Great job in following and presenting all the documentation as to the real story. From Burns and the like, it seems all of their "evidence" of the mainstream narrative boils down to one single account and that is from Garrett. Otherwise, what real evidence exists that Billy died in 1881? I don't understand how so many accounts, statements, story alignments and affidavits can just be brushed off and ignored without anyone having addressed them. So, all that really begs the question why so many people in power were willing to let Garretts story stand and let history believe this lie? Exactly what leverage did Billy's existence hold to where he needed to be dead and gone and exactly where was the big benefit for them to let this continue to be believed? (maybe those 2 questions are asking the same thing) I believe present day investigations with this amount of data would absolutely conclude that Billy died in Texas in 1950.
Like a researcher once said said.. "Pat writing Billy's autobiography is like Jack Ruby writing Oswald's autobiography" Pat didn't kill Billy no more than I did..lol
My biggest concern with neo historians is their willingness to knock down anything that the status quo consensus narrative has led us to believe all this time Garrett killed the kid and that’s it, really!?
The fascinating question is why would all these people say, and in some cases sign documents to say that Brushy was. Billy? I don't think they would do it for money or for fame, but rather the truth.
Pat Garrett was about image and reputation. Killing the wrong person "again", especially an inocent, would have been bad for his reputation/career and possibly neck. I think a deal was made to fix everything when he shot an inocent person.
I never believed that Pat Garrett killed Billy the kid, I've always believed that Bushy Bill Roberts was and is Billy the kid who lived and survived to be in the ripe older age.
I was fascinated with Billy the Kid at the age of 12. When I got a little older and put some thought to it, I never accepted that Garrett killed the Kid. Billy was in countless gun battles, almost always outgunned, and with him on the run, and where many of the regulators and subsequent men he rode with met their end... Billy the Kid had an instinctual knack for self-preservation. There's no way anyone can ever convince me that a man with Billy the Kid's natural gift for survival would, very stupidly, stumble into a dark room with the man who was hunting him, and who the Kid KNEW was in Ft Sumner. In addition, Billy the Kid was highly skilled with the iron. If he had been stupid enough to walk right past 2 of Garrett's posse, one of whom he knew, actually ask them who they were, and without knowing the answer, walk directly into that dark room? There's no way Garrett could have killed him without the Kid at least getting one shot off. Garrett was terrified of Billy the Kid, that's why he always attacked him from ambush and in darkness. You think the Kid didn't know that after Garrett murdered Charlie and Tom in ambush attacks when it was dark? If the Kid had gone into Pete Maxwell's dark bedroom that night? It would've been for the expressed purpose of killing Pat Garrett. And I wouldn't bet everything I owned on the Kid being the only one who walks away from that fight.
I had no idea that the ancestors had written accounts that Billy the kid was not killed by Pat Garrett this is huge! just the other day I found a new tintype photo of Billy the kid with Pat Garrett in the photo as friends. it is the best known tintype so far that has been found and has not been released to the public yet. The photo is so well done it puts goosebumps and chills down my spine
I'm amazed at the depths people will go to defend their position. Now, I see people with videos saying, "the ears don't match. Experts say the shape of the ear never changes." They refuse to look at a lot of the evidence to defend Pat Garrett killing Billy. Have you heard this claim? If so have you looked into it? I'm about the facts. And from your documentary and others, I believe Brushy was Billy.
As far as the ear lobes go, the ears in the original, photograph were almost completely gone. The photograph, including the ears, was "retouched" by a man by the name of Noah Rose. Only the very top part of one of the ears was still visible in the tintype. This was mentioned by John Meigs in his report to The Lincoln County heritage Trust in the 1980s and has been discussed by acclaimed western photograph historian Robert McCubbin. Thanks for watching.
Great video, common sense tells you that as many letters and sightings outlined here and in books, Brushy was Billy the kid and ruse of his death just doesn’t hold up. For me, it really boils down to if you killed the most famous outlaw of his time and have zero imperial verification, it didn’t happen.
There is still that minor issue of "supposed" Brushy Bill photos and Billy the Kid photos looking nothing alike. There is also the fact that Brushy was friends with the Jesse James imposter and both have similar stores about being these historic figures.
Yes, I did. It's currently out of print, but I'm in the process of updating it and hope to have it back out soon. When it's available, I'll make an announcement on my channel.
Im really enjoying your channel. It's amazing research. I love the commentary and If Garrett killed the kid your telling me there was no huge funeral or pictures the biggest outlaw was just killed a man beloved by people and his closed casket was just buried as fast as possible with an old cross
Pat did not kill Billy, they were such good friends that when Pat caught up with Billy and he told Billy to go to Mexico and don't come back or he will have to kill him so they killed the other guy and Brushy Bill was not Billy
Only dna would verify this but historians don't want to be wrong. Smdh. I don't know if bill was billy but I don't believe that pat killed billy that night. "PALS"
I think your videos are great, however - how can it be that Garrett killed both Bowdrey and Folliard thinking they were the kid, and yet be Billy's best friend? Makes no sense.
