Sweet where such a great band, Mick was an awesome drummer, had the pleasure of seeing them live in my early teens, their music is timeless, beautifully constructed and performed with skilful assertiveness
Sweet Fanny Adams was a long awaited album from Sweet. I can still remember when the record came out, we were twelve and lying in our tents outside the council houses, my goodness, it was a positive shock when we heard this record for the first time...I couldn't believe it. We still had Poppa Joe and Wig Wam Bam in our ears and Teenage Rampage was still at number 1 in the charts in April 1974. It was exactly 50 years ago, unbelievable, we had no money, only one person had the LP and everyone wanted to copy it onto the cassette recorder. It was also the time when singer Brian Connolly was the victim of a fight. From then on, his voice was never heard as brilliantly again... which is why he couldn't sing some songs on this LP. Andy and Steve had to step in for him. There is still a lot to say about this...Sweet set standards for the time with this, their first real long-playing record...the cover is also brilliant...the band at their peak, still in their glam outfits...I would say their masterpiece...they were national heroes at that time and will always remain so for me..thanks for that!..
According to Sweet the title Sweet F.A. means F All. Slang for Nothing At All. A feeling of frustration or resignation. The band members said it was inspired by their personal experiences in the music industry. The frustration and disillusion when trying to make it big. The whole band really rocks on this one. The guitar by Andy Scott, the drums by Mick Tucker, the bass by Steve Priest and the vocals by Brian Connolly. Andy Scott did the keyboard fills while Brian Connolly played keys during the song.
By the time I managed to get to see them live, they weren't as good, because the original lead singer, Brian Connolly, had died years before. I loved them so much and had a great double live album. Don't know what you've seen of them, as I don't get on YT enough, so I'll just recommend my faves, like love is like oxygen, the sixteen, fox on the run, blockbuster, poppa Jo, set me free, hell raiser, teenage rampage, I wanna be committed, peppermint twist (a cover) and lies in your eyes. Have fun with all those 😘👌💖
Killer Sweet song! Over here in the U.K., as another commenter pointed out, the term F.A. means something else. Think of a ruder term for "nothing", and you'll probably get it. Highly recommend "Action" (a-side to Sweet F.A. 45) or "Fox Is On The Run", which are both from 1975.
Every track from Desolation Boulevard smokes! It just hit me the similarity between the Sweet FA opening and Keep Yourself Alive. A lot of Sweet/Queen musical similarity at that time. But I think Queen grabbed a lot from Sweet in the vocal harmony presentation.
Talent will pick up Rock n Roll from where it was advanced to by previous Talent, move it on a little bit & then leave it there for for future Talent to take their turn in advancing it.
Reminds me of me!!! " driving my mum and Dad mad as i played this on my then new electric guitar for days on end....perhaps i should of got out more but i was a kid and i loved it.
I know this one lol!!! Pretty fun. A big favourite from the teenage beer drinking parties I used to go to. Speaking of teenage beer drinking parties, you should listen to some Teenage Head, possibly Canada's best punk band. I would start with their Eddie Cochran cover of "Somethin' Else", but you can for sure jump right in with "Teenage Beer Drinking Party"!!!
Maybe Joey Dee's Peppermint Twist could connect it with Sweet´s cover version, after all Sweet's version was a number one in Australia in 1975..and also on Sweet FA…
Apropos nothing, there is a British review troupe called Fascinating Aïda who once released an album called 'Sweet FA'. The music of these three ladies is humorous and ribald - well worth seeking out.
The chugging riff & wild guitar solo @ the end from Andy Scott is heavily influenced by his pal Ritchie Blackmore (check out Hard Lovin Man on In Rock-Deep Purple). Cracking tune nonetheless
I am so excited to see that you are reviewing this - not yet watched it but am looking forward to watching :-) Was the second album I ever bought (after their early greatest hits album). Am a little concerned every time I see reviews of this track WRT to the lyrics - a lot of people get funny about them.
I've never heard this referred to as Sweet Fanny Adams; always thought it was Sweet F. All as well, and I guess this was a name for an album (I'm guessing in other countries), In the states this was on "Desolation Boulevard". Not sure what 'later' stuff you want to hear, but a lot of their later stuff isn't too good. This is a great upload though.
👀… in my prime I’d have left both of you in the dust .. with my hovering fingers trembling for hours , staring intently at the screen .. like a musical Greyhound waiting for the Canadian bunny to appear 😅 👍🏴
I'm going to suggest a new artist never to have been featured on the channel, Tony Christie. Avenues and alleyways. I did what i did for Maria. Amarillo. Then there's, My sweet lord, which could be featured in, " Who did it better?" Against George Harrison. If you do, Amarillo , please do the Peter Kaye video version because it's great fun. ( Not only that, but you should get loads of views , as it's mega popular)
I found myself guiltily agreeing with your choices Sir Col , no matter how far out of my usual wheelhouse it is .. 👀.. my mum used to swoon over Tony 🤦♂️.. all was well till you spoiled it with linking it with Peter Kaye and that dreadful charity song .. I swear if it gets played and they use the Kaye video instead of the original I will get a hacker to find out where you live and throw myself off the cliff into the North Sea clutching a piece of paper that said “ Sir col did this “ … 😝 👍🏴
I’m so sorry I heard this Gargantuan Prog wannabee Gash 🤦♂️… Sweet are part of my growing up process and a demarcation point in time that I pine for .. this is clearly just a bit later and sucks Mahoosive Donkey Balls , no matter the obvious instrumental genius on display . To me it’s akin to listening to Susan Boyle covering Enter Sandman .. it’s THAT jarring to me . 🤮 👍🏴
"Sleep with one eye open (yodel), gripping your pillow tight (hold on to that note and make it a high note)". Well done Susan, we let you know in due course as to whether you can replace James.
This is a good one. I like somebody reacting to less known songs, not just the obvious hits.

Drums & Bass are on fire.
Sweet FA is such a great LP.
Top Band ,and very under rated .
Along with 'Set Me Free' from the same album, this is the start of Speed Metal
The Sweet were a great band they deserved to be better known than they were.

Loved your review - would love to see you do a review of The Man With The Golden Arm - amazing drum feature.

@@TZ61 The album cover says Fanny Adams. Probably to appease the American market.
You mention their later years? To be honest, for me anyway, '74-'76 was their killer heavy rock sound period.
The riff reminds me of Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin.
Hi guys, would to see you react to the greatest songwriter ever! Leonard Cohen “closing time” official video, thanks! Love you guys
