True. The edited radio versions bother me too much to truly enjoy it. At least it still hits the spot for the newer generation getting their first exposure, but if I could, I'd immediately play her the album version. That solo must be heard.
GROOVY!! Such a "naughty" song and one of the best bass lines of all time! 🤘🤘🤘 Singer Doug Fieger wrote the lyrics from a teenage boy's point of view, although he was 25 when he met the 17-year old Sharona in real life. He did the same with his song, "Good Girls Don't", which is about a high school boy's desire to get lucky....😍
@@stevegreen7706 ... Probably not, Steve. My daughter, if I had one, would only date a good man, one who treats her with respect. In case you haven't read about Doug Fieger and his young girlfriend, they dated for four years and broke up amicably. They even remained friends afterwards.
The Knack lead singer Doug Fieger wrote the lyrics to this song, which is about a girl he fancied. Doug was in a long-term relationship when he walked into the clothing store where a high school student named Sharona Alperin (who had a boyfriend), was working. The age difference (he was about eight years older) and relationship status didn't deter Fieger, who was immediately lovestruck. With his girlfriend looking on, he invited Sharona to a show. Not long after, he broke up with the girlfriend and professed his love for Sharona, creating a weird dynamic where he would come on to her even though she had a boyfriend who often attended Knack concerts with her. It got pretty heavy when Fieger started writing songs about her - they weren't together when he composed"My Sharona." About a year after they first met, Sharona gave in and they started dating. She joined the band on tour and watched as the song Fieger wrote about her elevated them to stardom. The couple were together for about four years (and engaged at one point) before the rock and roll lifestyle and Fieger's alcoholism became too much for Sharona, and they called it off. In the aftermath, Sharona answered questions about the breakup by saying that she needed to become her own Sharona, not someone else's. After a cooling off period, Alperin and Fieger became friends. Alperin was with Fieger the last week of his life; he died of cancer on February14, 2010. Source - Songfacts
Hi Biss, thanks for the reaction, this was a very fun song. Great reaction Bisscute! This 1979 song was the turning point for the fall of disco. Later Weird Al Yankovic did a parody on it called "My Bologna". Another hit track is "Good Girls Don't". Risque at the time. Sharona was real and had the eye of lead singer Doug Fieger. I heard she is now a realtor in Southern California. 😎

This was a big hit back in 1979, the single radio version, and it does exist a longer one, in the guitar solo bridge of the song, but anyway it`s a headbanger, enjoyable one... so glad you did like it seeing your reaction, lot of fun, as well. Cheers, keep on rockin` baby girl.

It's bad enough that she's so pretty and has that super cool accent but then she acts like this too. She's just to, too awesome! Being a songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist myself, if I was playing out somewhere and I saw her in the audience doing all this, I would lose it. She's too funny! But as far as this video goes, I like this song, but it always reminds me of the lead guitar player from Motley Crue Mick Mars. The reason being is because when I watched one of his interviews, he was saying that he arrived in Los Angeles California around 1979 looking for a band. And he said that there were bands with the shorter hair, wearing suites and these thin neck ties, and he said: "I ain't doing none of that crap. I'm going to grow my hair to my ass and play the rudest, crudest rock that I can play". So, I figured he must have been making a reference to this band The Knack when he said that in the interview since The Knack came out before Motley Crue did. Great reaction job pretty Bisscute! Hi Bisscute, who could forget Sharona? And I'm not just referring to the song, but to Doug Fieger's muse, his source of inspiration at the time, Sharona Alperin. The lyrics are very direct and focus on the performer's passionate desire for someone evidently younger. It immediately stands out that although the song has a youthful and apparently light charge, the content is clearly impregnated with romantic and sexual desire, desire and obsession, youth and attraction, urgency and emotion, characteristics that coincide with the vibrant musical style of the song. I loved your reaction Bisscute, with a mischievous, playful, carefree attitude, which I think is in keeping with the theme to which you reacted. My suggestion for a next reaction is to the band Grand Funk Railroad, in their performance at Shea Stadium in 1971, performing I'm Your Captain. Greetings and a hug from Mexico City.