The best thing is time for time will reviled the truth. We should question hour History for we being lied about the history of humanity., power to the true.
I also thoroughly reject the notion that Garrett and the Kid had any kind of accord. In my opinion, Pat Garrett was very close to being a coward. Garrett was not particularly known for being a pistolero. He was a Buffalo hunter who killed his prey from a distance, taking advantage of every opportunity to ensure his prey didn't know he was even there. He murdered Charlie and Tom only because he was certain he was shooting at Billy the Kid. And if he had ever had the opportunity to kill the Kid from 1500 yards away, and when Billy had no idea Garrett was even there? Garrett absolutely would not have even hesitated to kill him. I think the ONLY reason Pat Garrett survived as long as he did is because Billy the Kid was not a sociopathic, cold-blooded murderer. He was a young man living in a hard time when only men of meddle survived. John Tunstall gave the Kid a job, a home, a horse, a rifle and treated Billy like a young gentleman after a life of being cast-out, rejected, losing his mothe, and viewed as one of the dreggs of society by all. At the time of the Garrett hoax, Billy was only 21 years old and it's an almost certainty that Tunstall was the closest thing to a father figure the young man had ever known. He killed the men he killed, seeking the only justice available to him in a place so corrupt. It bordered on the despotic. When McSweeney died, it effectively ended the war for the Kid. He had exacted the maximum amount of retribution he could have and still survived. As much as Garrett would have gunned down the Kid? Billy the Kid had no desire to kill Pat Garrett, a former friend who had absolutely nothing to do with the murder of John Tunstall.
I've been following this story my whole life. I'm not a historian or some sort of expert but I have lived in those places. I think if there are answers to be had then they are in the Old World. I think the Lincoln County war was a feud from the Mother Land. If Billy was English he died. If he was Irish he lived. The problem with that is that there is no way that Billy could have been Irish. There is one caveat to that though, but I'm not at liberty to state that.
We know many sightings now . And things brushy said ring true in history books on judge parker and on Indian territory incidents and the shipping of cattle to Liverpool and catching ponies in the Shetland islands 1894 ( hord cattle company)
@SVSaltyAbandon No DNA test was ever performed on either Roberts or the body in Ft. Sumner. In the early 2000s, two former Lincoln County Deputy Sherriffs attempted to have the grave in Ft. Sumner, Catherine Antrim, William Roberts, and John Miller exhumed for DNA testing. However, the powers that be in New Mexico fought this every step of the way by filing a series of lawsuits and legal motions that ultimately killed the plan. This is detailed in Billy the Kid Cold Case by W.C Jameson and The Dirty on Billy the Kid by Steve Sederwall.
I will say this.... I know for a fact it's pretty easy to fly under the wire when no one is looking for you.... especially at that time. How about this.... Brushy / Billy later killed pat.
We know where his mother and brother are buried so it should be pretty easy to get a DNA sample from them and a comparable sample from the body in the grave
This was tried in the early 2000s, by two former Lincoln County Deputy Sheriffs. However, the powers that be in New Mexico fought this every step of the way by filing a series of lawsuits and legal motions. The plan was to exhume the body of Catherine Antrim in Silver City, the body in Ft. Sumner, Brushy Bill Roberts, and John Miller. Joe Antrim's body was donated to science upon his death, so he's not an option for obtaining DNA. This is all detailed in the books, The Dirty on Billy the Kid by Steven Sederwall and Billy the Kid: Cold Case - Investigating History's Mysteries by W.C. Jameson.
Billy the Kid could have survived and lived a long healthy life. Doesn't mean that he did it as Brushy Bill. Everything you present can be true and false at the same time but I guess that is what makes it a good mystery. Brushy Bill's stories are too wild for me to take seriously. His life is far more interesting than Billy the Kid's whether his stories are true or not. It has Forest Gump vibes.
That's what makes this so fascinating and why we've been fighting to settle this once and for all through DNA testing. Unfortunately, the powers that be in New Mexico have fought this every step of the way. Thanks for watching.
@@brushybret Well right or wrong, it is an interesting story to tell. I am more interest in Brushy Bill's stories with the rough riders. That to me is more interesting than him being Billy the Kid. What were his interactions with Theodore Roosevelt like I wonder?
@@brushybret one thing about it, why would Brushy Bill take the chance of coming forward when he could still be prosecuted? Who would take a chance like that other than the real deal Billy the Kid ?
