Nice hearing his voice. Unfortunately, the interviewer wanted to hear his own voice more than he wanted to hear Brushy Bill's. But it was very interesting. He didn't have the extreme accent that I expected from listening to civil war veterans and other old time westerners from the late 1800"s. Thanks so much for sharing.

I used to study Billy the Kid when I was a teen/young adult. I personally believe Brushy was Billy. Being able to hear that voice was a thrill! I live less than 100 miles from Hico and I’ve gotta say, Brushy sounds like so many of these old timers around here. Not just the accent, but the actual way he was talking.

I was born in the old Hico hospital and spent at least 1 week in there every year for the 1st 10 years of my life due to recurring pneumonia, so most of the nurses in the hospital new me and treated me like one of their own and once I had begun recovering they would sometimes carry me around to elderly patient's rooms to try and cheer them up a little since my stays were usually around Christmas.
Sometimes when those elderly patients were able, they would come see me in my room when I wasn't feeling well enough to come visit them.
As a result, one of those elderly patients told me that "Billy the Kid" was his neighbor, but had been known locally as Brushy Bill, hence my almost lifelong fascination with the story of Brushy Bill Robert's.
I also witnessed my 1st and only Klan rally from one of those hospital room windows, which reminds me of a black hospital orderly named George that comforted me a lot before a hernia operation , when my mom explained to me what the Klucker parade was all about, I wanted to go kick some Klucker ass for George, but dragging an IV along ended up being the argument my mom finally used that shut me down.

What i don't understand is why an old man would claim to be someone wanted for a death sentence. I think he claimed to be Billy because he was billy. He wanted the promised pardon before he died.It was hard to understand this clip but hearing the voice was awesome. A very well investigated and well done book. In my mind this is America's greatest mystery. And the truth is, it will never be solved.

Brushy didn't come out as the Kid until 1950 and by then Doc had passed away. Also, Brushy really didn't ever "come out" publicly. He went privately in front of the Governor and the Governor turned it into a media circus. The newspapers wanted an interview with Brushy after and he would not give one. He did not want publicity, he wanted his pardon.

Another great video Dan and just loved hearing Brushy Bill/Billy the kid’s voice after all these years! :) . Someone commented before saying that Brushy has been proved time and time again not to be Billy the kid and that the serious Billy the kid experts easily dismiss him and the evidence against him is substantial! :/ let me just say this to those people………..you are entitled to your opinion but incorrect! As someone who as been researching Billy the kid for the last 26 years or so take it from me Mr Roberts was indeed Billy the kid and the evidence for him far far outweighs that Pat Garrett killed him! Finally a lot of these experts don’t fully understand historically context as Mr Edwards stated before and don’t always see things for how they really are!. Mr Dan Edwards In my opinion however is one who truly understands the facts and really knows his stuff as far as Brushy/Billy is concerned and wouldn’t state something so strongly unless the evidence fully supported it! :) . So again thank you Dan for always seeking and stating the facts and thanks again for sharing this awesome video clip! :). Do you think we will ever get to hear the audio recordings Morrison made of Brushy as I’d say that they would be an incredible listen! :) .

Most of the serious researchers know one fact about Brush being outed as Bill the kid was this meeting right here. Jessie was coming out, and he is the one who got the press on Brushys tail. Brushy was very loyal to Jessie. I have followed the Dalton trail and you realize Granbury Texas is the town J Frank Dalton passed away in was the next town over from HICO. The Billy the kid museum in Hico is cool but they have a solid copper department store cash register from like 1920s. It is from an old wolworth store that is cool and It still works too.

Hard to know what the truth really is...One of the Regulators Grandson's just visited my store recently....and there was another mysterious funeral for possibly his grand-daughter about 30 years ago all here in New Mexico. Many people in New Mexico believe it is just an attempt by Texas to steal a valuable piece of local history. Anyway Chavez y Chavez told me his grandpa said Billy use to shoot a deer and share it with the locals, and he was very generous. Meanwhile, I also know the Granddaughter of Pat Garrett is writing a book that her Grandfather shot the real Kid, she said she had more evidence....I am not sure if she ever got the book finished in Las Vegas, NM.....I guess Bushy's DNA test was fairly close? 91% accurate? I heard the Governor may have even been convinced that Brushy was the Kid, but the loss of tourism would have been too great for Fort Sumner. Just my ramblings from someone that has lived around Billy the Kid Country for a long time.

