@Academy of Ideas Would you ever consider approaching Philosophers like Deleuze and perhaps make a whole serie on A thousand Plateau? It's both a recommendation and an invitation, in hope that you get to feel the ritual-like experience this book was to me, and open a door to redefining Phenomenology, Ontology, Desire, Dichotomies, Archetypal figures (A few Jungian, Lacanian and Freudian ideas are reworked), a nice spinozism code and a few discussions of many dictatorships of signs that dominates the west and modernity; to become becomings and becoming-animals, outsiders, ''anomal'', lines of flight... '' The two of us wrote Anti-Oedipus together. Since each of us was several, there was already quite a crowd. Here we have made use of everything that came within range, what was closest as well as farthest away. We have assigned clever pseudonyms to prevent recognition. Why have we kept our own names? Out of habit, purely out of habit. To make ourselves unrecognizable in turn. To render imperceptible, not ourselves, but what makes us act, feel and think. Also because it’s nice to talk like everybody else, to say the sun rises, when everybody knows it’s only a manner of speaking. To reach, not the point where one no longer says I, but the point where it is no longer of any importance whether one says I. We are no longer ourselves. Each will know his own. We have been aided, inspired, multiplied. '' :D Anyways love your content!
Aoi, thank you for your work on TH-cam. you've been hitting me right where I live, but this topic especially resonates with me. You mentioned personality traits that frighten or disgust others. Could you elaborate? Some of us have virtually no knowledge of the social graces.
Before I even watch your stupid half wit video, I'm going to make a couple "educated" guesses on what your "brilliant" minds are capable of creating in your over-paid lazy excuse for a career. Let's see, all social cues are learned social beahviors; accepted by society, supported by society. They believe they serve for vital function, they're comfortable with these methods, and will attack, gaslight, invalidate, and seperate from anyone who questions these forms. All of these forms lead back to your belief that all living existence is fundamentally nihilistic (from your perspective) and all roads lead back to sex and money (again we're thinking for your half capable brain) Let's watch and see if this is in fact true...
I can honestly say, there is not 1 single channel on TH-cam that deserves the success this one has seen. No talk head, no inflated ego, just quality production values and honest interpretation of classic psychology. I remember this channel being roughly 20k subscribers think “this place is gonna be huge.”

@Ed M I read "deceptive rewards" and many things come to mind: reputation, self-satisfaction, material advantage, social status, praise ... I read "real rewards" and think of: the integration of one's inner rascal, meaningful relationships, inner peace, being able to see the funny side of life and revel in it...
@Ed M playing a video game and beat your friends in it, it takes a lot of time to hone your skills in competitive gaming without any actual result until you want to be an esports star or a streamer. There are a lot of other for eg: wearing an underwear of someone's name in it( for some self esteem reason a person wearing this give in their defense)
It's amazing just how much you other people shape up our realities, perceptions and view of life (sometimes even when we think they aren't). For a whole 27 years my view of life has been shaped by people or factors outside of myself, what a shame. Wearing that mask 24/7 and 100% of the time is not really living, you are merely reacting to life. I just noticed that if I were aware of my self deception way earlier on in my life I would go in the opposite direction, a direction created wholly by me based on my strengths, weaknesses, character and choices. Curve out your own path and follow it all the way to the end, wherever it takes you, for that is the only life worth living.
But we are social creatures by nature. We operate within a dynamic. This includes your character and function within the social mechanism. Why analyze and overthink that which is natural? It is not reaction, it is participation.
I love the fact that these video's appear at just the right moment. When I look at the comments, there's always someone saying the same thing. Your videos have always been a huge inspiration for me to double down on the Promethean task of developing my own creative musical way of life Bless you

Never has there been so much information and access to it, a community for support, channels like this where entire books are chewed up for you to consume for free. Play it over and over whenever you need reminding, and it’ll increase your progress exponentially. My favorite part for this one was the emphasis on body language > speech (it’s not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it)
Thank you for this. I've seen countless videos that state how being an introvert and a self confined personality is okay most people don't realize that humans have always been social creatures. That's how we have survived for millions of years.
I think introverts have acquaintances and friends too,it is just that they choose depth over superficiality. But yeah,I agree that they should try to get out of their comfort zones to voice their ideas and opinions, if in reality it really benefits them and realizes their potential.