@@BlackieNuff Very! I remember on the radio version, they replaced the risque line with one so mild, it was laughable to those of us who heard the REAL lyrics . . .
@@rowenatulley852 I hate when they do that - replacing "risqué/offensive" lyrics with some watered-down kindergarten crap - especially when it's not even that bad. There's only ONE exception where I prefer the "clean radio edit" (or whatever you wanna call it), and that's Radiohead's Creep, where the f-bomb is removed or replaced by "very". For me, that song is like an anthem, and I don't need the cussing. I can't explain it, but it's kind of unnecessary, and slipping that in just makes it obnoxious and ruins the song. Maybe it was limited to just ONCE, it would have been okay but on every single refrain? It's just pretentious. Save the f-bombs for the ANGRY songs when a good rage is in order. LOL But that's me. I know that NO ONE else will agree.
This song blasted on the scene in 1979. I was a DJ at CITR UBC radio station. This was the campus radio station of UBC in Vancouver, which played "New Wave & Alternative Rock. Once a song made main stream radio rotation, we stopped playing it. I really liked playing "My Sharona", by the Knack, for the short time I could. It hit main stream radio very quicky and rocketed to the top of the charts. But alas, the Knack were a one hit wonder. My issue with them was that all of their songs sounded the same, especially those on their second album. Not sure if it was the music label or the band that did that, but it doomed "The Knack" to the history books as one of the biggest one hit wonders ever. What I enjoyed about your reaction is that it caused me to do some research about the song and found an interesting back story. When I was younger, I never worried about what the lyrics were saying, or the back story of a song, or even how the members of a band were, even when I was a DJ for a main stream radio station. I was only worried about the sound of the song and the way it made me feel. I realize now that was a failing on my part, but it was what it was. The one thing I know about "My Sharona", it made me want to dance and feel great!
There's nothing particularly bad about a band's songs sounding similar. Just ask AC/DC. They all just have to be bangers in their own right. There's the infamous quote from one of the AC/DC band members about making 11 albums that all sound the same, and he corrected him by saying they made 12 albums that all sound the same. If yer gonna do something, OWN it. They did, and the results speak for themselves.
Sharona is Sharona Alperin, one time girlfriend of the lead singer Doug Fieger. Sharona appears on the cover of the single for the song, holding a copy of the album "Get The Knack", that the song was on.
He married her later, but it didn't last. They were still good friends until his passing a few years back, and supposedly Sharona was at his bedside. Great reaction
@@notablindliberal896 I'm pretty sure they got together before she was 18, there is a lot of lyrics talking about "getting up for the touch of the younger kind." It was a long time ago lol.
@user-sm3ii5dk1u from what I understood, they dated before she was 18, but it never got to a sexual level until she was 18, but it was the 70s. Nothing would surprise me, and I was wrong about the marriage to begin with lol so what do I know? lol. Either way, it's a great song and a piece of music history.

Definitely a good one, and for once, I might actually recommend the LIVE (at Budokan) version over the studio version. The live version has a bit faster tempo and a little more energy, and the crowd just adds to it. The studio version is good, it just kinda pales after hearing the live version first, as I did.... hence why I always say "do STUDIO FIRST", cos if the live performance is good, it will spoil the original.
ROFL! I forgot all about that! Ahhh, Cheech & Chong. While I do not condone drugs, those two were too damn funny not to appreciate. My favorite film was The Corsican Brothers cos it had all the filthy raunchy sex and toilet humor, but no drugs. And then there was Canada's answer to Cheech & Chong : MacLean & MacLean. They were even more obscene and filthy and drug-obsessed, if you can imagine that.

ALRIGHT! LOVE "The Knack" This track is off the 1979 Title Album, "Get The Knack". As a teenager, (High-School Freshman), this was one of the first albums I bought with my own money at our local record shop. There are so many wicked, killer songs on that LP. Thanks, Madalina, for taking us on this little trip backward in time to yesteryear. You should check out the other songs on the record. Much peace and all kinds of love to you and the Fam on this channel. Big shoutout from your old, longhaired, hippy dude in the States. See y'all on the next. Later.
The Knack had their 1 hit "My Sharona" in 1979... it was remixed and became a hit again in 1994 when it was included in the Winona Ryder movie 'Reality Bites'... Doug Fieger (vocals/ guitar) wrote 'My Sharona' to win over a 17 yr old girl - Sharona Alperin... they became a couple for a while. Doug Fieger passed away in 2010 at age 57. The Knack was partially responsible for the career of Weird Al Yankovic... he recorded a parody of 'My Sharona' ('My Bologna') in 1979 playing the song w/ an accordion... Doug Fieger heard it and loved the spoof - he met w/ Weird Al (who showed up at a Knack concert w/ a big bologna 😂) and Fieger asked The Knack's label Capitol Records to release 'My Bologna' as a single that year. There was a 'power pop' craze in the late 70's/ early 80's that briefly dominated the disco era... artists like The Knack, Pat Benatar, Eddie Money, Loverboy, Billy Squire, The Cars, Blondie, Aldo Nova, etc. had huge hits w/ guitar-oriented songs... Sadly, it didn't last. The early 80's became dominated by synth pop music like Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, Flock of Seagulls, etc.
They did have a second hit from their debut album - Good Girls Don't - which just missed the Top 10. Additionally, the lead single from their second album made a brief appearance on Billboard's Top 40...but it only made it to #38, I believe.
This album just got so popular so fast when it broke, and I was in high school and a friend of mine turned me on to it and he had just bought the album after starting to hear the stuff on the radio so I went out right away and bought the album because the songs on it are so good. They had another hit off of this album, Good Girl's Don't, it's fun and has a harmonica, but make sure and do the studio because they made a chopped up radio friendly version just to be on the safe side.
I was about 14 yrs old and in the back of my grandfather's Chrysler 300 filled with family on vacation and I sang this song word-for-word and the adults turned and just "looked" at me.... Good times! =;-D