If you just go with the documented statement of all who was there when Billy was supposedly shot by Garrett then it really doesn't make sense. I think anyone who has a half a brain would agree that if you were heavily wanted and had a big chunk of money on your head and had been known to escape jail and you know that there's several poses out looking for you you're not just going to walk past someone (Poe) who you don't know that just so happens to be on the porch of your friend then proceed to go into a dark room unarmed and ask who is there?... Maybe back in those days a story like that would go unquestioned but these days everyone would be calling BS to it. I've gone back and forth with questioning if The Kid was actually killed that night and I first didn't believe it but then after many years researching into it and living here in New Mexico and talking with people about it I changed my mind and excepted that he probably was killed that night but it wouldn't stop nagging at me and I don't know if it's because I truly don't want to believe he was killed or what but I really just feel like he wasn't and if I put myself in his shoes with everything that was going on at the time I can say without a doubt that I would not have walked into Pete's room unarmed in the dark with people who I didn't know hanging around outside. None of that makes sense when you put all the variables together. So now I'm leaning back towards the notion of him not really being killed. Whether or not he was Brushy Bill I won't ever be able to say for sure but I can say with a fair bit of confidence that he wasn't killed by Garrett that night. But the ultimate reality is that unless some kind of profound never before seen undeniable evidence pops up providing that Billy the Kid didn't actually get killed by Garrett none of us will be able to say for certain one way or another. And I tend to not give much credit to anyone who claims they know for certain without a doubt that he wasn't killed cause no one will ever truly know. It's very interesting to go over everything we've come to know throughout the years and try to figure it out one way or another but sadly nothing we have right now can show for certain he wasn't killed. And as much as I want him to not have been killed by Garrett or all the evidence I've seen saying that he actually was I will never say for certain that I know one way or another. The only thing I can say for sure is that living here in New Mexico his spirit still rides these old trails and if you know where to look you'll still see that same old west outlaw era living on. Thankfully those old times haven't been covered up by the modern day and busy people. This state holds all of that old spirit still vastly untouched and I'm so thankful for that. Not many places can say that now days.
I did a video discussing this which includes a facial recognition study conducted by the University of Texas-Austin which concluded Roberts and the man in the Dedrick-Upham Tintype were a statistical match. The study was led by two PhD scientists who used a nationally recognized facial recognition program used throughout the world, by multiple law enforcement agencies, and is admissible in court. The methods used in the study were peer-reviewed and published in two scientific publications. Furthermore, the results were reviewed and confirmed by two independent arbiters. Too many 'quote' 'unquote' statements - tedious after a short time. I suppose if someone is going to be particular about that much detail, they will be particular about potential legalities. Still tedious though!!
And if there's any lesson we can glean from studying the Kid's involvement with the Lincoln County war? That lesson is that if the Kid wanted you dead? #1.
I look forward to seeing it someday. Thanks for watching.
@@brushybret I have a photo for you where should I send it
When will it be seen? Why hasn't it been released?
As for Bushy Bill, I am doubtful, but I don't believe that Garrett killed Billy.
New subscriber, awesome channel 👍🏻
Thanks and welcome
@@brushybret Did you write the book The Real Billy The Kid AKA Brushy Bill Roberts? If so where can I buy a copy?
What specifically makes you think that Roberts wasn't the Kid?
Only dna would verify this but historians don't want to be wrong. Smdh. I don't know if bill was billy but I don't believe that pat killed billy that night.
"PALS"
He died ....in '35
🌹Rest in Peace Billie
We called him Bonnie .
I believe Billy the kid really didn't die .
Brushy bill was billy the kid
Darn right!
Dude, you rock
Thanks!
Didn't someone do a DNA test and prove that guy was not Billy the Kid?
@@brushybret Thanks for the reply. Did they do a test on someone that claimed to be Jessie James?
brushy ....good cover
I will say this.... I know for a fact it's pretty easy to fly under the wire when no one is looking for you.... especially at that time. How about this.... Brushy / Billy later killed pat.
he would of sent letters a some point to antagonize a number of different people, he never did
Salazar said he wrote him a letter, and several people reported seeing him and talking to him in person.
I love this man
Same with Jesse James they faked his death how can u let one brother go when they both done the same
Mercy, isn't DNA enough evidence? It is proven.
Who has dna
My question is where did they find dna? Billy didn’t have any kids and as far as I know there isn’t any living relatives of Billy.
Michigan
@bdd1469 Yea you and Josh must live together!!!! You both believe everything the Liar Pat Garrett says
Brushy bill looks nothing like BTK
I did a video discussing this which includes a facial recognition study conducted by the University of Texas-Austin which concluded Roberts and the man in the Dedrick-Upham Tintype were a statistical match. The study was led by two PhD scientists who used a nationally recognized facial recognition program used throughout the world, by multiple law enforcement agencies, and is admissible in court. The methods used in the study were peer-reviewed and published in two scientific publications. Furthermore, the results were reviewed and confirmed by two independent arbiters. And if there's any lesson we can glean from studying the Kid's involvement with the Lincoln County war? That lesson is that if the Kid wanted you dead? #1. It was because you were involved in murdering his unarmed friend. And #2 your life was almost certainly going to end before his, and odds are, you were going to die by his hand.