I don't even know whether you look at the comments or not, But I have to say that your videos have been helping a lot to understand myself and life thus waning my depression away. Thank you a lot for producing those high-quality videos, you're awesome!
I find it truly amazing that you are able to articulate my recent thoughts at just the right time, every time. The first few times your videos did this I thought it was merely an uncanny coincidence. I have since revised my position on this after having read the comments on almost all of your videos, it seems there is consensus among the community that I am not alone in this thinking. I have since begun to ponder the idea that perhaps these thoughts reside in a collective consciousness, shared and accessed by those who's thoughts and energy operate on that same frequency; and you just so happen to be the thought leader manifesting the content I need to understand the deeper philosophical and psychological meaning that underwrite these thoughts, but furthermore, also a way in which I can positively apply them to understand, and to grow; and for that, I am infinitely thankful. I have since become very interested in the interconnectedness and external nature of thought itself, so if anybody has any interesting resources for me to explore this further it would be greatly appreciated.
away from the herd one can discover god, and channel this higher consciousness through our works of art, some of the best poets, painters, musicians, sages and philosophers knew this magic. Stay strong, humble quiet and let god consciousness seek you and flow through your very essence
I dont know if Robert Greene is the best reference you can pick. To me, his books drive you to an utilitarian approach to people which will be unfulfilling anyways...
Robert Greene does not drive you to anywhere, you drive yourself there, . . . . He just explains human nature, whether you use it to manipulate people or to be aware of people around you is up to you.
Your message and the philosophy you reference is much needed nowadays. I feel like a lot of people are confusing giving up on lifes challanges, with accepting who they are, and as such, enabling themselves to stop growing up.
Keep doing what you do, i love this channel. This year has presented more challenges than the last 28 combined. Because of videos like yours its been formative rather than crushing. Content like yours has helped me help myself far more than any therapist could have and in a much faster time. Thank you.
I'm always ridiculed by telling it like I see it. I'm often offending people, I'm not much for empathy. I think people's anger towards me is they don't know how to take responsibility for what I bring to the surface. The deeply rooted idiosyncratic short comings.
Solitude Guy I’ve dealt with this by trying to calibrate my conversations with others, to give them only as much of myself as I think they can handle. Don’t know if that helps you specifically but I figured I would put it out there
This was so helpful for me! Thanks for making it. I have been struggling a lot with being too introverted and avoiding social interaction at all costs. Going through a bit of a phase in that aspect... it's starting to be a little worrisome, I almost feel agoraphobic. I'll try to follow some of this advice!
This brings to mind a quote from that new video on TH-cam's trending page about tipping in restaurants. Goes like "I don't tip because I'm not a coward"-- which is hilarious and goes hand in hand with this video essay's themes. Just in ordering food or eating out in America, the consumer foists upon themselves the expectations of the age; all of a sudden you're scrambling, looking for change, trying to make sure you don't commit the social crime of not taxing yourself the arbitrary costs of your server's expectations-- basically bribing the establishment/individual out of fear of recusal, or the development of a reputation that might condone an illegal tampering with your food, or a decline in [quality] service, solely because of the toxic, preeminent culture surrounding and inducing the practice. It's a microcosm of the world of human social dynamics; and defiance necessitates courage, individual sovereignty. Tough to want to be a part of this world sometimes. There's so much of that, lol.
I disagree with the assessment that tipping waiters is a toxic culture done out of fear. I personally tip because many waiters and servers are underpaid by their jobs, and no to little tips can hurt someone's financials for the month. Tipping, in the current economy, serves to support fellow citizens who are being paid below minimum wage. In addition, tipping is typically done when the meal is finished, so there can be little repercussion for that specific meal on that day. Unfortunately, I do agree that most tip out of feeling obligated. And I agree that /other/ social rules and mores are complete BS and shouldn't be followed. I just value anything that supports the community.