It has been done several times and the results vary depending on the program and the person. One expert says its "highly likely" they are the same and another will say "unlikely". One show I was on the guy aged the photo before comparison which right there discredits the analysis because value judgements are made during the aging process. AI is helpful but human judgement is still considered superior. I am working with police forensic facial recognition experts right now on this very thing. It would be interesting, to see if Brushy's account of what happened when Pat Garrett supposedly killed Billy the Kid could be verified. Namely, that Billy heard the shots, came out and was firing at Garrett and the deputies, but was himself struck by several bullets. Maybe that's one reason Garrett wanted to get out of town quickly after the killing (knowing they were in hostile territory). But you would think it would be mentioned somewhere?

Billy the Kid and Jesse James did not know one another. Billy the Kid and his family moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1863, and Billy the Kid spent most of the rest of his life in the southwest region, in the New Mexico and Arizona territory. James, on the other hand, was born and raised in Missouri. Jesse was also over 10 years older than Billy. There is no recorded evidence that Jesse James and Billy the Kid ever met each other.

I've been studying Btk since 1991.
I have so much saved on him it's unreal..
You literally quoted the very first thing that pops up on Google when asking that question.
      But here ya go.....
On Sunday, July 26, 1879, Jesse James stayed at the Old Adobe Hotel in Hot Springs, near Las Vegas, New Mexico. Also there that day was none other than the Billy the Kid. Around dinner time, a friend of Billy, Dr. Henry F. Hoyt entered the dining room. There, he saw his friend Billy eating dinner with a man who was going by the name of Mr. Howard. Billy invited Hoyt to join them, and Hoyt did. On July 29, Jesse James left the hotel. After James left, Billy told Hoyt that Mr. Howard was Jesse James. Billy also said that James asked him to come back with him to Missouri to join James's new gang. Billy turned him down, saying he wasn't that interested in robbing banks, trains, and stage coaches. Many doubt that this event really happened, but there is much evidence that it did. First of all, there is Hoyt's word. There would be no point in him lying about it and everyone that knew him said he was always honest. Future New Mexico Governor Miguel Otero also said he saw the two outlaws eat together in the dining room. Second, there is proof that Jesse was at least staying at the Old Adobe Hotel from July 26 through July 29, as it was announced in the newspaper. Third, Jesse's most used alias was Mr. Thomas Howard. Fourth, at this time, Jesse was prospecting many different places for his family to move to, and New Mexico as one of the places he prospected. Fifth, the Old Adobe Hotel was owned and operated by W. Scott Moore, who was born and raised in Kearney, Missouri and was a known boyhood friend of Jesse, so Jesse might have also been there visiting his friend Moore.
ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS 5 MINS MORE OF TRUE DUE DILIGENCE TO FIND IT.

The thing I don’t understand is why was there never a death photo taken??? Don’t u think they would have taken a picture of billy before they buried him. I mean he was one of the most famous outlaws of all time. And there’s no photo of his body.

    • @aliasbillythekid
      @aliasbillythekid  ปีที่แล้ว

There are some reasonable explanations for why a photo MAY not have been taken, mostly around the availability of photographers and the time it would take to get to Sumner. However, the first newspaper article says the Kid was disguised as a Mexican with a beard and that he had STAINED his skin brown. In other words the body looked like a dead Mexican with a beard. I believe because it WAS a dead Mexican with a beard and not the Kid. So, I understand why they wouldn't have taken a photo because it would show what the newspaper said. Also, Garrett was denied his reward and arrest warrants were issued twice after he "got the Kid" so what does that tell us?

In my opinion I think he is billy the kid because I heard someone close to both pat Garrett and Billy said that when pat shot the man he thought was Billy after seeing the corpse said I shot the wrong one and told one of Billy's friends to tell billy to disappear and never return and so pat decided to instead claim that he did indeed shoot billy the kid that night and that Billy was dead and to further that pat and billy were actually friends before and pat was said to not really want to kill billy but was forced to hunt him and when an opportunity came to say he's dead he took it to spare his friend and the person who said all this was actually unbiased and had nothing to lose or gain

