The world's best kept secret is that The Kinks' 'Father Christmas' is the greatest Christmas song ever. Dave's certainly having fun. I quite like the Creamers' version which I haven't heard before. I bet they flippin' LOVE the Kinks. Fair play to them - this is further evidence, if any were needed, of how the punks loved the Kinks (and the Who).
The original by 'The Kinks' has quite a Punk message and sound before Punk so, it's no surprise that there's a Punk version of it, the cover was good but my favourite is the original by Ray, Dave and Co.

Whoa yas did the the Creamers! what a forgotten amazing band. 100% a great late 80s/early 90s punk band. Still gotta go with the original as my fav - but the Creamers version still rules. C CJ Ramone did a great version did a great version in the late 2010s as well. Great song in general.
The kinks amongst the Pioneer's of the British guitar bands , love it, but I did enjoy the second one, so it's a draw for me, I'm not suggesting that the kinks were the best guitar band, because we all know the best ever, in the complete history of ever were indeed American 🏴✌️
It's definitely not beginning to feel a lot like Christmas for me so far. If I can't make it through the first song, I don't think the comparison is going to work for me.
Yes, I like how the Kinks put a lot of work into the video to a festive theme, and the music of course. Really the Creamers have just ripped off their song for pure monetary gain. I do not respect that.
Monetary gain? They recorded it as a b-side to their independently-released single "Bob Kringle" in 1990 and it was limited to 2000 copies. Also, how do you "rip off" a cover song? It's a cover....
I didn't even have to listen to know it would be the Kinks. After listening, not even close. The remake is just....blah. Too fast. Monotonic, almost robotic. No inflection or emotion in the vocals.
When I saw The Kinks live in 1979 they opened with You Really Got Me ... Ray proclaiming " This is our fuc*ing song " 🎸

I tried to write a Christmas song and it ended up being a song about a lonely old person dying. The idea of seasonal joy somewhat escaped me.