Dante Catching it’s predicated on a broken system, which is explained in depth by the video that I was referencing. The fact that you have to feel pity is a symptom of that malignancy. Tipping is almost unilaterally an American culture that thrives because of the precedence produced via employers’ collective reluctance to pay staff livable wages. It doesn’t exist in Australia, most of Europe- the rest of the world- they just pay their staff. It’s pretty indicative of toxicity when feelings, such as pity or fear, get involved in transactions; the only obligation on the side of the consumer (in a healthy system) should be payment for services rendered- not a humanitarian concern for the worker rendering the service. They should be left out. I’m not trying to think about a stranger’s hypothetical socioeconomic strife every time I order a pizza. I’m ordering food for the food, not for the experience of the delivery. And who wants to play the role of the good tipper vs the bad tipper? I didn’t ask to play a role, I just wanted pizza. Charge what you will for the delivery, but why predicate that payment upon moral and cultural abstractions? How did ordering a pizza become philosophical? This is why automation’s going to win, lmao
in most states in the U.S. food servers are paid $2.01 or some other minimal wage with the intent that they do a good job and the customer pays the rest.. good service 20% bad service 10% so it isn't classically a socially directed effort but one of paying for what you received. it was never about livable wages, there are places that pay the wait staff in full and tipping is not part of the process but you pay for shitty service whether you want to or not.
I can’t watch this til tonight but ur in my top 5 places to come learn man. I’ve been reading a lot of shit lately on the psychology of socializing, studying and practices for so many years have pretty much turned me into a mountain hermit, just reading books and hiking with my dogs, it’s the realest place to me lately, but I don’t want to leave for good. I miss people.
I’ll just ritually watch this video until I feel either comfortable making new friends or simply stop caring, which I don’t really see happening. Music is my passion and brings me joy in life, but if I didn’t have my one really close friend, I can’t even imagine how I’d fair in the world. The void of not having a larger social circle + being paranoid about people is a lot to deal with at times, but i know it could be much worse.
As a huge fan of your work, this video has affected me the most. 4 listens so far. Wish I had heard this 20 years ago. Please maintain your high quality of output.
thank you for everything, without a doubt the youtube channel that has helped me the most, your videos give me a type of guidance that I would always dream about in my lowest life periods, you've given me what I've always wished I had, I owe you a lot and I promise you I'll use your teachings in best way possible
Wow.. this video feels like it was build from my current few core believes - which i call fears.. yet the way it was formed (video) has symbolic value of progressing my own individuality - great work...
I was aware of this, however feared that it would lead to my downfall or lead others to look over me. However now I have learned that ‘making yourself like clay’ is a good thing and will be beneficial through out life.
'an artist in creating urself' thanx! im gunna use that to rewire my brain next time im daunted by the hardwork ahead of me. it doesnt have to b hardwork, i can choose to have fun with it as a creative project :)
I don't think we can mimic the body language of confident men without coming across as inauthentic. Confidence is something that must manifest itself organically, otherwise others will intuitively pick up on both the falsehood and the force fullness of it's portrayal.
This is an incredible description of the social world. You nailed it. I always would fall into the idea that my character was what mattered. The persona is separate. Good work
Great video like always. I am so thankfull that this channel exists. Reflecting about the evolution of my own character and persona, I noticed though how important the part about Goethe is, where it says that you should not focus too on your impression on others... I used to be very socialy akward, even frightened in the face of many social situations. This of course is an obstacle to a fulfilling live and thus I tried to overcome it. My first step was to try to appear less akward. So I focused on my appearance and body language. I tried to be "cool". Later though I noticed that this is not the way. It seemed not authentic and somehow I felt like hiding myself behind this mask (my appaearance...) Hiding though is to me a signal or a symptom of weakness or fear. Thus then I decided to try to be honest. I tryed to show myself with all (or at least most of) my weaknesses. I thought this would be a sign of strength. I tried to use this sincerity as a kind of shield. Because as long as you openly speak about sth in a mor or less confident way, who could use it against you. So trying this I noticed that some people (often the rather dull ones) saw this openness as a kind of weakness, others saw it sometimes as a sign of little confidence or even submissiveness. But in general it worked well and the people (rather profound or sensitiv ones) that I liked to be around reacted well. But the most important thing is that I started to feel well and comfortable about myself. This stand has helped me a lot in my life as beforehand I was always hiding bihnd the social mask. No I think that as long as you dont show your true self or at least a part of it its impossible to create a real connection between people. It would be a superficial and somehow fake connection of the social masks and not a profound one that comes from the heart and connects on a profound level. Every illness has its remedy. What I described, te stand of openness and not playing a role, helped me a lot with my issues. I hope that it could serve as an inspiration for someone with similar issues who is hiding too much behind his mask and perhaps is trying to be a "cool" rather than a warm and open person.