I listened to William Tunstill interview Ola Everhard who is a relative of Jesse James and she makes the same claims as told here. As Arte Johnson would say "very interesting". She said a guy named Bigelow was killed by Bob Ford not Jesse and she has a letter written to her by Ford's niece claiming that the Ford brothers would never have shot Jesse, they were first cousins and that Bigelow belonged to the Slade gang and was disliked by Jesse because every time Bigelow pulled a robbery he used Jesse's name. She said the alias that was used by Jesse, James Frank Dalton was chosen by Jesse saying he used his sir name as his first, his brothers first name and Dalton was his mother's maiden name. She went on to say at one time Jesse was wounded in the shoulder and sought help from someone who he had fought in the Civil War with and both had rode for Quantrill's Raiders his name was James Roberts, BTK's father and that's how Jesse and Billy met and became friends. At the time Jesse was about 12-15yrs older than Billy and Billy was only 7 at that time. Ola claims she has letters of evidence from family members about a lot of what she claims

Anybody ever read Bill O-Reilly's Legends and Lies: The Real West? This is where it was said. Also, Bill O'Reilly does suggest though that there is more evident to support he was Billy the Kid, then wasn't. I wonder why Courts refuse to exhume the two gravesites, to compare the DNA? His focusing on that stupid pardon seemed to me like he did it to try to make his case more legitimate for being Billy the kid. See see look, I'm Billy the kid because I still want my pardon. It's dumb!! After all that time, no one knew who he was anyway, so what difference did it make for home to pardoned. No one was after him, he wasn't being chased. He had obviously lived out the rest of his days in peace, so why focus on a pardon after all that time. It's just dumb, only a dumb person would keep up with trying to do that. Brushy has a square jaw which juts and Billy had a lower, more pointed jaw that angled more towards the throat. The earlobe bottoms got smaller with age - that simply doesnt happen. And on top of everything else, the eyes of Brushy Bill are more deep set. I could be wrong, but I cannot see them as the same man from my experience as a portrait painter.

I know for a fact Pat never killed Billy the Kid and that Young guns II, the story of brushy Bill, in 1987 matched the story my cousin told me in 1980 when he was 100 yrs old and Percival Hagerman used to play euchre with Pat and JJ Hagerman because Pat disliked poker and everyone played it down there. Percy said Billy was 20 yrs older than him which would make him 120+ when he told me but kept his secret the whole time, figuring Billy was dead, he could finally tell the story as he was protecting Billy the whole time as Pat passed in 1908 (JJ Hagerman passed in 1909) Pat told the truth because he trusted the Hagerman's and never trusted his own family with the truth. He was right.

I was told as close to the horse's mouth as possible, that Pat and Bill were friends and Pat saying, why would I kill him?

Percy was even an Olympian at the World's Fair in 1904 in Atlanta.

@@aliasbillythekid Not much more to say, basically after a card game percy asked Pat if he shot billy the Kid and Pat said, you would have to get me good and drunk before i ever spilled the beans, so after Percy finished the Olympics, he bought a ton of booze and went to New Mexico and got Pat, good and drunk, and he began by saying I do not even trust my own family with this information, and it has to be kept secret to protect Billy but trusted the Hagermans to keep it a secret and they did until 1987 with just myself so still a public secret until I starting posting about it around 2010 - the story about the regulators being deputized and such and to beat the corruption in Law became the Lawman to take down "The Circle" of corruption. But they got Hagerman in the end anyway from far away with the Sherman Silver Purchase act to stop JJ and Pat from turning the desert green for new immigrants because Texas oil barrens saw the oil pointed towards New Mexico and they wanted that desert and for themselves on the cheap and green pastures meant much higher costs, if you look at New Mexico oil wells today, you can see the oil reserve under Hagerman's old lands.
Here is another story, JJ Hagerman bought John Chisum's Jinglebob Ranch turned it in to an apple orchard, tore down his house and built a new one but then said the new house was haunted by the Ghost of Chisum and then moved to Hagerman after building the town with all needs met, then brought in the people after building the train rails. JJ Hagerman was New Mexico, not John Chisum! Hagerman also donated Roswell to the Military Institute as a tax write off. It was Pat's irrigation project that brought the 2 together and JJ had TB like Doc Holliday and Pat knew the air was better down there for that and JJ used to go to Paris for relief and after Pat was turned down for funding from the big whigs in the East. they mentioned JJ to Pat and Pat petitioned JJ for money and was not interested but Pat saying at the very least come down for a visit for your health and once JJ did, never looked back. Watch Young Guns II, I have several times now, it's the real deal.
