and wreaths, mistletoe, and holly were all part of pre-Christian winter festivals that celebrated nature and the renewal of life during the darkest time of the year. The tradition of feasting, gift-giving, and merry-making during Christmas closely mirrors the practices of Saturnalia, where roles were reversed, gifts were exchanged, and people indulged in food and drink. These customs were not originally Christian but were adopted and rebranded by the early Church.
So, while the early Church did attempt to infuse these pagan customs with Christian meaning-such as interpreting evergreen trees as symbols of eternal life-the fact remains that the foundation of the holiday is deeply tied to pagan rituals. The transformation of a pagan festival into a Christian one does not erase its origins; rather, it highlights how the Church strategically co-opted existing traditions to facilitate the spread of Christianity.
Here are sources that back it up, just so you know I'm not getting those information from thin air and people who have studied classical civilization and/or have done detailed research made those articles, videos and books.

You don't understand my point. My point isn't that the Reformation established December 25th. My point is that people like the Puritans didn't agree with Christmas at all and wanted it abolished because it wasn't in the bible. The idea that Christmas was pagan originated in a book called 'Certain Queries Touching the Rise and Observation of Christmas' written by the Puritan Joseph Heming.
      "1."
That seems logical but its not true. What you are seeing here are common thematic parallels. Christians actually do it the opposite way around. If you put Easter, death and rebirth in December you'd come up with the same parallels wouldn't you? If you put the birth in March, you'd say it was 'new life' right? There is nothing that suggests Christians cared about Sol Invictus or Saturnalia at all. Not one document that connects them. There is no evidence of this just some people with an agenda hundreds of years later making it up. The date is very easy to explain. Christians at the time believed that Jesus died on March 25th and that this was also the date of the annunciation. 9 Months after March 25th is December 25th. So the date of Christmas is more to do with the date of Easter than it is to do with anything else.
The only evidence we have of a celebration for Sol Invictus dates to 354AD and it only took place in Rome. The first evidence of Christmas is 336AD also in Rome. So, which one copied which? Christmas was already established. Perhaps Sol Invictus was a Pagan way of combating it? But the 354 event didn't really catch on and wasn't replicated? Again, guesses. We've got no documents on what these people were thinking.
      "2."
This also isn't true. People use evergreens because they are green in winter. That's it. Mistletoe in Germanic paganism was associated with death, it killed Baldur. Not kisses. The first reference to a Christmas tree is from France in 1576. Traditions pop up all the time. Mince pies aren't ancient are they? They start somewhere and just because you dont know where they start it doesn't mean that they are ancient. You need to have references in ancient documents or artifacts to back these things up but there are none. Again you are finding thematic parallels but as I said, you could switch out Easter and make the same parallels. Gift giving comes from the feast of St Nicholas, historically December 6th. This is the source for Father Christmas. He's the patron Saint of children. That is another thing you haven't accounted for. All these festivities are adult. Christmas has taken on meaning as Children's festival. That is how these things evolve.

You don’t believe in what Christmas stands for ,(which’s Jesus birthday) and that’s the most important thing.

I believe jesus is our prophet and there is nothing wrong in being somewhere where his birth is being celebrated. I believe nothing wrong in saying merry xmas is it's all about Jesus PBUH birthday and not about his divinity where we can stay quiete even if go to a church.

I am Muslim and my mum is Catholic all I have is my family and I celebrate Xmas with my family but not in a religious way just as a tradition of the food and gift I don't see the big deal. I might be wrong but non religious people celebrate Xmas so I don't see the issue.

Hello Simone! Congratulations on your conversion! I’m so happy for you! May I suggest something? 😊
I have been following an account on Tumblr called Reverthelp, and their Instagram is @revert_help. I have made a couple of revert friends and they mentioned that the admin is a professional life coach who helps them with their questions and supports them through their process. They are really happy with the support they get. They have a really nice community too. Seeing your comment I thought they can be of good use for you as well if you need any information or resources. Do send them a message 😊 best ✌🏻

Asalamulikumsalam, I just learnt recently that Christmas isn't originally a Christian Religion it was a pagan Religion which was banned in United States up to like the 1880s was only then legalized and introduced to Christianity so no it's not a Christian holiday traditionally and Jesus peace be upon him wasn't even born in December.

  • @adnanshafi1481

I am a born muslim but if I were you, I would meet all the family members at christmas with good "ikhlaq", make them feel that I care and also make them feel important. So they can see what my religion has turned me into through my morals. But I'll make this whole interaction relatively short to make it clear that I am not there to celebrate christmas but instead to meet them and then leave the place. I would not spend the night at my home (assuming living with non muslim parents, etc.) if the guests are coming over and they would drink and do that sort of haram stuff all night.

I agree with what you say, as long as it is not related to worship, of course (for me) we can get together especially with family. Regarding the Merry Christmas greeting, usually I just say Happy Celebrating. I don't think that would be against Islamic rules.