As a young man leaving my small home town to attend a far away college, I was free of the local definition of myself. I soon realized all of the freshmen there were also and that everyone was so concerned with hiding their own faults that they had no time to observe & judge yours. This freedom from having to conform to your previous defined self and not fear stepping outside that defined self was exhilarating! Free to find and become as you wish to be.
Your videos are a breath of fresh air in a TH-cam niche that has become so very stale. It feels like every video of yours leaves me questioning fundamental ideas about myself. Thank you for the wonderful content.
This really is such an incredible channel, producing so much value for so many people! Keep doing what you're doing, knowing that you are sharing the great wisdom of the past in such an understandable, enjoyable and accessible manner! Lots of love xox
Very well articulated, excellent orally and grammatically presented and well chosen representative illustrations. Your videos are especially directly relevant to today's society and an inspiration to those who endeavour to heed the guidance of the philosophies.
Mostly I guess its because of the relatedness that these videos communicate that makes them appealing also they’re very well organized and presented, but the beauty lies in the perfect timing that they are posted...
As I have seen many people write that these videos are uploaded at the perfect time matching their own situation, I might say it is because the society in general is lacking this kind of knowledge and wisdom. As today, the social media is focused into empowering people's mask, the unintegrated mask and it feels like a pathological issue. This channel seems to be an antidote for the pathology, for, the best antidote always is self-examination/discovery.
I usually am the quiet one in social group situations. Listening helps me to understand who among the group is trying so hard for admiration from others. I tend to go away from those who seek fame, and those who provide fame.
I love you Academy of Ideas! Such insightful videos that are useful and relevant to my life. The timing of the topics discussed are often shockingly relevant to my life personally! This video is no exception. Keep up the great work!
It should be remarked that an acute distaste for the company of others is a legitimate thing wholly separate from any fear of social activity, and to conduct oneself while mistaking either for the other is perilous at best and disastrous at worst. Also, consciously mimicking the behaviors of others to fit in is legitimately psychopathic behavior. Love yourself. Stand up straight. Always be forthright.
Through my learning of who I am. I realized this one truth in regards to conformity and the status quo. Do not seek to earn the respect and validation of others, but instead ask yourself. "Are you EARNING YOUR OWN RESPECT daily? There are many who desire the respect of others so, deeply they unconsciously trade off the charactaristics that provide them with "self-admiration". We earn our own admiration when we sincerely be who we are without deceit. We may think we are fooling others but we're not and it's for that reason conformity can be self-defeating.

Here you go .. th-cam.com/video/kioELu80KPg/w-d-xo.html
away from the herd one can discover god, and channel this higher consciousness through our works of art, some of the best poets, painters, musicians, sages and philosophers knew this magic. Stay strong, humble quiet and let god consciousness seek you and flow through your very essence

these videos make difficult feelings so clear, never stop
I dont know if Robert Greene is the best reference you can pick. To me, his books drive you to an utilitarian approach to people which will be unfulfilling anyways...
Robert Greene does not drive you to anywhere, you drive yourself there, . . . . He just explains human nature, whether you use it to manipulate people or to be aware of people around you is up to you.
Years pass by, and this guy has the same voice as always. Great content man. Thanks. Keep it up!
It's amazing how you seem to always post the right things at the right time, thank you.
Your message and the philosophy you reference is much needed nowadays. I feel like a lot of people are confusing giving up on lifes challanges, with accepting who they are, and as such, enabling themselves to stop growing up.
This channel is forwarding my life!! I'm sure alot of us feel the same! Thank u for it! 🙏🏽
Keep doing what you do, i love this channel. This year has presented more challenges than the last 28 combined. Because of videos like yours its been formative rather than crushing. Content like yours has helped me help myself far more than any therapist could have and in a much faster time. Thank you.
In the cesspool of narcissim that is youtube, you are one of the few worthwhile producers
So eloquent, so well made. Thank you so much for giving voice to my abstract feelings.
Don’t know if that helps you specifically but I figured I would put it out there
Prolly not gonna get much ass with that approach, ijs.
social skills are the mastery of your unconscious actions
Asperger's brought me here. 'Daunting' is a good word for it, yes.
Right before my first speech in speech class. Great timing. Thank you
Love the new format of the videos. Always a pleasure to see a new one come out.
Cristiana Pop how are you doing now???