This song is about Sharona Alperin, Doug Fieger's girlfriend when he was 17 years old. She also posed for the single's picture sleeve holding a copy of the Knack's debut studio album Get the Knack.
If you've never listened to Weird Al , and were interested hearing one of his song spoofs , this is a great one to check out . The song was re-done with the title "My Bologna" 🙂
This is a true story, it hit #1 in '79. Check out "Good Girls Don't" and "She's so Selfish" from this band. Theses guys were dirty and fun. Make sure you get the original lyrics for "Good Girls Don't" as the rated PG radio lyrics are stupid.
Good Girls Don't and Baby Talks Dirty are 2 other killer songs by The Knack. Listen to the album version of this song to hear the entire guitar solo. It takes the song to the next level.
The Knack were very big in 1979-80, and were a bit of a throwback to The Beatles' era, sound and style, which also made them accessible to New Wave fans. They were also controversial, due to their "dirty" lyrics and their liberal use of iconic Beatles imagery, eg. the back cover of their first album shows them basically re-enacting the look of The Beatles' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. My one minor quibble is that the video edits down the epic lead guitar solo, but obviously that was for commercial purposes, ie. getting the song on the radio. The album version is THE version to check out, both for listening and for karaoke. ;-)
I’m here for Bisscute vs The Knack! 😂 The 1:22 eyes move killed me 🤣 you must be in a quirky mood today. If you have any guitarist friends, let them hear this full song (not the radio edit you heard in this video) and its brilliant guitar solo by Berton Averre. It is hands down one of my all time favorite guitar solos in rock history

I hate when they do that - replacing "risqué/offensive" lyrics with some watered-down kindergarten crap - especially when it's not even that bad.
LOL
But that's me. I know that NO ONE else will agree.
Love this band! One of my favorites and I even got a chance to hang with them a couple nights.
One of the most awesome guitar solos. Listen tho the album version for the longer solo
You were having soo much fun with this one Biss, I loved it.
Thank you
Epic 80's band. Beautiful song
Rolling the clock back to the good ol days! My Cherona was a Big hit! Biss you are rocking some oldies but goodies! Keep it going! Thanks Biss ❤️💛
Other songs by The Knack you should give a listen to, "Good Girls Don't" and "Baby Talks Dirty".

Your REACTIONS are the best!!! We love ya out here Biss!!! Keep up the great work! 🍻👏🤟
Thank you
Sharona is Sharona Alperin, one time girlfriend of the lead singer Doug Fieger. Sharona appears on the cover of the single for the song, holding a copy of the album "Get The Knack", that the song was on.
yup. I remember, I had that single. I thought Sharona was the hottest woman on the planet at the time LOL
A prominent song during late 70’s! Popular by beer houses that time! Love your reaction and your eyes! You’re beautiful!
Красотка Biss радует нас красивой музыкой и красивыми репортажами! Любим её чарующие эмоции и весёлый нрав! Браво, Miss Biss!❤🌹👍
Love your reaction. This came out when I was 14 & it was all over the radio & everyone in school knew it. And Sharona is a real person.
Thank you
You'll find Winona Ryder rocking out to this song in the 1994 movie "Reality Bites"
He married her later, but it didn't last. They were still good friends until his passing a few years back, and supposedly Sharona was at his bedside. Great reaction
According to Wikipedia, they were engaged, but never married.
She is in real estate now in California.
@user-sm3ii5dk1u yeah, I actually was misinformed myself. They never did marry, but we're together for a few years after she turned 18.
A Classic and a great song. Loved your reaction Biss👍👍👍 tnanks for this one. You should react more to songs like this, great years for music.

Thank you
One of the most underrated guitar solos in rock history.
I had just started DJing parties(eventually school dance and the more profitable weddings)when this came out and IMHO started the dance rock era... 😊 Yes the album version is epic with its extended guitar solo.
I was in jr. high when this came out. Heard it a lot on radio along with The Kings " This Beat Goes On/Switchin to Glide".
WTF are you talking about Biss...the staring into our souls was by far the best part of the reaction!🤗 You were definitely raised right! 💯Great song too.👍
Thank you

The Clash song often was sung at parties (when drunk) as F***k the Casbah!