Empowering awareness; we can make ourselves into who we want to be. I love these videos the ideas and the accompanying art!
Artists molding ourselves. Still my favorite channel.
Why is it that these videos... Are always the most inspiring thing that I have ever watched... Everytime.
I really appreciate this piece of art and wisdom. Please continue doing what you do, you help me understand the world.
I love how this channel goes straight to the deepest points, every word with purpose
I love the artwork you use to explain the lecture. Honestly it fits perfectly
You guys are either soothsayers, or the TH-cam recommendation algorithm is really just superb.
As a socially challenged individual I have committed to listening to this once every morning such that I can recreate my own character.
This is great! Your videos are helping me a great deal in understanding both myself and the world around me.
thank you for everything, without a doubt the youtube channel that has helped me the most, your videos give me a type of guidance that I would always dream about in my lowest life periods, you've given me what I've always wished I had, I owe you a lot and I promise you I'll use your teachings in best way possible
Wow.. this video feels like it was build from my current few core believes - which i call fears.. yet the way it was formed (video) has symbolic value of progressing my own individuality - great work...
one of the best channels on youtube
Best TH-cam channel.
I was aware of this, however feared that it would lead to my downfall or lead others to look over me. However now I have learned that ‘making yourself like clay’ is a good thing and will be beneficial through out life.
"Most people are more likely to be stuck in their own heads than thinking about how others are behaving..." 💯
'an artist in creating urself' thanx! im gunna use that to rewire my brain next time im daunted by the hardwork ahead of me. it doesnt have to b hardwork, i can choose to have fun with it as a creative project :)
It seems like these videos always come exactly when I need them to face something or understand something in my life. Thank you!
I don't think we can mimic the body language of confident men without coming across as inauthentic. Confidence is something that must manifest itself organically, otherwise others will intuitively pick up on both the falsehood and the force fullness of it's portrayal.
This channel is fantastic. As usual right in timing with my life.Wow.
Never stop educating people, you are doing a wonderful job with your channel
Most definitely the best video I've ever watched on TH-cam
What if someone didnt have the opportunity for this seperation or initiation? What if one is still stuck in their parents house in their early 20s?
Hell yes, that was affirming. I'm a reformed social outcast on the road to greater self-realization and socialization. Very helpful video.
Wishing these insights had reached me twenty years ago. Thanks for the high quality content my dude.
This is the clearest description of persona I have heard!
Your videos are a breath of fresh air in a TH-cam niche that has become so very stale. It feels like every video of yours leaves me questioning fundamental ideas about myself. Thank you for the wonderful content.
Wow...this video arrives right as I am inadvertently reforming my social self. And yet this video still has info I can use. Thanks for this topic.
This really is such an incredible channel, producing so much value for so many people! Keep doing what you're doing, knowing that you are sharing the great wisdom of the past in such an understandable, enjoyable and accessible manner! Lots of love xox
Excellent video. Glad to see you incorporating Greene's work into your videos. He is (quietly) one of the greatest philosophers of our day.
The Kiekegaard quote gave me a chuckle.
The Robert Greene quote at the end is perfectly placed. Well done!
Damn I thought the same thing, it gave me the chills
Very well articulated, excellent orally and grammatically presented and well chosen representative illustrations. Your videos are especially directly relevant to today's society and an inspiration to those who endeavour to heed the guidance of the philosophies.
Mostly I guess its because of the relatedness that these videos communicate that makes them appealing also they’re very well organized and presented, but the beauty lies in the perfect timing that they are posted...
i always meditate and simmer in your educational work. Right until the next upload. Love you guys !
One of the best channels on TH-cam , thank you.
really enjoyed this one.
reminds me that I need to work on my social skills more
I usually am the quiet one in social group situations. Listening helps me to understand who among the group is trying so hard for admiration from others. I tend to go away from those who seek fame, and those who provide fame.
I actually expected the video to be on Albert Camus' The Outsider/The Stranger, but this is a fine video by any standard. Great work!
Academy of Ideas is the closest I will ever get to an Ivy league education. Thank you so much
There is a channel here on TH-cam called Charisma on Command. They go into further detail about building social skills and do so by examining others.
This channel is amazing every video is therapy
"it makes you in essence an astist-an astist creating yourself" love you guys, great job!
Again you have helped me shape my world view and character, thank you!
Encountered this at the right time. Very grateful. Helps a lot.