Recommendation
Cheap Trick - I want you to want me
Thanks, I will add it to the list
Yep, or Gonna Raise Hell.
@@BlackieNuff dude, i was thinking the same thing...i figured biss would pick that live version because we all know see likes LIVE and "chunky" bass
@@edw1045
You mean "CHONKY" bass! LOL Gotta say it the way she does, or it doesn't count, haha.
I will never forget Cheech, of Cheech & Chong changing the lyric from My Sharona to My (body part).
" dah dah... My scrotom, donna nonna nonna donna..."
Ska-ROW-Tum!
I think that is the most repeated line from a song that isnt really the line that i ever hear.
@@BlackieNuff No way eh!! I will always love The Mackenzie Brothers eh!!
ROFL! I knew when he got to that line about "such a dirty mind", Biss was gonna give the camera a look!
Yeah, I know. We all know what that look means, lol. I pay attention. I'm ready for the exam. LOL
♫ Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind - Whoo! ♫
♫ Ma-Ma-Ma-Maaa-dalina! ♫
You are one of the only reactors I follow now, because of your upbringing and age I believe you have never heard of the classic music and movies you react to.
With this beautiful reaction of yours you overshadow this catchy song. Congratulations! 🌺
Thank you
I was 7 years old when this was new and I remember hearing it all of the time on the radio... very cool song and nice reaction.
Thank you
I saw Superjoint Ritual, one of Phil Anselmo the singer for Pantera's other bands, perform this once. It was simultaneously hilarious and completely Metal at the same time.
Bisscute es hermoso verte sonrreir!!! Ese es rock de la vieja escuela! Desde salta argentina!!!
I had this on vinyl in the late 70's!
I think it was 1979 released. I did this song for karaoke on a dare by a table full of friends and if I must admit I nailed it. People actually got up dancing.
The Knack were one-hit wonders outside North America, but what a hit to be known for! A stompin' classic.
You want to know how popular this song was? Weird Al Yankovick parodied it: “My Bologna”.
until today, i only knew weird als version, not the original ^^
She's a Beauty - The Tubes
Shock the Money - Peter Gabriel
Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant
Rock Me Amadeus - Falco
Puttin' On the Ritz - Taco
Thank you for the suggestions
Super Freak - Rick James
1:21 Damn near fell out of my chair 😭😭
The version that you reacted to , has the short guitar solo. Look for the one with long guitar solo version. 🎸
The 80s was all about dance clubs and dancing and having a great time. Always love your reactions!
Thank you
This album just got so popular so fast when it broke, and I was in high school and a friend of mine turned me on to it and he had just bought the album after starting to hear the stuff on the radio so I went out right away and bought the album because the songs on it are so good.
They had another hit off of this album, Good Girl's Don't, it's fun and has a harmonica, but make sure and do the studio because they made a chopped up radio friendly version just to be on the safe side.
If you’re thinking “that guitar riff sounds familiar” … you’re not wrong as this track was sampled by Run DMC for their track “It’s Tricky” … 😁👍🏻
this was a hit back in 79 great reaction 😁
Thank you
I was about 14 yrs old and in the back of my grandfather's Chrysler 300 filled with family on vacation and I sang this song word-for-word and the adults turned and just "looked" at me.... Good times! =;-D
Great song! Love it ❤
True
When this song came out it probably played at least eight times a day on the radio. There is a longer version of this song.
You seem to enjoy my style of Rock n Roll often Biss, I recommended it already by Switchin to Glide - The Kings would probably be right up your ally.
Also Innoncence - by Harlequin
It got pretty heavy when Fieger started writing songs about her - they weren't together when he composed"My Sharona."
About a year after they first met, Sharona gave in and they started dating.

This song is about Sharona Alperin, Doug Fieger's girlfriend when he was 17 years old. She also posed for the single's picture sleeve holding a copy of the Knack's debut studio album Get the Knack.
They met when Sharona was 17, and he was 25.

A great song Miss Bisscutie. It brings back memories of my young adult days.
Thank you
This is a true story, it hit #1 in '79. Check out "Good Girls Don't" and "She's so Selfish" from this band. Theses guys were dirty and fun. Make sure you get the original lyrics for "Good Girls Don't" as the rated PG radio lyrics are stupid.
good call on getting the original "Good Girls Don't" and not the PG radio edit.
Also, guitar solo on the album version crushes the single version !!!!
GOOD GIRLS DON’T (But I Do)!
Maybe in the future
Definitely Good Girls Don't (but I do) original version. Great reaction to this one as always! 💖
I remember getting the single in 79. Classic rock song. 👍
Just a fun naughty song! Htg Bisscutie, youre gonna make a man fall in love looking into my eyes that close like that!! lol 🧡🧡
